Bootsy attempts to guide you through levels 1-4 of Battletoads for the NES – one of the hardest video games ever made!
July 28, 2015 at 12:30 am
Nice vid man, you should do one on contra hard corps, another one thats all about trial and error and knowing whats coming
July 28, 2015 at 12:53 am
Great video! Keep it up Bootsy.
Yay, more Bootsy! Hope this becomes a weekly thing (at least).
July 28, 2015 at 1:08 am
Bootsy!! This was such a great video!! An awesome surprise to see you make your own video!!
I would watch every bootsy video!! YOu are my favourite character in Board James. Funniest part is when you say really crazy unexpected stuff in the board james videos, you should bring more of that humor out in these videos!!

I can’t say you missed anything, for most part this game is trial an error. It took me a while to get passed the turbo tunnel area myself, but after awhile I was able to get to the final stage but could never complete it due to lack of lives and continues, and wouldn’t continue on because of frustration…I couldn’t do it any more but…I could at one point
July 28, 2015 at 2:11 am
Bootsy has taken over the Nintendo Power Line as the last Nintendo Game Counselor. If you enter his phone number into Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out, you get a busy signal.
July 28, 2015 at 2:25 am
Great video. It’s presented very well. Everything’s demonstrated and spoken clearly and at a great pace.
July 28, 2015 at 3:18 am
Good stuff. I always loved this game growing up but hated it because it could never make it far. Now I’m gonna have to go back and try it again.
July 28, 2015 at 4:00 am
It’s a nice and entertaining video, but I was expecting some classic Bootsy humor as well! My favourite like is from the Donut Disaster Board James epidode: “I like my coffee how I like my women: with my dick in it!”. Good stuff man.
July 28, 2015 at 4:01 am
Oh…A new series Eh?! And instead of a review or a simple rant, it’s a walkthrough video… Damn good!
July 28, 2015 at 4:26 am
Awesome series, thanks!!
July 28, 2015 at 4:40 am
Nice video, though it’s also suddenly made me realise how long it’s been since we had a Mike’s Game Glitches episode.
July 28, 2015 at 6:31 am
Great Video Bootsy, btw when you said you don’t recall any other game using the point of view of the boss, the one that come in my mind immediately is Shredder in Tutle in times on Snes !
July 28, 2015 at 7:19 am
Play those bongos!
I guess I’ll ask what everyone else is thinking…when do we see parts 2 and 3? And how frequently will we get new eps going forward?
Also, where’s the request thread? ;P I’m sure we all have our “Achilles Heel” game in our past, which we could never quite beat.
July 28, 2015 at 8:25 am
Nice, Bootsy got his own video! Cinemassacre is getting so much better lately.
July 28, 2015 at 8:29 am
Good shit Boots
July 28, 2015 at 10:35 am
This is awesome. Bootsy’s Bootcamp. Can’t wait for the next videos.
July 28, 2015 at 10:51 am
Bootsie Beats should become a perm thing. Bootsie is good in front of the cam. FUCK THE BLUE JAYS! GO INDIANS!
July 28, 2015 at 10:52 am
This is really interesting 🙂 Always nice to see a new ‘show’ even if Bootsy seems a tad nervous. Still, it’s very informative and I’m interested to see more
July 28, 2015 at 10:59 am
Loved the video, and hope for many more. Thanks, Bootsy!
July 28, 2015 at 11:12 am
theres just something about bootsy I really like. He has a weird charisma about him. I think he could really go places.
Glad you have your own bit you odd Asperger video game conquering machine!
July 28, 2015 at 11:24 am
Great concept! Bootsy rocks!
July 28, 2015 at 11:35 am
Great video, Bootsy. I’d like to share a strategy that got me thru the turbo tunnel fairly easily. Rather than keeping an eye on the player sprite itself, focus on its shadow instead. I found that no matter whether the toad is bobbing up or down, if it touches a vertical slab it won’t hurt, as long as the shadow doesn’t touch it. In fact, for section 5, I find it easy when I constantly jump up, guiding the shadow through the obstacles. Again, the toad won’t die if it appears to overlap with the obstacle. On the teal ramps, line the shadow up with the ramp’s shadow before jumping (usually in the middle). Also it’s worth noting that when making the jumps on the “!” section, stay to the bottom of the screen. As long as the shadow is on the floor when you’re landing, you will land just fine.
July 28, 2015 at 11:41 am
In other words, as soon as you get in the car, your shadow becomes your hit box.
July 28, 2015 at 11:46 am
Very helpful information there. Maybe I can actually get past the turbo tunnel now.
On a side note, was that Bootsy on bongos?
July 28, 2015 at 11:52 am
For some reason, I like you Bootsy. Don’t know why but there is something about you that seems familiar.
Great video, keep up the good work! Would love this to be a weekly thing.
I would like to see you play Super Meat Boy. One of the hardest games I have ever played. It truly is amazing and the rush you get from finishing it is orgasm quality 😉 . Not to mention the user made levels. Can keep you busy for months.
July 28, 2015 at 9:09 pm
Bootsy! Please stick to the old classics and don’t play any new stuff. Requests will be coming out of the woodwork here. Fourth generation and before perhaps..
July 28, 2015 at 12:43 pm
YAY Bootsy your the best man. Goood to see you doing your own video’s your such a laid back cool dude man hopefully you keep this stuff up.
July 28, 2015 at 12:46 pm
Bootsy, you’re the man! I’m waiting the tips on level 11, I have no hope on that level.
July 28, 2015 at 1:03 pm
loved this video – Bootsy is the man and I can’t wait to watch more of these. It’s like a magician revealing some of his methods, really cool and fun to watch. Bootsy Beats!!!!
July 28, 2015 at 1:17 pm
I beat this game once when I was 13. Took me at least a month of super frustrating trial and error. When I had school, I left my NES running constantly. I was totally burned out by the end.
Dude, you made it look so fucking easy. Thanks for doing these videos, after 23 years I think I’m ready to give it another go.
July 28, 2015 at 1:23 pm
I can definitely get behind this series.
July 28, 2015 at 1:31 pm
This guy is like 40 and dresses like a 12-year-old kid. I can’t watch any of the vids that he is in as he’s effing creepy.
July 28, 2015 at 1:36 pm
You are right. I usually play video games dressed up in a three-piece suit, how dare he dress like this!
July 28, 2015 at 8:38 pm
I work outside and we get hooded sweatshirts are part of our uniform for colder days and baseball hats for the brighter days. There are people in their 60s on the staff. What is creepy about those articles of clothing? Or were just looking for something negative to say in a desperate attempt for the attention you’d get from a reply?
July 28, 2015 at 1:35 pm
Boots might be the most likable internet personality out there today. I’d love to hang out with this guy.
July 28, 2015 at 1:37 pm
Bootsy, sorry, lol.
July 28, 2015 at 2:07 pm
zomg, Bootsy got his own show. That was cool, I’m going to go work on my bongos now.
July 28, 2015 at 3:26 pm
I love this idea plus I really enjoy watching Bootsy’s badassedness and skill. I would love for a TMNT on NES — I beat this one myself after 20 years of mastery and I would love the James, Mike & Bootsy commentary on this classic.
July 28, 2015 at 4:21 pm
Awesome that you starten this new series! And you sure picked the right game too. I used to play this all the time when I was a kid, but I never beat the turbo tunnel. I cant tell you how frustrating it was to see my brother do it all the time. Keep em coming Bootsy!
July 28, 2015 at 4:46 pm
You might as well start with one of the hardest games for NES if you’re going to do walkthrough videos. This guys legit.
July 28, 2015 at 5:04 pm
Cool video, awesome that you’re taking the time to explain these hard-to-beat games, however I think your tone of voice and level of excitement could use a bit of work. You sound very depressed and drab throughout. Nothing major, just a minor complaint, everything else is flawless!
July 28, 2015 at 6:24 pm
bootsy gotz skill
July 28, 2015 at 7:11 pm
I think we all agree he should do Ghosts & Goblins.
July 28, 2015 at 7:19 pm
Three cheers for worthwhile content! Go Bootsy go!
July 28, 2015 at 8:29 pm
I’d love to see an episode (maybe not as part of “Bootsy Beats”) where you go thru that awesome vinyl collection!
July 28, 2015 at 9:15 pm
…I wonder how long it would take him to beat Ghostbusters 2 on the atari 2600.
July 28, 2015 at 9:34 pm
Great video Bootsy. Looking forward to this series. There are a bunch of praising comments coming really fast for this. I agree and I have always enjoyed Bootsy like most, but you all need to show James some love on that Special Effects video. That was awesome. Just saying.
July 28, 2015 at 9:37 pm
Love this video concept! Great job Bootsy.
July 28, 2015 at 10:06 pm
Love the show. Bootsy rules.
If you guys are taking suggestions for this show:
1. I would love to have a bit of the game audio in there. It would just generally make it more entertaining.
2. I loved the few jokes in the episode. And I would like to see even more like that (The bongos, Miley Cyrus reference, etc)
3. I felt like the voice over was just a tiny bit monotonous. I know that it’s an educational video at heart, but I think it would be slightly more enthralling with some inflection, or even just recognition for some of the clutch moments.
Will watch every episode. I hope they never end.
July 28, 2015 at 11:05 pm
Good work Bootsy. You’re a natural. Very informative and just the right amount o bad humour 😉 And well done (James?) on fast forwarding and slowing down where necessary.
July 29, 2015 at 12:32 am
Toronto Blue Jays! I’m a Montreal Expos fan myself. But anyway Bootsy you have Great pace and speak amazingly clear. Seriously best walkrhroufh in and out I have ever seen. I think we found Bootsy’s MAGIC PLACE IN CINEMASSACRE. James for avgn and movie reviews, mother fucker Mike for game glitches and let’s plays, and mother fucking Bootsy for walkthroughs. Awesome.
July 29, 2015 at 9:50 am
I got my NES on pause waiting for Part 2 ^ ^
July 29, 2015 at 10:03 am
Nice use of the slow motion and fast forward, but I don’t think you really need to alter the sound… I mean, when you play the sound isn’t altered so you might as well practice on the unaltered sound. Other than that, to make the video more enjoyable I would recommend giving us some moments where we have full audio of the game, and lowering it when you talk. I know that there is so much to cover that it’s hard to have these moments, but I think it would be a nice addition.
July 29, 2015 at 11:49 am
Bootsy that was really great! Hope to see LOTS more of these Bootsy Beats in the future!
July 29, 2015 at 1:17 pm
bootsy for president!!!
July 29, 2015 at 1:29 pm
Just noticed your Public Enemy t-shirt. Noice!
July 29, 2015 at 2:27 pm
Great video, Bootsy!
Also, I wanted to mention that this video isn’t listed under “Bootsy Beats” section but under “Mike’s Gaming Videos”. Probably Mike uploaded it in the wrong section. You should let him know so he can fix it.
July 29, 2015 at 7:01 pm
Love this. TY Boots and co. Keep it up!
July 30, 2015 at 4:12 am
Bootsy you make a great coach and your one of the best retro gamers I’ve ever seen! Is your NES controller modded with convex buttons?
July 30, 2015 at 4:26 am
i can see why this game would make you hate ice levels lol.
July 30, 2015 at 6:32 am
I rarely comment but I just wanted to say that it is refreshing to see some who acts normal like bootsy. He’s funny and interesting. More bootsy please.
July 30, 2015 at 11:59 am
Bootsy! can you do a review of some of your favorite records?
July 30, 2015 at 5:28 pm
Good to see Bootsyvid. Hope he continues doing these.
July 31, 2015 at 2:13 am
I must say I enjoyed seeing bootsy beating bongos in ‘Bootsy Beats’. I look forward to seeing more ‘Bootsy Beats’. Keep up the good work
July 31, 2015 at 4:41 am
Bootsy the Gamemaster? hmmm….
July 31, 2015 at 12:57 pm
This feels like an ASMR video. haha
August 1, 2015 at 4:35 pm
Can’t wait for ‘Bootsy Beats Off- …Road’!
August 2, 2015 at 7:28 am
This game is included in the Rare Replay pack on Xbox One. They even fixed the two player glitch that was in the original version.
August 3, 2015 at 10:51 am
Excellent work Bootsy and your tips come along in a nice calm tone which is always a bonus.
August 3, 2015 at 3:56 pm
Awesome video. I’m looking forward to the next one. For anyone who still has trouble with the last part of the turbo tunnel, remember what Bootsy says about staying near the center. The most common mistake I remember watching my friends make was moving too far up or down and not having enough time to move back in the other direction enough to clear the next slab. You want to move just far enough to clear the slabs and you don’t have to move as far up or down as you might think.
August 3, 2015 at 8:15 pm
August 4, 2015 at 7:16 am
I’m a huge fan of all the videos on the site, and I’m very happy to see bootsy doing his own series.
I think he did an excellent job and am excited to see more of his gameplay.
August 8, 2015 at 7:59 pm
Beat every notoriously difficult game, Bootsy! You can do it! Next up: TMNT.
August 25, 2015 at 6:11 am
GO BOOTSY GO!!!
May 16, 2016 at 6:28 pm
Bootsy, your the man
June 21, 2016 at 1:30 am
Awesome vid. Your narration style reminds me of Bill Murray’s narration from “The Life Aquatic” which is an awesome movie. Also, the Ice Level really seems reminiscent of the Ice Level from “Ghouls and Ghosts” on the Sega Genesis (which was a fun game). Looking forward to seeing more videos!
September 7, 2016 at 9:00 pm
The way Bootsy presents these “Bootsy Beats” videos is hilarious. I’m pretty sure he’s emulating those late 80s/early 90s instructional videos with the soft toned voices, the expressive yet mild hand gestures, and the extreme detail into even the slightest minutia.
Great video set, Bootsy!
