    Chronologically confusing sequels, perhaps?

And the character Angela is a total hottie. Would totally bang.

    • Don Skiver

      October 3, 2015 at 3:21 am

Maybe I should have said Felissa Rose, the chick who played Angela, instead…

        Yeah, you should xD

You do realize that she was around 13 at the time this movie was made right?

      • Don Skiver

        October 3, 2015 at 4:47 pm

And I was only a year old when this movie was made…what’s your point? It was over 30 years ago.

      • chris jackso

        October 3, 2015 at 11:55 pm

your right, this guy says “whats your point” uh…the point is she is 14 here and you say you would bang her. if she was 5 would it be okay for you to bang her cause shes older now? what about the olsen twins on full house? okay to bang them? didnt think so. i dont think your a bad person, but it is not okay in this society to think 14 year olds are bangworthy. even though 16 is bad too and i wont lie, they can be pretty good looking.

He probably didn’t asI wouldn’t have guessed either. Then again, she is hella cute despite being underage.

    October 3, 2015 at 3:47 am

Agreed. Way too much hype for this movie by its “cult fans” just bcuz it never got over huge like Friday the 13th or nightmare on elm street. I love cheesy camp cult movies as well but putting too much hype on the movies just because they’re not as well known can definitely ruin the movie all together.

      October 3, 2015 at 11:55 am

      No, I’m sorry.

James touched on it a bit but it can not be overstated enough. The ending is so damn disturbing I didn’t sleep for a week as a kid seeing this in the 80’s.

      So. Freaking. Disturbing.

Nice one, always liked the early 80th slasher movies,
don’t know why, but they have a unique charm.
And this one in particular is worth watching.

    Lovin’ it!

  • October 3, 2015 at 6:10 am

    this one its good.

  • October 3, 2015 at 6:19 am

Won’t spoil the ending… sorry the internet already did that James and quite frankly the hype I was feeling for this film was actually listening to your reaction to the twist….

Disappointing review to say the least.

    • October 3, 2015 at 10:02 am

This film was shoved in my face for years on Horror Groups and forums and I had no idea about the ending.

YouTubed the ending. Was not disappointed. 10/10 would open mouth again.

I just watched Sleepaway Camp 1-3 and Angela is my new favorite villain-hero.

I always wondered if he would cover this movie. I agree with him about the ending. It still creeps me out. I actually bought it on Blu-Ray. The footage he was showing looked the VHS version.

after seeing the cinema snob review where he spoils the ending I’d say that’s the reason this movie has a following.

      “THAT’S A DICK!”

  • Cilliandrew

    October 3, 2015 at 9:48 am

You are so right James. What you described here was exactly what friday night horror movie-a-thons from the video store were all about way back in high school. My friends and i would go to the video store, pick out 4 horror movies that we had never watched, and just stay up into the wee hours of saturday laughing our tales off. You always got some genuine surprises when you went that way. Good times.

  • MonkeeJuice

    October 3, 2015 at 10:34 am

This movie is pretty bland is my opinion. I prefer 2 and 3.

  • October 3, 2015 at 10:59 am

this came out the year i was born.. great review .. love monster madness.. i have seen all of them! thank you for all you do for your fans! i know these things take a long time to finish… can’t wait for another avgn video!

The “twist” ending really disturbed me as a kid but this movie doesn’t hold up quite as well as some of the eighties slasher movies.

  • October 3, 2015 at 12:02 pm

The ending makes the movie…a waste of time. What a dumb, transphobic, ending. The movie is ridiculously stupid.

    • October 4, 2015 at 1:11 pm

      I agree.

    • October 4, 2015 at 10:33 pm

The killer was *forced* to identify as something they weren’t. That’s the direct opposite of transgenderism.

  • roorman

    October 3, 2015 at 12:03 pm

Spoiler Alert the killer is Bruce Jenner

  • October 3, 2015 at 12:27 pm

    Great choice!

  • Toon

    October 3, 2015 at 1:27 pm

The movie clips looks distorted. The aspect ratio should be 16:9 instead of 4:3.

But nice to see a “real” MM episode instead of a talking video.

  • Wayne

    October 3, 2015 at 1:40 pm

The movie’s original title was “Bruce Jenner: The Early Years”.

  • SpeedyEric

    October 3, 2015 at 2:00 pm

    “THAT’S A DICK!”

  • fcabanski

    October 3, 2015 at 2:54 pm

He said “sequels” decades later, but showed only one sequel title from decades later. Were there other sequels made by the director?

  • Smeghead420

    October 3, 2015 at 3:15 pm

It was painful to sit through this movie. The bad acting, horrible setups. But yeah… the ending is disturbing and does make the film. The build up of sitting though it and wondering about the who-done-it atmosphere makes for a good payoff at the end. Nice job James.

  • October 3, 2015 at 3:16 pm

Good review! I watched the movie right afterwards – holy shit, the ending is hellacious!
This makes it even better than Friday the 13th, imo. O_O

James and Mike, keep the scripted vids coming!!! They are so much better when James’s thoughts are collected.

Haha, the pervert man. Not even subtle about things. Makes me wish I went to camp as a kid, well not that rape cook part, but Felissa Rose and her rival camp girl. They’re hot

  • pinkyandthesheep

    October 3, 2015 at 8:38 pm

    Sleepaway Camp was great:)

    “Eat shit and live!”

    and the ending!!!

    October 4, 2015 at 1:27 am

I used to believe that good expectations could ruin a movie, but then I realized that expectations never made a good movie seem bad to me or vice versa, if there was any difference then it was minor.

  • October 4, 2015 at 1:39 am

Perfect review, my feelings exactly on the film and the ending. I saw it on a whim because I remember the seeing video tape box at the video store and gave it a watch

  • Xone0601

    October 4, 2015 at 2:32 am

Hey, Nerd! Kind of off topic here, but maybe if you were to put up old videos on the home page, short time 2 year fans like me could see older videos more occasionally instead of browsing the menus. Not sure if you’ve done this in the past, but food for thought i suppose. Happy Halloween SPECIAL to be….hopefully 😛 lol – You guys rock!

  • Ben_from_G-town

    October 4, 2015 at 10:17 am

Watch it casually, with the least amount of hype possible. I’ll give it a thought. 😀

  • Jon

    October 4, 2015 at 10:37 am

does anyone else have problems with the video being glitchy?

  • October 4, 2015 at 12:17 pm

I didn’t think it was THAT disturbing lol.. Idk why people are so disturbed by nudity. Weird puritan thing

    • October 4, 2015 at 10:35 pm

It’s just the… everything about the scene, it comes out of nowhere.

    • May 18, 2016 at 3:32 am

The nudity wasn’t the disturbing part. The freakout is that a certain character was forced to be like that, not by birth or choice, but by someone else’s choice, coupled with the tramatizing death at the beginning, the ending is a release of all that suffering. (Tried not to spoil anything)

  • October 4, 2015 at 2:47 pm

Part 2 is a masterpiece. My favorite slasher form the 80’s.

  • October 5, 2015 at 12:00 am

Wait – didn’t you review this one before? Or at least talk about it?

  • October 5, 2015 at 12:09 am

I won’t spoil the reveal but Bailey Jay wants to do a porn version of this movie series.

  • gluserty

    October 5, 2015 at 3:29 am

    Aw yeah, here’s a classic.

  • VV

    October 5, 2015 at 10:39 am

YEHAW! This is it … this is MONSTER MADNESS. =)

  • Kuuenbu

    October 5, 2015 at 2:20 pm

Isn’t anyone else here bothered greatly by the fact that they didn’t bother to fix the aspect ratio of the video before uploading it? It really gives the impression that James doesn’t care about Monster Madness as much as he claims to.

  • Newcastle

    October 5, 2015 at 3:02 pm

Awesome work as usual James. Really look forward to all the videos this month. If Halloween wasn’t my favorite holiday/month of the year it is now.

  • low_tone1

    October 5, 2015 at 4:36 pm

This is one of the best “run of the mill” slasher films of the time. I completely agree that the ending makes the move, and it has yet to be imitated.

  • October 6, 2015 at 10:38 pm

I got somethin you’re gonna like real good.

  • Stephanie Cutrere

    October 7, 2015 at 2:05 am

I’ll just say that the ending is one of the most talked about moments in 80s horror films. What happened? I’m not telling you, just watch the film… let’s just say it’s something least expected.

  • Ashley

    October 7, 2015 at 6:50 am

I’ve never understood people as a whole, I’ll admit. In a movie where we get to see some great death scenes, dudes boiled alive, hacked up, killed by insect swarms, all I ever seem to hear about is how disturbed they were by seeing the configuration of the killer’s genitals. Really? I’ll never ‘get’ you people… and that’s probably a good thing.

  • mojosam1

pleeeaaaaaaaaase, what we do in the shadows, that movie is awesome 😉

  • Firx

    October 12, 2015 at 6:50 am

I’ve been taking MM as recommendations for my own October watching — was shocked as hell! With all the spoiling dicks on the Internet, I’m surprised I didn’t already know about this. Also, incredible that the campers weren’t played by 34 year-olds as is the norm.

  • DMM_poo

    October 12, 2015 at 7:23 am

Another movie that I had never seen before that I procured and watched due to MM. I really liked this one. It really felt like a camp, with actual kids playing the kids and going adults playing the camp counselors.

  • Corey Citrin

    October 16, 2015 at 11:33 am

The ending. Think of The Crying Game about Angela.

  • Andrew DiGiovanni

    November 6, 2015 at 9:52 pm

Fun fact: This movie gave the band CKY (Camp Kill Yourself) its name. And its drummer’s younger brother happens to be Bam Margera, the skateboarder and Jackass actor.

  • June 30, 2016 at 8:07 am

So was the killer a Transwoman in this or was that only in the sequels?
