Couldn’t stay away from this one, could you? 😛

Could the big box be…the LJN Video Art Console?! Cowa-piece-of-fuckin-dog-shit!

  • December 21, 2014 at 3:03 am

    oh no

    • awesome video games

      December 21, 2014 at 1:43 pm

the last game is good. reminds me of BURNING RANGERS on the sega saturn but of course this mini game is not as great

  • Asshat331

    December 21, 2014 at 3:03 am

yeah i loved the other vid you did on this game, cant belief i wanted this game so bad back in the day thanks to nintendo power thank god i never got it!

    • Asshat331

      December 21, 2014 at 3:06 am

i remember now timesplitters 2 was the game i got instead oh man what a good choice i loved that game, used to love doing the objective style matches to unlock characters.

  • December 21, 2014 at 3:12 am

    Great show again

  • December 21, 2014 at 3:13 am

Well this is a bit of a letdown. You guys already did this game on an episode of James and Mike Mondays. What else is there to say about it? Whatever. 12 nerd episodes in 12 days. I ain’t complaining.

    • December 21, 2014 at 3:22 am

      The ending is great though!

    • December 21, 2014 at 9:11 am

“I ain’t complaining” – dude, you are literally complaining.

      • December 21, 2014 at 6:24 pm

Well, I’m trying not to since he’s given us so much.

      • December 21, 2014 at 6:34 pm

Look at it like this: I complained because let’s face it, this video is rehash for people who watch the other series besides Nerd. Then I thought about how much product he puts out so I decided that it is not really worth complaining about further.

    • awesome video games

      December 21, 2014 at 1:47 pm

this one is a good summary. yes it’s a james and mike mondays rehash but avgn doing it spices up the best and worst parts of the game to the point instead of making the video a see-through

  • Behemoth

    December 21, 2014 at 3:14 am

I was hoping for a nerd rant on the controls of the PS1 game In Cold Blood, I wonder hat in the box?

  • fcabanski

    December 21, 2014 at 3:19 am

I thought this was Shitsmas. When he revealed the LJN logo, it was suddenly more like something that belonged at Halloween. It will give me nightmares.

  • Yoyo

    December 21, 2014 at 3:19 am

Ugh. I was a poor shmuck that rented this. $3 wasted. I was so disappointed, I thought it was going to be an awesome colab of different Universal classics in theme-park style. Nope.

  • Tross

    December 21, 2014 at 3:24 am

James, when you and Mike played this game, I thought it was a missed opportunity for a Nerd episode, but I can’t say that anymore.

  • windrammingroadkillskunk

    December 21, 2014 at 3:25 am

The big box contains the LJN Video Art console. I’m more interested in what was under the box at 11:10.

  • Ben_from_G-town

    December 21, 2014 at 5:10 am

Nice, you still did a review of this one, even though you guys already did a J&M Play on it. You also covered the rest of the rides! Yeah, it’s really unfortunate how they squandered a great opportunity here to make something great with all these properties. There was some great jokes in this too. “You’d have better luck timing jerking off onto a passing car!” 😀

    • Ben_from_G-town

      December 21, 2014 at 5:11 am

Also, a box that big, made by LJN? An LJN console?!

  • December 21, 2014 at 5:11 am

i love this guy, can’t get enough

  • avgnfanfckballs

    December 21, 2014 at 5:43 am

why did you recycle an idea from mike mondays? did you even capture new footage to use in this video? seems like a cop out James. come on. this game is so uninteresting. seeing it again makes me want to vomit. i am anticipating now more than ever you unwrapping the last big box.

    • commonlegacy

      December 21, 2014 at 11:38 pm

yes, they never did all the games on j&m monday. besides he’s releasing over an hour of avgn in 12 days, so calm your tits and show some respect. if you’re a real fan, you wouldn’t insult james like that.

      • commonlegacy

        December 22, 2014 at 1:19 am

A real fan can give criticism without being disrespectful.

      • commonlegacy

        December 22, 2014 at 1:28 am

actually, going back and reading his comment again, he wasn’t really being disrespectful. but come on, over an hour of Avgn over the span of twelve days was most likely a big project, so reusing previously recorded footage can excused. and i don’t peruse the comments often enough to know trends in what people say.

  • December 21, 2014 at 6:03 am

Perfect finish to this video. I burst out laughing.

  • ToadRoad

    December 21, 2014 at 6:07 am

Even though you already addressed all these flaws, this was funny and had a great ending.

  • December 21, 2014 at 6:26 am

The game sucks so much, I’m glad to see to done justice. Can’t wait for Day 12.

  • Peter Tomlinson

    December 21, 2014 at 6:31 am

I’m glad that you reviewed this game as the nerd, part of me was afraid you wouldn’t do nerd episodes with games featured on J&MM.

  • December 21, 2014 at 7:15 am

    Waterworld movie rules

  • December 21, 2014 at 8:51 am

Can’t believe it’s almost over. Looking forward to tomorrow’s video. 🙂

  • Pablo1989

    December 21, 2014 at 10:13 am

😀 Oh my gosh! just cant wait next day

  • The Formless One

    December 21, 2014 at 10:20 am

Didn’t we already have that one in James & Mike Mondays?

  • Mike E

    December 21, 2014 at 11:00 am

Since you already did James & Mike on this…

I got an idea how you can do all your shows on one topic: J&M should play Mario Party Advance for the GBA. It came with a paper board game (meaning you had to actually get your own tokens and move them across the board yourself), which is the only multiplayer mode in the game, so Board James can review it. Then have the AVGN review it (since this one doesn’t even count as a real Mario Party, that board game was the only thing that wasn’t literally a minigame-marathon). So then the Bullshit Man can then tell us what a terrible idea it was. 😛

    • wolfpacleader1986

      December 21, 2014 at 11:03 am

Don’t you mean, Mario Party e for the e-Reader? I think that’s the only one that came with an actually board. Good idea, though. Another case of having to own an add-on to play a game.

      • Mike E

        December 21, 2014 at 11:23 am

        Definitely MPA had a board.
I think it had a challenge mode where you could pass a GBA around for a high-score contest on a single minigame.
I recall it supported up to a HUNDRED players. That alone could be worth seeing: since the Nerd cloned himself in Nightmare on Elm Street, it would be awesome to see 100 Nerds playing a single game.
(I believe the game with the next most-excessive offline multiplayer mode was Faceball 2000 for the Game Boy, said to support up to 16 players by chaining 4-player cables together, I’d guess. I’ve only heard of it.)

  • wolfpacleader1986

    December 21, 2014 at 11:01 am

Oh man, I KNEW it was eventually going to come to that Art console. I think almost every kid in the late 80’s had that shit, especially after it went on clearance.

Personally, I’d love to see him to an episode on the WWF games for the NES. More LJN “classics”….

  • kenny jones

    December 21, 2014 at 11:40 am

damn nerd why couldn’t you be around when i was like 12 yrs. lol. you would have made me appreciate getting clothes and sweaters from family members rather than shitty games

  • Warrie

    December 21, 2014 at 11:41 am

God knows what lies in that box, but since it’s LJN it must be a cowa-fucking-piece-of-dog-shit coming out of a hippo’s arse which is starting to muckspread.

  • December 21, 2014 at 12:46 pm

I thought that last present would be way bigger than it was. 😛 Still, knowing LJN is behind it is going to make for a great finale. Can’t Wait. 😀

  • December 21, 2014 at 1:12 pm

Yes! This game had to be covered by the Nerd!
Haven´t heard of a LJN-Product this huge, so I´m not gonna spoil myself and keep the fun for the next episode!
Man, this is gonna be serious shit, so I really hope it´ll be longer video too!

  • mike king

    December 21, 2014 at 2:36 pm

Guys.. IM calling it right now. The last box is not the LJN video art console..Not alot of people know this, but LJN also made board games. As we all know James is a big Indiana Jones fan. LJN made a Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom board game. From the peek that we got, thats what im saying it is. The color of the box looks right too. I guess we will have to wait till tomorrow to see if im right or not…PS MORE BOARD JAMES!!!!

    • Jcr3ws

      December 21, 2014 at 5:59 pm

That would be awesome if it was that, but its definitely the Video Art Console. Maybe when board james goes to prison an anonymous person sends him the temple of doom board game.

    • December 22, 2014 at 10:58 am

But the box art you can see in the corner exactly matches the video art console. So the only way it isn’t is if James intentionally disguised it with the video art box.

      • mike king

        December 22, 2014 at 4:34 pm

your right i looked again ..and it is the ljn video art..im dumb…lol

  • December 21, 2014 at 3:06 pm

Another great S**tsmas episode. I notice that Kemco also makes awfully bad games as well, which makes them more or less worse than LJN. Kemco games received some of the lowest scores on Metacritic such as Daikatana 64, Catwoman on Game Boy Color, Batman: Dark Tomorrow and of course, Universal Studios Theme Parks Adventure.

You should do an episode about Kemco someday, Nerd.

    • FJMcCloud

      December 21, 2014 at 7:00 pm

Maybe so, but Kemco, sometimes under the guise of Kemco-Seika, released a bunch of GREAT games in the past, too. Such as Shadowgate, The Uninvited, Deja Vu. And even a strange, quirky low budget game on the NES that very few remember, but somehow people remember LIKING — Spy vs Spy. It’s not a game you’ll treasure like SMB or Mega Man, and its graphics and music are repetitive as heck, but the concept behind it is enjoyable. It made a good rental game for 2 people to enjoy.

Sometimes those obscure companies that never rose to the levels of Capcom or Konami (such as Vic Tokai, Jaleco) could still come up with or at least publish great games from time to time (Mafat Conspiracy, Maniac Mansion).

Now waiting for the colorful evil.

  • Internoob

    December 21, 2014 at 5:59 pm

Is it sad that I’m looking more forward to tomorrow than I am Christmas? lol.

  • Weldin Dunn

    December 21, 2014 at 6:34 pm

Awesome. You did this for J&MM, but I’m not complaining. Can’t wait for tomorrow.

  • December 21, 2014 at 6:45 pm

Because Mike is the one who uploaded it to the site.

  • teenagewildlife

    December 21, 2014 at 6:54 pm

    wat were they thinking!!!

  • iris1991

    December 21, 2014 at 10:16 pm

you know, its possible it has something to do with the disney ceo tradition of picking up garbage when you visit the theme park. I remember reading in Disneywar that it’s a tradition for the CEO to pick up any and all garbage when they visit the park because ‘it was walt would do’ lol. maybe they do the same thing at universal theme park?

  • iris1991

    December 21, 2014 at 10:25 pm

oh and its that awful ljn colouring machine tomorrow

  • Jonah Chapman

    December 22, 2014 at 12:43 am

Well thats kind of a letdown, You guys already did this on an episode of James and mike mondays. Don’t really know whats left to say about this game that wasn’t already said in the last episode. And I could be wrong but I think some of this footage is reused from the previous episode. I think my only complaint would be the episode is 12mins long. I woulda rather had a 12min episode on one of the other 12 days of christmas ones that were more interesting. But appreciate you doing these nerd episodes keep up the good work. Just my 2 cents

  • December 22, 2014 at 12:53 am

Stamp books, stupid hats, picking up trash… It’s Universal Studios Japan. All that shit is textbook Japan. USJ opened in 2001.

  • psyonikx

    December 22, 2014 at 1:09 am

I went to Universal Studios about 20 years ago, and it was one hell of a shitty amusement park. The ‘rides’ aren’t even really rides, they’re just boring ass recreations of scenes from the movies. Back to The Future is ok, Jaws, King Kong, and Backdraft are just pure shit. Also, Jurassic Park was being built at the time, so there really wasn’t much going on within the park.

  • likalaruku

    December 22, 2014 at 2:56 am

Deja vu! Didn’t you review this a year or two ago?

  • December 22, 2014 at 5:09 am

goblins and gnomes………had to i mean cmon right love site get money.

  • gluserty

    December 22, 2014 at 6:03 am

What a dud of a game, it really looks like a complete waste of time and hardly any fun at all. Fun review though!

  • zefish85 zefish85

    December 22, 2014 at 6:47 am

Yeah what you said about the LJN Indiana board game could be true. Other than monster madness, James came back from the movie with a string of Bullshit Man, then AVGN episodes, then that could lead into a string of Board James episodes. Makes sense, but who knows…till the last christmas episode.

  • December 22, 2014 at 10:10 am

Kinda weird to see The Nerd playing a game that James and Mike already played. Oh god, my immersion.

  • frostare

    December 22, 2014 at 11:19 am

Oh, I know! I know! It’s a board game! This just occured to me in the morning.

  • December 22, 2014 at 11:27 am

I think I enjoyed the james and mike let’s play of this more. Anyways what’s going on with the james and mike let’s play that was up there this morning? I wanted to watch it… )-:

  • December 22, 2014 at 11:37 am

Nerd… how wrong can you get? The set wasn’t destroyed, it was saved and put elsewhere. And the stage was pulled down because the Transformer ride next door was too noisy and it made the existing stage useless. Harry Potter is on the other side of the park and has nothing to do with it. The things that got ripped out for Harry Potter were the Gibson Ampitheater, the Waterworld attraction and Shrek 4D.

    • December 22, 2014 at 11:43 am

oh, and a s note, only Jurassic Park and the Jaws set still exist. Backdraft in the park is now Transformers, Waterworld will be Harry Potter, and BTTF is now The Simpsons.

  • Brandon Hamilton

    December 22, 2014 at 1:50 pm

Funny, a few days ago I was watching James and Mike Mondays on this game.

  • Shane Bungay

    December 23, 2014 at 2:04 pm

The part about the original Phantom set is sad but true. I went to Universal Studios Orlando last March and I spent the entire day looking for the “good” stuff – the classic monster stuff and all that… Its all Harry Potter, Transformers and Marvel now. I found a bunch of classic monster movie posters in a dark hallway in the back of a gift shop. They even parked the Delorean in an obscure corner in the back… The only saving grace was Simpsons land (WHICH WAS AWESOME!)… Its a sad world we live in where someone would rather see a Hogwarts display than a Universal Monster display….Fucking kids.

  • December 24, 2014 at 3:50 pm

Other games with quote on quote fixed or bad camera systems like this game: RESIDENT EVIL 1-3/CV; GALLARIANS 1,2; DINO CRISIS 1-3; FEAR EFFECT 1,2, PARASITE EVE 1,2; FINAL FANTASY 7-current. I played alot of these games and yeah at times the whole camera system can be stupid but I guess I tollerate annoying things way to easily.

  • shepd

    December 25, 2014 at 10:06 am

The only time I went to universal studios florida was the late summer of 1990. The place was so terrible they were handing out free vouchers to come back and try them again (good luck when you drove 2 days to visit). About 5 rides working (more broken or being built) and lineups for each one of several hours.

I might have actually enjoyed it if I could have traded the searing heat of waiting outside in the world’s most non-interactive lines for picking up trash and wearing stupid hats for instant access.

Yes, I’m aware it’s actually a fun park now. But anyone who visited that year can agree with me, your neighbourhood midway had more to offer than Universal Studios Florida in 1990.

  • Neil Merritt

    December 25, 2014 at 6:16 pm

after this I have a suggestion for an AVGN, u finally done ET on Atari 2600, You played the ride on Universal on Gamecube, now its time for you to play ET on Sony Playstation xD

  • December 26, 2014 at 8:55 am

As you said it man this was a porr excuse to advertise their allready famous park with the wrong way.

  • December 26, 2014 at 8:56 am

I wanted to say poor sorry.

  • January 4, 2015 at 11:25 am

Universal Studdios is surely making bad advertise for their theme park. I wouldn’t pay the entrance fee just to pick up trash. The fixed camera angles btw reminds me of the early Resident Evil games. But I liked it. It made them creepier.

  • skwij

Some of these franchises must be destined to never have a good game… Thanks!

Where can I find a track of this instrumental music for the 12 days of Christmas? It sounds good.

  • Aaron1375

    March 17, 2015 at 5:36 pm

Yeah, I remember this one from James and Mike Mondays. Not a game I want to dial up any time soon. Nice to see you do such a varied assortment of games for your Xmas special. Sad I missed it.

Notice the kemco logo at 0:23. The company that developed superman and roger rabbit on the NES.

  • July 1, 2015 at 10:43 pm

I only play this game for BTTF: The Ride.
