You Know What’s Bullshit!? – Hotel Rooms

You Know What’s Bullshit!? – Hotel Rooms – Episode 27

The bullshit is back for another 6 episodes!
Special thanks to Bill for the new animated intro.

This time, the Bullshit Man rants about hotel rooms. This episode was probably shot in more different US states than any other episode.

New Bullshit episode? Awesome!!! Intro animation is pretty good. Good work Bullshit Man.

    • November 13, 2014 at 4:53 am

Back to the basics! Great! I would only suggest to get rid of the mask and the on screen appearance. The off screen voice was more than enough from the beginning. And its not that i hate the mask, in fact it gives me a laughter every time I see it, its just that with that on, your voice gets harder to hear.

Yeah, I had that same though in mind. I figured it’s probably too heavy or there’s too much stuff around it, a big cluster of shit.

  • November 12, 2014 at 9:03 am

Ohw my lord, it’s more bullshit!!

    What a load of crap.

I have finally register here (and take a silly nickname) after yeaaaaars of lurking: excellent episode! And the intro animation is really great & original! Greetings from France ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • November 12, 2014 at 10:50 am

This is so true but it does seem to be quite American. In the UK we have the stairs right by the elevator and they are normally quite nice, carpeted, and fancy (depending on the hotel of course).
The light is always inside but usually a big waterproof type.

On a recent holiday to San Francisco I found all the things in this video to be pervasive. The stairs really are hidden away, often far from the elevators like some kind of conspiracy to prevent anyone getting any exercise!

  • November 12, 2014 at 10:57 am

Our lightswitches here in Bulgaria are mostly outside…

    Nah just kidding THAT’S BULLSHIT!

  • TheKingDuke

    November 12, 2014 at 11:32 am

And you what else is BULLSHIT beside the door, the light switches and the stairs? The robe on the wall if go on the stairs or off the stairs. It’s so ingenius and dangerous as well. I had that in a Italy hotel and it sucks. One last thing, there’s no swimming pool. That’s bullshit.

    November 12, 2014 at 11:48 am

Lightswitches outside the bathroom are even more common here in Finland, espcially in appartment that were build around 70’s to late 80’s.

  • Xen11

    November 12, 2014 at 11:50 am

    Meat

Meat is bullshit. Why is it in everything?

  • November 12, 2014 at 12:13 pm

    Okay:

I moved 7 times in the last 10 years, and I NEVER had a bathoroom where the light switch was inside.
And I also never hat any problems with that.
Maybe things are different over in America, but for me, it’s normal.
Why would I want to turn on the light after I entered a dark room and searched the walls for it ?
The light switch is next to the door handle,
so I can make the room bright before entering.
When I’m done, I close the door and turn of the light.

That makes sense for individual spaces, but his point about shared spaces ring true. There’s a computer lab at the school I work at, but the lights are in the office next door. EVERY time someone leaves they turn the lights off and you either have to shout to them to turn them back on, or you have to get p and turn them back on every time it happens.

  • November 12, 2014 at 12:34 pm

    100% approval!
Great new logo, by the way!

  • November 12, 2014 at 12:41 pm

a sliding door and an oddly placed light switch? Thats not that bad, but that shit with the stairs,People want to call the department of homeland fucking security when you ask about anything regarding stairs, next time try “I’ve got a gang of whores on there way,and you probably don’t want using the elevator, so where are the stairs?”

  • aidan752

    November 12, 2014 at 12:45 pm

I stayed in a hotel room in Paris where there were mirrors and reflective surfaces everywhere. It was really creepy and I kept thinking that some of them were those two way mirrors with glass on the other side.

    November 12, 2014 at 1:10 pm

Missed a slew of stuff here:
    – access cards that don’t work half the time, especially in the elevator
    – having to use your damn card to use the elevator
    – ultra thin toilet paper
    – never enough towels
    – …or mini-soap
    – no trash can liners
    – no trash cans in some cases
    – trash cans that are ridiculously small
    – no fridge
    – mini-bar (if available) has every kind of beverage, except water
    – internet that forces you to re-register every day
    – ridiculously pricey room service
    – unbelievably high laundry service ($3.00 for a pair of underwear)
    – tv bolted to wall – makes hard to hook up consoles …and what do they think we’re going to do – walk out with a fucking 36″ flat screen tucked down our pants?
    – not nearly enough sound proofing. It’s always nice to hear someone’s phone conversation in the next room or the doors in the hallway slamming every five minutes. Speaking of which…
    – MUFFLE THE DOORS so they don’t slam when they close.

…I realize not all may apply. I also realize I’m an anal retentive prick.

    But it’s still bullshit ๐Ÿ™‚

    • ToadRoad

      November 12, 2014 at 7:15 pm

Echoing “Tv Bolted To Wall.” Certain chains like Hotel 6 have no RCA inputs on their TVs, so I had to use a box that converts the coaxial signal from the cable input into RCA just to use my console. If I didn’t own that box, I’d be SOL.

the bathroom in my grandmother’s house has that “Light switch on the outside of the door” thing too….I always assumed it was because the house was built in like the 40s or something…

    I missed the bullshit series

  • November 12, 2014 at 2:44 pm

The door in the beginning of the video looks like the door that was in my hotel room at SGC Dallas at the Hyatt. I was thinking the same thing about the door in my room when I was at SGC.

  • November 12, 2014 at 2:50 pm

Ah, it’s good to see Bullshit Man back on the job of ranting about the annoying aspects of everyday life I can relate to – especially the part about the light switch, I’ve known at least two different houses, not even hotels, with that problem.

    November 12, 2014 at 4:14 pm

I agree the door latch thing is weird, my Mom’s house has a latch like that on her bathroom door! I have never seen elusive stairs like that though. In most hotels I’ve been in the stairs are easy to find and well maintained. You do need ’em for fire safety as you said.

    • fcabanski

      November 12, 2014 at 6:53 pm

I’ve been in stairways in hotels, office buildings, hospitals etc. that are elusive and poorly maintained. As I mentioned in another comment, I’ve found stairs, like the ones James showed, in new buildings. It’s as if they built the building around an ancient, crumbling stairway.

  • Goro3d

    November 12, 2014 at 5:34 pm

Way to go James you right on cue with this hotel stuff lol :)!
Great new episode and all :)!
    Thanks James :)!

Scraping the barrel here james. No need to make quick content to keep us interested. Looking forward to your movie being released on DVD though

I think James needs to listen to Jim Florentine’s rant on hotel rooms.

  • fcabanski

    November 12, 2014 at 6:50 pm

The worst part about the stairs is they look that way even when the building is brand new. At Minutemaid park (baseball) I have a choice to get down to the field from the press box. I can take an elevator down two floors. It’s the world’s slowest elevator. It takes 2 minutes to get down two floors. Or I can take the stairs down to the concourse, then walk into the stands to walk down to field level, then climb over the wall onto the field. Security gathers around to see why someone is climbing onto the field. Then they see it’s me. That is so ridiculous I just end up waiting for the slow elevator. It’s…horse hockey.

Hotels are full of bullshit, you got all the stuff you just covered here, as well as the hotel TVs (you already talked about them) and hotel phones, and the fucking ice machine…I could go on, but you get the idea. Hotels really truly are bullshit.

  • November 12, 2014 at 7:43 pm

Traffic Lights! Bilingual Keyboards! Late Buses! These are all subjects I hope will be covered in Bullshit.

  • November 12, 2014 at 9:00 pm

Wow, i can’t believe after all this time you finally do a new YKWB episode !
I thought you gave up on this. Glad to see it back !
The stairs part is so true, what are they going to become obsolete and not even be constructed in future hotels ?

  • Patrick Cole

    November 12, 2014 at 9:54 pm

Wow, love it cause it’s so true! I had to stay in many hotels last year and I could not agree more.
The worst are those stupid televisions where you can’t plug anything, but I guess it’s already been mentionned in a previous episode :p

  • Excruciate

    November 13, 2014 at 1:12 am

dont forget the unknown bodily fluids/parts all over. unknown unless you take a blacklight. like scab juice and cum all over the beds and floors.

  • November 13, 2014 at 2:31 am

Good to see somemore Bullshit episodes. ๐Ÿ™‚

Light switches in Germany are usually found on the outside as well, maybe the hotel was trying to cater a bit to the European crowd.

  • November 13, 2014 at 3:11 am

In our country light-switches are always outside and composed of three switches: kitchen, toilet and bathroom.

  • Tross

    November 13, 2014 at 3:19 am

This is probably the only place where I would say that I’m glad there’s more Bullshit. I take it you’ve never been to a house that has the light switch outside the bathroom James. It’s not just hotels that have that. Also, which hotels have you been to? I’ve never seen a hotel with that crazy door lock contraption, or stairs that look like they belong in a horror film.

  • AndrewDiceGay

    November 13, 2014 at 9:24 am

I like the part about glory holes.

  • Kent Gissing

    November 13, 2014 at 3:19 pm

lol, that door looked like some high-tech lab door. ^^ .. btw, those lightswitches on the outside…. my god! .. they are in every cabin on the ferries going across the baltic sea and if you are on a weekend cruise and decide to take a shit and your roomie comes in piss-drunk and accidentally hits the switch…. man, that has enraged me so many times! XD

  • Larry Hood

    November 13, 2014 at 6:53 pm

    lol. the shit bath

  • November 13, 2014 at 8:50 pm

You know, there is a very good logical explanation as to why the light switch is outside the bathroom. If on the inside, there is a risk that you accidentally spray water on the switch and something shorts, and a risk of electrocution. Insulation? Nah, too expensive, just like maintaining those stairs no one ever uses. Cut some costs, keep the hotel prices high, and gain extra income. Hotel-Ass in a nutshell. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • taykel

    November 13, 2014 at 9:31 pm

You Know What’s Bullshit? Nobody answers the goddamn phone anymore. Texting is so impersonal, and if you’re stuck in the stone like me and use a flip-phone it’s a royal pain in the ass. It takes forever to type a simple message because my phone is not a keyboard, it’s a PHONE, made to make and receive calls. It costs me a minute of talk time for every text sent or received, when I could have just taken care the conversation easily in a 1 minute phone call. I know some of you might say that I should get with the times, but smarts phones with data plans are expensive. Hell even my grandma doesn’t answer the phone anymore, she just sent me texts that half the time they’re so cryptic I can’t even read them. Then I’ll see people using smart phones and the screens all fucked up and cracked. I have left my flip-phone out in the rain and snow and it still works. But that’s beside the point, answer the phone or call me back! If I leave you a voice message I am implying that you should call me back, not TEXT me! Is everybody just afraid to talk on the phone now? I don’t know but it’s BULLSHIT!

  • blublu

    November 14, 2014 at 3:22 pm

You could probably write a whole friggin’ book about the bullshit found in hotel rooms. The power switches being outside the bathroom is common in older buildings though. My grandparents’ apartment was like that.

    November 15, 2014 at 11:22 am

Whats really bullshit is the coffee maker being in the bathroom. Gross!

  • November 16, 2014 at 12:19 pm

The hotel phenomenon isn’t just restricted to US hotels, it’s spread over to Europe, too – I went to a hotel in Germany last summer (the Saint Paul hotel in Munich) and the light switch was in the toilet.

This was a good episode. I also think raking and bagging up leaves would make a good You Know What’s Bullshit? It is repetitive and feels like it never stops or ends. Thank you. I also posted this idea on the Word Pronunciations episode. Hopefully this will be an idea you guys will see.

    My family recently moved and you guessed it; the bathroom light switch is outside the bathroom ;-;

    January 15, 2015 at 5:18 pm

Loving that there are new YKWBS episodes again. But there’s something I need to say.

Unlike most, I have to say I love the bullshit mask. It cracks me up. What I don’t like is that in these newer episodes, the Bullshit Man personality seems to have gone away. You know how James always bugged his eyes out and talked in that funny voice whenever you saw the Bullshit Man onscreen? Seems like he isn’t doing that anymore.

The background is obviously a hotel room (and, well, he did the whole episode on hotel rooms) so I’m guessing he filmed these quickly while on tour with the movie. Hopefully when the “serious” ones start up again he’ll bring the personality back into it.

  • January 17, 2015 at 1:44 pm

Here in Europe, it’s normal that the light switch is outside of the bathroom.

  • shepd

    February 13, 2015 at 4:45 pm

I know it’s annoying, but the reason the switch is on the outside of that bathroom is because putting it within reach of the bathtub/shower is a safety hazard (and illegal in many places). That means if there’s no convenient wall at least 3 feet away from the tub, it has to be outside.

That bathroom was really compact, so definitely the only other legal place is above the toilet or behind the door, which would just be really odd.

In some countries, especially those with 220v power, switches aren’t allowed at all in the bathroom, and sometimes outlets aren’t if they aren’t lower voltage/lower current shaver outlets.
