I totally agree, not to mention the pennies makes my wallet really fat which becomes a hassle when i want to shove the wallet into my trouser pocket.

  • April 19, 2010 at 10:47 pm

I remember when I first saw this back on You Tube many years ago. I feel the same way now as I did then. God I hate fucking pennies! lol!

  • burvix

Actually here in Finland we have eliminated 1 cent coins. All prices are rounded to nearest 5 cents. Not every euro country does this though. Actually we should round them to nearest 10 cents in my opinion :P.

  • dsmith_65

    April 23, 2010 at 6:58 pm

As much as it pains me to say this, pennies serve a purpose. Without them we would experience inflation. Fractional dollars (i.e. coins) allow the price of items to better reflect market forces. Think about it. If everything was rounded to the nearest 5 cents things would end up costing more than they would have cost before the elimination of pennies. I know it doesn’t seam like eliminating pennies would result in material price increases but trust me, it would add up quick.

    I totally agree with this.

    I live in the Netherlands.
Back in the days (before 2002, when it was replaced by the Euro), we had guilders. Admitted, they were worth slightly less than dollars, but we rounded every price to the nearest five cents. No problems at all.
I even think (I was 12 back then) we didn’t even have cents anymore.

Even now, shops often don’t want to take cents or even two cent coins (why we have those beats me), so the same thing is happening. No problems at all. I don’t see why it would be such a bad development for the dollar.
People will gladly pay 4 cents not to have to hassle with those four cents.

  • Droid2055

    June 22, 2010 at 9:52 am

pennies over here in england are sometimes useful but most of the time they’re not. its the same story with a lot of things. I like collecting pennies. They’re cool

  • mad2physicist

    July 16, 2010 at 4:37 pm

Rather than ending prices in a 5 or 0, why not make a dollar 20 nickels and count everything in terms of nickels? Why even have cents?
If you can get old pennies, the copper in them is now worth more than 1 cent. New pennies are made with less copper to decrease the manufacturing cost.

  • keystpwned

    August 6, 2010 at 1:51 am

i’ll tell you why, the only reason pennies exist is to justify giving you the change on your taxed dollar. nothing more. 7% anyone?

  • pfc.ian

    August 23, 2010 at 12:26 am

pennies are stupid i mean i respect Abe but come on i hate pennies

  • Mr. K

    August 27, 2010 at 3:50 pm

Pennies aren’t stupid. However, our money system in the US is. If people understood that $3.99 really means $4, then we wouldn’t need pennies. When I get pennies, I stick them in a 10-gallon pretzel jug. In a year, I filled it up and bought a new television. Coin Star ftw.

In AAFES (Army Airforce Exchange store, we round everything up or down so it eliminates penny’s, they are useless.

  • The gamer

    November 28, 2010 at 9:51 am

I think pennies are ok if you save a lot of them. Wgat I think is bullshit is when the price is $4.99, or $9.99 or something .99, who cares about a SINGLE penny?

  • straybullet3713

    January 3, 2011 at 1:38 pm

Actually, ending the price in a 5 or 0 still won’t solve the problem. Why? Taxes! For example, lets take a common price marking: $7.99. Now let’s change it to $7.95. The tax would be (assuming tax rate of 7%, which is the sales tax where I live) would be $0.5565 which rounds to $0.56. So the end cost would be $8.51. Now lets go the other way changing it to $8.00 which would have a sales tax of exactly $0.56 (no need to round of a fraction of a penny there). Giving us an end cost of $8.56. It won’t be a problem every time, but still it will be most times. My solution would be to have the sales tax already calculated into the tag price and then adjust the cost to end in a 5 or 0.

Furthermore, I have actually bought something for a penny. It was at a Gamestop. Years ago. It was a strategy guide for a PC video game. It was (and still is) the only thing I ever so that cost a penny. Even after sales tax, it was still a penny (tax on a penny is $0.0007 which rounds to 0). I didn’t even own that PC game, and I have since lost the strategy guide. Can’t even remember the name of the game, but it had a big strategy guide; and I bought it ….. for a penny.

    January 23, 2011 at 6:29 pm

Ever since I watched this for the second time I stopped keeping pennies. I always get rid of them now. Thanks James, keep it up. I wonder what else you think is bullshit

  • January 27, 2011 at 1:54 pm

    1 penny = 10 mexican peso cents
here we have coins for 10, 5, and 2 cents, they´re worth less than a penny, and ive never complained to them 😛

  • najk93

    February 2, 2011 at 7:29 am

    In sweden we HAD
    50 öre
    1 kr
    5 kr
    and 1000kr

and that aint bad , but they took away the 50 öre (2 of em to make 1kr)
Cuz they were a waste … pennies are worth bullshit .. and thats why its bullshit!

  • February 7, 2011 at 9:36 pm

I can’t agree 100% but I always did feel pennies are worthless because nobody wants them. But if you pick one up every time you see it on the ground, take it to a cashier or a bank and it’ll cash into good amounts of dollars. Trust me, it’s worth every penny you find for little emergencies.

  • February 8, 2011 at 1:20 pm

I now know the feeling ever since Estonia got Euro for it’s currency. I feel that every 2 euro cent that I have is totally worthless and it feels pointless just to carry it around 😛

plus they cost a little over 7 times what there worth on the street to make. If I was not a patriat I would take a hundred dollars in pennys. melt them down for scrap and get about 400 dollars.

  • SonicX007

    February 26, 2011 at 10:46 am

Hell ya i mean if pennies exist, why the fuck isint there anything at ONE PENNY!?!?! Like seriously and why do companies amk stuff at 0.99$ anyway??? that should be your next bullshit video 0.99$ stuff.

Im the fast man and avgn rocks!

  • March 12, 2011 at 10:25 pm

@Johny_olde I’ve never heard of a bank that prints bills for coins. Every bank I’ve ever been too will only deposit coins in your account as coins to where you can only withdraw them as coins. If you do this for long then you will wind up with a lot of money in your account that you can never withdraw in dollars because all you’re doing is taking dollar money out of your account and replacing it with coins. Imagine the day when you might hit rock bottom after years of doing this and you go to the bank and say “I’d like to withdraw the last 217.42 that I have in my account” and they tell you “O.K. but 197.55 of that is in coins, do you have anything to carry them with?”

  • snatchpro

    March 20, 2011 at 6:35 am

It costs like a tenth of a penny to make one, but the line “every price should end in a five or a zero” is awesomely true.

  • jcrowley1985

    April 8, 2011 at 6:13 pm

Not to mention that the copper it takes to produce one penny is worth about 2.5 cents. The mints LOSE money to make these things. Which explains why all pennies made after 1982 are not even copper anymore, but merely Zinc and a mix of other worthless metals.

  • PhilipHanan

    September 18, 2011 at 12:28 am

I picked up a penny the other day. A few months ago, I counted all my pennies before I took them to a Coinstar. I also carry 4 pennies with me at all times. it’s rare I ever need more than four in one day. Pennies may not make sense to you, but they make cents to me.

      January 23, 2012 at 11:42 am

@HakumenKing101 In Latvia we have santims… THey suck. We have 1 santim, 2 santims, 5 santims, 10 santims, 20 santims, 50 santims and only then come lats… -_- Our currency looks nice, BUT WE DON’T NEED THE FUC*ING SANTIMS, that are a smaller number than 5!

  • Shidow1123

  • March 20, 2012 at 3:06 am

Here in Germany I have the same problem, even the banks don’t want them.. You have to count them by hand and than wrap 50 pieces each into special papers..Bullshit!

  • electrojag

    May 21, 2012 at 8:50 am

Well back before prices skyrocketed pennies were useful for od numbered prices or for small prices in general. if we get worse inflation in the future you will say the same about dollars. and getting rid of them would make stoes round up to devisbles of five and prices will skyrocket further. Peniies are not bullshit. bullshit is your password system.

  • emowolfmaster

    June 8, 2012 at 7:57 pm

i dont know if anyone else knows this but in America, it costs about 2 cents to make 1 penny. not to mention it costs about 9 cents too make one nickel. we could save so much more money if we got rid of the one and five cent pieces.

  • Oswards306

    July 19, 2012 at 5:24 pm

I picked up so pennies on the floor at school and on the street sometimes if they’re not showing their tails

We don’t make pennies any-more in Canada. We stopped in late 2012.

  • January 27, 2013 at 3:01 pm

  • fob4eva

    September 9, 2013 at 2:52 am

In Canada, we don’t use the penny anymore. Everything gets rounded to 0 or 5.

  • Bludman2

    October 10, 2013 at 3:56 am

That’s why in Australia we don’t have Pennies anymore.

  • October 27, 2013 at 7:11 pm

Hey, I had to pay for my current driver’s license with pennies. They have their uses.

  • November 9, 2013 at 3:35 am

I work somewhere where taxes are automatically added onto the price, and everything ends in a quarter value, so all my register ever has is dollars or quarters. But people still fucking give me pennies! That’s some serious bullshit.

  • Joshua Perry

    December 16, 2013 at 1:43 pm

We just eliminated the penny less than a year ago here in Canada, and I must say, I don’t miss them. Now whenever I see a penny I laugh, like the one on my floor next to my garbage can. Must’ve been full of pennies, because I missed.

  • Evan Mckenna

    January 13, 2014 at 12:39 am

Where I live in Canada pennies are now obsolete. Prices are rounded up ($1.52 becomes $1.50, $1.56 becomes $1.55, $1.58 becomes $1.60). Pennies are no longer being produced and stores are not accepting pennies anymore

  • Ryan Cleary

    May 30, 2014 at 10:54 am

    100% Agree.

  • November 19, 2014 at 11:56 pm

This is exactly why Canada got rid of the penny. It takes 1.5 cents worth of copper to mint a penny. Wasteful and worthless save as scrap metal now. Banks won’t even take them anymore. And if you want the scrap value, you have to melt them down. Flies in the face of the laws against defacing money, but I guess not since the penny isn’t even counted as legal tender anymore in Canada. Take a hint United States and follow Canada for a change.

  • March 8, 2015 at 8:41 am

You do realize those banks have those coin counters to do it all for you, plus, just stack a certain amount to another to count it evenly. It saves time from counting every last bit one by one, plus I find them more than ever than other coins combined daily. People who have patience tend to live with them like pennies. They’re more like crumbs because collecting enough can help you live better.

  • Whiskey Clone

    October 23, 2015 at 9:09 pm

They don’t bother me at all. I keep them in a cash box, and that overfills, I put them in a sack and empty them into the nearest CoinStar and come back with close to $100.

  • MelancholyRose

    November 24, 2015 at 12:21 pm

We have a big tobacco can where we stuff all of our pennies into. There are pennies in it that are so old that they’re tarnished. We never take pennies out of it. We only put pennies IN, and we never look back.

  • December 25, 2015 at 1:02 pm

I think your video ruined Canada…

  • Mick

    August 8, 2017 at 8:38 pm

Plus, you don’t say “He got pennied to death.” It’s nickel and dimed. We could melt them all and use it to provide wired cable and internet to rural communities. Or see how many I can shove up someone’s butt before they die from poisoning or explode. Pennies are neat again.
