Hell Yes! Love this movie! Great review as always James!

  • October 25, 2010 at 3:44 am

    Lol this was great.

    “You slime”

James your the best man keep up the great work.

  • Dr. Forrester

    October 25, 2010 at 3:47 am

That was definitely Frank Welker doing the monkey sounds. I feel like I’ve seen something with an evil monkey before, but Bryan Cranston was in it

  • MikeDaWiz

    October 25, 2010 at 3:54 am

    @ Attack of the n00b

Throughout the movie, when he gets angry, he sprouts those teeth. They aren’t vampire teeth, they are more showing his anger taking over and action being manifested by the monkey.

  • October 25, 2010 at 4:09 am

great review james. I heard about this film but never seen it now i might be interested

  • windowlicker

    October 25, 2010 at 4:32 am

    October 25, 2010 at 5:29 am

    You what pisses me off?

A monkey that is a better actor than most of the dregs in Hollywood can’t get work, but Shia LaBeouf is still paid exorbitant amounts of money to stink up movies.

  • October 25, 2010 at 5:32 am

Usually spoilers ruin a film for me, but in this case, I think learning how the monkey dies makes me want to see it.

  • ulmuchiha

    October 25, 2010 at 5:37 am

My dad had this on tape and he wouldn’t let me see it.
    Now i know…
and nowing is half the battle

The voice in the video introduction was great

  • bbhaver

    October 25, 2010 at 5:50 am

Hey there was a caricature of this movie in the series “Malcolm in the middle”.

  • PatrickCoffey

    October 25, 2010 at 6:05 am

Though i have never seen this movie, it looks like it provides an insightful look into the relationships man carries with the animals he has dominion over. Perhaps even making a morality statement about the unconscious Pavlovian rewards we might bestow upon our pets that encourage bad behavior.
Or maybe its a movie with a monkey in it.

  • DannyD

    October 25, 2010 at 6:08 am

My God that is an adorable, yet evil monkey.

  • horrorfanboy

    October 25, 2010 at 6:17 am

To me, “Monkey Shines” was a boring movie. Plus the death scenes were offscreen. Still, the review is good.

  • Doku

    October 25, 2010 at 6:25 am

Haha what a gruesome death scene at the end.

  • October 25, 2010 at 6:25 am

This movie looks pretty entertaining, not as shitty or awful as the other ones. Makes me wanna go watch it.

  • Butch Bitch

    October 25, 2010 at 6:31 am

Aw, that monkey is SO cute! Looks like a pretty damn good horror movie, though,

  • DMM_poo

    October 25, 2010 at 6:33 am

  • October 25, 2010 at 7:10 am

This is one of my more fondly-remembered low budget horror movies. Also, it has a completely badass tagline:

There once was a man, his prison was his chair
The man had a monkey, they made the strangest pair.
The monkey ruled the man, it crawled inside his head
Then as fate would have it, one of them is dead.

  • bigdaddycain

    October 25, 2010 at 7:58 am

Ugh… people who bring up Pavlov in a comment on James’ Monster Madness reviews fail.

It’s just a movie. With a monkey in it.

  • GialloHorror

    October 25, 2010 at 8:02 am

I remember this film well. I was 12 years old, and I saw a trailer for this film. It looked aweseom, and scary as fuck, but it turned into a pile of shit.

I was so fucking disappointed. This movie sucks ass. I fucking hate it!
I felt the same way, watching this film, as I did when I beat The Karate Kid on NES

  • Monstermash

    October 25, 2010 at 9:30 am

    October 25, 2010 at 9:43 am

I remember wanting to see this movie when it came out, but my father wouldn’t take me because of the content, I was 6 or 7 at the time. I saw it for the first time just a few years ago and now I know I didn’t miss much. The sex scene is weird, she just rides his face, but I guess that’s your only option with a quadriplegic.

  • GoldRoger

    October 25, 2010 at 9:46 am

Wow now I really have to watch this movie.

It looks shitty, but in a good way. Just lay back and enjoy it kinda way.

  • Deviltrunks

    October 25, 2010 at 9:48 am

I remember this movie, some good laughs in it. lol

  • Phill6

    October 25, 2010 at 10:10 am

Wow What a Piece of Shit, Seriously that movie looks like It sucks,
The movies just keep getting shittier and James comments just keep getting Funnier!!! These movies are like worst than the games Video Game nerd reviews, Thank god is James doing the reviews, He just makes my day with his jokes 🙂

I really love this, I am so Sad is coming to and end, I would love to hear a movie review every day for the rest of the year, well, Only a few days left, I really wonder what’s in store for us next…

  • kaijufan43

    October 25, 2010 at 10:22 am

I think Simba from the Lion King would have said it best. ” Creepy little monkey.”

  • asnaes1981

    October 25, 2010 at 10:36 am

That movie is such cheese, and it has a monkey. That makes it…Wait for it…MUNKEY CHEEZ!!!

  • SpeedyEric

    October 25, 2010 at 10:46 am

In speaking of Frank Welker and monkeys, he also voiced Abu in “Aladdin.”

This film looks like it doesn’t suck monkey-f#ck.

  • Mire Mare

    October 25, 2010 at 12:12 pm

I totally agree with horrorfanboy this is one of the most boring and predictable “Horror” movies to come out of the 80’s, a total waste of 1h 48m in my opinion, Romero stick to Zombies and leave that monkey shit alone.

James why the fuck did you bother with this there is no excuse, you have so much to choose from why bother this mind numbing coma inducing knob rot.

  • October 25, 2010 at 12:31 pm

This is, for sure, the worst movie of this monster madness. good review.

CRITTERS are yet the best movies to watch of this Monster madness and the review for Manitou was the most funny review. Plus, I will watch Killer Klowns from outer space and Brain Damage after seeing them here.

  • October 25, 2010 at 12:34 pm

In Conan The Barbarian Arnold takes out a vulture with his bare teeth.
But that is a different story. I admit I’ve never seen something like that before.

  • Schloss Ritter

    October 25, 2010 at 12:47 pm

This movie made me not trust monkeys for a while after I first saw it.

  • DippMaster_4

    October 25, 2010 at 2:21 pm

This movie reminds me of that malcom in the middle episode when craig, played by David Higgins, is in a wheelchair and he rents a monkey to do all his work for him then at the end the monkey tries to kill him haha

  • charmaster

    October 25, 2010 at 2:27 pm

    I freaking hate monkeys…

  • JayRam

    October 25, 2010 at 2:29 pm

I don’t know, man. The quadriplegic’s mother lookes like the quadriplegic in drag.
The part where he’s biting the monkey’s neck looked like that scene from your AVGN review, I think it’s Bart vs. the World, where you actually eat your shorts.

  • daleksith

    October 25, 2010 at 2:31 pm

Oh man this movie seems so awesome!!!

  • dog2547

    October 25, 2010 at 2:42 pm

this movie looks awsome, MONKEYS KICK ASS

  • phoenix252005

    October 25, 2010 at 2:59 pm

Yeah this is one of the few movies that I am actually rooting for the killer!!! That monkey was just getting revenge for all his ancestors!! Mans inhumanity against monkeys lol FUCK HUMANS!!!! lol jk

  • Johnthegamenerd

    October 25, 2010 at 3:04 pm

Just a reminder to never fuck with a guy in a wheelchair.

  • Undertaker

    October 25, 2010 at 3:05 pm

@DippMaster4 that episode was loosely based on this movie i think

  • October 25, 2010 at 3:21 pm

This reminds me of a Malcolm in the middle episode.

  • NicksComments

    October 25, 2010 at 3:26 pm

Didn’t Malcolm in th Middle parody this?

  • 5hower5horts

    October 25, 2010 at 3:31 pm

Is the monkey on the title card the one which features in Toy Story 3? Without the cymbals.

  • stickshaka

    October 25, 2010 at 3:56 pm

I remember this one & how he defeats the monkey.

As someone mentioned about Conan, also Chuck Norris did likewise to a rat in MIA2.

  • Valis77

    October 25, 2010 at 4:14 pm

Stupid monkey! this is abu Live action

  • 1148BucksX2

    October 25, 2010 at 4:40 pm

    Good call with Conan, Martin.

The instance of critter biting it by being bitten that immediately came to mind was good ole Chuck Norris in one of the “Missing In Action” flicks (probably 2) where he was being tortured by being hung upside down and having his head tied inside of a sack containing an agitated rat. It’s been over two decades, but that moment is still pretty vivid for me.

  • MaximusPM

    October 25, 2010 at 4:46 pm

The monkey was never hurt… BUT THE BIRD WAS KILLED… Omg, thy really did kill it, just look at the poor thing -.-‘

  • videogameobserver

This movie should be called Monkey… You Will Shit Your Pants After Watching This

  • joshism

    October 25, 2010 at 5:33 pm

Does this movie have a protagonist? The quadriplegic guy acts like a total psychotic bastard and the money is homicidal and dies in the end.

  • avgnfan96

    October 25, 2010 at 6:43 pm

i like monkeys but maybe not this one

    great review James

  • Bimmy

    October 25, 2010 at 7:01 pm

    “Here’s looking at you, shithead.”

That line should’ve been in the movie.

  • angelspawn77

    October 25, 2010 at 8:10 pm

not much of a horror movie haha. From the cover picture you’d thing it was a killer monkey doll or puppet or something, the cover is pretty misleading.

  • cloob1

    October 25, 2010 at 9:02 pm

Maybe when he rips the monkey apart he can find an extra tooth to fill that gap.

  • KaiGusto

    October 25, 2010 at 9:47 pm

Monkey Shines is a great movie.

  • tehx3n

    October 26, 2010 at 8:16 am

    monkeys are fucking awesome

  • strummer

    October 26, 2010 at 9:11 am

  • Bloodletskeleton

    October 26, 2010 at 2:11 pm

Im not one that goes for animalistic..ehh nature horror. Pretty much killer animals or insects or etc. But the first time I saw monkey shines off of fear net, it instantly became a favorite of mine. Don’t get me wrong either, I like critters and revelant. But actual animals isn’t my cup of tea, nor fish, nor prehestoric, nor insects, repitles.

  • Chie

    October 26, 2010 at 6:05 pm

I love this movie. I’m actually going to argue that this is a classic to some degree, but either way seeing it on Monster Madness at all is awesome.

  • ThePhantomGamer

    October 26, 2010 at 10:08 pm

Malcolm in the Middle had an episode that had a similar storyline. Craig got injured and was confined in a wheel chair and he got a helper monkey, and it tried to kill him.

  • October 27, 2010 at 12:29 am

HAHA! The look on my sister’s face was priceless during the most intense scenes in Monkey Shines – the reason why I love this movie so much. LOL

  • Swedish Video Game Nerd

    October 27, 2010 at 2:23 am

ThePhantomGamer, I too thought of that MiTM episode. Seems to me it is an apparent spoof of Monkey Shines, no?

  • October 27, 2010 at 7:36 pm

The film is only slightly boom, but that’s just down to the acting, I bet that monkey produces a lot though.

  • October 28, 2010 at 1:19 pm

    i m fan of this monkey X3

  • October 29, 2010 at 3:13 pm

did anyone notice his teeth at 3:03? i mean HOLY FUCK he looked like a vampire or something!!! god James you do such a wonderful job on these reviews every year.. i just wanted you to know that besides Halloween and my birthday i look forward to your Monster Madness ALL YEAR LONG.. you really are the best dude on the internet 🙂 MUCH LOVE!

I’m probably one out of 4 people in the world who actually likes Monkey Shines and have a video poster of it. A friend of mine recently said that if you ever tried to describing the plot to anyone you would just continue to sound stupid. “Dude, its awesome! Its about an angry guy who can’t walk right? So a psychic monkey kills people who piss him off.”
George Romero is my hero and Knightriders is another film I jerk to that generally, nobody cares for.

funny story. I saw this on television years ago, and as you would expect, they cut out the curse words, BUT every curse word was in the subtitles!

(I prefer to watch with captioning)

Fuck, Shit, Bitch, Cunt, EVERY curse word was on screen, it was funny.
