Krampus (2015) Monster Madness X #31
October 31, 2016 at 4:38 am
I really enjoyed this one. A nice lead-in into the Christmas season, too…
And with that, 10 long years of Monster Madness comes to a close.
Happy Halloween, everybody.
I’m going to fucking kill myself now.
October 31, 2016 at 5:41 am
Maybe we could coerce James into bringing it back with somekind of suicide pack. Kidding.. :'(
October 31, 2016 at 9:26 am
I am very disappointed that in 10 years no single mention of Hostel. In fact, James hasnt even watched the fist movie! Really?? Such a horror fan and no Hostel at all on his list? Hard to believe…
October 31, 2016 at 11:01 am
Hostel was pretty lame. Hardly horror, just a couple gore scenes. Forgettable story, scenes, and the atmosphere was more trashy than horror.
October 31, 2016 at 7:07 pm
Hostel is very far from James’ style. I can understand why he didn’t review it along with a ton of other modern horror.
November 1, 2016 at 12:06 pm
Lets be honest. Many of the movies reviewed by James are some serious shit too and way worse than Hostel. So there is no reason for him not to review it.
November 2, 2016 at 8:28 am
Hostel is more torture pr*n (yes intentionally misspelled) than anything. It isn’t a horror movie at all.
November 3, 2016 at 1:26 pm
Torture porn is not even a genre. Hostel is HORROR. It does concentrate on gore but there are many kinds of horror.
November 17, 2016 at 12:56 am
Uhh…Torture porn isn’t a genre per se, but rather a disparaging description. Shit like Hostel and Human Centipede fall into this.
Movies like this are a collection of scenes depicting gratuitous and brutal violence and mutilation connected by the barest, most paper thin excuse of a plot possible.
David Cronenberg is ashamed that movies like this are lumped into the “body horror” genre.
October 31, 2016 at 10:59 am
lmao. Best comment
October 31, 2016 at 11:24 am
The end HAPPY HALLOWEEN everyone 10 years as past with you and James I feel empty inside now there’s something missing and I don’t know what I do in october 2017 … Monster Madness you’ll be missed… R.I.P Nice one James BRAVO!
October 31, 2016 at 11:32 am
CAn’t belevie it’s over … why sacrifice …. Been 10 good year what a nice swan song JAmes
October 31, 2016 at 4:41 am
This is the end, beautiful friend. This is the end, my only friend. The end of our elaborate plans. The end of everything that stands, the end. No safety or surprise, the end. I’ll never look into your eyes again.
October 31, 2016 at 8:25 am
Yeah… I’m a little heartbroken that it’s finally over… 🙁
I wish James had done another full commentary on another public domain horror film like he did with Night of the Living Dead.
Maybe some other time I guess.
October 31, 2016 at 4:48 am
October 31, 2016 at 4:57 am
Ten years of Monster Madness, and not a single mention of Phantasm, even as a runner-up in a list? Here’s hoping you get to it in a stand-alone review someday. Not that I haven’t enjoyed everything else you’ve reviewed over the years- you have unveiled a lot of obscure ones that I’ve enjoyed, and deepened my appreciation of others. Halloween just won’t be as good without Monster Madness, but I guess all things must end eventually. Thanks for everything, James!
October 31, 2016 at 5:05 am
Thanks for the memories James. I don’t know how I’ll feel when October 2017 arrives but I’m sure that I’ll be looking forward to another Nerd review and whatever movies you may cover. Happy Halloween, Cinemassacre!
October 31, 2016 at 9:24 am
October 31, 2016 at 5:25 am
Thank you, James! I was hoping for a Krampus review to close the final Monster Madness, as I loved the movie and it segues perfectly to Christmas.
Happy Halloween James and gang!!
October 31, 2016 at 5:36 am
Thanks for the many years of horror reviews, James. Long live Halloween!
October 31, 2016 at 5:37 am
I can’t believe you did TEN YEARS of Monster Madness and not ONCE covered BAD TASTE. You even had it as your picture for WTF Wednesdays. I thought, surely he’s going to cover it this year so people find out about this gem. Dead Alive is great and all, but a lot of people already knew about that movie. How could you never cover Bad Taste? 🙁 You’ve obviously seen it.
October 31, 2016 at 5:43 am
Lots of movies he didn’t cover to be honest. Idk why Monster Madness had to be 31 days of stuff or none. Seems extreme. Maybe James was getting tired of it.
October 31, 2016 at 5:38 am
Yayyy.. Now the christmas crap is up in stores.
October 31, 2016 at 6:17 am
I live in austria where the cult of Krampus originated, and if you’re interrested in this tradition, on youtube there is a lot of videos where people celebrate the Krampus event in my country. Type in “Perchtenlauf”. Here for example: https://youtu.be/Sp2AfjOu1Jo?t=36
October 31, 2016 at 7:02 am
I remember how Krampus visited us 25 years ago and we were scared as hell, of course it was some family member dressed up 😀
But in general, the entire punishment thing has faded and nowadays it is treated like Nikolo, meaning you get gifts (mostly chocolate, nuts and apples).
October 31, 2016 at 6:19 am
Some time in the future try your luck with Big Biting Pig productions…….indy horror movies filmed in KY of all places. I promise you it’s worth your time to explore
October 31, 2016 at 7:05 am
Thanks James, going to miss these.
October 31, 2016 at 7:08 am
Happy Halloween to all, here’s to 10 great years of Monster Madness!
October 31, 2016 at 7:21 am
Happy Halloween everyone. Goodbye to Monster Madness. It was the highlight of my fall. Bitter sweet, but I marked out when he mentioned a new film project.
October 31, 2016 at 7:35 am
I have watched all the Monster Madness over the 10 years and never commented, just not my thing. But since this is your last I wanted to say thank you for the work you put into every October. Me, not even a big horror fan, enjoyed all the reviews and looked forward to it every year. I look forward to all the new projects and keep up the great work on your site.
October 31, 2016 at 7:40 am
For the past five years I’ve been anticipating Monster Madness each year and frequently re-watch previous years videos leading up to the event. It’s been my own Halloween tradition and to see it end is tremendously bitter-sweet. Thank you for all of your hard work, James and Mike, these will be missed.
October 31, 2016 at 7:41 am
Wonderful work, James. Next year just won’t be the same without MM. Oh well, I can always rewatch the AVGN Halloween episodes, and 10 years of movie reviews will keep me busy. THANK YOU for all your hard work!
October 31, 2016 at 8:36 am
And fuck you Mike, you cunt.
October 31, 2016 at 9:03 am
So I sent a looong text some hours ago. It wasn’t released here sooo.. is it moderated or was anything wrong?
October 31, 2016 at 10:47 am
If it had the word that begins with f and ends in irst, it won’t post.
October 31, 2016 at 9:05 am
I am honestly sad the monster madness ends here and today. Even if it bears the title of this year’s Monster Madness. Monster Madness has been a highlight for me every year. But to hear that you’ll make more film reviews, and even a new movie project will start to sound promising. James I Thank You For 10 years of Monster Madness and a collection of good and slanting horror films I did not know
October 31, 2016 at 9:08 am
Great job as always. Feeling a little nostalgic about all the Monster Madness! Time to go rewatch the Godzillathon. Thanks James, and Happy Halloween!
James…Thank you so much for making my favorite time of year that much more special. I’m not one for traditions as a rule but Monster Madness became one, hardcore. Always-always-always looked forward to it. Sad as hell to see it go but your rationale makes perfect sense and just like setting the Nerd aside for Board James, you’ve gotta let yourself focus on new ideas that compell you. It’s sure to bring us some amazing content. Happy Halloween.
October 31, 2016 at 10:15 am
I will miss Monster Madness. I dont celebrate Halloween, this holiday have no meaning to mee, but every year i was celebrating Monster Madness with you James. Good times.
Anyway, there is one more good horror christmas movie from last year – A Christmas Horror Story. Check it someday.
October 31, 2016 at 10:37 am
Hey James, just got to say this: Thanks for introducing me to some classic horror movies over the years, and rekindling my interest of the Halloween season and all things fun and spooky.
October 31, 2016 at 10:53 am
One nitpick here James–as someone who grew up in a bilingual household, that sort of talking and responding in different languages isn’t uncommon in my experience.
Anyway…10 years, but it’s definitely been awesome, and it’s definitely introduced me to new things. Seeing the old intro at the end bought back a smile, and I wish you the best of luck with your new projects. 🙂
October 31, 2016 at 12:13 pm
Happy Halloween James, maybe for a new project you could Go hunting for real life Ghosts and Monsters, like beast of certain area or the ghost of some town. Something like that.
October 31, 2016 at 12:33 pm
October will truly never be the same without Monster Madness. Gonna miss this so much James :'( I hope you can make a horror film in the near future, some sort of homage to classic horror. I know you’d make something truly great. Thank you so much for the last 10 years of hard work, you’ve shed light on so many great horror movies and done a great service to the genre! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
October 31, 2016 at 12:45 pm
Thank you for giving us Monster Madness this past decade. You have done a great service, I must admit I got a bit misty at the end of this one, thanks again for making Halloween that much better for so long!
October 31, 2016 at 12:57 pm
Thank you, James and anyone who helped out on Monster Madness over the years. I have been watching it every October since Godzillathon and I sure am going to miss it.
October 31, 2016 at 1:32 pm
please make a horror film of you own James, we’re all curious about your film making capabilities.
October 31, 2016 at 2:15 pm
Good buy for now Monster Madness… James, I was already a big fan of classic horror before I began watching you’re videos but I’ve always really enjoyed them as one of my favorite Halloween traditions and you’ve introduced me to so many films I had no idea even existed and have come to really enjoy. Off the top of my head; the films of Val Lewton, the Monster Squad, The Black Cat and the Raven, The Man They Could Not Hang, The Dr Phibes Movies, Alice Sweet Alice, Infra Man, and two films that have become favorites of mine, Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires and City of the Dead not to mention countless others. This has been a pretty good send off and we’re alll gonna miss it, hope you find some small way to celebrate with us again next year. Happy Halloween to you sir, Happy Halloween beautiful friends.
October 31, 2016 at 2:32 pm
Thanks for 10 years of Monster Madness! Discovered a lot of good movies this way!
October 31, 2016 at 2:59 pm
Many Thanks James for all hard work on this year Monster Madness in other words 🙂 You prooved the justice of our culture no go rest our hero heheh.
October 31, 2016 at 3:16 pm
Great movie to end it all! Definitely gotta watch this one with my bro. =)
October 31, 2016 at 3:30 pm
Thank you for all 31 reviews and thank you for all the monster madness you given us! I would wanna mention that there is a tv series that you could maybe take a look at and talk abit about, its called Mary Shelly’s Frankenhole, lots of classic horror characters in stop-motion comedy show, Maybe something for next year or so 😀
October 31, 2016 at 4:06 pm
Thanks for all the great years James…we all appreciate the effort you put into entertaining us during the Halloween season and the rest of the year as well!!
October 31, 2016 at 4:47 pm
Thank you James, it was an entertaining time.
I understand your reasons to put this to an end, but I´m also looking forward to the new projects coming up, someday.
October 31, 2016 at 5:13 pm
I just remember the American Dad episode about Krampus. It predates this one and came out the same year as the 2013 one.
October 31, 2016 at 5:29 pm
Been a fan for 5 years love it all. Keep everything going.
October 31, 2016 at 5:30 pm
Happy Halloween!! Monster Madness X was great, thanks James!
October 31, 2016 at 5:47 pm
But why no mention of Spider Baby?
October 31, 2016 at 7:12 pm
James, It has been an amazing 10 years watching Monster Madness. Every year gets me excited for it. I’m sad to see it go, but cant wait to see what else you have in store for us. As a long time fan of all that you have made,
October 31, 2016 at 9:40 pm
Thank you, James & Mike. Monster Madness is my favourite Halloween tradition, and it will live on through the old videos. I love this site all year round, but at no time more than during October!
October 31, 2016 at 9:56 pm
Continue this m*therf*cker! this was GREAT. I see you’re getting back to the way you used to make videos.
Keep it up!
October 31, 2016 at 9:57 pm
Sorry, this comment was made for the AVGN episode 🙂
October 31, 2016 at 11:12 pm
You should definitely release a Monster Madness DVD with all 10 years. There’s no question I’ll want to revisit the videos and the convenience of having them in one DVD would be awesome.
November 1, 2016 at 10:41 pm
That would be awesome, but somehow I doubt possible due to copyright. Probably why the Youtube videos only include screen shots, as well.
October 31, 2016 at 11:26 pm
Odd movie to send the series out on, being Christmas related and all, but it’s one of the most entertaining modern movies I’ve seen in a long time. I went to it last year with my dad near Christmas, not expecting much at all and I thought it was great, one of the best horror movies of the last decade. Sad to see the series go as it’s my favorite internet series-thing but ending it at ten while it’s still as good as it’s ever been is understandable. Thanks for putting it together for ten years.
October 31, 2016 at 11:36 pm
Great run James! Fantastic 10 years past! I look forward to things to come. 🙂
November 1, 2016 at 12:41 am
I know you probably don’t read all the comments, but I’d just like to say thank you for 10 years of excellent Monster Madness videos. It’s been something I looked forward to every October. Halloween has always been my very favourite holiday, so it was like getting a small present for every day of the month.
I’m wondering if future Monster Madness could potentially be made from user submitted content (though only because I feel somewhat inspired to make my own video), but I’m sure that would come with it’s own hassles of reviewing a bunch of reviews! Perhaps I will make my own video anyway.
Either way, I look forward to any future movie reviews! I always send anyone interested in getting into horror films a link to the Monster Madness videos and will continue to do so. I learned an awful lot!
Happy Halloween! May the ghosts and goblins be good to you!
November 1, 2016 at 1:35 am
Thanks James for 10 awesome years. I looked forward to MM every year. Sad it’s going but I’m interested to see what you do. It would be awesome if you did kick starters and made more real movies. You should write a movie kind of like a Clerks but for an Arcade setting in the 80’s and 90’s There has never been a movie based on an Arcade in the 90’s and with all the nostalgia everyone loves now a days from 80’s and 90’s kids I bet it would be really popular.
November 1, 2016 at 1:45 am
I’ve always thought October was never long enough for all the Halloween/Oktoberfest/fall things I enjoy. Anyway, thanks for all the marathons, guys! They were fun, and I learned some cinema history.
November 1, 2016 at 9:47 am
Ugh, this was the last movie I saw in theaters and I couldn’t have been more disappointed. Sad to see this is the last Monster Madness review… FUCK!
Any who, here’s to 10 awesome years of Monster Madness, hope to see it return in some fashion some day, even if it’s a new spin with by Mike and Bootsy!
November 1, 2016 at 10:58 am
Thanks for another year of Monster Madness.
November 1, 2016 at 1:59 pm
Thanks so much James for all your hard work. It has been an incredible treat. Looking forward to what you have planned next.
November 1, 2016 at 2:47 pm
I can’t believe that it’s over, after all this time. My Halloween will never be the same. I’ll miss the eerie atmosphere of these vids, especially the very end, which lured you onward towards some dark, and unknown fate. Ladies and gentlemen, it has been an honor. Thanks for joining in with me on this ride!
November 1, 2016 at 2:54 pm
But you know, James.. I don’t think you’re done with the series, not just yet. Maybe when you’ve had some time off, and you’ve done what you wanted to do, you’ll get the urge to do this again. But for now, goodbye Monster Madness. And thanks for the memories!
November 1, 2016 at 6:31 pm
I can’t belive I’m watching your for 10 years…
November 1, 2016 at 7:51 pm
I liked this movie but like the Gremlins I think of this as a Christmas movie not Halloween. They had comedy actors in it which even though it was scary it was fun to watch with some comedy in it. I am sure they did it that way so they could get away with the gore and make it not that scary. I don’t think James should make movies but he would be a good writer for movies or producer. Leave the whole making of a movie to someone else though.
November 1, 2016 at 11:16 pm
James, I’ve consistently enjoyed Monster Madness for 10 years now and I’m saddened to hear this is the last one. I always looked forward to October and your reviews, Monster Madness made the whole month feel that much more in the season’s spirit.
That being said, I thank you for all the time and effort you’ve put into this! I’ll sorely miss Monster Madness.
November 2, 2016 at 6:47 am
Thx James my wife and I watched a ton of the monster madness reviews! I even commented on a few. My favorite recommendations were Brain dead (the comedy horror) The shining, and all the alien reviews. I only work part time so I am constant need of entertainment, your lists have helped us from being bored. In most cases I enjoyed each movie more because of your review.
November 2, 2016 at 6:51 am
*I am IN constant need of entertainment (correction) error
November 2, 2016 at 8:42 am
“oh no james didnt review the movie i seen over and over” hes still going to do reviews. and you don’t need his justifications on somethings that you like.
November 3, 2016 at 10:00 am
Monster Madness was something I really looked forward to every year.. too bad this is the last one… 🙁 It’s been awesome and also really helpful to expand our knowledge of horror movies!! Let me just say thank you James and Mike!! 🙂 🙂
November 4, 2016 at 2:46 am
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
Director: Scott Glosserman
“In the years following Scream there was no shortage of films attempting similar deconstructions of the horror genre, but few deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the criminally underseen Behind the Mask. […] Every, and I mean every horror fan needs to see Behind the Mask.”
November 6, 2016 at 12:43 am
Great. So no more nerd videos and no more monster madness? That’s what’s Bulls hit
November 6, 2016 at 12:13 pm
Nice ending. I wish you’d review “santas slay” one year. Great Christmas horror film.
November 7, 2016 at 1:00 pm
You are the best! All this videos are priceless and some of the best horror stuff to be found on the whole wide web! Cheers from Buenos Aires.
