That’s how I feel about the end of Monster Madness…it’s a very bittersweet feeling… I love the month of October so much, but it’s kinda heartbreaking to see it finally come to an end…

Thanks for all the reviews James. I hope you make Monster Madness a Cinemassacre tradition for even more years to come!

this movie is still not available in France!

hopefully there’s a French version on the US blu-ray thank god.

    • October 31, 2014 at 6:07 pm

I looked on amazon..there is french language listed.. but if you typed your comment out on English then you understand English so just watch the movie in English not french

    • November 1, 2014 at 12:41 am

There is indeed a French language track on the North American Bluray, a QuΓ©bec French version actually. But it’s QuΓ©bec voice actors speaking in an international standard French rather than with thick accents.

I really enjoyed this year’s Monster Madness–mainly because you went out of order, making it harder to guess what movie you were going to review, let alone the decade in which it was made.

    Happy Halloween, Cinemassacre.

  • October 31, 2014 at 10:50 am

Great Monster Madness Cinemassacre! Trick ‘R Treat is a great film to finish on. I wish there were more anthology films like this. Hopefully you get to review the ABCs of Death next year as it’s a pretty ambitious anthology film.

Thanks again and Happy Halloween everyone! Here’s some fun Halloween art I made:

I just saw Trick r’ Treat last week. Someone told me I should see it because I’m a huge fan of Creepshow. While I didn’t feel that this movie held up to Creepshow, I did enjoy it quite a bit. Sam is an excellent character, and I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing more Trick r’ Treat movies following the same anthology concept, particularly with Sam as the connecting character.

Thank you so much yet again, James. Every year, you do an excellent string of horror movie reviews, and this year did not disappoint at all. I actually learned about more movies I hadn’t heard of this year than with any of the previous Monster Madness series. Keep up the great work!

  • NCfanboy1

    October 31, 2014 at 2:08 pm

I personally hate this movie. Sure the setting is great, but the thing I hated were the plot twists. I know plot twists are supposed to throw me off, but Trick ‘r Treat was doing it for the wrong reasons.

I mean Sam was going to kill the old guy until he gave him candy, when I saw that I was like “Are you f***ing serious!?” Way to get him into the holiday spirit by scaring him for life which by logic would’ve made him hate Halloween even more… dick!

I think the only parts I legitimately liked were the back story of the kids on the bus, and the twist on the old man was pretty clever.

Otherwise I think this film is overrated.

  • October 31, 2014 at 2:18 pm

Great timing! The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Richardson, Tx where I live is screening this at 7pm tonight. I shall go see it. Great review

  • October 31, 2014 at 2:36 pm

That ‘John Carpenter look alike’ is fellow Scot and original Hannibal Lector actor Brian Cox.

  • Larry Hood

    October 31, 2014 at 2:48 pm

I just wanted to thank you guys for putting on Monster Madness again this year. I’m hoping it’s something that continues on. Logging on to see what the next video is gives me the feeling of sitting around an old radio waiting for an oval-tine secret code.

As far as movies that are strictly about Halloween I can think of two favorites that haven’t been covered yet. Hocus Pokus and The Halloween Tree. The later actually has a lot o satanic imagery in it for being a children’s cartoon.

Thanks again. You keep posting, we’ll keep watching… and waiting… but mostly watching.

    October 31, 2014 at 6:58 pm

Hey James I am glad you included this movie but you should have mentioned that it didn’t come out until like 2009 or 2010. I remember waiting for a few years after seeing the trailer to get a copy when they finally released it. I have a tradition of watching it every October to get me in the mood of Halloween. It is truly an instant classic.

  • October 31, 2014 at 7:08 pm

Another Awesome month of madness in the books. Thank you so much for all you do, you are actually an inspiring figure that reminds me to follow through and dedicate myself towards all my passions, now get back to work and go shit on some games.

Very cool, James. I haven’t heard of this movie, either, so thanks for letting me know about it. This definitely looks like one worth checking out.

Though, Sam’s face is supposed to be a Jack-o-Lantern. I’m not sure how you’re seeing “fetus”. πŸ˜›

Thanks for another great year of Monster Madness! ^^

  • October 31, 2014 at 8:10 pm

I was an extra in this movie when they filmed it outside of Vancouver BC for the parade scene for three nights. The extras were terrible, shitting all over the washrooms, half eating food and returning it to food table, arguing with the production team. Its nice to see the movie turn out well even when so many people were acting like a bunch of assholes.

It’s time for me to see something i never saw.
Invasion of the body snatchers it is for this halloween. Not with friends, alone in the eternal darkness, preaching, peering, doubting.

  • October 31, 2014 at 8:35 pm

Thanks AVGN, always nice to hear your reviews. Will wait for the next Halloween Special

  • October 31, 2014 at 8:50 pm

I know you don’t do many animated flicks but the “Halloween Tree” was a favorite of mine as a kid plus a nice break from all the horror flicks. Maybe next year…

  • Rob G

    October 31, 2014 at 8:54 pm

Made an account just to comment on this. This is by far my favorite Halloween without a question. Definitely combines all the things you think of when you imagine Halloween. Its incredibly self aware in its cliches and its awesome seeing a bunch of young actors and an early Anna Paquin

You really outdid yourself this year. You’ve managed to bring together classics I grew up with and loved (including some lesser known ones), introduced me to at least one new (old) movie that I watched and absolutely LOVED, and ended with the PERFECT Halloween movie. Bravo!

  • November 1, 2014 at 12:50 am

Hey James, long time fan here and finally decided to lose my comment virginity and make a comment. Great job on Monster Madness this year. Also, It would be great to see you up here in Canada for Calgary Expo 2015 in April. I have emailed the Calgary promoters and hopefully they get in touch with you. In 2014 Calgary Expo had 97,000 and is becoming the best Comic Fan Expo in Canada. It would be awesome if you attended. Cheers!

If John Carpenter wanted to make a series of movies about the Halloween holiday, he should have not have given it the same name as his popular series of movies about a slasher villain named Michael Myers. It’s like he was trying to trick people into seeing his movie.

And yet another MM is behind us. Some suggestions for next year:
    1. The Blind Dead movies. A series if Spanish horror films featuring undead Templar knights. A bit hit and miss, but great installments in the zombie and mummy genres.
    2. The Town that Dreaded Sundown. An early slasher loosely based on a series of killings that took place in Texarkana during the 40’s. Not great, but has one of the most… unique deaths I’ve seen in a horror film.
    3. Madhouse. An underrated slasher/mystery starring Vincent Price and Peter Cushing.
    4. Bedlam. Borris Karloff stars as the cold and cruel proprietor of an insane asylum during the 1700’s. One if his best performances in my opinion.
    5. Yongary. A late 60’s kaiju classic from South Korea, it boasts a cool monster, and is the only film of the genre where the titular monster dies of anal hemorrhaging. And no, I’m NOT kidding.

  • November 7, 2014 at 3:36 pm

You forgot to mention Anna Paquin from True Blood and Brian Cox who is with Anna in X men 2.

  • Ivan Seagull

    November 12, 2014 at 6:12 am
