Annnnddd…. You are the shit James! Thanks for another great review

I’d like to see James rank the Friday the 13th movies when this is all said and done.

      March 10, 2015 at 12:47 pm

      Yes, this. Please do James.

Also I’m so glad you showed some of the unedited kills. Enough people don’t appreciate just how good this one was actually made to be. One thing worth mentioning though, the alternate ending had Jason come out of the lake just like the end of part 1. Amazing right?

Defintely my fave entry in the series even with the horrendous cuts. No pun intended.

Regarding the ending, you said “Tina’s dad” but then went on to say “Jason’s dad”.

  • Tim Harrod

    March 10, 2015 at 4:23 am

Young Tina looks like they were trying to replicate Heather O’Rourke, which just makes me sad rather than scared.

  • March 10, 2015 at 4:55 am

Jason or Tina’s father dragged him into the water?

    • Xen11

      March 10, 2015 at 5:04 am

      Tina’s father.

Wouldn’t it have been interesting if Tina and Jason had the same father and different mothers? And when Jason kills Tina’s mother, it would be like Jason resenting the other woman that was between HIS mother and father. Tina would be Jason’s sister from another mother and they would both harbor resentment towards one another as they could have each been somewhat responsible for the other’s family crumbling apart. That could have been amazing. Sibling rivalry and each fighting their haunted past incarnate. I’m sure someone will use this premise now.

The New Blood is the f-i-r-s-t entry of this franchise I didn’t like. I thought Part 1 was just OK. Parts 2 through 6 are fucking awesome. It has an interesting setup (maybe the most of the franchise) as it has a character with a backstory that is haunted with Jason being a metaphor for her traumatic past of killing her father and her presently being exploited for what she is. Abused, like Jason. Both of their mothers murdered. Yet, the movie does nothing interesting with it and is a bore.

You could skip it and it wouldn’t matter. Jason ends up in the exact same place he ended up at the end of Part 6. The only difference is that his mask is now gone. It could have floated away as far as anyone knows ( as an explanation if you went from Part 6 to Part 8).

Like Evil Dead (2013), The New Blood wastes a very interesting setup. Evil Dead had demon possession as a metaphor for heroin addiction withdrawal. Both films are a major missed opportunity and (while both visually pleasing) are the most dull and boring of their series. Sure, both climaxes have great action and the films are very visually appealing, but they waste their characters that had great potential.

I feel that The New Blood is probably the worst of the entire franchise.

So did the MPAA come down harder on Friday the 13th as the franchise moved along?

  • March 10, 2015 at 8:03 am

F13 just kept going downhills for every movie. Love the soundtrack and the cheering kids though!

  • March 10, 2015 at 8:30 am

    Jason’s Dad? Don’t you mean Tina’s Dad?

  • sev666

    March 10, 2015 at 9:39 am

This entry is pretty good as well.

I pretty much enjoy all the Paramount entry films in one way or another, even the much criticized Jason Takes A Boat.

Once you get to the New Line films though.

    Yuck

    • March 10, 2015 at 2:11 pm

Lol. Yeah, once you change the title like that, killing espectations, it’s not that bad. I sure liked it. It played with the thing of him still being a boy, like they would in Freddy vs Jason.

This is my personal favourite in the series

    March 10, 2015 at 10:52 am

This is one of my favorite movies of the series, because the effects simply make it worth watching.

😀 Whoa Jason are one ugly MF! without hockey mask now.

  • March 10, 2015 at 12:29 pm

Part 6&7 are my favorite parts, they might not be great but they are the most entertaining in my opinion

  • March 10, 2015 at 1:42 pm

Lately i have been having lots of issues trying to watch videos from cinemassacre…am i the only one?

They do. Try different browser. Works fine on Lumia 635 W8.1. Doesn’t seem to go full screen. Might need to try different browser myself. James! Mike! I have the app on apple and android. Put it on windows phone! I’ll get it!

  • March 10, 2015 at 2:00 pm

interesting trivia: The actress who plays Tina’s mom is Susan Blu, who voiced Arcee from Transformers: The Movie (the 1980s one).

The video player of this site is an abomination, keeps freezing and decreasing the video quality… I can’t stand it.

  • March 10, 2015 at 2:08 pm

Since you mentioned in the last movie the continuity of the mask having the axe hit from Part 3, I can’t believe you didn’t mention this movie goes even further with continuity! Not only jason has the axe hit (both on the mask AND on his head), but also the mask is partly broken due to the propeller from Part 6, and when he’s unmasked you can even see the machete hit that killed him in Part 4!

  • March 10, 2015 at 4:11 pm

Sweet review, as usual! Despite the MPAA cuts, this is one of the best Jason films IMO; if not solely because of the fight between Tina and Jason. In fact, if they had more interactions and confrontations throughout the film I probably would list this as my #1 in the series; and you are right, Jason never looked more badass and I love Kane Hodder’s hulking figure, in fact even though I actually rather like Freddy vs. Jason I always hated that they didn’t get Hodder back or at the very least find someone as bulky as Jason just looked too thin and weak in FVJ.

  • AbsoluteDeicide

    March 10, 2015 at 5:17 pm

Wow, that’s so goddamn sad seeing all the cut footage. I remember this one the most as well… it would have been the shit with those death scenes. If only they finished them and kept them for an unrated video release. Fuck the MPAA and fuck censorship period.

I get the sense that James is a little worn out by this series right now. Maybe I’m wrong though.
Anyway, I like this film, and have it on VHS (as i do parts 5 &6, while “Jason Goes To Hell” I have on DVD. I lost the VHS 1-3 and “The Final Chapter” tape got moldy). Man, I really don’t get the MPAA; if the gore (even a little bit more) can’t be shown, what’s the point of these films then?

  • Jacob Snyder

    March 10, 2015 at 9:25 pm

So right with this one, most of the movie is bullshit until the ending when it gets so epic

  • fanboyfilms

    March 10, 2015 at 11:20 pm

I agree, best looking Jason and best stunt work. The formula is pretty tired but for those things alone, it’s worth it.

Carrie vs. The Terminator, nice. 😀 Only three more left!

  • March 11, 2015 at 11:08 pm

I don’t think she brought him back to life. I think he was always alive at the bottom of the lake. She just broke his chains and allowed him to rise.

    March 12, 2015 at 10:52 am

While I do not like censorship and films being cut.
I have to say I think the infamous sleeping bag kill works much better being cut to just 1 hit as it showed Jason’s strength and brutality more.
The multiple hits is just overkill and looks a bit stupid.

    March 12, 2015 at 1:20 pm

If the MPAA didn’t massacre this film it’d probably would’ve been considered the best of the series, as it stands now it’s just “MEH”.

  • ejp022791

    March 12, 2015 at 11:38 pm

Fuck the MPAA. They ruined these movies. Especially this one. They completely butchered it.

  • evilromero

    March 15, 2015 at 7:11 pm

Why would the producers continue to shoot all of these gruesome scenes when they know the MPAA is going to slap an NC-17 on it? I mean, it’s the seventh fucking movie!

Just wanted to point out that the mask Jason`s wears is the one Tommy brought to the graveyard when Jason was resurrected in part VI, the original that Jason stole in part III must have been long lost, remember? in part VI Tommy is full grown, at least 7 or 8 years have passed…

Jason looks properly psycho in this one.
