As simplistic as it is, it looks challenging. Keep those videos coming.

i believe the Universal lawsuit has nothing to do with it because I believe that when Universal sued it came out that they actually didn’t even own King Kong and it was actually public Domain, so Universal screwed themselves. I think thats what happened.
March 17, 2016 at 8:41 pm
You’re right. Nintendo won that suit. There’s some other rights issue that prevents the original Donkey Kong arcade version from being released though.

It was a lot more complicated than that, but you’re essentially right. Universal had taken RKO pictures to court in 1975 and successfully argued that King Kong was public domain since it was over 40 years old. They basically shot themselves in the foot. If you like more behind the scenes game history, read the Ultimate History of Video Games by Steven Kent. It’s one of my Game Design text books.

Hey, Mike- If all else fails, you could get the Game & Watch version of DK. It’s about as close as you’re going to get to the original, unfortunately. But it is a pretty good version of the game, if you manage to get your hands on it.
As for the lawsuit, as a couple of other people have pointed out, the Universal lawsuit had nothing to do with it. Nintendo won. Interesting factoid- Universal tried to argue that Nintendo violated their copyright, only to be undone when it was discovered that Universal argued in another case(successfully) that King Kong was public domain. Oh, snap!
March 18, 2016 at 12:48 pm
Just to be clear, Universal was arguing that King Kong was copyrighted, and therefore Nintendo was infringing upon it.

Actually, Donkey Kong JR. is NOT Donkey Kong 2. I’ve played to arcade version of Donkey Kong 2. And holy shit is it hard! Think there is video on youtube.

The Commodore 64 version of Donkey Kong has all 4 levels from the arcade version!

Fuckin burgers is definitely my new catch phrase

Is Bootsy actually from the Burgh, or is he just a Philly antagonist? (Either one is admirable)

Finally watched the AVGN movie after work last night. Got it on Steam, and I gotta say quite a few scenes that had me a laughing like an idiot. Some really funny lines in there too. I didn’t expect it to be a running parody of movie cliches, but once I figured out what was going you guys still surprised with the escalating level of ridiculousness.
Don’t mind the 50 some negative Steam reviews, those guys prolly hated Kung Fury too.

What the… Is AVGN dead???
March 19, 2016 at 4:57 pm
Most Likely 🙁
I tried my own video game related show on YouTube but without help of viewers…its pain in the arse.

He’s working on a new episode right now. He posted this on YouTube (exclusively, I presume): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEk8a70DDz8

In order to get farther in the game, you need to conserve the powerups, since they only reappear after you die.

Donkey Kong rocks

Love your video as always, but a bit of advice about body language. Don’t cross your arms so much, it really makes you look closed off.

The things Donkey Kong throws are bee hives, and the insects are bees.
