Oh nice! Metroid is such a freakin’ classic! Though I do have to admit, I prefer Super Metroid to the original Metroid…but still, it’s a great game that is still fun to play today despite some of it’s shortcomings.
September 21, 2015 at 1:29 am
Yeah.. I feel ashamed, but metroid nes is my least favorite haha
I liked a lot better Metroid II and Super, of course.
September 21, 2015 at 6:12 am
I wish they would remake Metroid 2 in the same way they made Zero Mission.
September 21, 2015 at 6:16 am
I kinda wish you guys did Zero Mission or Metroid 2 instead. 😛
September 21, 2015 at 12:58 pm
Aw man, me too! I thought the gba would have had more remake like Zero mission. Like, Zelda II, imagine how cool that would be!
September 21, 2015 at 1:13 pm
I kinda hope that they will look at the AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) project once it’s completed. Imo it’s better than Zero Mission, and it’s a fan game. Though hope Nintendo won’t C&D it before it is completed. Too many years of work and passion in that project.

Wasted opportunity to have played the superior updated version, Metroid Zero instead.
September 21, 2015 at 1:26 am
YES! YEEEES! This metroid nerd is happy!!
September 21, 2015 at 9:45 am
YEEEEEEE! This Metroid nerd is happy too!

The low energy sound in this game is not that bad IMHO. I think even Zelda has a more annoying one. Come to think of it low energy sounds appear to be a staple of Nintendo franchises across the board. I think the worst though belongs to a game under Capcom’s umbrella called Mega Twins or Chiki Chiki Boys depending on which version of the game you play. Words cannot describe how annoying that sound is. I often die on purpose just to get rid of it.
September 28, 2015 at 2:58 am
Wasn’t the low-energy sound the same as the jump sound in the Disk System version? That could get confusing.

Getting the bad ending (just getting to the church) on Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde is really difficult because the barrels, bombs, and opera singer notes really bombard you on the last section, which ends up killing you. The good ending (where you start the last section as Dr. Jekyll and change over to Mr. Hyde and then surpass Dr. Jekyll’s position on the last section, go to the rooftops, and beat the last boss) is a lot easier to get because after you beat the last boss with Mr. Hyde the obstacles are gone on the Dr. Jekyll section. Also, the Japanese version is better and has 2 different towns/sections, a few more obstacles and enemies, and a few Jekyll/Hyde meter restoration areas when you’re Dr. Jekyll. Tip: instead of using the cane, try ducking and let the bees run into you in order to kill them
Also, there is an NES hack of Metroid where Samus is naked:

It took me years to figure out that you have to shoot multiple missiles to shoot the door open rather than using 1.
September 21, 2015 at 3:17 am
Ohh talking about Samus as a sex object the SJW’s are coming for you now guys.
They’re power up the spazz meter as I type this in order to reach full shame mode.
September 21, 2015 at 5:03 am
The nudity actually wasn’t a rumor. In the Japanese version of Super Metroid, when Samus died and her suit came off, she was briefly nude. In the western releases, this was censored. Nowadays, she has the Zero Suit on under her armor.

Please review Gradius series include life force
September 21, 2015 at 8:05 am
I hate these two-parters. Just make it an hour episode, dammit. 😛
September 21, 2015 at 8:52 am
Jesus…not again ANOTHER Nintendo video people have played 200000 times. Can you guys please make some more SEGA or Turbografx stuff?
September 21, 2015 at 9:22 am
Great video guys. I never got to play the original Metroid but I still remember getting Super Metroid and being blown away by the gameplay.
September 21, 2015 at 9:27 am
I respect the original Metroid for starting a great franchise, but compared to Super Metroid or Zero Mission, it does feel a bit dated and awkward in comparison. I especially love Zero Mission’s extended sequence and the great little bonus at the end credits. And Metroid Fusion is a real fuckin’ classic.
The Prime series did a great job of moving the game to 3D and keeping the same feel of gameplay in a different sort of perspective. They were also really atmospheric and are some of my favorite games of all time from the 2000s. Just hard as hell.

Will you review the shower with your dad simulator on Mike & Ryan Fridays?
September 21, 2015 at 10:40 am
Looking back at it now one should have realized it was a woman. Can see it on her ass. Nice ass.
September 21, 2015 at 12:48 pm
Week 17 of 52: I would like to request ‘Archon’
Can’t believe you missed the opportunity to reference Shit Pickle at 3:15. 🙂 Good vid, great game.
September 21, 2015 at 2:05 pm
Kids today man. I’d love to see some kid who thinks he’s hot shit when it comes to video games take a crack at Metroid. He’d get frustrated and give up after about 5 minutes.
September 21, 2015 at 4:26 pm
Yes! I new they’d do this soon! This was as anticipated as the phantom menace! Well, maybe not that much, but still very anticipated.
September 21, 2015 at 6:34 pm
So Mike who’s the hottest one ? 😉
September 23, 2015 at 5:23 pm
Mr. Pac-Man obviously
September 28, 2015 at 7:02 pm
You got that right she got a fat ass ^^ Can she even twerk ? XD
September 21, 2015 at 11:47 pm
So glad to finally see you guys play this game! One of my favorites growing up myself. I absolutely cannot wait to see you guys play Super Metroid, that one is my favorite Metroid game. How about this to try a new spin: Play the Brinstar bits with the Super Smash Bros. Melee rendition of Brinstar (playing over the sound or in the background, whichever you prefer), that music can really get you pumped up for a game, an ultracool adrenaline rush with a funky bass line that sounds like the same guy who did the opening intro to “ALF”.
September 22, 2015 at 12:38 am
OH MY GOD!!! I’ve been waiting for this forever!!!
September 22, 2015 at 4:35 am
Having never played a Metroid game, I guess I learned today where the name and logo for Screwattack came from, as well as their little opening jingle.
September 22, 2015 at 9:23 am
speaking of games with annoying low health reminder tunes, wizard and warrior on Nes has also one of the most annoying ones atleast in my opinion partialy because of the music in that game is otherwise awesome
January 2, 2016 at 5:22 pm
People always talk about this and the one game that does it worse than any other was the original Legend of Zelda, yet no one seems to bring that one up. That half-heart beeping is the worst.
September 22, 2015 at 12:56 pm
Metroid is one of those game lines that I sill beat today even with cheat carts and emulators. I looked what Metroid means it means parasitic bioforms.
September 22, 2015 at 3:47 pm
“Shower with Dad Simulator”?
Well guys, I think we know what game you need to review next.
September 22, 2015 at 10:23 pm
FUCK YEAH! METROID AT LAST!
September 22, 2015 at 10:33 pm
James you totally earned that one. I was having HORRIBLE flashbacks watching you play the end.
Side note: As annoying as Mike can be… it is way better having you two there together.
September 27, 2015 at 10:49 am
You know game is total fuck-shit when you have to go LEFT in the beginning
September 28, 2015 at 4:44 am
You guys seem to really know your stuff! I never played much of this one, and it’s cool to see you guys tackle it.
Samus just wants to take “E” with Mega Man… that was hilarious. Thanks guys!
September 30, 2015 at 11:39 pm
That’s funny. Metroid is my favorite series for Nintendo games. And Board James is my favorite videos on your site.
October 1, 2015 at 4:43 am
Rule 34, guys. Nude Samus has already been done.
