NES Marathon for charity

James / November 7th, 2014

Good luck to Pat the NES Punk, to survive another NES marathon, this weekend. It’s an annual charity event for children’s hospitals.Β Β This will be the 5th year that the Angry Video Game Nerd will stop by, for an exclusive mini-review. It will only be seen streaming live during the marathon. Past years, the AVGN video was Golgo 13, River City Ransom, SkyKid, and Bubble Bobble. What will it be this year?

I’ll try to be there. I enjoy his marathons. He’s a very likeable guy. Will probably donate some too πŸ™‚

Actually, I feel the opposite…Pat seems nice sometimes, but most of the time, he seems like a pompous, elitist douche…

What a moronic thing to say. Is Pat flakey and quirky? Yeah, that’s part of his charm, but elitist douche? Yeah, I’m gonna have to say you’re an idiot.

He’s got a very different review style than James but I like it that way, they are not at all similar. And I appreciate that Pat can be funny without dropping F bombs every other word. James and Pat are funny in different ways.

My stance on Pat has nothing to do with his reviews…I enjoy his reviews and I feel he is at his best during the reviews…I’m pointing out that his douchiness really comes off during his podcast with Ian…something just rubs me the wrong way with Podcast Pat as opposed to Review Pat…

Y2, I know exactly what you mean and agree with your last comment, especially. I really enjoy his reviews as well, but in his podcasts he does come off kinda arrogant and smug at times. Also very passive aggressive in his approach. I noticed it in one of the commentaries he did with James on one of the nerd videos. A lot of awkward, somewhat tension filled comments from Pat. His podcast on Justin Carmichael’s passing, also came off douchey. Lol, I know I seem like I’m completely bashing the guy and I really don’t mean any disrespect, but that’s what I noticed. I’m aware he’s not like this most of the time.

Actually it is you who sounds like a complete douche.

Hey, asshole. Have you ever met Pat? I have, and he was THE nicest, coolest dude in the entire fucking room. Loves his fans, and goes out of his way to interact with them. Sounds to me like you’re just a jealous little child that waah waahs because you can’t afford an awesome collection like his.

Anyone who’s watched all of Pat’s Podcasts would probably agree that’s he’s kind of an asshole. “Review Pat” seems like a really nice and friendly guy — but the real Pat seems a bit ways arrogant, annoyed, overly confident, and maybe even childish too.

Granted I’ve never seen his podcasts but Flea Market Madness and his reviews are all great and he seems like a sweet guy.

Also I consider the James Pat AVGN Nintendo World Championships episode to be the best one either of them have ever made.

I think I know what you mean. In his podcasts soemtimes he does seem different sometimes. Like when he talks about James, he seems to be very proud and achieved that he’d worked with him. But in a bit extreme way. But otherwise he really does seem nice, I think.

      • November 8, 2014 at 6:51 pm

Pat isn’t douchie, he just isn’t one of these guys that believes in this whole “in my opinion” nonsense. I appreciate that as some things just are… it has nothing to do with opinions.

The only problem is when he’s wrong it makes him come of as foolish. Like his stance on repro-carts, or Mortal Kombat.

    πŸ™‚ good for you, man.

  • November 7, 2014 at 7:32 pm

Seriously! The man is raising money for charity and you all are talking about Pat’s personality and internet show!!! James is out here promoting his cause, unbiased, not THE NERD, just James. So a little respect would actually be pretty cool. Take care everyone. nicholas

Wish I could live stream with you guys but I’m rooting from the sidelines. Hope it goes well!

How about? THE DISNEY GAMES on the NES.

Why is Pat’s personality coming under such scrutiny? A lot of popular internet reviewers come across as either being dickish or having severe flaws in their character. Angry Joe is a flip-flopper and a social panderer, NC injects way too much liberal guilt into his work, and Spoony is probably the most notoriously unpleasable and misguidedly arrogant to ever work for TGWTG. They’re still funny to watch and make good points in their reviews, and generally seem nice in person. It’s all relative, if someone’s getting criticised for being a bit snobbish then I’d say that person’s ok overall compared to the inhuman evil that exists the world over.

Besides, it’s for a good cause. You don’t have to contribute to it but criticising it just seems beyond cold.

On a Nerd-related note, I’d like to see another Re-Revisited episode down the line as there are still quite a few games reviewed that I stll think could have been shown in more depth, like showing us the ending to McKids and playing more of Silver Surfer.

Did anyone watch it? What game was it? i couldnt find it in the past broadcasts section of the twitch channel :<

    • November 9, 2014 at 8:58 pm

Watched what I could, slept, watched a little more, and they went 27 hours, maybe a little more, raising over $20,000! Just WOW, don’t know how they do it, but a HUGE congrats to both Pat & Ian!

Oh, the mini-avgn game review was “Adventure Island (NES)”, and it was quite hilarious. πŸ™‚

Out of curiosity, does James have as much problems getting his NES games to work as Pat did in the marathon? (He was having quite a few issues with almost every game!)

I’m a little late responding to this but personally I don’t care how James, Mike, Pat, or Doug are outside their characters. They’re human just like the rest of us and we all have traits that will piss someone else off so we can’t please everyone. I enjoy the nerd, MFer Mike, the Punk, and the Critic with respect for them for their personal opinions outside their characters as well. πŸ˜‰
