Top 10 Boners! by Mike Matei

Mike Matei / April 25th, 2016

This is a list I could have saved for Halloween time, but Halloween in my favorite holiday, so I like to celebrate horror themes throughout the year. Skeletons are a common enemy found in countless games. I’m aware there many other skeletons that have appeared in games that aren’t going to make it on my list. These are just ones that just really resonated with me personally. Here’s my picks for the Top 10 BONERS! of all time (in video games)

Thank you for showing Shadowgate some love. It’s my favorite video game of all time.

I don’t blame you. Shadowgate is great. Thanks for watching!

the only way i beat shadowgate is to thrust sword in self and commit suicide. Sometimes suicide is the only chance for survival

      • April 28, 2016 at 7:35 am

You should really do a shadowgate nerd review. That would be awesome with all the stupid traps, deaths and fkn torches that run out.

If you ever do a video on Shadowgate, contact Zojoi. The guys who made Shadowgate own it, and I’m sure would totally be down to talk about it or give you some inside baseball about it. Great Video!

As a French guy, I can say revenant doesn’t mean anything like “the one who runs”. A revenant is someone who disappeared but came back, such as a demon dying and coming back as a skeleton.

    • April 26, 2016 at 3:17 pm

true, but more accurately it mean someone who came back, the word apply in a sentence like : un soldat revenant de la guerre.

  • April 26, 2016 at 3:14 pm

there a whole stage of boner in megaman 4 ;p

  • Skeletor

  • April 26, 2016 at 7:25 pm

What’s this? No Grave Lord Nito?

  • April 26, 2016 at 8:59 pm

No Sans or Papyrus from Undertale? Sans was impossible to beat in the genocide route, they were both great characters! Loved the list, great job!

  • April 26, 2016 at 10:04 pm

The Skeletons in oblivion aren’t overly scary, but they really creeped me out when the game was new.

  • Tomohiro Tanaka

My #1 would be Sir Daniel Fortesque from the Medievil games on PS1. Those were great games and the main character is awesome.

Shadowgate…that game was so frustrating. I’m glad the skeleton from Wizards and Warriors didn’t make it…tough to beat, but sooooo silly lookin’.

    Jeckel drops ball, Shangri-La dies, Jeckel drops ball Shangri-La dies. 1. 2. 1. 2.

  • April 27, 2016 at 8:24 am

Typo in a mike post makes my boner rage “but Halloween in my favorite holiday”

  • April 27, 2016 at 9:56 am

Don’t know how I missed “Double Dragon: Neon”, never heard one freaking word about it, until today, thank you Mike! Still one of my favorite beat’em up franchises. 😛

Just bought it on Steam, also picked up the OST for the heck of it, since the music in Double Dragon games are usually quite memorable, esp the main theme. 🙂

    Also, good video. ^_^

    Thank, Mr Skeltal

  • April 27, 2016 at 6:23 pm

Top ten and no Sans, even if he’s on the picture? He’s an awesome character!

Also, revenant meant “He who comes back”, not “He who runs”. Basically a revenant means someone back from the grave.

    • April 27, 2016 at 6:32 pm

And if you want scary, try a genocide run in Undertale and tell me again how you find Sans. It’s a chilling battle.

  • Pablo1989

    April 27, 2016 at 6:47 pm

Maybe he is not skelly but looks like one and he is my favorite
Abyss from Soul Calibur 3…Heck 😀 he even wield Sytche like Grim Reaper.

I had Shadowgate while my friend had that other game. I have borrowed that other game and still liked Shadowgate better cause of the horror theme.

Castlevania 64 had some cool points, but yeah camera angles, no music and bland terrain in areas screwed it up. A game that needed more development. It also had the annoying feature of providing one with an easy mode, an easy mode you could not win the game on!

  • August 25, 2016 at 1:18 pm

Mike, as a Halloween person you should definitely chek Medievil on Playstation (one) from past 1998. It has this skeleton character fellow Sir Daniel Fortesque who fights against the evil Zarok and his army of dead in the land of Gallowmere. I know it doesn’t sound mindblowing but it has a lot of dark humor, wery Tim Burton style graphics, tons of weapons, good story and one of the best score in the history of games. Killer scarecrows, mindless zombies, violent villagers and wackos are waiting for you, yarr!
