This game would of had a great potential to be a nerd episode, but in some respect at least he finally played contra force.

    • August 18, 2015 at 4:04 pm

Based on watching the video, it seemed like the controls were the only major flaw. I think it would’ve been boring as a Nerd episode. Not a lot of funny stuff to say.

I think I’ve heard “off the chain” before, and I’m a Finn. In Hot Fuzz, I believe, if not any place else.

(By the way, I’m here to comment on important things again… you’re welcome.)

    • August 18, 2015 at 2:18 pm

My dad always says “off the chain”, meaning “this is amazing!” when he is really impressed with something. I’m surprised the guys never heard it before, then again my dad always says some really old, archaic expressions once in awhile.

  • August 17, 2015 at 4:56 am

Be real Great if you guys Could play U.N. Squadron. Cinemassacre rocks.

  • August 17, 2015 at 5:10 am

Are there alternate weapons for each character?

    Urban Dictionary:
    “off the chain”

    (1) (Adj.) a great deal of fun
    (2) (Adj.) very attractive

    (1) Wow Mike, this party has punch and cake and everything! It’s really OFF THE CHAIN!
    (2) That girl has a nice rack. She is OFF THE CHAIN.

    • August 20, 2015 at 11:19 pm

      Much different definitions on Wiktionary:
      1. Free from work or direct supervision. In reference to slave labor, where workers are chained, or to the figurative chain of workers of an assembly line.
      2. Crazy and exciting; delirious and wild. By analogy to a frenetic dog when unleashed.

    Really loving the series.

Would like to see you guys do a item on speedruns/speedrunnes one day. Seeing the games you find really hard being done as fast as shit. Speedrunnes are awesome, all the time and effort they put in it. Keep on finding new things in really old games to take advantage of.

“Off the chains” is a valid expression i think aswell. I am pretty sure i have heard it before.

As far as these unauthorized Chinese hack games go, this one was surprisingly playable.

I can understand your feelings towards emulators Mike but people who use them do not necessarily use save states. I must use emulators to play these games because there are just way too expensive in Germany. I simply can’t afford them, but when I play them on emulators I don’t use save states to get the original experience. I think I’m not the only one.

I’m tired of them s***ing on emulators, forgetting that even the retro games on VC is an emulator. They’re under the impression that everyone who uses emulators uses savestates and very likely plays it on keybaords. Actually, I use savestates at the beginning of every level and if I want to practice a part over and over again before playing it from the beginning. I have controllers from the original console that I can attach via USB. I use the speed-up features to speed up games like on PSX so I don’t have to go through scenes I don’t like or care about (which I used to play on the original console–still have the game, not the PSX or PS2, nor do I care to download it to play on PS3 or 4.)

Get off your high horse, James and Mike.

Hey guys, since you sometimes play Japanese games, why don’t you try the game “Wai Wai World 2”? (http://www.gamefaqs.com/nes/570521-wai-wai-world-2-sos-paseri-jou/images)
It’s a two-player action/platforming game from Konami where you play as two robots which can change into other Konami characters and every level is taken from other Konami games (Contra, TwinBee, Akumajou Dracula, Gradius, etc).
It’s one of the best co-op games for the system

This game has the same cover as the snes/genesis game DOOM TROOPERS. I think you’ll find that’s a better game.

You guys need to bust out the Power Pad and play Super Team Games. The game is fun and it will kick your ass.

    Good run guys!

Are you going to do Contra ReBirth on Wii Virtual Console? It was actually published by Konami. It’s very fun.

  • August 18, 2015 at 1:22 pm

The ending for the game is corrupted in this bootleg hack. There is supposed to be some “story” text, poses by the 4 characters and end credits. I’m always hopeful that one or more of the crappy Contra games gets reviewed for AVGN. Even if several of them have been covered in the past here on James and Mike Mondays.

  • August 18, 2015 at 3:32 pm

Guys that chinese yellow cardridges had this 3 in 1 stuff. To switch this games just hit restart ๐Ÿ™‚ Also in this contra game you’re able to select weapons with Select button. But im not 100% sure.

Good episode. I was just thinking, there needs to be a forum on this site. James or Mike, did you ever think of that?

    • August 18, 2015 at 11:56 pm

I’ve often wondered that too. A Cinemassacre forum would be great. A place for all the fans to gather to discuss AVGN and Board James and other series in-depth instead of always having to do it in the comments section of the videos. The only reason I can think of as to why they don’t do it is because it’d be too hard for the both of them to be able to moderate the forum among their already very busy schedule. Of course, they could just pick some well-respected members that they trust to come onboard as moderators. I think that could work.

But then again, J & M would be constantly spammed with messages asking them if they could become a moderator and that would get irritating extremely quickly. James or Mike, if you could respond and confirm or deny if this is the reason why a Cinemassacre forum does not exist, that’d be wonderful.

BTW James and Mike Actress who played Batgirl(Yvonne Craig)from Batman TV series.

  • August 20, 2015 at 4:47 am

I’m not sure if he has or not done it already, but I think the Nerd should cover all SACHEN games one day. They are all fucking terrible…

    • August 21, 2015 at 10:26 pm

I read about that on Wikipedia, and it does sound like a good thing for AVGN. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • August 20, 2015 at 12:01 pm

Was wondering how you guys go about selecting which titles you’ll play from week to week. Do you guys have pre-determined list? Or do you just go with it?

P.S To Mike: A discussion was sparked concerning Zelda II, sparked by a comment you made in you appearance in the video game years: about death mountain being the toughest part of the game for you, an opinion I share. That said, many argue that the Great Palace is by far more difficult. How do you manage through the palace? Any tips? If you ever have up for it, a zelda II let’s play would be interesting.

My guess is that they called it Contra 3 in 1 because of the names of the characters, which are from 3 games (Ryu and Guile, which I think they mixed up the pictures of their faces, from Street Fighter; Rambo from…whatever; and Bill from Contra). As if just the names made the characters…yeah Ryu shoting a fucking machinegun instead of doing Hadokens is very credible and makes you feel like playing Street Fighter inside of Contra…well I guess that’s pop culture at its worst!

  • August 22, 2015 at 5:02 pm

There’s so much chain climbing in this game it should be called DONKEY CONTRA JR.

  • August 22, 2015 at 5:04 pm

Actually “off the chain” is a term used lol

It was a fun two videos but definitely not a must play.

  • December 24, 2015 at 6:54 pm

Oh yeah, Mike. ‘Cause that’s what people crave in their Contra games… realism, HA!
