Dude i’m SO buying this if I get the chance. Sounds like something me and my friends would have great time watching.

The hypnosis effect works even on my laptop computer screen. Can’t wait to try it on my TV screen.

Why does it say “Mad doctor” on his coat? Couldn’t they make it a bit more subtle? Like a stethoscope or something?

  • September 1, 2010 at 11:27 pm

Dude, that hypnosis thing fucked with my brain. I think I’m talking about chocolate or English tasty cows gods of Christ and He-Man. [Literally about 10 minutes later]. Dude, I lost all control of my mind. English tasty cows gods? I must’ve been high or something. Anyway, looking away does some weird… colorey crystal pull-back thing with a little black speck in the middle. Life is kinda fucky sometimes, ya know?

that distortion effect on the world outside the screen is true, just watching it small screen in this video it still did it
i wanna see how crazy my eyes get if i watch the whole thing on a huge screen in the dark

I actually got that “sucking in” effect just from watching this on my computer, and I don’t do drugs either.

I watched this clip fullscreen on my computer. The hypnosis really worked. It’s probably even more effective on a TV!

I stared at the hypnosis wheel while you were talking and my fireplace looks like it’s coming at me. Seriously, everything seems to be growing!

2:02 to 2:20- This scene is from “Dracula (The Dirty Old Man).” I’ve seen The Cinema Snob’s review on it, and I felt dirty after first seeing it.

Kind of an old video to comment on, but the spiral hypnosis has a simple explanation. Your sensory systems, including sight, breaks down the input into its individual components that are represented by individual clusters of neurons in your brain. In this case, there is a certain set of neurons that fire as you see the spiral. What happens is that neurons will “tire out” and decrease their activity if repeatedly activated. So, if you stare at the spiral then look away, the “spiral neurons” will need time to reactivate, and you end up seeing an inverse of the spiral wherever you look, distorting your vision. If you look at a block of color long enough and then stare at a white wall, you’ll see the same block with the opposing color (red to green, etc); this is the same kind of phenomenon.

I bought this DVD based on your recommendation, James! Definitely worth it! Thanks!

I used to read about this movie in books & articles about obscure horror films, but when I finally got to see it on DVD, it was quite fun and hilarious to watch. A part of pop culture that was way before my time, this DVD does give us the best attempt to recreate the “horror spookshow” of my parents generation.
