I love this game simply for the fact that you can take off your skate and try to stab someone. Like Happy Gilmore. I hate hockey, but this is awesome!

Goalies can leave the net in icehockey…

Its just not generally a very good idea. Life is hard for a goalie in the playingfield.

      • December 10, 2015 at 9:04 pm

Sure they do. If you need extra offense, you can pull the goalie. Doug obviously doesn’t watch hockey, either

Yes, but they do leave the net a few times per game. Mostly to receive the puck when it is cleared by the other time during a power play. Plus when James was talking about it, it was when the puck was like 2 feet from the goalie with no one really around him. In a real game the goalie would go for it to ice the puck.

      • December 11, 2015 at 6:16 pm

Goalies leave the net all the time. There have been times when goalies have skated across the rink to fight each other. Look up Ron Hextal fighting on Youtube.

What’s up with James & Doug? Is this a thing now?
Are you keeping monday’s for Mike?
Ik like it, so I don’t mind.
    Just wondering.

They’ve worn the same clothes in the last 4 or 5 of these, suggesting they were filmed in bulk (this sort of holds true for J&MM too, though). I’d say this is probably a thing, but it would seem to be a very, very occasional one.

Would’ve been funny if that ad also say “Buy the Laser Scope!”

A precedent has been set. James and Doug must now play ‘Major League Baseball’ on NES. Horrible game, but it’s got some hilarious glitches. My brother and I used to play it all the time. That’d make a great episode.

  • December 10, 2015 at 6:49 pm

You should totally play Nekketsu Football, it’s even crazier and more fun than this. And then maybe Mario Strikers on GC/Wii.

  • December 10, 2015 at 6:54 pm

Oh i remembered this awesome game 🙂

Couldn’t imagine taking a long road trip with him. I bet his guardians were alcoholics.

Doug again? Please tell me you filmed 10 of these all in the same day and are slowly releasing them. He is so loud, annoying, and unfunny. Please do not make more videos with him.

Doug, Face Off sucks. Deal with it, loser.

    • December 10, 2015 at 10:29 pm

He really is terrible. People were saying that his Nostalgia Critic stuff was good so I checked it out and sure enough, it’s equally unfunny.

I’ve never been a big fan of this “YouTube” generation…with the exception of James Rolfe. I think it’s because he’s actually got a real filmmaker’s eye, and we share the same opinions on lots of things. And he’s funny.
That being said, I get the appeal of Nostalgia Critic, but it’s not for me.

Nobody is forcing you to watch every video they release.

      • December 11, 2015 at 3:55 am

I didn’t watch this one. I’m just here for the comments.

Even if you do not play sports, sports video games can be a lot of fun… James and Mike dismiss sports video games too easily. I always liked playing Blades of Steel, Double Dribble, Tecmo Super Bowl, and RBI Baseball.

The digital voices on old, computers and video games are so weird compared to what the technology has evolved into. But, the digital robot voices in the arcade game Berzerk is really what made it stand out.

  • December 10, 2015 at 8:53 pm

    I’ll be yella

  • December 10, 2015 at 8:59 pm

Play RBI Baseball! Best sports game for Nintendo.

I like James and Doug individually, and when they are scripted together it works too. The spark just isn’t there when they play video-games together.

They can be friends and not have improv chemistry, so I think a lot of the criticism is rather mean-spirited.

Its not easy to make a ‘let’s play’ commentary interesting, and it took awhile for James and Mike Mondays to hit its stride. I don’t look forward to these Doug gaming videos, but people need to relax a little. So you don’t like some videos? Go on with your day.

In-game “commercials” for other games is a brilliant idea, actually. Especially when you’re bored with the game you’re playing.

Great choice! I LOVED this game as a kid. Absolutely loved it! I loved the fast paced action, the fights,(yes, the fights)! And even that little shooter game that Doug was playing. Always loved that one. Didn’t care for the other mid-period video they had, which I think was a polar bear, or something.

Anyway, I liked it a lot better than Ice Hockey. The controls were easier, it was easier to get into fights(it seemed like you had to practically pull the other guy’s leg off to start a scrap. Though I must admit, it was funny to see all the players rushing over to join in)!

Over all, it was a fun experience. BTW, that “whistling” sound the fans make, was also the crowd sound effect used in Track and Field II. Speaking of which… that one would make a great vid! The controls for some the events were awful!

      December 11, 2015 at 1:42 pm

BTW… the goalie can leave the net, but it’s not wise for him to do so, seeing as it leaves his his net exposed. There’s really only two ways a goalie leaves his net: 1) to retrieve the puck for his teammates 2) So that his team can bring on an extra attacker. You almost never see 1) happen these days, because they created a trapezoid behind the net. The goalie isn’t allowed to touch the puck anywhere else outside of it.

Meaning, the net, and the area behind it. I’ll stop now. 🙂

I am also not a sports fan but when I was younger I was into sports and played sports in school. Back then I liked sports games as it was fun to play and a fun two player game. It wasn’t so detailed and you don’t need to know much to play it. Now sports games are so much detail and depth that it can get boring to those not really into the sport. I used to like the football games like Tecmo Bowl, 10 Yard Fight and Super Play Action Football. I like for baseball games Baseball Stars, Bases Loaded, Little League Baseball, Nolan Ryan’s Baseball and Ken Griffey Major League Baseball. Best times playing those game.

If you guys want a game that is almost the farthest from a “typical” footbal game, then go with Pigskin 621 A.d. Football meets caveman games in the medieval times – good times.
