Mike Matei / February 8th, 2016
This week, we play an arcade classic called Sky Kid! Originally developed by Namco and brought to the NES by Sunsoft! Interesting note, the game ran on Pac-Land hardware (the first video game Mike ever played!)

Can’t wait to see some Super Metroid.
That game looks fun.
February 8, 2016 at 1:30 am
Awesome, I didn’t know this game was 2-player
February 8, 2016 at 2:16 am
Dude James do more AVGN Episodes it been about 2 months!!!!!!!!!!
February 8, 2016 at 5:58 pm
I’d rather have them come up with a new series, now that BJ unofficially ended.
February 10, 2016 at 3:43 am
They’d said many times before that they’ve slowed down and will probably only put out 2-3 episodes a year now. I fear it’s their way of saying it might end soon, or at least not be as frequent, which it isn’t. It’s a shame but I see why they’d do it after soo many episodes and so many games played.
February 11, 2016 at 8:15 pm
He probably is over it but doesn’t have the luxury to just end it. Maybe he is sick of the AVGN cash cow, but it would hurt his brand to put it out to pasture. So he feeds it once every couple of months so it doesn’t die. That way he has enough income to feed the J&MM Piglets, the Monster Madness Chickens and all the other Cinemassacre Pet Projects without getting rid of the lucrative cow.

Quality over quantity please

Not only did Sunsoft make pretty solid games (albeit maybe not quite as many classics as Konami or Capcom) but they had some of the best soundtracks of the day. Naoki Kodaka, among others, fuckin’ rocked that 8-Bit soundtable!
February 8, 2016 at 12:51 pm
Amen to that
February 8, 2016 at 3:56 am
A bit of trivia; player 2 is known as “Max” and is colored blue in reference to the “Blue Max” military medal of the old Prussian State and German Empire 😉
February 8, 2016 at 5:48 pm
I got the Blue Max reference, too, but I didn’t know it was a medal. We had a game on the Commodore 64 called Blue Max, so I thought it was just referencing the game. But that’s cool to know!
February 9, 2016 at 12:37 am
The Blue Max was Prussia’s highest military order. Baron von Richthofen was a bad ass.
February 8, 2016 at 10:35 am
Never played Sky Kid before, but the theme is still super nostalgic for me since it was used in the Famista series (https://youtu.be/u8vvMTkXlAw?t=51) which I played all day

I like how spontaneous this video is… just how many beers did mike drunk for this one?
February 8, 2016 at 1:23 pm
More like how much Colombian marching powder did he snort.
February 8, 2016 at 12:02 pm
Hey guys, this episod was fucking awesome and a fuckload of fun to watch ! Keep it up ! The Shatner reference was hiliarious and yes, Snoopy should have been in the game somewhere, maybe as and endboss.
The girls are a mystery ? Have there ever been something like cheerleaders in warzones? Pchaa, these videogames nowadays, all about sex and violence 😉
Guys, you rock. And I Hope you do a full movie or J&H TG. The trailer rocked.
February 8, 2016 at 2:22 pm
I would rent the Gremlins 2 game from the local video store, so it was like a similar experience.
February 8, 2016 at 5:54 pm
Okay, Mike was deffo a little drunk or otherwise in an altered state. Hey I’m not complaining, this was one of the funniest eps. His spontaneous suggestion that they should go out and see Andrew Dice Clay slayed me. Lol
February 8, 2016 at 6:39 pm
You made me remember Loopin Louie, and damn I wanted that dumb game as a kid! I was big into Tale Spin back then and it just would have made my day.
Hey in the opener for the Mike & James Mondays you have a Gameboy Beavis & Butthead. Ive never seen that ever, could you highlight it some?
Also, now that I said it, Tale Spin NES? Maybe Yo! Noid? Yo! Noid was hell on earth, I don’t think either of you two could finish it. Not a challenge, just a statement of truth. I think I lost years off my lifespan dealing with that game. But when your options are a glitched Mario 2, Tetris and Yo! Noid, you play a lot of Yo! Noid. My closest rental store was 30 minutes away!
February 8, 2016 at 9:25 pm
I’m going loopy for Loopin’ Louie.
February 8, 2016 at 9:27 pm
Love J&MM. Love Sky Kid. REALLY hate the commentary on this video…
February 9, 2016 at 3:08 am
You guys looked like you had a lot of fun with this one, and it was fun to watch too. I think you make better videos when the games are older and easier to understand- you’re in your element. The new ones mostly seem to have you making really obvious mistakes because you didn’t read the manual or just because you’re more used to simpler control schemes, and your frustration shows- and not in an entertaining AVGN way. Watching you actually enjoy yourselves is a lot better, hopefully for you as well.
February 9, 2016 at 6:00 am
😀 Try Warpman its funny game
February 10, 2016 at 1:07 am
I will never stop watching this website. I love these guys so much.
February 10, 2016 at 8:58 am
why does mike keep yelling “LOOPIN LOUIE” instead of “DO A BARREL ROLL”
February 10, 2016 at 6:05 pm
Good ep, loved the American Movie reference.
February 10, 2016 at 9:43 pm
Just want to point out that James did a brief AVGN review of this game a couple years back. [LINKY]
February 11, 2016 at 3:41 am
J&M mondays is defnitely good but as a lurker who has watched nearly everything (really) that you have ever made and has never posted or said anything to or about Cinemssacre to you or anyone else… James…. you need to get back to what made you. The last 15 AVGN episodes have been very lackluster and you need to take a hard look at the differences between when you made awesome things like the Ninja Gaiden episode and now. I miss the meta. I miss the extras. I miss the fun characters and acting. You turned into a YouTube personality and I miss the old stuff. Please take a break to relax from the movie (you are still burned out) and do the old stuff again after that! I miss it. I love you guys.
February 11, 2016 at 6:05 pm
oh BTW! James
What you think about Goosebumps movie?
I dont seen any your and Mike rant about this movie.
February 12, 2016 at 10:35 pm
I’m kind of sad you guys didn’t do a review of Deadpool today. I just saw it and liked it a lot and was wondering what your thoughts on it were.
February 16, 2016 at 9:25 pm
how do I watch the video. I do not want to go to youtube.
February 28, 2016 at 10:52 am
I don’t think I ever laughed so hard. Thanks for this episode, guys!

Hell, you could even screw attack up from that area and quickly attach to the wall.

@12:41: I don\’t get what I\’m missing here. Why do you have to go all around when you can FLY? Plus, you kill the enemies when you fly.
March 1, 2016 at 3:21 am
There isn’t a way to delete these comments… yet there is a bug so I’m trying to figure out. You can delete all my comments from this thread. Sorry but this posting bug has existed for YEARS now so I’m trying to figure out exactly what it is.

@12:41: I don\’t get what I\’m missing here. Why do you have to go all around when you can FLY? Plus, you kill the enemies when you fly. Even if you COULDN\’T fly though, you could wipe out that electric plant stuff and bomb jump up to the side of the wall and when you start to fall quickly hit

“Can you not post with quotes?”
March 1, 2016 at 3:27 am
I give up… Every section of it sometimes works and sometimes fails.
March 11, 2016 at 7:52 pm
Mike seems baked as fuck in this video
March 13, 2016 at 6:11 am
You guys should play Mr. Gimmick, also by sunsoft. The game was only released here in scandinavia and is one of the more rare titles on the NES. And also one of the absolute best!
May 9, 2016 at 11:42 pm
So how stoned were James and Mike for this lol
