Has anyone read “The Colour Out of Space” by H.P. Lovecraft? I think the second story in this movie is based on that tale, but since I haven´t seen the movie yet, I cannot tell.

It would make sense, since Stephen King is a fan of Lovecraft´s work.

“Maine man”… How didn´t I come up with that one?

    Great review!

weird, there is this fair that comes to my neighborhood once a year, and there is this ride that petrified me as a kid called “Creepshow” i didnt ride it for 7 years after the first one, because of my memories as a child. i recently rode it again…it sucks as a ride. so i think i avoided this movie with the memories of my childhood in the back of my mind, now i realize it has about the same resemblence as shitpickle, and pikachu

There is another horror film that uses this format: Trick ‘r Treat.
It has 4 stories (5 if you count the pre-main title scene) that all interconnect.
It’s a really good film (my personal favorite horror film) that most people who’ve seen it say that Trick ‘r Treat will be watched along side Carpenter’s Halloween every October 31st.

Isn’t the little boy with the comic books Stephen King’s son?

I love this movie!!! I remember seeing this in the theatre. My mom didn’t want me going as I was about 12 and my future boyfriend thought it looked stupid. While my mom didn’t discover I sneaked into a showing (Ahh, the days when knowledge of cursive, great typeset and a forged parental note could get you into an R flick) until later, I convinced my boyfriend to see it and he loved it and later on my mom watched it and she loved it.

The Crate is my favourite segment, I think even if Adrian Barboobs gets on my nerves sometimes.

Also Pirahnatron, yes, the boy is Stephen King’s son Joe Hill.

One of my top 10 favorite horror films!

I, absolutely, LOVE E.G Marshall in “They’re Creeping Up On You”

The music is AMAZING! Not to mention, the creators of this film made, the television series, “Tales From The darkside” which ran from
1983-1988 and it was a HUGE part of my childhodd.

“I’ll be dipped in shit if that ain’t a meteor” LOL! Stephen King is GOD!
The 3rd story was the one that scared the shit out of me.

“Creepshow 2” (1987) wasn’t bad, but it pailed in comparison with the original
    Tom Atkins RULES!!

Tom Savini is an egotistical asshole, but he did a lot for practical effects when they were still being used. Creepshow is a beautiful example where the practical effects brought something to the table that CG has yet to develop.

    Nice review.

I own this on VHS ♥ I’ve watched it numerous times since I was like 5 and it scared the hell out of me, I’ve loved horror films since then on. I love this and Tales From The Darkside! Tales From The Darkside does a similar thing with the short stories, my favourite is Inside The Closet, the monster in that story is apparently called Lucy and was in a recuring nightmare I used to get that your video Dragon In My Dreams reminded me of.

  • December 25, 2010 at 8:34 pm

Wierdest thing, Tales From The Darkside is on the horror channel at 2:45.

I’ve never seen this one .,. I’m totally trying to find it..

I still think Creepshow 2 is just as awesome as the first one. I love the line “Thanks for the ride lady!”

Honestly thought Creepshow 2 was decent. The Oil Spot short was honestly the best. I know it seems kind of stupid to think about but it’s not like attack of the killer plants is any better. I thought the oil spot short was very suspenseful, imagine being stuck on a barge with your closest friends who are being sucked into this big black spot that no one really knows what the fuck it is.

The second story is very loosely based on H.P. Lovecraft’s The Colour Out of Space in the minimalist of ways. I have read that it was a tribute to lovecraft cause King is a fan.

THE CRATE! Such an epic little horror story collection. I used to read the comic and see the movie over and over as a kid. The ladies at the library probably should have just given me the comic since I checked it out so much. Cool stuff. 🙂

was blown away to hear James say something could be “too nasty” but that pleased me at the same time. Just proves even horror critics can have a threshold for bad taste/good taste.

It seems to be a risk we take. Particularly with the 80’s genre films since they seem to try to outdo each other with the excessive gore. That we may end up watching a scene that we really may wish we never saw.

One of the worst things I saw was from a film I cannot recall the name of. A teen boy goes insane while home with his grandma and little sister and he slowly gets more and more dangerous… At one point he throws their pet cat into the fireplace and at the age of 4 this was very traumatic for me. It is strange the things in horror films that effect us each differently.

Good video as usual. And thank you for the heads up! XD

I used to watch this all the time as a kid in the eighties.  I loved but the roaches always creeped me out!

THANKS FOR THE RIDE LADY!!! That quote stuck with me for most of my life..hahaha.

  • October 30, 2013 at 4:40 pm

The last one is definitely my favorite! I remember when I was a kid and every afternoon there is a show hosted by Coffin Joe here in Brazil (which was called “Cine Trash”) where he showed up a different B-movie every day. I remember I was eating a snack and drinking milk precisely at that part that the doctor is eating a bowl of cereal… FROM HELL! It was disgusting. It’s the only time i ever remember almost throwing up because of a movie.

The story “They’re creeping up on you” is a nice if sickening example of Social Commentary about the greed and selfishness of Wall Street type people even though it’s in a confined “Clean” space.

Odd how horror comics, and horror in general, was lumped together with porn. There really was a concern that horror would corrupt and damage the mental health of kids, desensitizing and desecrating them into psychopaths, cannabis-sniffers and cannibals.
