July 13, 2016 at 10:22 pm
I never heard of this game before.

Ugh I keep posting my comment and it doesn’t show up. I’m not swearing or anything, is there a filter?

I’ve noticed that if you post two paragraphs or anything longer than the space of the text box then it won’t show up.

Yes! That bug is annoying like hell! I also think it has something to do with paragraph or copy/paste.
July 14, 2016 at 2:14 pm
Yep, that’s it. It’s pretty annoying trying to get your thoughts across in so few words
July 13, 2016 at 10:30 pm
Mike, have you heard of a game called Nightshade for NES? It’s really interesting, I’d love your thoughts on it.

Actually the crowbar snaps in two.

It’s such an interesting and unique game, I wish they would talk about it sometime.
July 13, 2016 at 10:32 pm
I’ve been trying to get this message to you for months, it would mean a lot to me if you streamed it sometime.

Loved the arcade version. ATTACK!
July 13, 2016 at 11:42 pm
You need to play the arcade version. It has a rotating joystick mechanic that works great!

Heavy Barrel was like what Ikari Warriors was supposed to be. Solid controls, awesome power ups, seamless coop
July 14, 2016 at 1:32 am
I’ve played this one in famicom, but what I played was a mod called Chip And Dale 3
July 14, 2016 at 4:48 am
Oh god.. I’m such a trekkie.

Eliminator Boat Duel and Gold Medal Challenge are some fun lesser known 2 player games.

The game is more “fair” once you realize that you have ammo for the guns you pick up (besides the heavy barrel). You can keep your special guns much longer when you aren’t spamming away the ammo. Watch the ammo counter at the bottom of the screen. Great classic game.

What this guy said.—^ Plus, it’s the red dudes that drop keys, and you can only hold 4 keys at a time, each. There are different types of grenades, just like weapons. And you need 6 pieces to assemble the HEAVY BARREL and those come from chests too. Also, there’s a stage select code. I used it to practice later levels.
July 14, 2016 at 11:29 am
The weapons you pick up have finite ammo, it’s displayed on the bottom right.
July 14, 2016 at 2:44 pm
It was great in the arcade. What’s missing from this version is that when you assemble the gun in the arcade the digitized VO says “HEAVY BARREL!” Also as another poster said the joystick was fantastic, as was the joystick in Ikari Warriors.
July 14, 2016 at 2:45 pm
Not only does the joystick move you in 8 directions, but you can spin the joystick and it rotates your character. So you can move in one direction and fire in another, very useful for strafing runs. Totally lost on the home ports.
Mike and Bootsy,
You guys need to try playing again while conserving your “special” ammo.
You only get limited ammunition for each gun you get, so picking your targets is crucial.
There are lots of enemies in this game that are better off left alone (the carts), and shooting your special ammo when there are no enemies on screen is a huge mistake.
Anyways, love your videos guys, I still check every day after all these years 🙂

I loved this game as a kid. I still put it in every now and again!
July 18, 2016 at 12:23 pm
“Is there something you can share with the rest of use Amazing Larry?” Awesome shirt Bootsy!
July 18, 2016 at 12:25 pm
us not use…what a dumb ass
July 19, 2016 at 7:56 am
How did you not notice the music during some parts of the game which are identical to Ikari Warriors.. At least during some parts of the game. Listen from 15:18 on wards.

I never heard of this either. Looks cool though.

Data East made a lot of fun games back in the day.

When I was a kid there was a local water park with a free arcade, and they had the arcade version of this game. the arcade machine was wicked fun. It’s also why the NES version is so hard. The game was originally designed to eat quarters. Thank goodness they had all the arcade machines set to free, after a $5 admission ticket!
