Cool, it’s nice to get my movie news from here. Hadn’t even heard about this one yet. Although I just read on IMDb today that Godzilla 2 (sequel to 2014 film) and Godzilla vs. Kong had been confirmed for 2019 and 2020 dates, respectively. Not to mention Kong: Skull Island, which appears to be a prequel/reboot designed to lead into the “vs.” battle more than a sequel to the Peter Jackson epic.

There’s a service called Tugg that organizes and works with independent and foreign movie studios to distribute and set up screenings of movies in select cinemas around the world.
If they work with Toho it seems like the best way to distribute this new movie in cinema. Screenings only go ahead when they have a minimum seats requirement filled so they avoid doing too poorly mathematically in screenings. And I’m sure they’ll put out a Blu Ray version so time in the future.

Oh god the anticipated toho film, 12 years in the making. Oh god i cant wait- wtf? Its here already?… That doesnt seem right…
May 11, 2016 at 4:42 pm
I can’t wait! Even if it doesn’t end up hitting theatres, which would be a shame, I’ll pick up the dvd. Wonder why there’s no bluray though? I’d love to have some sort of Godzilla Bluray ultimate collection, remastered and loaded with bonus features. Doubt that’ll ever happen though.

Looks good Can’t wait till its out.
May 11, 2016 at 5:29 pm
Here ya go, James! “Straight to you from the original creators of Godzilla. Toho Pictures presents…Godzilla…Resurgence!”
June 29, 2016 at 11:25 pm
more like “straight from the creators of neon genesis evangelion”
May 11, 2016 at 6:11 pm
We. Need. This. Movie. I’ve never cared about Godzilla while they’ve been released so this is gonna be great!
May 11, 2016 at 6:14 pm
Godzilla vs King Kongs Remake sounds promising im tired of those super heroes film.
Dont get be mad, i like em but my problem i Why they made films with popular and well known super heroes like Spider man, Batman,Super COME ON! Why not make another The Shadow, why no body try made Mandrake the magician, there a lot classic superheroes but no one give a try now made films with that folks?
May 11, 2016 at 8:29 pm
I’m tired of superhero movies too. I liked Cap America: Civil War, but I’m getting superhero exhaustion. That’s all that’s set up for the next few years, superhero movie after superhero movie. And Star Wars.
Have you heard they’re rebooting the Universal Monsters series too? And making them actual horror movies rather than action movies. This, plus the Kong (why did they shorten it?) and Godzilla movies should make things a little more interesting, anyhow.
May 24, 2016 at 7:36 pm
Mandrake the Magician: Man, you really made my day!
May 11, 2016 at 6:52 pm
If they’d called the 90’s U.S. Godzilla film anything other than “Godzilla” I think people would’ve liked it more. The problem with the latest U.S. Godzilla film was that Godzilla was only in the movie for about 20 fucking minutes!
Marvel, and to a lesser extent D.C., have made the ultimate versus movies lately. I don’t care what people think I loved Batman vs Superman even if it almost made zero sense at all, it was just great to see them go at it. As for Captain America: Civil War, i’ll just leave it at “Wow”.
May 11, 2016 at 7:04 pm
you need to make a kieju channel nothing but mother fucking kieju destruction.
May 11, 2016 at 7:26 pm
I had to watch this thrice… and even went back to some parts because what’s going on here is REALLY interesting, and I’m glad you’re the one explaining it.
May 11, 2016 at 7:50 pm
I am a little concerned about New World distributing this one. Aren’t they the same company that rather butchered Godzilla Returns, and made it into Godzilla 1985?
May 13, 2016 at 9:48 am
That was New World Pictures. NOT New World Cinema.
Confused me too.
May 11, 2016 at 8:44 pm
Maybe in the new Godzilla movie there will be less dialogue and more action. A little brush up on the origin but mostly focus on the death and destruction. Just make a good action movie starring a big fire breathing lizard please, without making it more difficult than it has to be.
May 11, 2016 at 11:33 pm
The movie poster for Shin Gojira says “Japan vs Godzilla”, almost as if they’re stressing that this is a Japanese godzilla and not an American one. 😛
May 12, 2016 at 1:13 am
That was really interesting James. You got me in the mood to watch some Godzilla and those sequels coming out sound awesome. Can’t wait for your review of the Godzilla you were talking aboiut. I know it will be good. I can tell you have a passion for Godzilla. Your really rubbing off on me and making me want to see them. Thanks for the video James. Always good to hear from you man.
May 12, 2016 at 1:42 am
It was funny, I was just wondering today when the last Toho made Godzilla made film was(and if there would ever be another one) and then, BOOM! This video comes out. Perfect timing, James, you ready my mind! 🙂 Seriously, though, it is an eerie coincidence. I’m not necessarily a “creature feature” kind of guy, but if this comes out in theaters here, I’m SO watching it!
May 12, 2016 at 1:44 am
Oh, yeah, as for the timing of the release, I totally understand the concerns you have for this film. Hopefully, Toho will work out all of the kinks, and this will be a hit “overseas”!
May 12, 2016 at 2:11 am
It’s a total mess just like the Power Rangers sentai distribution.
May 12, 2016 at 7:20 am
But how do you get out of that Desk you are sitting at?
It looks like you’re trapped in there!
May 12, 2016 at 12:11 pm
Why doesn’t James watch Neon Genesis Evangelion? This new Godzilla is directed by the same guy who made Evangelion. Evangelion is a lot like Godzilla if you’re smoking CRACK. Seriously James watch Evangelion dude.
May 12, 2016 at 4:33 pm
What will probably happen, like for Japanese anime movies that never gets release in North America we’ll have to wait for the Japanese bluray, some fansub group will subbed it and make available online. I rather hear the original audio in Japanese anyway. I can’t stand foreign English dubbed movies.
May 12, 2016 at 4:40 pm
I only maybe saw the trailer thru facebook like maybe a few months ago or somethin like that & I honstly thought that it was made by some guy just to stir the pot. But according to this apparently the trailer I saw on facebook was the real thing. Then on top of that it’s coming out in only a few months in japan? Like goddamn they must’ve already been working on the film before we even knew what the hell was goin on, but who the fuck knows what the american release is gonna be like all I see is, it’ll just be a matter of patience to see what happens
May 12, 2016 at 4:44 pm
Great video!! I have a feeling that this film will be released as one of those “one night only” events like they’ve done recently with Dr. Who and RiffTrax. I would be fine with that, as long as it wasn’t restricted to just NYC and LA.
May 12, 2016 at 9:30 pm
Okay, I don’t know what new player this is, but there’s no option to change the quality, so it plays smoother.
May 13, 2016 at 2:50 am
Vs Destroyah was so sad.
May 13, 2016 at 2:52 am
It’d be cool the origanal musician would be back but Destroyah was his last soundtrack.
May 14, 2016 at 10:55 pm
They should at least give the film a limited release in the States. By the way, from one film geek to another, I would pay you money just so I could comb through your movie collection! 🙂
May 16, 2016 at 5:26 am
Interesting on the title, as its written in kataana rather than Kanji (Katakana is usually only used for foreign words, so this seems rather unusual)
As you said “shin” could mean “True” or “New” – and usually the kanji would tell you which it meant.
Also As a comment said, the japanese poster says “Japan’s godzilla” so I suspect it’s intended to mean “True Godzilla” – but the vague way of writing means it can also be taken as “New godzilla”… I think its been done on purpose so they can’t be accused of putting down the US release (by leaving it open to the reader how to read it)
May 17, 2016 at 3:28 pm
I just want to add that after watching this video, I went back and watched your Monster Madness Godzilllathon…. And I just gotta say that for someone like me who hasn’t got to see many of the original Godzilla movies that you did a great job with the Godzilllathon. I loved watching that and you gave a lot
Of great insight to the films. I learned a lot about Godzilla just from watching your Godzilllathon. And I have to say, I am now a Godzilla fan. Thanks James. That Godzillathon was fantastic.
May 17, 2016 at 5:39 pm
Yeah, I don’t see it getting a wide theatrical release here in the U.S. Just like all the other Godzilla films after Godzilla 2000 it will come to straight to DVD. I prefer it cause I like doing subtitles rather than dubbing anyways.
May 18, 2016 at 3:08 pm
Interesting side note, the film is directed by none other than Hideaki Anno, who also created Evangelion and directed and wrote a majority of the episodes of that series.
It’s interesting to see what he could bring to the Godzilla franchise too.
May 29, 2016 at 6:14 pm
here is a way they could make a lot of money on both movies. market it as a double feature
June 15, 2016 at 7:49 pm
What’s the role of Superman, Captain America, the X-Men and all the rest? lol Where’s Hercules?!
July 29, 2016 at 1:09 am
I watched this today in Japan.
I personally disliked directors, but this is amazing. Great movie.
You can expect it too much!
July 30, 2016 at 10:02 am
Apparently, from what I’ve picked up, the film is kinda a mixed bag–it gets REALLY weird, and unfortunately has a bit of a right-wing Japanese tract side to it. Also, Godzilla in this film is pure CG, there’s no real suit stuff from what I’ve seen of the BTS stuff. Though that James assumes it was a suit at least bodes well.
