Isn’t this the show that was the inspiration for the title “The Phantom menace”?

MM is finally back! i can’t wait till we get to the color movies! (they are usually cheesier than black and white ones)

What a wonderful way to end my night and fire off the month of October: a Cinemassacre’s Monster Madness video, followed later today/tonight around 8 p.m. by a haunted hayride. And having just watched “Suspiria” a few hours ago.

Camp Cult? I absolutely love it!

Now I know where that robot came from. Always knew it was an old movie (though it turned out to be a serial) but never went out of my way to find out what. Does anyone know what a good DVD for this serial is? Sort of like how most of the public domain DVDs for “Night of the Living Dead” are extraordinarily schnitty, but the Elite Entertainment DVD is really good, or how the Kino DVD is (to my knowledge) the best way to see “Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror”, or at least it was at the time I bought it.

    Looking forward to more.

That robot looks so cool and I loved the show!

  • October 1, 2010 at 3:43 am

Great video. Totally digg the whole concept. I honestly enjoy that kind of stuff so much more than the AVGN videos.

As far as is comes to The Phantom Creeps it think I’ve seen snippets or even one of the chapters might look into getting a decent dvd of it.

In the last 2 days I’ve watched Dawn of the Dead, The Wolfman, and From Dusk Till Dawn, I am totally ready for some Monster Madness.

Whoever did the voiceover for the beginning did a really good job, too. I hope all the ones you used are that good.

But I still haven’t seen the Phantom Creeps, I have it on my Blockbuster queue, I guess I better move it up before they go out of business

  • risk

    October 1, 2010 at 9:04 am

classic low budget sci-fi movie. I just downloaded the divx.

  • October 1, 2010 at 9:19 am

Holy crap James! That was awesome! This is the best Monster Madness yet. I have to say that you’re doing an amazing job, I really liked the holy camp fire thing in the beginning with you putting on the film, it gave it this very authentic feel.

Whoever did the monster madness voice did an amazing job too ( I was afraid fan submissions were going to be cheesy as heck I’ll admit.)

I do have one suggestion though – the ending still feels very abrupt. I think it would be very cool if after you did your bit on the movie, if you cut back to the camp scene and gave us a little “And that’s it for tonight.. tune in tomorrow for … “X” ” (with X being the next movie.) You know, just a little teaser or something to keep us intrigued.

Just my thoughts though. I love what you’ve done as it is!

  • chewee123

    October 1, 2010 at 9:24 am

That was a great start to Monster Madness. I think that it might be your best one to date.

  • October 1, 2010 at 9:43 am

So it begins! This is why October is my favourite month. I also learn so much from your Monster Madness videos. Keep’em coming, James!

  • October 1, 2010 at 9:45 am

    awesome, nice format

  • October 1, 2010 at 9:46 am

El superbeasto was an awesome movie, no wonder that robot looked familiar!! I still remember the Rob Zombie concert i went to and he brought out that awesome!

  • ramo10

    October 1, 2010 at 9:57 am

Yes! this is the reason why i love october and its nice to se you with the old projector in the “camp” πŸ˜€ hehe the robot look like mecha frankenstein. bytheway who was it saying the “Moooonster Maaadness” in the opening this time?

  • You Can Just Walk Over It

    October 1, 2010 at 10:01 am

I don’t know how many fan submitted “It’s Cinemassacre’s Monster Madness” entries are going to be used this year, but there’s something unique about the way James said it last year which gradually got more insane as the month went on that simply can’t be replaced. Still a good start to the month though!

  • October 1, 2010 at 10:24 am

That’s where Rob Zombie got that thing from. Brought a huge version out on stage last time I saw him.

  • fluffymoochicken

    October 1, 2010 at 10:32 am

I know I’ll be frowned upon for complaining about something so minor, but would it be okay to not put so much gruesome violence in the intro? ^^;;; I love watching your reviews of older, cheesier movies, but the later, more violent stuff really disturbs me.

Otherwise, this was a nice video. =)

  • GoldRoger

    October 1, 2010 at 10:35 am

I want an action figure of that robot.

    great video, James

I wonder if any more Ed Wood movies will make it on the countdown, or maybe an Uwe Boll movie.

  • Dr. Forrester

    October 1, 2010 at 1:18 pm

Nice. I don’t think they did the whole serial, but MST3K used the Phantom Creeps as a short on more than one occasion in the second season. “How fortunate, this will simplify everything!”

  • rjoyadet

    October 1, 2010 at 1:25 pm

I am really liking how much creativity is in this. I enjoy how you are using fans voices and how you are being like a horror host rather than just a commentary. This is why October is my favorite month of the year!

  • sugarmice

    October 1, 2010 at 1:28 pm

This awesome! love the projector at the beginning of the video. Yesterday I watched Dracula TWICE, one by myself and another time with the audio commentary with James and Mike, just to get in the mood for monster madness!

Yay it’s Monster Madness :)) too bad the videos were served by which is a really big downer. Cause for me it loads veeeerry slow and stucks every 2 seconds for another couple of seconds, even with my 50 MBit VDSL Line … :-/ Maybe it’s ’cause i life in Germany i don’t know … other videowebsites such as Youtube or Gametrailers on the other side works pretty well for me only … well whatever so i got to wait for every clip. Yeah and keep up the good work James, Cinemassacre is awesome^^

  • JanneOwner

    October 1, 2010 at 2:37 pm

In the beginning of the clip, you can see a guy getting his arm and head blown off. It’s from a movie called Evil Ed. Anyone who’s into splatter should check it out πŸ™‚

  • Butch Bitch

    October 1, 2010 at 3:52 pm

What a way to kick off my birthday month! I want to go to Camp Cult SO BADLY!

If you thought the fact that they used footage from the Hindenburg disaster was tasteless- see Titanic: The Animated Musical. It almost completely ignores the disaster altogether for terrible comedy relief with the animal characters, including a rapping dog! I shit you not. Doug reviewed for the Nostalgia Critic series.

  • Dr.That1guy

    October 1, 2010 at 3:55 pm

    I love Monster Madness…
    It’s so bad.

  • October 1, 2010 at 5:14 pm

I remember seeing this film once on AMC many years ago before they started using commercials on their channel. I never realized they used the Zeppelin balloon tragedy in the film. That’s really fucked up. Just as bad as using Bruce Lee’s funeral footage for Game Of Death. Great review of the movie, James. Kind of reminded me of Are You Afraid Of The Dark? Can’t wait to see the next one.

  • ScaryManiac

    October 1, 2010 at 5:16 pm

I waited the whole day till it went night to get in the right mood…

The moment I clicked play, I went nervous. This is how much Cinemassacre’s Monster Madness means to me!

I’m loving this whole Camp Cult ambience. This is just getting better and better!

Also, I loved the Intro voice!

  • SpotXSpot

    October 1, 2010 at 5:18 pm

Inspired by your past Monster Madnesses, I’m having people over this weekend to watch Nosferatu and the Spanish co-production of Dracula. After that I plan on also watching The Black Cat and the Raven.

Thanks for making all of October a time for terror and horror!

Craziest thing about using the Hindenburg footage is that this was only 2 years after the disaster. WAY too soon.

You people need quit whining about the Hindenburg footage, only 35 of 97 people died. I’m sure no one made a major deal about it being included back then, plus everyone involved is now dead.
