Was that Mike’s girlfriend at the end? Just a friend? Well at any rate, it’s nice to see a female in a video. That suprised me. As for the game, it looks fun!

    • February 20, 2015 at 8:50 am

Yeah, that’s my girlfriend. And she kicks my ass at Indy 500 on Atari !!

You’ve bee so secret about your love-life I was wondering if we’d ever find out! James has Mrs. Nerd, any chance we’ll see Mrs. Matei? Congratulations on her being a gamer too!

I love how it takes longer for the computer to process moves as the difficulty ramps up; it just seems like such a literal “loading…” screen so to speak. There’s something charming about it, and it makes you wonder just how slow or fast it’s going through the possible moves. Maybe there’s a gremlin inside each cartridge figuring out the moves!

    Thanks Mike ๐Ÿ™‚

    • February 20, 2015 at 8:52 am

Well, I play on the lower levels any way. I haven’t been able to beat anything on difficulty 3. The computer is merciless.

        February 22, 2015 at 6:35 pm

Man that’s a scary thought, isn’t it? The machines will steam roll the human race when they realize we can’t even beat them at Tic-Tac-Toe beyond level 3! On a 2600 no less! That’s like the musket rifle of computers today. I used to have a electronic chess board a lot like that too, the higher the difficulty the longer it took to make a move but the end was always the same: you lose human!

Waiting for the computer to think reminds me of Famicom Wars for the well, Famicom.

This looks fun. Great, very fair review.

its nice how people (myself included) find interesting when mike and james include little bits of their personal life in the videos. it seems we viewers enjoy that, somehow.

I like that they implement as much as possible things that cannot be done on paper or any tangible materials.

This was one of my favorite 2600 games. I played the shit out of it when I was a kid. I had the cart with the art label and I always thought this one in particular looked badass.

Nothing to do with the video (nice review!), but was wondering if you (Mike) had any intentions on reviewing Majora’s Mask 3D?

  • Slamraptor

    February 20, 2015 at 12:50 pm

Hm I don’t have that one, looks pretty cool for a retro multiplayer session. Gonna get me one (: Thanks for the introduction and I think your girlfriend also kicks your ass in 3D-Tic-Tac-Toe according to her reaction in the video. ^^

    Obviously its all staged ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Interesting.
Do you know other idem gems like this one on the Atari ? As I missed this console back in the days (I started playing with the nes) I mostly know the classics and the games this console is best remembered for … this doesn’t include such titles. Based on it’s title alone I would have completely skipped this one on ebay but now … I’ll clearly look for it ! THANKS ๐Ÿ™‚

    • February 20, 2015 at 5:34 pm

I don’t think I’d call this game a gem. It’s just average. But yeah, there are a ton of great atari games.

    February 20, 2015 at 5:32 pm

I remember Atari having a game called Video Chess that had the same loading screen issue. For the infamous lack of computing power the console had, however, the fact that it could offer a challenge to a human opponent at all in either r chess or this game is a credit to the designers.

Hey Mike and James, this is unrelated to your current video, but I had to tell you.I think I figured out the mystery of the Godzilla gameboy game that had Godzilla and all the other monsters looking like absurd cartoon characters.Well there was a Japanese show in the 90s that featured a similar Godzilla cartoon like character which aired in Japan to promote the movies to children. It’s called Godzilland. There’s an episode on youtube, and there’s an intro, and a scene online where Godzilla uses a Sesame street like style to teach math. It’s oddly intriguing, and I thought you should know about it,just so you could finally get an idea on why they styled Godzilla the way they did in the gameboy game.

Nice little review Mike, thanks for showing us!
I’m also glad that we got that little peak into your personal life; I really enjoy getting to know you and James better as “human beings” instead of just the “characters” you guys play.
Though…I can understand your desire for privacy since there are so many internet idiots being…well…idiots.

While I’m not a personal fan of systems older than the NES, I can definitely appreciate a good review of an Atari title. It’s kind of refreshing to see something from so long ago receive such a well crafted opinion.

I suppose there are worse concepts for a game. Actually, for an Atari game that might be downright creative. I’m sure it beats playing Atari porn games. I’m sure I’m like the millionth person to be intrigued by the cameo from your girlfriend, but you’ve already talked about her.

    February 21, 2015 at 5:33 am

This might sound a bit random, but any chance you might review Solaris in the future? It was my favorite 2600 game, and I still think it’s pretty fun.

  • February 21, 2015 at 5:35 am

The review was great as always! I was surprised to see a “pet-monster” jammed between the furnitures. ๐Ÿ˜€
Cยดmon Mike, mine is sitting in the back of my car, strapped of course. Thatยดs a good life for a pet-monster! You gotta give it some space!

This is the best review you’ve done yet. I really liked the presentation of the game’s history, the way the game was demonstrated, and the little touches like the end with the two of you playing. The editing is also great, the whole thing flowed very smoothly. And I really appreciate the love you give to Atari, I hope there are more 2600 reviews.

I got so good at 3D Tic Tac Toe that the computer has been thinking about its next move since 1983.

Nice review. We don’t hear about Atari games too often. I suck at Chess, so this one probably isn’t for me. ๐Ÿ˜€
