As always awesome and fun review, I also love that console, there are enough N64 variations to make one’s head spin, I just want the one that plays the proper Killer Instinct and Cruis’n USA. Though I know that only exists in emulation. Thanks for the video! πŸ™‚

I think he is talking about the arcade versions.

    • January 14, 2015 at 12:56 am

Yep arcade versions, what we got worked, but in my eyes even as a young boy was no replacement for the promised, hype of the opening screens of the Ultra64. Hell if they released stand alone boards for those games, or ones that were spot on with a good stick, I would be all over that.

Shadows of the Empire was fun on Hoth, then the game gets tremendously tedious and boring, I rented it several times (not a huge library at that time to chose from) and just lost interest after that level really. Star Wars Arcade was good, but I liked X-Wing and Tie Fighter.

    • January 14, 2015 at 1:03 am

*promised* not worked and by the time the system came out I was in the 8th grade, boo. Miss spending my quarters for game throughs with Chief Thunder and Fulgore. Though what really made the arcade stand out over everything at that time was the cinematics and music, N64 just couldn’t do it, the 3D was always blurred, that is why my system of choice was PS, Twisted Metal, Warhawk, a good MK3 at launch, Resident Evil (oh wow) enough said. The music CD that came with the SNES version was the remenent we had/have of that masterpiece by RARE.

For anyone who’s a fan of Mike, i’m creating a Mike Compilation on my site Mike Matei

@JamesRolfe’sNewBaby How do you know she’s not in 7th grade? I’m sure you were born able to make fantastic websites, but not all of us were. If you’re such a great web designer, how about you give her some helpful tips instead of being a jerk? Keep at it Marissa Cole, it’s way better than my attempts and you can only improve!

I think the layout’s good (although for some reason it only shows on the left side of my screen) and the content’s great, but it does look a little sparse. Maybe add some backgrounds and try some cooler looking fonts? Wish I could help further, but as I say, you’re already much better than me!

Hey guys. Check out my latest movie review and let me know what you think? My film making is a work in progress for sure : -\

ME too!, its frustrating watching James and Mike play sometimes when you know things about the game that they don’t. Like how the challenge points give you extra lives at the end of the levels depending on how many you collect. Or just the fact that you have to run through that dark hallway in part 1. I love the part when there fighting IG88, that part scared the shit out of me as a kid.

Ig-88 used to scare me to death as a kid. He’s spooky even now.

The whole Shadows of the Empire thing was so cool. I remember as a kid that there were so many tie-ins with games, books, comics, toys…it was huge, and it was awesome. I wish they made a Shadows of the Empire movie instead of the prequel trilogy… : /

Nothing but a bright future ahead of me. X_X

If I could be serious for a moment James and Mike’s strengths are their abilities to point out the truth, cussing is NOT a skill, and gimme a break, I’m not a spam bot…

How great is this game? It took next gen consoles to provide multiple perspective to GTA5. This game has it natively baked in!

  • January 12, 2015 at 1:08 am

Haha, I always love to see when James puts his controller and pressed (jump-)button right into the camera to show that he had the timing right, but it refused to work. πŸ˜€
It happened a lot to me, and I did the same thing, even though there were no cameras at all.

It’s like looking over indignantly at the referee when you’ve been fouled and he doesn’t call it.

    January 12, 2015 at 1:28 am

So, that boss is basically Nemesis from Resident Evil 3, except he only appears in that one part, and doesn’t have a missile launcher(thankfully). This game looks pretty tough, and one thing I dislike about the N64 is the controller. It’s a pretty cool looking game otherwise though.

  • mysterywolf

    January 12, 2015 at 2:04 am

Eh I can imagine that Star Wars just calls it as ‘one big mega time skip’ such as between Episode 3 and 4.

I also remember those gaming magazines not always being helpful…best example is FF8. The magazine I read gave them stats and levels and everything about their spells and such.

FF8 levels up with you. Bosses change depending on your level. The magazine was useless.

  • January 12, 2015 at 2:50 am

Awesome a Final Fantasy 6 nod. I have it paused upstairs as I am watching this, Kefka is one of the greatest villains ever.

  • Fred Fuchs

    January 12, 2015 at 5:22 am

Love how this game has shonky controls, terrible camera angles, unfair deaths, shit platforming that doesn’t work for this genre, the inability to aim and boring bossfights but it’s considered a GOOD game because it’s on N64 lel.

    • Andrew Wood

      January 12, 2015 at 2:01 pm

I don’t think it’s considered good just because it’s on N64. It may be considered good because of its atmosphere and the variety of gameplay. But it has many flaws, such as what you pointed out, and there’s no reason it should be receiving as much praise as it has been. Just as a sidenote, it did get poor reviews when it came out. It was never considered a classic like so many people on here are making it out to be.

Too be honest, I dunno how good I’d do since I haven’t played this game in a long long time, but at least I know to use powerups. Countless times I watch these videos and they never use any powerups… Using only the blaster on IG-88 makes that fight 100x harder than it should.

I was right about the cutscenes! The ones on the PC were full motion CGI. (They didn’t have them on every level, just key ones). This one had a great one showing the train slam right into the gate, and Rendar jumping off the train.

One thing I remember about this level, is that if you kept IG-88 pretty much confined to that train yard, you had a pretty good shot at winning. This level was so frustrating, though. It took me several tries before I finally nailed it.

  • January 12, 2015 at 2:19 pm

Hey, so I don’t know if this is a problem for everyone else, but whenever I full screen on the site, the ad on the bottom right of the video plays and the audio overpowers every video on the site. It would be awesome if that could be fixed i find i go to youtube or don’t fulscreen because of this.
anyways besides that i’m a big cinemassacre fan and love everything you guys do. Thanks so much and keep on keeping on!!

Thanks James and Mike for taking your time with this one.
I really love the N64. Came late to that console table, despite my age (which must even a little older than yours) and played Amiga when I was younger. So I got a little bit SNES and the whole N64 (dare I say fisako) experience.

You know I still like this game, including the snow speeder opening battle. But man, the controls for the third person scenes have not aged well at all.
I did a Let’s play of this a while ago, it was a little disappointing. But I still enjoy it.
    Thanks guys.

  • Jcr3ws

    January 15, 2015 at 10:48 pm

Good to see they’re both having a good time with this game. The train level is frustrating but interesting, the damn speeder level on the other hand is frustrating and uninteresting cant wait to see they’re reaction to it. James is totally right about old characters meeting the younger versions.

    • greedo

      January 16, 2015 at 9:21 pm

I can’t wait, either. As for the speeder level, that’s the one that kinda broke it for me. That one made me almost want to give up on the game.

  • Spottedfeather

    January 16, 2015 at 10:33 pm

Don’t know why the videos are all jerky and stuttery. They worked fine last week. Unfortunately, not all the videos are on the facebook page. Such as the old movies that James made and stuff like the same movie different format videos….Shame.

    • Spottedfeather

      January 16, 2015 at 10:42 pm

It’s all choppy on firefox, but seems to work on Chrome. Doesn’t work at all on Internet Explorer…which is alright. I only ever use IE to get firefox. Don’t know why the videos are choppy on firefox. the same format of videos work just fine on other website. I’m thinking that it’s something to do with the crappy new video player that Cinemassacre uses. The horrible ad edition flash player…stinks like all get out.

      • greedo

        January 17, 2015 at 3:20 pm

I have Firefox, and I do have problems with this on occasion, as well. When it does occur, I usually switch the resolution from HD. That usually solves the problem for me.

  • January 18, 2015 at 1:27 am

my god for Video game nerds, you guys sucks donkey balls at this

  • January 19, 2015 at 10:09 pm

We do appreciate you editing the videos, not only for length but for style as well. Why would we want to watch a speedrun when it is so much more satisfying to see you fail, (James) sweat, and high five when you succeed? I love how (James especially) gets that old school anxiety, as if you’ve never developed a tolerance for the drug.
I appreciate there is no β€œradar”. Would you have jumped into the poison (lol) or discovered the invincibility so late (lmao) otherwise? I also appreciate the multiple POVs. It was challenging not having a target reticle in 3rd person but they compensated with auto-aim, haha.
This was certainly a groundbreaking game when it was released: 3D, story, gameplay. Lots of variety in each category. They swung for the fences with this one.

  • January 25, 2015 at 4:13 pm

No wonder you are so angry at video games, you are really bad at playing them.
