(I know how much you “love” getting corrected in the comments Mike! Thanks for another interesting vid.)

Are you playing this on an actual cartridge?

    • Lodmot

      January 8, 2015 at 4:10 pm

Whoops, you show the cartridge in the video. My bad x.x

    • awesome video games

james and mike do not play on nes emulation. i have seen mike do so for game gear i believe but when it comes to nes, they use the actual hardware

mike has modded game gear, he can plug it into tv.

  • January 8, 2015 at 4:38 pm

Wow, this one actually looks like a lot of fun.

      January 8, 2015 at 5:57 pm

No offense, but why would someone go to another site to view a video that’s on the site they’re already on?

      • January 8, 2015 at 7:42 pm

no reason to … but there’s other content on my site … i break stories and i’ll be exposing the new Club Nintendo offering before Nintendo discloses them.

so, i assume there’s nintendo fans here … rather than just throwing a shout-out to my site i decided to make it legitimate by directing traffic from my site to this site … i think it’s fair! πŸ™‚

I think he wants to let Mike know.

        … yup

        January 9, 2015 at 5:12 pm

I realize you’re just doing a courtesy and informing the creator that you’re sharing their content, so sorry if I came across confrontational. So many people post links just to shamelessly promote and get people on their own site, but I see that you’re just spreading the word.

    Real nice. Nice in fact.

  • January 8, 2015 at 4:43 pm

There are no Lego Nintendo sets because Nintendo made a contract with K’Nex, which is Lego’s competidor.

    January 8, 2015 at 5:22 pm

Awesome video Mike, good to see these hack reviews again!

  • Skorpinox

    January 8, 2015 at 5:42 pm

I don’t know why you’re now calling them “mods”. The term mod is usually reserved for PC games where this kind of hacking is easier and generally encouraged. If it’s a console game, especially if it uses ROMs, then hack is generally the appropriate term. Yeah, I know I’m being pedantic, but I don’t really know where you get your misinformation from.

    • ToadRoad

      January 8, 2015 at 6:00 pm

Mod is shorthand to mean a modification to the published game, whether it be new maps, sprites, items, etc. That’s exactly what this is.

  • generalleoff

    January 8, 2015 at 5:47 pm

This mod was likely designed on an emulator and never tested on actual hardware. The bugs you encountered probably do not happen on the emulator used for development but once it was placed on a reproduction cart and played on a real NES the programing flaws became visible.

    • Glaeken

      January 8, 2015 at 6:21 pm

Still, you think the person who went through making this would do some basic QA like a playthrough on a real cart. Unless the person who is selling these didn’t make it and is just putting them on a cart for profit?

      • generalleoff

        January 9, 2015 at 6:55 am

The mod author and the repro cart manufacturer are probably not the same person.

  • Supaflyguy

    January 8, 2015 at 5:51 pm

Man, I would really play the crap out of that.

  • Glaeken

    January 8, 2015 at 6:20 pm

Mike – The “lego” stage is a nod to Super Mario Land 2 on Gameboy. Just thought you’d want to know since it didn’t seem you did.

  • Jokerisdaking

    January 8, 2015 at 8:16 pm

Where do you get these games? I’ve searched the Internet but can’t find them! Another gret video from Mr. Matei by the way.calways enjoy it when he does his own thing. Completely random thought but I wonder what he thinks of Skyrim?

I’d like one as well. Where are yall getting these?

  • ToadRoad

    January 9, 2015 at 5:18 pm

Played this for about 3 hours last night after discovering it here. It’s fun for sure. It doesn’t take long to reach the part where there’s too many enemies on screen. Nearly froze the game. I am also not thrilled about the music. I’m playing it on an emulator, so I’m hoping that resolves the world 6 glitch. So far, I realize I play it REALLY slowly compared to SMB3 because everything is unfamiliar.

  • January 9, 2015 at 6:10 pm

Please make more copies of the board james DVD.

    January 10, 2015 at 1:47 am

Mike, you really should play “Newer Super Mario Bros.” on the Wii. It’s the best Mario Hack/Mod I’ve ever played. I actually like it a lot better than the original “New Super Mario Bros. Wii”. I don’t even like to call it a “hack”…it feels so much like a brand new, officially released Mario game from Nintendo. You really need to check it out.

At least watch the trailer for it on YouTube. The game is honestly the best 2D Mario I’ve played since Super Mario World. It’s better than all the officially released entries in the “New” Super Mario Bros. series. No joke.

  • January 10, 2015 at 2:25 am

Hey guys, for some reason, only when using this video player on this page, I get a record skip about 33% of the way through your videos, all this happening with the last two months. Anyone else having this blip?

  • January 10, 2015 at 2:33 am

Mike, K’nex has Nintendo. I have some of the figures.

  • January 10, 2015 at 2:38 am

And furthermore, this is why I stick to the real deal πŸ™‚

Mike, I take it you’ve heard about Mario Maker coming to WiiU? Make your own Mario levels in SMB, SMB3, SMW or NSMBU style and share them with other people! What more could a human want! πŸ™‚

Mike, I was going to say that Baby Bowser’s debut was as the villain in Yoshi’s Island, but then learned that Baby Bowser and Bowser Jr. are in fact different characters. Weird!

  • January 10, 2015 at 12:38 pm

    This looks cool!

  • January 11, 2015 at 3:51 am

Looks nice! Especially with the incorperation of super mario world, played that game so many times on my super snes, still have my original copy πŸ™‚

  • psyonikx

    January 11, 2015 at 12:39 pm

Really like it. The Modder made a very familiar, yet very unique game out of really fun games. My question is, is this available with an NES emulator?… or any other possible way of playing on PC.

Shifting gears now… Mike, the Mario-Lego project has most likely not occurred due to copy-rights, but then again, you probably knew that, but still wanted to strike up the conversation. I think it’s a brilliant idea, and I say make it happen. This is coming from a person that has never played any of the LEGO franchise games (Batman, India Jones, etc.), but from how popular they’ve become, I’ve been finding them kind of intriguing.

Could you please review/play 1001 Spikes? It’s one of the hardest old school platformers out there. It’s one of my favorite games from 2014.
