I just had an awesome idea. How about an AVGN/Board James crossover episode where they review all the different console ports of board games like Monopoly and shit? How cool would that be?

Yes, LGN sucks ass. But ever since I was a kid and still to this day, I really enjoy Alien 3. I son’t know why. I just find it to be a fun, challenging game.

    • October 15, 2014 at 7:02 am

The fact that the Nerd hates LGN is more of a running gag than anything else. Sure in the NES era they made some horrid games, but in the SNES era they made some really good ones like Maximum Carnage.

    • Brad Check

      October 15, 2014 at 4:59 pm

      LGN?

  • October 15, 2014 at 1:33 am

A new AVGN makes my heart go aflutter, even if it’s a shorter episode but I suppose that’s acceptable when he’s also working on Monster Madness. Hell, I don’t care – as long as it’s new AVGN, it’s welcome. πŸ˜€

You wanna know something sad though? This and another LJN game the Nerd has tackled, Roger Rabbit, was done by a beloved studio many thought could do no wrong until the 2000s rolled along… RARE. So before you say all of Rare’s games were masterpieces before Stairfax Temperatures (Blame Jontron) or Stabbed in the Goolies (Blame me.) think again.

    • October 15, 2014 at 1:34 am

Oh, and I forgot to mention: Maybe I shouldn’t judge since I’m a lesbian, but James… those sideburns do not befit your handsome looks.

    • OmegaDez

      November 17, 2014 at 12:01 pm

I always hated RARE and think every game they made is as lame as this one so I never understood all the love. Maybe it was Goldeneye? I gotta admit, I am not in FPS so I never experienced this game that everyone loves so much…

Awesome! A new AVGN episode, and an enjoyable one at that! The terminology style from your Kid Kool episode is a nice throwback IMHO. Oh, LJN. You can’t be too mad at them though James. They’ve singlehandedly provided you with a lot of review material over the years.

    • sirensofsilence

  • October 15, 2014 at 4:19 am

congrats on your movie man!! Glad to have you back, this was a great episode seeing the LJN logo is hilarious, heres to hoping you make it to 200 episodes someday =) keep it real mr nerd!!!

its so sad how movies almost always turn into such horrible games, movie games should be outlawwed… if theres ever another game made based on AVGN you should make it an RPG where your trying to save kids from playing/buying shitty games

  • sirensofsilence

    October 15, 2014 at 4:44 am

Yay! Glad to have a new episode – the first new one since the movie, right? I want The Nerd to take another diarrhoea dump on game or something, tho… That’s my favourite bit!

  • October 15, 2014 at 7:04 am

Nice vid. I was hoping for an appearance by the ghost with the most though. After all, it’s a Halloween episode and you did say his name three times.

    • Stefanoragnopazzo

      October 15, 2014 at 8:08 am

Yeah, the zoom on the cardridge while he said 3 times beetlejuice makes me think that there’s something going in the next AVGN…i smell a motherfucker. Hope it’s not me. xD

  • October 15, 2014 at 7:13 am

Hey! Nice to see a new AVGN after the movie. πŸ™‚
Oh, btw, you sure LJN sends out such invitations, or is it just that they listen in on the market and when no other respectable company will take the idea (license problems or not true to the origins) they’ll gladly pick it up?
Just my 2 cents of my brain capacity… πŸ˜‰

Was anyone else expecting Mike to appear as Beetlejuice? Wasted opportunity!

    • MrBrrumpkins

      October 15, 2014 at 12:09 pm

I was expecting Mike as Beetlejuice. I think it could have been better if they did something like that. The episode was decent enough, but definitely a missed opportunity. An episode like the Halloween one would have been great. And yes, I appreciate James doing an AVGN episode after all the hard work on the moive and doing a daily episode of MM. Yes and Yes. Fan since 2008. 30 years old(always wonder about the ages of posters on here….) This message is solely the opinion of an avid Cinemassacre fan!

      • Lukas Sprehn

        October 15, 2014 at 2:50 pm

James is 34. Mike is around the same age, if not the same. They’re from the year 1980.

      • MrBrrumpkins

        October 17, 2014 at 9:10 am

Well, I was talking about the comment posters. Just wondered because most found it hilarious. Curious about the age range based on the reception of videos.

  • October 15, 2014 at 8:18 am

A nice review with several clever jokes. =D
Quite enjoyable indeed ^^ What surprised me a little were the glasses, but I suppose after the ET review is now officially a numbered Episode too, it makes sense.

  • October 15, 2014 at 10:16 am

Yeah LJN is the publisher. But, this doesn’t excuse the company for publishing such shit. The fact is, companies don’t care about the quality of a product as much as they care about the profit it will make. I’m beginning to think that LJN had some side deal with the Holloywood film industry. The amount of film-based games LJN is an anomaly. All things being equal and fair, there wouldn’t be one company that just happened to publish film-based games. Methinks that LJN was a marketing arm of the Hollywood film industry.

  • October 15, 2014 at 10:19 am

Yeah it’s confirmed. LJN was a marketing arm of MCA. The only reason they made these games was to promote the films. See the LJN wiki page for the source.

    • Lukas Sprehn

      October 15, 2014 at 2:51 pm

Oh. Hmmm. I wonder if the movie studios had a saying in how the games were made… we gotta dig a little deeper to find this information. Unless it’s on the Wiki as well?

  • October 15, 2014 at 12:53 pm

  • Andrew Miller

    October 15, 2014 at 2:09 pm

and it keeps on getting funnier every single time i see it!

  • October 15, 2014 at 2:22 pm

James seems to get better every episode!
This was entertainment at itΒ΄s best – Happy Halloween too, motherfucker! (^.^)/

  • October 15, 2014 at 2:34 pm

It was good, but I miss the more wacky AVGN episodes with Bugs Bunny and R.O.B. I was expecting Motherfucker Mike dressed as Beetlejuice to bother the AVGN through out the episode, until the AGVN gets tired and battles him. Then says Beetlejuice 3 times and banishes him back to hell. I do understand though that those sort of episodes take more time to make, but it sure would be awesome.

  • October 15, 2014 at 3:02 pm

Hilarious! Great job on this one, had me laughing real good.

  • Joker83

    October 15, 2014 at 4:16 pm

So glad I never played this, I would have cried at how bad it is. Way worse than Roger Rabbit or anything like that, looks worse than Ghostbusters

    • October 15, 2014 at 4:19 pm

I actually liked Roger Rabbit, despite it being shitty. This game was shit incarnate. One of the last NES games I played before I moved on to the Sega Genesis.

  • October 15, 2014 at 4:17 pm

13:53 is too long for this turd sandwich of a game!

  • October 15, 2014 at 4:19 pm

Great video, but I’m amazed the stomping at the end didn’t lead to you falling through the floor. It seemed like the perfect set up.

  • Weldin Dunn

    October 15, 2014 at 4:39 pm

Nice! I new he was gonna make a halloween one.

  • October 15, 2014 at 4:40 pm

The only thing that could have made this better is if at the end when you’re stomping the cartridge, you had fallen through the floor via
    pinpoint piss taking.

I used to play an MSDOS Beetlejuice game all the time as a kid, it was really weird like shooting enemies in 8 directions on a floating chess board.

Thanks for continuing to make videos, James! This one froze up for a second and said “Powerups-Powerups-Powerups” & then continued, I LOLed.

    That was good.

    October 16, 2014 at 5:11 pm

They based it on the star and not the movie, hahaha. I loved that rant. There were some great jokes in this review. It really is a disappointing game that doesn’t make sense and has very little to do with the movie. Stomping on the game was different. It was simple, but effective. I guess you were referencing back to stomping on the bugs? By the way, what was up with the password that kept appearing?

  • October 16, 2014 at 10:14 pm

Such a great new episode James. I’ve always been proud and never doubted. Whenever it seems like games for Halloween episodes are running low on ideas find a better one.

Hey I just wanted to say ive been a long time fan, ive seen all episodes more than once and some even more than that. How the nerd stole cristmas is by far my favourite episode, also I love all the console reviews like Jaguar, Sega CD/32x, Oddysey etc. I grew up with the NES myself and know of all the moments of glory and despair. The AVGN movie didnt click for me sadly, im not sure if it was bad acting or just too corny, or if the AVGN persona just didnt fit so well in a full length movie setting. Kind of reminded me of Austin Powers although thats a great movie. However dont let the critics bring you down, improve what has to be improved and follow your goals. I am always grateful to see a new J n M Monday and new AVGN episodes, they are always top notch entertainment.

  • JT

    October 18, 2014 at 5:48 am

I can’t get over how they have you running around in the daytime. Beetlejuice doesn’t do anything during the day and is inactive, having him diurnal clashes with the character and doesn’t work.

  • October 18, 2014 at 9:01 am

I’m indifferent about your angryness and other stuff people regularly bitch about, I’m just here to say that although the game may be horrible I do appreciate that you included a decent amount of gameplay footage in the video. During 2011 and 2012 your videos tended to contain only 5 to 10% gameplay footage and 90 to 95% retardation which just put me off watching your videos until some time in 2013 when I noticed you went back to your older style where you actually reviewed the games.

    • October 18, 2014 at 9:03 am

the parts where you say “we’ll call it x” and write it out on the video seems off, it doesn’t feel natural and goes against what you’ve made in the last 100+ AVGN episodes. It makes it feel like you are just listing things one over another and making jokes to get the video over with, where before you introduced this change every video felt more natural and more entertaining

    • Michael Holmes

      October 23, 2014 at 1:18 am

I disagree, I’ve seen all the nerd episodes and this one has become an instant favorite of mine. I thought that the “identifications” did, in fact, work because it was as though James was going over what was wrong with LJN games in general. This does come to fruition in the end when he suggests the LJN Welcome Letter, which had me laughing uncontrollably.

    • Darthbrooks

      October 23, 2014 at 2:24 am

I also disagree with this. It’s a good recurring joke throughout the video and comes full circle by the end. It’s also a new joke in the encyclopedia of Nerd jokes.

      • October 29, 2014 at 11:54 pm

You need to trim them sideburns a bit James, unless you really are going for the Victorian general mustache look…

AVGN has exhausted it’s vocabulary? Not even close. Great work James, yet again.

Wait, The Nerd featured this game in his NES Acessories Episode, acknowledging this was an LJN game! Did he forget?

  • November 6, 2014 at 5:32 pm

Wow James I am digging this new Nerd episode! Don’t listen to the other people who tell you to bust your ass like you are some sort of slave to the World Wide Web. Live healthy, free, and grace us with your videos. I know I enjoy watching every Mike and James Mondays. Again good stuff.

What’s the deal with the random spawning of number chains on the screen during gameplay? I’m surprised it wasn’t mentioned.

You should really get the LJN game console and do a nerd episode over it. It’s the ljn video art

Maybe sometime you should make a blu ray of all the episodes, A
nice box-set with the Movie and every AVGN feature possible.

I’d rather have a buffalo take a diarrhea dump in my ear then to ever see the nerd call it quits. As long as your around James I’ll always be a fan. And your totally right about te LJN thing. IF ANYTHING JAMES they are MORE responsible then the developer. I mean they approve the shit for sale I guess. So if anything LJN IS MORE at fault then the developer. So nobody makes sense correcting you James. This vid was good James. I know these games suck. BUT THANK GOD cuz if they didn’t we would have never had the AVGN…and that…would be….BULLLLLSHIT!!!! lol….loved the vid.

p.s. when you said they give you something original talking about the music….and then beetlejuice’s face popped up with that TOTALLY unfitting music and you said “what kind of horseshit is this…I Laughed so hard on that. Thanks. I needed that. Too funny.

I haven’t been on in months and it looks like I have a lot of shit to catch up on. Got a new house and finally got internet, looking forward to being able to view your site again. Funny stuff, aside from one or two games LJN was pretty much horrible translations of movies or comic books.

  • October 2, 2015 at 9:39 pm
