Monster Madness 10 – Announcement

James / June 15th, 2016

This year’s Monster Madness will be the 10th and the final marathon to include 31 movie reviews. It’s always been one of my favorite things I do, but in recent years, I have been stretching to fit 31 reviews. Finding the right movies is becoming a longer process. Completing 31 reviews takes several months.

Here are the many ways I could use my time differently.

-Bring back “You Know What’s Bullshit” or more AVGN

-Review more movies, spread throughout the year, rather than cramming 31 into October.

-Work on fresh new projects, ones that are in my head, that no one even knows about.

-Make an original horror film!

I will never stop reviewing horror films.

Halloween will always be celebrated on Cinemassacre.

There could even be a Mini-Monster Madness. The name will live on.

It’s fitting to end this format at 10 years. After all, Monster Madness has lasted longer than TNT’s MonsterVISION.

Awesome cat !!!!! & can’t wait for OCT.

    • June 21, 2016 at 10:33 am

And coincidences keep on. I was just recovering from losing one of my cats to a car some days ago when I decided to watch this without knowing James’ cat was going to make an appearance and yes, my cat was black too…

Always enjoyed Monster Madness but as the old saying goes, “all good things must come to an end!”

    • June 16, 2016 at 12:18 am

I never liked that saying. Who knows, 20 years from now James’s child might pick up the thing

      • August 30, 2016 at 6:23 am

She actually has a good chance at picking up “The Thing” in James’ basement.

  • June 15, 2016 at 4:21 pm

Just know that I appreciate what you’ve done with Monster Madness. I can’t even believe it’s been 10 years, but I know that after year 3 it had THE halloween tradition I enjoyed the most. No matter if it was my ex wife, ex girlfriends, friends, whatever. I always geeked out about Monster Madness every year. It’s sad that this will be my last year counting down the days for it, but I understand. I’m sitting here just amazed at how long I’ve stuck with you and Cinemassacre. Over 10 years. Now that’s entertainment…

Thanks, James. Looking forward to what you have coming in the future and really stoked about the last Monster Madness.

  • June 15, 2016 at 4:23 pm

Monster Madness is literally my favorite aspect of the year. It makes me so happy to come upon October and have it happen ๐Ÿ™‚ makes my year! But we understand. You’ve always been a busy-busy guy and it’s sad to hear them go :/ But hey, i’m still waiting for your next original film ๐Ÿ˜€ (Hoping for a serious one since the Nerd movie was a comedy)

    June 15, 2016 at 4:23 pm

Makes sense. I’m glad you’ll be putting more work into other projects that we still want to see. Would love to see more You Know What’s Bullshit!.

  • June 15, 2016 at 4:37 pm

Congrats on 10 years of MWAAAHNSTER MYAAAADNESS, James. I think this decision is for the best, and I look forward to whatever comes next.

A few movies that need to be done:

American Gothic (great, 80’s horror film)
Once Bitten (pretty good vampire flick starring Jim Carrey)

  • June 15, 2016 at 5:20 pm

The most logical thing to do is think about bringing someone else on to help you get these videos out to the public. As an entrepreneur and fan of the process and industry, you can’t just take something away from fans who love it and expect to keep those fans on board with your business. Unless you are thinking about changing target audiences or niches in the market, you have to find a way to continue appease your fans. AVGN, Board James, BS, and Monster Madness should never go away as long as you are in the business.

We all know that as your brand grows you cannot devote enough time to it. That’s why it’s a good idea to start bringing on more help. Mike, Ryan, and You is not enough to continue to grow if that’s what your goal in life is. Think about it.

    • June 15, 2016 at 5:27 pm

You may have missed the part in the video that explains why that won’t work. With opinionated reviews:
Writing – Has to be me.
Recording – Has to be me.
Editing – Ideally me, otherwise I have to spend time explaining to another person details on how it should be edited. Plus I’m fast at editing, and it’s my favorite part.

        June 15, 2016 at 5:35 pm

Yes but I don’t think it would be so bad to have other people doing opinionated reviews. Mike is a pretty nice person whose opinions are also fun to watch. Although it would probably be best to do an October Monster Madness Week. And have 7 reviews, that’d be more manageable no?

    • June 15, 2016 at 5:40 pm

We’ve done a lot with adding personalities to CInemassacre. Mike, Bootsy, Ryan have all been contributing with their own videos. Everybody has their work cut out for them.

With Monster Madness 2015, I tried adding Mike to 1/3 of the videos, and lots of people complained because the format wasn’t the same.

      • Iposatu Rasharugaria

        June 15, 2016 at 7:35 pm

I liked having Mike participate ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

        June 15, 2016 at 7:41 pm

I, for one, was a fan of those impromptu reviews between you and Mike. I think if you do anything long enough, eventually it’ll become accepted.

  • TheKiest

    June 15, 2016 at 5:35 pm

You’ve done so much for us already, I’m alright with having 10 monster madnesses I can watch whenever I want.

I’d also be ok with you taking a year off to collect yourself and so on, but you love to do this work.

Keep it up man. Looking forward to the last one.

  • Erwinator

    June 15, 2016 at 5:40 pm

I cannot wait. I always watch it daily every year

  • Skeletor

    June 15, 2016 at 5:48 pm

I have followed you since the Castlevania II review from the start. Nowdays I really enjoy the Mike and James mondays, Mike & Bootsy. I also liked the movie reviews. I think you should do more reviews and spread em out throughout the year. And pop out some AVGN like you do now. Board James was really nice. I enjoy when you explain shit and get in some background info about games and so on. Well what ever you do it will be awesome!

    • bud

      June 15, 2016 at 7:44 pm

I like the reviews for tentpole films (sprinkled throughout the year). It always seems to spark a lot of debate. Even the non-review for Ghostbusters 2016. It’s good to stay current.

  • Satnav

    June 15, 2016 at 5:56 pm

I’ll miss the tradition of Monster Madness, but I suppose after a decade it’s a good a time as any to try out new things. I’d love to see James move to original filmmaking–perhaps, as I and other fans have suggested, he can finally bring back the Jersey Odysseys or a successor or sorts, as a more serious thing to complement the usual goofy webseries. ๐Ÿ™‚ As long as James does something for October, and we all know he will, I say go for this.

    • JayRam

      June 15, 2016 at 7:20 pm

With James’ taste in movies, this site needs an anthology series and/or a horror show in which he plays host (like Joe Bob Briggs). Dr. Rolfenstein would be his stage name. It’s perfect.

Well, except for the money part.

  • June 15, 2016 at 6:02 pm

      June 15, 2016 at 6:33 pm

What I tried to post was I definitely like the scripted videos better and glad to see you returning to form. I look forward to more original content and if you do another feature I will be there to see it in theatres again! Avgn movie is awesome. I saw it in Waltham and have it on blueray. I am thinking of ripping a copy to VHs just for posterity. Also, you remind me a lot of Joe swanburg, doing things your way. He has some good horror films he has either produced or acted in. Would love to see you two come together.

  • JayRam

    June 15, 2016 at 7:00 pm

I’ll be honest, James: I started coming to this site in 2009. Although I already considered myself an inspiring filmmaker and semi-film buff then, watching Monster Madness is what really got me into checking out old horror films and older movies in general (and back into the Halloween spirit to boot). Because of MM, October/fall season has now become a favorite time of year for me; I see it as something quite special, to which no other month or season can be compared.

The month of October won’t be the same now, but I understand your reasons.

Maybe now that MM is taking a back seat, you can get around to finally making the next installment to The Jersey Odysseys (wish you’d give an update on this project).

  • The Wicker Man

    June 15, 2016 at 7:11 pm

Noooooooooooo………!!! The only thing I didn’t like about the you & Mike Monster Madness is that sometimes it was clear that you hadn’t watched the movies recently before doing the review.
I can only hope you’ve reviewed Zombie Women of Satan in this Monster Madness as it’s truly shit! On the flip side, I hope there’s a Housebound review in there as it’s rather good.

  • leperface

    June 15, 2016 at 7:18 pm

please James, make a horror movie…

you know you want to ๐Ÿ˜€

  • bud

    June 15, 2016 at 7:36 pm

Aw, I’m sorry to hear about this. But I get your reasons for doing so. This will be the last great Halloween to come. Lately I’ve been losing my Halloween spirit anyway, so I guess it’ll die with this.

Also, I just want to say I love that you make announcements from behind your “video” desk. It’s pretty damn cool. Even though I’m sure there’s bloopers of you having to hop in there and hop out. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • June 15, 2016 at 7:57 pm

I’d love to see you review other movies. Other series/genres of film , like the James Bond series and Spy films, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Kung fu films. Comedies like “Coming to America”. Maybe some foreign films like the italian film “The Monster” Starring Roberto Benigni and his other films including “Life is beautiful”.

  • June 15, 2016 at 8:24 pm

Use the extra time for more avgn. Why wouldnt you since that is mainly why everyone knowns about you and is your flagship series?

    • Satnav

      June 15, 2016 at 8:44 pm

Because he’s been doing that for a decade. I’m all for more AVGN, but I also want to see James branch out.

  • June 15, 2016 at 9:51 pm

For 2017 You should do a best of Monster Madness. Repost your best 31 MM vids. Not a lot of extra work next year:-)

    • bud

      June 16, 2016 at 6:00 pm

That’s a great idea. Maybe “remaster” them the way he did with the old AVGN episodes.

  • Firelord Lionheart

    June 15, 2016 at 9:53 pm

‘Evening, James. When I go to Cinemassacre, it’s mainly for your character shows like AVGN, BJ, YKWBS and all your behind the scenes stuff. I don’t even really watch James and Mike Mondays unless you’re playing a game I played. MM and movie reviewa do kinda take a backseat. Make no mistake, you’re a good film reviewer, but I mainly go to Cinemassacre to see James Rolfe the comedian, not the movie critic. I’ll watch MM of course, but when I get emails from Cinemassacre, I keep my fingers crossed for a new AVGN episode.

  • sirensofsilence

    June 15, 2016 at 10:01 pm

No problem, James! Ten years (around 300 films) is an amazing achievement.

  • juggernautakira

    June 15, 2016 at 10:07 pm

God damn. Growing up is depressing. Look, James, be a father, be a family man, do what you gotta do cuz wed like some Monster Madness, but if youre gonna half ass it while being one foot out the door, then just retire. We cant see you act like this near the end.

    • bud

      June 16, 2016 at 6:04 pm

I agree that growing up is depressing but he’s far far from the end. In fact, moving beyond AVGN, Board Games, Bullshit and Monster Madness may be his next evolution as a filmmaker. (As big a fan I am of all those series, maybe there’s something else he hasn’t created yet that I will love even more!)

  • Gorgar

    June 15, 2016 at 10:17 pm

Thank you for all of the years of Monster Madness. I actually discovered AVGN and Monster Madness separately on youtube. And it took me way too long to figure out that AVGN and the guy that reviewed monster movies was the same guy.

It was the Godzillathon that really got me into Monster Madness. Specifically James’s review for Godzilla’s Revenge, which I thought was hilarious.

I have always been a fan of the Godzilla movies and the Classic Universal Monster Movies, but Monster Madness helped me discover the Hammer movies and the Vincent Price/Roger Corman movies, which I now love. Monster Madness also got me into a lot of 80’s horror, which was a really fun decade for horror.

If James of Mike is reading this, you guys should check Spider Baby (starring Lon Chaney Jr). I think you guys would love this (I am guessing that you haven’t seen it yet since it hasn’t appeared on Monster Madness yet.)

  • Peter Tomlinson

    June 15, 2016 at 11:48 pm

I understand and fully respect your decision to end MM after 10 years but I’d be lying if I said that this video didn’t bum me out a little bit. Nevertheless it was fun while it lasted and October moving forward will never be the same without it. I hope that October 2017 and onward still have many horror reviews here on Cinemassacre. I also hope that one day my dream horror film gets made and that you, Mike and the rest of the team here will be able to give your thoughts on it.

  • June 16, 2016 at 12:03 am

Why don’t you just have people vote on what movies they want you to review? Then you can take the top 31 that you haven’t done yet and just watch those.

  • June 16, 2016 at 12:20 am

31 was just incredibly enormous. Just make a single 31th october Monster madness, I’d be more than happy with that.

    • bud

      June 16, 2016 at 6:01 pm

Definitely has to do something to commemorate Halloween (on the day), whether it’s an original horror flick, a horror-themed AVGN episode or a 31-minute long horror movie marathon review. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • June 17, 2016 at 10:53 pm

He really doesn’t have to call it Mini Monster Madness. If anything, 31 review was the Monstrous Monster Madness.

  • Hanglyman

    June 16, 2016 at 12:21 am

That’s cool. I’d prefer fewer reviews but having them all scripted rather than the unscripted ones with Mike last year. Really, anything at all is great. I’m really hoping you finally review the Phantasm movies this year, especially since the final one is supposedly coming out sometime in 2016.

As much as i love MM , i want to see you have a life next to this thing you do . And i don’t want to take anything away from your child’s time so that we can have MM or AVGN .
So i’ll be watching what you want to bring to us with great respect and a little adoration …
whatever you come out with , i am sure it will be great !

Can’t wait for October. I always make sure to wear my Monster Madness T-shirt throughout the month, and knowing this one will be the most special, it’ll mean a lot more. Thanks for all the hard work James and Mike! You guys are fucking awesome!

  • June 16, 2016 at 1:30 am

James, I have an idea to solve the problem with monster madness, do a colaboration, you as curator select the 31 movies and asign them to diferent reviewers and the reviews get posted in your channel. No one will say no to you , its a great oportunity for other reviewers and can be a nice new tradition!!

  • Dr. Breakfastmachine

    June 16, 2016 at 1:52 am

Keep the spirit up review only 10 or less but still entertaining horror movies. That would be awesome to. Mini monster madness.

Personally, I’d be okay with Monster Madness becoming like a 7 day deal, showing the videos the last week of Halloween. I understand completely, but I will miss MM dearly. Thanks for everything, James (and Mike).

    RIP Monster Madness

    June 16, 2016 at 5:43 am

To everyone out there depressed over James’s decision: take it with a grain of salt. Think of how many times an artist has announced retirement while they obviously still have the fire for it and later made a comeback. It puts the pressure off you, makes you do it of your own will. Even when you put down an offer or invitation someone else makes, it’s easier to accept it later because you didn’t commit to it hastily. Hell, Nostalgia Critic came back in less than a year because Doug Walker just wasn’t done with it. (That or… commercial reasons, you know.) In fact, I’ve found that something’s more likely to die out slowly and inadvertently rather than by decision.
My point is, if James really has the fire, I bet he’ll do it. Only he knows if he does. May not be next year, or the next after that, but eventually.

  • June 16, 2016 at 7:09 am

Makes totally sense… I was somehow expecting that to happen.. it’s been 10 years of awesomeness!! Thank you James ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Vulch

    June 16, 2016 at 8:37 am

Thank you James for this 10 years of investment in Monster Madness. At one point I couldn’t wait to come home and watch Monster Madness at evening. MM even inspired me to buy and watch some of those reviewed horror movies on Halloween night. But lately I, myself, couldn’t find time to watch it every evening. So I guess it’s really a good time to end this before it becomes something you have to shove down somebody’s throat (a dick for example XD).

I’d love to see an original horror movie from you guys! New projects, would be welcome! You’ve always got my dollars and attention CM! Thanks for AVGN, reviews/analysis, and uploading JR’s kid/college movie projects!

Also, big fan of the AVGN games and Mike/Bootsy/Ryan are great on their own and/or as additions. Really like those livestreams/discussions.

  • senseipose

    June 16, 2016 at 9:27 am

This makes a lot of sense to me. I think it is better to have the content come out consistently then all in one month. As a daily Cinemassacre watcher, the biggest draw is the regular addition of new videos. That is the most important tradition of the site for me.

  • June 16, 2016 at 10:02 am

It would also be very okay to make less episode in monster madness or just do a AVGN horror episode where you can maybe talk about the movie and game? For me your best stuff nowadays is monster madness and other videos where you talk about interesting stuff, not so the AVGN and let’s plays.

James try out Austrian Horrormovies like “Funny Games 1997”, “Blutgletscher 2013”, “In 3 Tagen bist du tot 2006” or “Attack of the Lederhosenzombies 2015”! Yeah and I mean AUSTRIA, no kangourous! =)

That would be one downer of a Monster Madness.

A good virtually impossible movie to find is Judgement Day from 1988 starring Cesar Romero. It’s only on hard to find VHS (I paid more than I wanted to in an auction) Definitely look it up, it is a truly unique, bizarre movie, one of those movies that makes you feel like your trapped with the character.

    June 16, 2016 at 10:55 pm

Sorry to hear that you’re ending Monster Madness, James. I understand your reasons for doing so, but Halloween won’t be the same. To be honest, I’ve wondered how the series could keep going, and have sensed at times (contrary to what you said in the video) that you would run out of horror motives to do. Or at least… good ones. But I’m glad that you’re going to do other projects, and I think that part of it is pretty great. Keep on, keepin on.

P.S. As for the mini-monster Madness…why not? That idea came to me as I was watching this. If you can have a 12 Days of S***smas, why not 7 days of Monster Madness?

I’m VERY curious if you saw the movie from a couple years ago “Escape From Tomorrow” and what you thought about it. Also “You’re Next” since the soundtrack has a definite 70’s/80’s horror feel.

    June 17, 2016 at 5:10 pm

Maybe we can actually get more AVGN then, its been rather skimp as of light ever sense the nerd movie, I would rather see more Nerd and more of the unscripted reviews than worry about 31 or even 15 scripted ones. I like the scripted ones, they are ok, but just ok

  • June 17, 2016 at 6:59 pm

Cool, understandable. Be sure to do what you love, whether it’s original films or experimentation. But your horror reviews are and always were sweet, sweet sugar. So please find the time to cram those in whenever you can throughout the year. Your site makes my hangovers enjoyable.

  • Guillaume Beck

    June 17, 2016 at 7:20 pm

Well James might not stop it completely … just change the formula for something lighter and not as time consuming.
I’m pretty sure he likes Halloween too much not to celebrate it with his fans each year even though it won’t necessarily be with the monster madness we know and love.

  • Chess_czar

    June 17, 2016 at 10:27 pm

Halloween was always my favorite holiday. Better than Christmas, better than birthdays. The campiness, the spookiness, the change in the air that you can feel every day as it gets colder and darker…

When I found Monster Madness and Cinemassacre, I was floored. I think I joined in Year 3, and as the years have gone on, I’ve tried to re-watch previous years even, to overload my October days. I must have watched the AVGN Castlevania series a dozen times by now. In short, MM truly has become a tradition.

And, James, I know you said not to be said, but I am. I will always enjoy the old videos, and I’m so excited for this year’s final full marathon, but knowing it’s the last, well, honestly, that kind of sucks.

But hey, here’s an idea. Have you thought of opening it up to the fans? I’m sure other people would be able to, and would love to make their own reviews. What if the fans did half, and you did half, to still get to 31? Just a thought.

In any event, even though it’s only June, I can’t WAIT for October 2016!

Hi James. Longtime follower and fellow Halloween lover. I love Halloween so much that I take my annual vacation the week of Halloween so I can just spend a week and a half watching scary movies, drinking lots of beer, playing horror video games, and eating lots of candy. Your Monster Madness is one of the things I have enjoyed in Halloweens past that helped me to get in the spirit of things. That said, I certainly understand how demanding of your time this can be, and how it can limit other projects you want to try out, so don’t feel guilty at all.

If I may make a hopeful suggestion. You mentioned horror movie hosts, and in the past you did some great commentaries of classic horror movies as we watched along. I really loved those, as it reminded me of watching Joe Bob Briggs as a teenager, or Big Chuck and Little John in the early years when they played more horror movies. Perhaps you could do one or two of those full movie commentaries during Halloween, perhaps even one on Twitch where we can all watch and chat together. Just a thought.

I freaking love Monster Madness. You made me love horror movies, James, I owe that!

I look forward to Monster Madness every year. Stick with 10. From now on its 10 reviews every year for Monster Madness! Maybe?

Love Monster Madness. Sad to see it go, but I totally understand. I do hope it remains in some form. Even if it’s one a 4-5 episode thing (one per week). I look forward to it every year!

My goal is to always watch at least one movie a week that I haven’t seen yet ๐Ÿ™‚ Most of the time I manage to do this every week. So James, try this with horror movies. Although, I don’t think you would wan’t to see one horror movie every week?!

    June 19, 2016 at 5:29 am

Great to hear your’e doing it again! horror-october is a big thing for me, I only watch horror or horror-related movies, I organize small movie-nights each weekend with double-features for my friends etc. Good times.

  • June 19, 2016 at 10:44 am

Will you review Michael Bay’s Chainsaw Massacre movie? I’m curious to know your reasons why it is listed as number 7 in your top 10 horror remakes. There’s also a sequel; ‘The Beginning.’ It has a cliche ending but it is a prequel to the remake. I wonder if it’s a bad prequel or a so-so movie. It reveal Letherface’s backstory but it may be similar to someone else’s backstory. I don’t know but you be the judge because you are the man to review it. If it’s not on your list, maybe next time then.

  • June 19, 2016 at 3:16 pm

I’m OK with just 10 no need to out all out with 31. I wound love to see him do The Gingerbread Man and The Evil Bong line of movies. The Crossover; Gingerbread Man vs Evil Bong needs to it’s video after doing both.

  • June 19, 2016 at 5:02 pm

Oh, that’s too bad. I love Monster Madness. But if you keep it up and leave it at 15 or something then that would be cool.

How about a couple movie reviews, a horror game nerd review and a board james horror game review?

    June 19, 2016 at 9:22 pm

I have to admit I re-watch the MM all the time. But i am sure one ting will give way to another.

  • June 20, 2016 at 2:44 am

I’m bummed. I love monster madness. It’s my favorite Halloween tradition. I know that I’m just being selfish when I say this.. but I don’t understand how he doesn’t have time to do the reviews. I mean.. correct me if I’m wrong, but James doesn’t have a full time job. Making videos is his job and how he pays the bills. Why would you stop making the videos that your followers love the most? AVGN is okay. I’m here for the Monster Madness.

I’m just sad about it. I respect James in his decision, even if I don’t completely understand it.

Thanks for making 10 years of Monster Madness.

  • June 20, 2016 at 4:33 am

I’ve an idea for how Monster Madness can continue. James can make a character that is a host who introduces reviews of horror movies done by fans of Cinemassacre. Fans make, edit and everything else involved their own horror movie reviews and send them into Cinemassacre and james chooses the 31 fan made reviews he will host that year. James could introduce it kinda like how horror movies were introduced back in Monster Vision and say who the review is from. This could be great as it would let the fans to become an active part of Monster Vision and allow it to continue for years to come.๏ปฟ

  • June 20, 2016 at 4:42 am

You should review “Brainscan.” Great movie!

  • simms1

    June 20, 2016 at 2:07 pm

Is the content going to be the same for all of the videos uploaded to YouTube? Pretty much only public domain or just stills of the movies?

  • June 21, 2016 at 1:51 pm

I am ok with no more Monster Madness next year. Allthough I will miss it because that is where I have found some of the stranger horror movies like “Spookies” and “Basket Case”. Come to find out I love the campyness of them. I’m glad AVGN will live on, it is indeed my favorite on Cinemassacre, and the way I came to find out about Cinemassacre/ScrewAttack. Keep up the excellent work James and Mike!

    June 22, 2016 at 2:41 am

I’d be fine with a mini, or heck once a week+ Halloween (5 videos total)

That said…I said it before and I’ll say it again, I do pray Wishmaster is in this. It’s made by Wes Craven for petes sake! (And I think with a cameo of Robert Englund in 1.)

  • June 22, 2016 at 3:01 pm

Ten seasons of gold man. I can not wait for the Monster Madness finale, I look forward to it every year. The video’s are also re-watchable and timeless, the legacy will live on for horror nerds.

  • June 23, 2016 at 6:40 am

Whatever you need to do, the real fans will support you.

  • Dennis Sparta

    June 24, 2016 at 2:34 pm

Are you going to review “It Follows”. I thought it was one of the freshest horror films I’ve seen in a while. The soundtrack was great. Like a combo of Trent Reznor and John Carpenter’s Halloween score.

  • June 24, 2016 at 3:28 pm

Sad to see it end, but goddamn its been a great 10 years. Monster Madness has been a highlight of my year and you always spoke to me on my level for a love of horror and halloween. Looking forward to MMX!

  • June 25, 2016 at 4:32 am

R.I.P. Monster Madness, you will be missed.

  • June 26, 2016 at 3:21 pm

Disappointing but exciting at the same time. This could be a good chance to even reboot the series as the 13 Days of Monster Madness for a 13 episode block each year or Monster Madness X:1 for a 10 episode block each year.

PLEASE, for the final Monster Madness series, PLEASE REVIEW THE FEAST TRILOGY!
I’ve been posting and commenting on this for years. Please do it, dude. It’ll be awesome. PUH-LEASE. Feast Trilogy.

  • July 2, 2016 at 4:50 pm

Hey James, I haven’t seen you cover this movie before, but maybe you did and I missed it…but in the event you didn’t, and have never seen it, I have to recommend it – it’s not even a B movie more like C or D but it came out in the early 80s I think and I vividly recall being scared just by looking at the sleeve at my local video rental store in the mid 1980s! The move is entitled, The Capture of Bigfoot. I hope you’ll check it out cuz it’s so bad it’s good!!

  • July 4, 2016 at 7:22 am

I miss TNT monster vision. it like james, it introduced me to a lot of good horror films, people from under the stairs, night of the living dead, swamp thing and many more.

  • July 4, 2016 at 2:40 pm

Jay, you have to do night of the demons 1988. I’m 32 and I still love this film. Hook a brother up.

    July 8, 2016 at 2:20 am

Cheers James, Monster Madness has been a lot of fun. Sad to see it go, but at least it will be with a bang. If I could request one thing, it’d be Goosebumps, as you’ve already covered Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and it would only be fair.

  • Daniel Young

    July 8, 2016 at 10:32 pm

Who said that monster madness has to be 31 reviews? I always liked the more in depth reviews you did of movies. I like it when a monster madness has a theme to it. I feel that 5 in depth reviews of good horror movies are just as good as touching on 31 movies briefly. I’ve been a fan of yours for years now and was amazed at the amount of reviews you put out every year. My point is, you do what you feel you need to do and you won’t disappoint me at all.

  • July 9, 2016 at 10:06 am

MM is the absolutely best Halloween tradition for me, if only for the last decade. Thanks so much for your time and work. Seriously, it’s truly so perfect for October and for instilling that child-like nostalgia Halloween always gives me. I will miss them. I loved them all and rewatch them often, and I look forward to this years MM. Thanks James!! Thanks Mike!

  • July 10, 2016 at 10:59 pm

Do whatever you need to do. I’m really thankfull for all your reviews, i’ve learned so much about classic (and not so classic as well) horror movies thanks to monster madness and it has become a part of my year. It will be missed… Hope you can release a dvd compilation of them all once this 10th and last one is completed, would love to have them.

  • July 15, 2016 at 6:55 am

If you could carry it on for the rest of the year and not just for October, like maybe do a whole mini-series of reviews dedicated to horror – then I would definitely say keep it, keep Monster Madness. Make it a year old thing.

  • July 15, 2016 at 6:55 am

Oops, I meant to say make it a year round thing.

  • Matt Casey

    July 16, 2016 at 6:41 am

That’s upsetting to hear, I’ve grown up with Monster Madness over the years. Literally, I’m 15 now and every year it was a tradition to tune in every night in october to watch a new episode. I would get so pumped everyday to come home from school and see what movie you’d review next. And once all 31 reviews were finished i got super excited to find out the next year’s theme. So, for me it’s upsetting to see it go

  • July 17, 2016 at 7:51 am

GO DO 6 REVIEWS OF SAW SEQUELS!!!!

  • Murdock129

    July 19, 2016 at 3:16 pm

    James

Would you consider it plagerism if someone else made 31 Horror Reviews in October in Future years as a tribute to Monster Madness? Specifically focusing on horror movies that haven’t been on MM (for example Nightbreed or the Hellraiser sequels)

Monster Madness is part of what really made me enjoy the idea of reviewing films, and I’ve always wanted to take a dig at it, especially with my rather off the wall tastes, and if you’re ok with it I might like to try that

    • Lukas Sprehn

      September 20, 2016 at 5:37 pm

I think he would be flattered. In fact someone did do something similar. Lewis Lovhaug aka Linkara from Channel Awesome began doing his horror comic review marathon “Longbox of the Damned,” and he even cited James and Monster Madness as a major inspiration for the series.

  • July 20, 2016 at 4:29 pm

It’ll take make ten years to catch up on all those movies so by all means, slow down ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for all the hilarity and VG and movie informity James.

  • July 24, 2016 at 4:40 pm

You’ve been so good to us over the years. Do whatever you need to stay fresh and to keep enjoying the process.

    • July 27, 2016 at 12:16 am

He doesn’t have a full time job. Think of that. Why can’t he do Monster Madness? Laziness. It’s killing me

      • Lukas Sprehn

        September 20, 2016 at 5:35 pm

Ehhh, no, he does have a full time job. Making Cinemassacre videos is a full time job.

  • July 27, 2016 at 12:11 am

They guy without a full time job can’t find the time to do his (arguably) most popular video series.

I have grown up responsibilities too and I would kill to get PAID to do a review series every October for Halloween.

Too much James? From what? The shitty playing video games content, that you mostly don’t even star in?

This is a motherfucker. you let me down.

    • Lukas Sprehn

      September 20, 2016 at 5:36 pm

It seems like you didn’t even get what he said. He wants to make a movie. A horror movie. How does that translate to “shitty video game content” ??

  • Samuel Carty

    July 29, 2016 at 8:47 pm

James, you are a credit to the fans. What you do is above and beyond!

  • July 30, 2016 at 3:30 pm

Now that Monster Madness is ending, I really want James to review the Daimajin Trilogy

  • July 30, 2016 at 3:33 pm

Without Monster Madness, I never would have become a huge movie buff. Thank you for this, James. You’re one of the most important people in the story which is my life.

  • August 6, 2016 at 10:10 pm

I think I started watching Monster Madness around 2009, and it’s definitely one of the things I look forward to most in October. That being said, 10 years is an incredible amount of time!

Thank you very much for introducing me to weird movies that I’ve never heard of and making me seem like I know more than I actually know when conversing with fans of the horror genre! Looking forward to the new stuff coming out!

  • August 9, 2016 at 7:06 am

    Shit!!
I have been watching MM and AVGN for several years and I think I have seen pretty much everything you have done.

I will miss MM soooooo much!!

Thanks for all your hard work James its appreciated more than you can know, even all the way down here in Melbourne Australia.

Now heres my MM requests or Horror reviews I would love to see you do on your new schedule….

    Kill list
    Green room
    Bone tomahawk
    Strange things (Tv show)

Also have you ever thought of farming out research and scripting duties?
You can edit (Your fave thing) and leave the grunt work to compadres.

I am sure the line that forms behind such a request would be long.

    regards

Monster Madness was something I would look forward to every year, I wasn’t there from the start but when I discovered your website I went back and watched the old ones, you introduced me to classic Universal monsters, silent films, the Hammer films all these horror films I found because of you, so thank you for that and know that I’ll always support whatever, I’ll miss the 31 reviews but I would also love a Mini-Monster Madness!

  • August 26, 2016 at 5:56 pm

Monster madness has introduced me to many great classic horror films

  • August 30, 2016 at 6:30 am

My recommendation for a future Monster Madness would be The Resurrected 1992 (aka: Shatterbrain). A lot of people don’t know about it, but it is horror-gold. Directed by Dan O’Bannon, and an adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft’s “The Case of Charles Dexter Ward”

  • September 9, 2016 at 10:50 pm

I must say thank you. Without Monster Madness I would not have been able to come to apreciate Halloween as I do now. All these years I have enjoyed the spirit of this wonderful season, I really love it! Monster Madness was an integral aspect of my celebration. It still will be. Thank you so much!

  • September 11, 2016 at 1:53 pm

A good idea would be an international horror classic movie marathon like Ginger Snaps in Canada or Ringu in Japan…that would be a great idea…it could be long but really worth it !

  • September 11, 2016 at 8:57 pm

Man, without a monster madness video every day in October; I just know the spirit of Halloween will be a tad off.

Get rid of Mike. That should be number 1 on your list of things to do. The guy has been dick riding for years. i never watch anything he is in. His lame ass just completely ruins things. He like a shitty King Midas.

  • September 21, 2016 at 9:59 am

    monster madness is so good

  • September 21, 2016 at 9:55 pm

Hi James. Have you ever thought about making a short horror movie for Halloween? Something along the lines of your Dream Phone or Mr Bucket video. It could become the new October tradition.

  • September 24, 2016 at 1:55 pm

    Please do mini monsters madnesses

Ps I love all the videos you make

  • October 4, 2016 at 8:55 am

Well I havent been with you since the biggining of angry Video Game Nerd, but I’m looking what changes and projects you plan in the near future.

  • October 6, 2016 at 5:43 pm

So far, great MM. I’d love to see you review Silver Bullet, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and Salem’s Lot (1979)…

  • Billy Billiamson

    October 6, 2016 at 9:20 pm

I think you can revisit The Blob from the 80’s. It is really pretty wild and I think you can do a better review. The Stuff too oh man that movie was wacky.

  • October 7, 2016 at 3:08 am

I’d like to hope that Monster Madness lives on in one form or another. I’ve looked forward to this every year sense 2009 and tbh the month of Oct is the only month I consistently scour this channel for content. I like James as a person from what little I know of him but Monster Madness is the reason I watch his videos and is my most anticipated past time of the year in terms of watching content online. If Monster Madness were to die out I’d loose a big part of what makes my favorite holiday so great.

  • grant2012

    October 25, 2016 at 2:10 am

I’ve fallen out of Monster Madness the last few years and it’s been such a pleasure catching up with actual years worth of videos. I’m excited to see what you do in October in the future, but sad to hear about the end of the marathons. I would have loved to see another sequel-thon covering Friday the 13th or Hell Raiser, but I digress. Thank you so much for educating me on so many great movies I would never have discovered by myself and never had the time or knowledge to fully appreciate. I truly believe this project is one of the most inspiring labors of love I’ve found on the internet, and I really hope some day I can put something like this out into the world.

  • October 29, 2016 at 3:46 pm

thank you so much for doing this for a tenth time. i grew up on your videos, i was only fifteen when AVGN started…. time really does fly.
anyway, thank you for your awesome videos, they’ve been an inspiration.
    best regard from germany
