That was fuckin’ funny, James. Loved it. And the ending was…well, obvious.

    That fucking Q.

He could be part of the Shatverse, yet ANOTHER timeline that JJ loves to put in almost as much as lens flare.

  • September 29, 2014 at 11:11 pm

Wow, a new video from James! I must still be asleep…

To be honest, I’d be more satisfied if Shatner didn’t come back. Maybe it’s not fair but Old Spock was a little bit of a distraction anyway. I know Star Trek is no stranger to time travel but seriously, if they have any more time travel stories they should just call it “TIME TREK.”

However, your video did mention that Spock has mind melded with Kirk a bunch of times so, in his mind is stored a lifetime spent with Kirk, observing his decisions and experiences and character and ‘spirit.’ Old Spock could mind meld with Young Kirk, giving him the chance to encounter first hand a version of Old Kirk’s conciousness, played by William Shatner. The two could have a talk similar to Young and Old Professor Xavier in DOFP.

It’s simpler than that, James. How did Kirk know to leave the Nexus? Because Picard got swept in with Soren and asked him to. They alter time. Picard never gets swept in. He never asks Kirk to leave. So some version of Kirk- let’s call him Kirk Prime Prime- is still there. The one that showed up on Veridian 3? Just some alternate version.

Though I would LOVE to see Q interact with the reboot crew- assuming John de Lancie came in for it.

Failing that, I like your idea of the whale probe doing it.

If the goal is just to get Shatner in the film, he could still be dead. They just get his body, and carry him around like Weekend at Bernie’s.

Wasn’t that borg resurrection thing done in a book? I think it was “co-written” with William Shatner.

Just a correction, it’s Star Trek XIII, and i’m sure of it because the credits of the 2009 movie called it Star Trek XI.
Doesn’t matter if a news site says otherwise, it’s not like that.

On topic now, i like the Q idea but i would like for him to be punished by the council for that (by having him replaced by a new Q) and to have caused so much trouble that, in the end, the only way to restore things without causing an interplanetary war with the time travel septons is to make Kirk die at the exact same time where is was revived, BUT!, since the old Q is banned from existence they have to travel into important times of Star Trek history to find that exact moment.
This would also explain why Kirk has aged.

    • September 30, 2014 at 3:29 am

Star Trek 3 just meaning 3rd entry in the new series. Not that it’s actually called that.

      • Stefanoragnopazzo

        September 30, 2014 at 3:47 pm

Okay so James meant that…he sure likes to make his life harder than what needs to be tough…xD

    Best number one ever!

  • September 30, 2014 at 4:41 am

just have William Shatner show up on set as claim to be the real Kirk.. let him ad-lib his own bizarre material for the film including dialog and story… he’s in the new Star Trek universe because he willed himself into existence.. because he’s William Shatner.. and that’s all the reason he needs.

  • September 30, 2014 at 4:57 am

Those are all terrible ideas for a movie plot that would sink a franchise reboot to the depths. Apart from Number One Q. Actually that would make an interesting plot where the current Star Trek team go on a diplomatic mission very similar to original series, there Q masquerading as one of the diplomats reveals himself and says that this is all wrong and finds it particular boring and with the advent of the Q continuum they have questioned whether to wipe out this reality and replace it with another worthy one unless the current crew can prove themselves with a very intense test.

Similar to last episode of ST Generations, except you have all 3 crews, from the original ST and Generations work together with the current reboot crew to solve this test.

Needs to work a few nuts and bolts, but it would certainly bring nostalgia along with a plot that gives answers as to why the new crew is the way it is without some boring overused time travel hat trick when the Q continuum hasn’t intervened at all since its appearance in ST Generation

Well, the video is meant to be a joke though 🙂

  • September 30, 2014 at 6:25 am

Some mighty creative thinking there, but the only one that would seem the most plausible would be “Q”, that & it would be sweet to see John de Lancie reprise his role. 🙂

  • Satnav

    September 30, 2014 at 9:54 am

I know this list isn’t meant to be taken entirely seriously, but the ones that could actually work are the Mirror one–just say the Tantalus device moved Kirk to another dimension–and Q. Though Q already appeared in recent comics set in the nuTrek universe, but eh.

All that being said, I’m not sure I’d really want Shatner to come back. Old Spock was really just there to bridge the old universes and the new, and to make a cameo in the second one; Shatner would probably want to dominate the whole thing, and let’s face it, he’s kinda old for that sort of stuff now. Plus, the old crew as a whole got their last grand hurrah in Star Trek 6. I’d kinda prefer the new film to stand on itself with its own cast.

But who knows what they’ll come up. I’ll wait and see.

  • September 30, 2014 at 10:22 am

WAY simpler than that, early version of Holodeck where old Spock catch some memories with Shatner in a program he made.

We gonna see a new AVGN episode anytme soon?? Its been like 4 Months and now there’s monster madness for october . unless he plans on Throwin one in in the middle of MM like llast year. Sorry about my grammar, either the website is screwed up or my phone is.

    • September 30, 2014 at 10:35 am

Of course there’s gotta be a Halloween episode!

You remember what’s happened in the past 4 months…? (Finishing the movie, theatrical screenings, traveling, getting the digital release ready, working on the DVD/Blu-ray…etc.) There shouldn’t be any wonder why there hasn’t been an episode this summer. There was a whole feature length film instead!

HOLY GENERIC CEREAL! James replied to me sweet! : D. But anyways yeah I know you had an extremely busy year so far. Congrats on everything you have accomplished. Your such an inspiration to me, your work ethic is absolutely astonishing. I’m just sooo anxious to watch another episode. 4 years ago my buddy introduced me to your castlevania videos and I immediately spread the word and watched all your other videos. I became a regular viewer of your website in 2010. I remember your first video that I saw when it first came out was the wonderful Action 52. Hope I didn’t tighten your diaper too hard if you know what Im sayin, I just selfishly wanna see another AVGN episode. I must say, I really enjoy the James and Mike videos that you guys pump out once a week. Continue the amazing work guys! If you’re EVER in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area in PA (thats where Im from) let me know so I can challenge Mike to a 1v1 game of Warcraft 2. I used to play WC2 online for sooo many years until WC3 came out. And then I continued to waste my life playing that game. I know were still a month away from Halloween, but hope you all have a kickass holiday! You should pump out the Rock Band party again. Me and my buddies used to get drunk and play it all night. Its a blast!

    September 30, 2014 at 10:36 am

James! You aren’t thinking 4th dimensionally!

Actually, the #2 and #1 ways do work with the time line. In fact for #2 you could argue that since Whoopie Goldberg’s “shadow” remained in the nexus and time has no meaning, then Kirk’s “shadow” could easily be there too!

For #1 you could swap Q for Trelane! That would be pretty sweet, right?

  • frostare

    September 30, 2014 at 11:18 am

Even if I never watched the original Three Stooges, the newer film made me look for some of the original episodes. Same with the new Cantinflas movie. Bringing back an original actor is a step beyond from that and I’ll turn fucking obsessed… yes please!

      September 30, 2014 at 3:59 pm

That’ll be great. Appreicatied but not too distracting.
Also PLEASE, no more villain… with a revenge plot..
couldn’t they just start checking out awesome wonders of the universe, again?

  • September 30, 2014 at 1:05 pm

These were all great! Lots of immagination and good memory. Too bad today’s screenwriters are so lazy that if they decided to bring back Shatner they’d probably just say that he never died. He just fainted from falling, but actually survived and go on from there.

  • Robert

    September 30, 2014 at 1:35 pm

None of that is really needed. This is a new Star Trek timeline. Next Gen won’t happen (at least not the way we saw) just like the original series episodes aren’t going to happen (in the way we saw). The Kirk of this new timeline will NOT be sucked into the Nexus, and won’t be pulled out later by Picard. This timeline’s future Kirk can go back in time as all Star Trek characters pretty much have at one point or another…

  • CaptainGuy

    September 30, 2014 at 5:23 pm

Here’s how we know Kirk and Picard left the Nexus: Kirk died. So unless Kirk was suicidal or Picard wanted Kirk to die, Kirk wouldn’t have died if they were still in the Nexus, since it does what ever someone wants.

James, how could you forget the episode on TNG where the crew is infected with that disease that makes them age super-fast. easy solution, Pine gets that, turns to Shatner, gets cured the end.

    • blair85

      September 30, 2014 at 9:57 pm

      Sorry in TOS, not TNG

      • Robert

@Robert That’s actually the same disease, they mention that in passing in the episode. I completely forgot about that one though, until now

I got one suggest since that the star trek universe been altered like nero and spock arrival, etc. there would have been a way to let kirk survive and let alone spock coulda told kirk about his fate. But I consider the films non canon.

    • Jarnor23

      October 5, 2014 at 3:34 am

Consider it if you want to deny reality, but this is a Trek alternate universe as real as the Mirror Universe.

  • joey24

    October 1, 2014 at 8:18 am

I know one way he could return since the world have been altered he would have avoid his fate and let alone it my not happen. but I see the films non canon so mite as well bring in the young crew of t.n.g. appearance.

  • Sean Peel

    October 1, 2014 at 11:37 am

ARG! Why do people keep calling it Star Trek 3? Star Trek 3 was The Search for Spock. Always has been. This is Star Trek 13. Thirteen. Why is it so hard to put the 1 in front of the 3??

  • October 1, 2014 at 3:03 pm

Here is the problem I see with this top 10. The reboot is sun-baked dog shit and Shatner shouldn’t be in something so terrible.
It’s already a crime against humanity that Spock is not only in them, but is still stuck in the past considering he MANUALLY USED THE SUNS GRAVITY TO TRAVEL THROUGH TIME FOUR FRIKKIN TIMES ALREADY!!!
I mean didn’t JJ see Star Trek IV, or Tomorrow is Yesterday on TOS??

  • October 1, 2014 at 4:30 pm

    sorry btt TNG > OS

  • October 1, 2014 at 9:02 pm

Hey here is an idea bring back Whoopi Goldberg as Martus Mazursince since she can be in any time of past, future or present like she was in Generations and told Picard about everything about Soran in the movie when she was in past and knew about Soran and then Martus Mazursince could come back to help the younger group and tell them the need to travel back and to need older Kirk help and also older Spock can be on the ship to help them out also and older Kirk could reunite with older Spock and Kirk could live his life again and go with older Spock but I hope the story is about the first time meeting the Klingons and the first time Kirk meets the women who will be his wife and gets pregnant with there son David.=)

  • The Wicker Man

    October 2, 2014 at 12:52 am

I can just picture it now, rumours abound that a former Star Trek character will appear in the next movie. The hype train is in full motion. Is it Kirk? Is it Picard? No! It’s Wesley Crusher, who saves the day again by coming up with a solution that people far more intelligent, qualified and experienced didn’t think of… (I shouldn’t even joke about such horrific things)

    But seriously:
    1. TNG > OS
    2. Picard > Kirk (it’s funny watching the earlier episodes of TNG though as Picard is kind of an asshole!)
    3. Q! Oh please, God, we need more Q!

  • DarkMagicianAVPFan

    October 2, 2014 at 12:24 pm

There’s one problem with many of these: they require access to Kirk Prime or at least his body. The problem is that the time line has split. If they travel into the future it would be the future of their reality, where Biff is corrupt and power-oh wait, wrong movie. But still the same principle.
I do think your Mirrorverse idea has merits cause they could borrow an idea that was thought up during Enterprise’s last season:
See, the story was Enterprise would find the mirror Kirk (who wasn’t killed by the Tantalus field, simply displaced in time and space. His actions in the story would cause the split between the normal universe and the mirror universe.
While this was scrapped, it could easily be used in a new film.

Omg, how did I not see number1 coming ROFL! xD

The cast of the TOS reboot is very nice, except one… Pavel Chekov.
I mean, wtf, the guy does even REMOTELY resemble Walter Koenig!
Yeah there are some other nitpicking things like Kirk’s having blue eyes instead of brown, but apart from that he really feels like a Kirk.
But Chekov.. ugh.. I grind my teeth when he’s on screen.

  • October 3, 2014 at 1:58 pm

you left out the main no1 issue … the time line as changed ….. kirk along with it future kirk is no longer the same version probs not even dead

  • October 3, 2014 at 7:26 pm

Q snaps his fingers … done. Lol, classic!

  • Ben W.

    October 3, 2014 at 8:04 pm

Why not a combination of ideas 10 and 7? Pine-Kirk’s body is becoming unstable from Khan’s superhuman blood, and the new cast is forced to travel into the evil mirror universe to find Mirror-Kirk?

(Or better yet, they bring Mirror-Kirk into the Abrams universe, and he stages some kind of military coup against the Federation.)

  • Elvenking

  • greedo

    October 4, 2014 at 2:08 am

Interesting theories. However, I’d like to go a step further than number 10, and propose 11: Star Trek: Generations never existed! If the film never exists, then the Nexus never existed, therefore Kirk never dies. That film is an abomination, in my eyes. It spat upon everything that I held dear as a Star Trek fan. I hate the plot line, hated the Nexus, and especially hated the death of Kirk! Kirk never dies! It’s blasphemy! It goes against everything we held dear about Kirk. How many times has Kirk flirted with death, only to survive. Exactly! So, ignore this film, and act like Kirk never died, and things are right as rain!

(Of course, they would have to explain what happened to the Enterprise D, and how the crew of the Enterprise happened to have a new ship. But those are minor details)!

    • Jarnor23

      October 5, 2014 at 3:37 am

I like the Q snap idea. Easy, no problems whatsoever, and it can even be our main universe Kirk. Since when has someone being dead slowed Q down?

  • November 20, 2015 at 1:29 am

In the alternate timeline, there is no reason to believe that Kirk gets trapped in the Nexus.

Old Kirk can time travel back, or young Kirk can time travel forward.
