http://jansenprice.com/metroid/met2/met2_map_tj.jpg a little late but here is a little more coherent map using the Nintendo Power art. None the less I am looking for that issue of Nintendo Power Metroid 2 is one of my favorite gameboy games…June 1992 volume 37 for anyone wondering!

Mike, you need to get an RGB cable for your SNES and hook it into the Framemeister. Retro_Console_Accessories on ebay is my go-to person for RGB cables. The Framemeister comes with a JP-21 adapter, so if you hung onto it, you can get the JP-21 RGB cable for your SNES and hook it straight into that. Then download my custom 1080p profiles for the Framemeister on my Pixel Purist page. You will need a microSD card to update the firmware of your Framemeister, as well as use my profiles.

Yep. You NEED to go to this guys website. Like seriously you’ll die if you don’t.

You guys have more patience than me. I’d have launched the cart into a wall by now.

  • February 29, 2016 at 8:05 am

Why does James keep referring to Samus as a male?

    • ToadRoad

      March 1, 2016 at 1:21 am

I always call dogs “he” and cats “she” without realizing it, even when I know the sex is otherwise. Probably just habit since almost every NES character (and most games they play) are male.

  • February 29, 2016 at 9:37 am

Mike looks a little like that prick from Aliens. The Paul Reiser character.

  • February 29, 2016 at 10:48 am

You guys made me play though this whole game again last week. I beat it on gameboy in my teen years, but forgot about must it. I ended up getting 200 mis without a guide not sure if there was more. I don’t think if I noticed if you guys did any spring jumps knowing you can change to spider ball in mid air by doing the spring jump in ball and pushing down one more time allowing you to latch on to the walls and bypass some longer routes. Either way nothing to worry about now, beating the queen is worth it all.

  • February 29, 2016 at 12:25 pm

You know you can beat the queen with the original compliment of 30 missles? The secret is rolling into a ball, letting her swallow you and laying bombs in her stomach. You can’t straight up kill her like this. But do it 2-3 times and fire a couple missles, BOOM! DONE!

    • February 29, 2016 at 12:59 pm

As a kid I never knew about that trick and never was able to beat it lol

    • Don Skiver

      February 29, 2016 at 10:24 pm

Yeah, I’ve seen speed runs of people beating the queen that way. Bombing her stomach does crazy damage. Sure, it hurts you too, but the fight is so much shorter.

    February 29, 2016 at 12:35 pm

James has the patience of a saint. Well done!

  • February 29, 2016 at 1:03 pm

Seriously, the spiderball is as good as it can be. Otherwise, it’s the same problem James referred to in that friday 13th game with the map system.

    • February 29, 2016 at 1:08 pm

      Argh, so frustrating! You can jump and stick with the spiderball or just spacejump up! xD;

    February 29, 2016 at 1:27 pm

I’ve got to get this so I can put myself through the same HELL that you guys put yourselves through. That was awesome.

  • Tanooki suit mario

    February 29, 2016 at 1:43 pm

I’d like to see you guys do one of the metroid prime games. Like a 2 part episode. 1 with a general review and one with just the boss battles. I think in the future for long games that’s a good way to do it.

  • February 29, 2016 at 1:44 pm

You can roll into the queen’s mouth and bomb the stomach. She has to lock her jaw open near the floor and then roll in. It makes the battle so much easier.

  • February 29, 2016 at 1:46 pm

That must NOT have been easy. I haven’t played it and even I can tell the kind’ve stress you two must’ve been going through. I’d have been cussing like a sailor if I were in your situation. Good phenominal job you two. I also agree. A save point should be present RIGHT before the end boss and all the optional bosses. This way you don’t lose time AND a way to regain your health there as well.

There are a ton of Git Good t-shirts, and a bunch of them are relating to video games:

The t-shirts have “Git Gud”… (not Git Good).

    February 29, 2016 at 6:40 pm

As James said, nostalgia goggles seem to help with this game. 😉 Still, for an original GB title, it looks like a good effort. Also, one nitpick–as it’s a queen, James, it’d be a ‘she’.

  • S1eeper

    February 29, 2016 at 7:47 pm

James’ eyes at 27 min. hilarious lol

  • Rackvin Solmni

    February 29, 2016 at 8:32 pm

You can ball jump or bomb bounce, and with good timing become spider ball and cling to the ceiling or wall. Basically faster way than spiderballing the long way around. Could have helped at a couple points.

  • February 29, 2016 at 9:10 pm

    Good job guys xD

Never played that game seems like Samus is too big for the screen… that turned me off.

If you liked or hated some part of Metroid 2 you should take a look at the fan PC remake its really awesome (and free)

My comments still don’t show up.. this bug existed like 2-3 years ago and it STILL exists. I don’t get it.

    • Lanlost

      March 1, 2016 at 3:12 am

Oh, of course that one did. Okay, below this one should be another comment.

      • Lanlost

        March 1, 2016 at 3:17 am

DAMNIT! The comment still won’t post. It’s not the youtube link. It’s not the 12:41 at the beginning. There IS a bug here. Same thing as 2-3 years ago. (I mentioned I could fix it then, for free. I code, professionally). If I try to post the comment verbatim, or as a reply to someone else it doesn’t work either. In the former’s case it says it’s already posted.

HERE is the text so you can try it yourself (and because I legitimately wanted to know the answer too…):

James/Mike. It’s worth noting that it SAYS “Thanks for your comment”, and, like I said, if you try to post the comment again it will say it was already submitted. It just never shows up.

I’ve tried splitting it on the Sky Kid thread (you can delete these comments, sorry), and individual sentences of it and stuff work so I don’t get what the issue is. If you can give me an empty thread that only I know the link to or something I can do my best to figure it out.

If you use a certain word that starts with F, and rhymes with burst, the comment will not show up.

      • ToadRoad

        March 1, 2016 at 9:17 pm

I’m guess a word the starts with S and rhymes with “Beckoned” is the reason your comment didn’t show, based on your pastebin link.

      • March 5, 2016 at 3:09 am

No, the comment system on here is pretty bad actually. I posted this very post 2 times.

    March 1, 2016 at 3:47 am

Serious comment (not a ‘git gud’). Is there a difficulty setting or something because when I was a kid I couldn’t beat Mega Man 1, 2, or 3 but always thought this boss was a joke. Is there a reason you aren’t rolling into a ball, into the Queen’s mouth, and bombing her stomach? On top of that, you just unload an insane number of missiles, not just when she’s stunned. It’s just weird because I’ve always thought of this as one of the easier bosses in gaming history but maybe it’s because I had another health tank that you seem to be missing.

  • March 1, 2016 at 4:10 am

    Play some Turok next, because:
The original design for Metroid Prime games, where done by the same team (iguana) who did Turok games on the N64, which then became retro studios, and much of the platforming design present in DKCR series came from Aero acrobat for SNES.

    • March 1, 2016 at 2:01 pm

Seriously? Damn, didn’t know that. Primes are way too long though, Turok is still silly fun. I mean, an amerindian fighting off dinosaurs, blacks ops, aliens and an evil parallel dimention travelling mutant warlord, is pretty funny.

While I found this game easier to play than the original Metroid, I gave up at the last boss. Never could figure out how to defeat it. Kudos to Mike and James for defeating the last boss, I tip my gamer hat to you!

  • March 2, 2016 at 1:10 pm

Not sure why you had trouble with the spiderball or the Metroid Queen. Should have tried escaping in the hole under her. Would love to hear your thoughts on the Metroid Prime games and Other M.

  • March 3, 2016 at 8:04 am

These videos are kinda cool and all, but AVGN is why I am here. That being said, cut the bull shit and make more AVGN episodes.

Hey James and Mike, always loved Metroid 2 and we enjoyed watching your run of it! I haven’t sifted through enough of the comments to see if anyone’s mentioned this yet, but there is a great fan-made remake of this in the works called AM2R. It seems to be coming along nicely, so maybe when you reach that ‘year from now point’ with the thumbs up to Metroid 2, you’ll feel like checking it out! Hopefully by then it’ll be complete. See ya next week!

  • March 7, 2016 at 3:33 pm

It’s been awhile since I played this game (1995?) but I remember that ther has been some kind of lazy trick with the Metroid Queen. I’m not 100 % sure but I guess you just had to stay on the same spot for the wohle fight. Then she reaches out for you – keep shooting the shit out of her. This way everything around you attacks you but you’ll never die before her.

  • March 12, 2016 at 9:57 am

awesome video, you guys should definitely try metroid fusion next, I think I saw in one of your videos that neither have played it?

  • March 22, 2016 at 3:45 am

I owned this as a kid. Along with the tell all, full map issue of Nintendo Power.

I will say one thing, this game was 5 stars out of 4. It was 2 thumbs up, and an additional Cthulu tentacle.

It was so far ahead of it’s time!

It was truly one of the biggest influences in my childhood.

It is why at Christmas I shoot missiles at my grandmother’s door to open it.

It is why I replaced the showerhead in my bathroom with a bunch of LED lights and sleep in there to “refill my life meter”.
