Must be pretty awesome being so mature that you need to make fun of people who play a fun game that does not affect you on the ninternet. Contrats your too mature to play the first game.

I love this game. Even call of duty black ops zombies did this. I have a suggestion for the next nerd episode. You should do the NES porn games (bubble bath babes, hot slots, and peek a boo poker). I know they’re really rare so I don’t know if you have them or not, but if you do I’d like to see a continuation of one of the earlier nerd episodes.

Sorry! I meant to post this alone!

@JASONJRF: Stop trying to ruin my fun! …or actually no wait, keep trying to ruin my fun! You must have missed the memo, the hot new meme is to see how many useless first-related comments can fill up the first, second, and even third pages of the comments section. So reply again, please, it brings me closer to the goal! After all I’m sure we can all agree, comments sections are meant to be treated as game areas for stupid memes, heaven forbid anyone actually discuss the site content! =D

I’m second! I’m so cool guys!

  • August 25, 2014 at 12:34 am

  • Don Skiver

    August 25, 2014 at 1:08 am

Oh dude, Super Smash TV is sooo much better!! The graphics are really good and the controls are a lot better, I personally like them better than the 2 D-pad controls.

  • Chauncey Johnson

    August 25, 2014 at 1:12 am

I never played that game growing up. D: It looks awesome though! I will have to try it. You guys should play the game Cabal! πŸ™‚

  • August 25, 2014 at 1:15 am

In the game the host says “I’d buy that for a dollar!” also in the film Robocop. Also this game has a huge ass bodycount. A perfect arcade version is on Xbox/PS2/PC/GCN Midway arcade Treasures 1 awesome shit…also Mortal Kombat co-founder John Tobias artist for Smash TV! AVGN rules!

  • GameCom

    August 25, 2014 at 1:23 am

Hahaha that was great, always good to see Pat.

  • Tross

    August 25, 2014 at 1:45 am

Interesting. I never knew the NES Advantage could be used like that. That game looks simple to pick up, but increasingly challenging to complete as it goes on.

  • August 25, 2014 at 1:51 am

I used to play “Super” Smash TV all the time (on Super Nintendo). It was hard as fuck (it only had 4 levels, and I never beat it without cheating)… but I still loved it. I had no idea there was an NES version.

  • Jesky

    August 25, 2014 at 2:22 am

Hey awesome i just picked up super smash tv that i saw at a local game/comic store a few days ago. played it when i was a kid… still cant beat it

  • nammm3

    August 25, 2014 at 2:55 am

Lol, cool review! I never saw anyone use two controllers to play this before. Now I know why πŸ™‚

  • Stefanoragnopazzo

    August 25, 2014 at 3:16 am

Yes, this is a short game, if you complete it first time. Fact is, it’s so hard it may take weeks or months depend on simply your reflexes.
Amazing, this is a videogame with a /v/.

  • Jamieboy

    August 25, 2014 at 3:22 am

I had Super Smash TV on SNES and got to nearly the end of the game and it crashed. I lashed out and punched at the TV (which was one of those old ones built into a hifi unit with a thin glass pane in front) and actually smashed the TV. I didn’t know whether to go to the emergency room or laugh my ass off.

  • August 25, 2014 at 3:51 am

That’s awesome. Dual stick shooters are really great, and it’s amazing to see one working on a NES. The video makes me want to see you guys do the Xbox 360’s XNA game, I MAED A GAME WITH ZOMBIES IN IT … numbers replaced for my own sanity.

  • August 25, 2014 at 5:30 am

I prefer Berzerk over Robotron all the way, and it was the first of its kind, 2 years before Robotron.

The reference in Retro City Rampage to Smash TV is just clever.

  • August 25, 2014 at 7:05 am

james is the VCR king, lol… he should sell them off with his autograph on each one

  • diesel

    August 25, 2014 at 8:58 am

    5 minutes long video??Really?

  • Nathan B

    August 25, 2014 at 11:25 am

Lets see a video of you guys destroying some VCRs in a creative fashion!

  • August 25, 2014 at 11:49 am

I preferred Super Smash TV on the SNES. It was a great Arcade port and had better controls.

  • Jeff Parson

    August 25, 2014 at 12:55 pm

You guys should try commando for nes looks just like that game.

    August 25, 2014 at 2:23 pm

At first I was annoyed that it was yet another video with Pat. Then I saw that the video was only about five minutes in length. That makes it bearable at least.

    • MrPlow3

      August 26, 2014 at 2:05 pm

Pat’s awesome so why don’t you just shut your face. His reviews are funny without having to drop F bombs every other word. Perhaps a simpleton like you can only handle their humor in the most basic primal form, but some of us can laugh at more. (BTW this isn’t a shot at you James, love your reviews too!)

  • Sakenomi

    August 25, 2014 at 2:31 pm

Could You and James play “Shatterhand” for NES on one of these mondays? I loved that game as a kid, and Your last time’s batman playthrough somehow reminded me of it… Though I had “Tokkyuu Shirei Solbrain” for Famicom, different sprites but the same game. (I know Mike is reading this, check Your closet, man)

  • August 25, 2014 at 3:29 pm

Want another game with the same controls? Geometry Wars!

    • ToadRoad

      August 26, 2014 at 3:54 pm

I was going to say the same thing. I’ve only ever played the 5 minute demo that came with XBOX 360 (thousands of times), but even just completing that is one of the most rewarding feelings. It immediately came to mind when I saw this video.

  • August 25, 2014 at 3:36 pm

Can you review a week of Garfield

  • Joker83

    August 25, 2014 at 4:07 pm

Mutoid Man gets a clever homage in the AVGN Movie, good stuff

  • austin castle

    August 25, 2014 at 5:51 pm

could you guys do an episode of Zelda: Majora’s Mask? i love that game!

    • August 25, 2014 at 7:27 pm

The Mega Drive version got around it quite well. A shot where you faced, B shot in the opposite direction you were moving and you could lock the direction of fire and walk in another direction with C. Not as good as twin stick, but close. And then of course there was blood, so much blood so worth it for that..

  • oscuro

    August 25, 2014 at 8:23 pm

Great game. My cousin got so mad when he was little playing this he took it outside and smashed it with a hammer. Cant say I blame him it can you mad sometimes with cheap crap

    • Joker83

      August 26, 2014 at 8:02 am

Can’t say you blame him? There’s getting frustrated at a difficult game and there’s losing yourself to a violent rage and smashing things with a hammer. Taking a hammer to your game (that was bought with someone else’s money) is classic entitled angry young gamer behavior.

  • August 25, 2014 at 9:01 pm

I used to play Smash TV on the Sega Genesis. It was always a blast to play. πŸ˜€

  • KingMike

    August 25, 2014 at 10:45 pm

You actually can (sort of) move and shoot independently with one conroller.
One button is used to shoot in the direction you’re facing and the other can be held to lock your firing direction while moving with the D-pad.

  • An Heroic Hippo

    August 26, 2014 at 2:10 am

The Binding of Isaac controls exactly like that guys.

  • August 26, 2014 at 3:15 pm

I’d buy that for a dollar!

  • Vargus Saars

    August 26, 2014 at 3:39 pm

I really love this game, but if you think thats hard try playing it on SEGA Megadrive (I live in the UK) so Genesis (if it came out over there, on the Genesis, I’m not sure). A -fires Left, B -fires Down, C -fires Right and Start -fires Up.

Really dumb control system I know but its awesome to play when you get used to it XD!

    August 26, 2014 at 10:52 pm

Graphics aren’t very nice to look at next to the SNES or the arcade versions, but at least the gameplay seems just as fun. πŸ˜‰

    August 27, 2014 at 1:56 am

Keep up the videos with Pat, even though there aren’t too many more since he’s back on the West Coast now, unless you guys filmed all day.

      August 30, 2014 at 3:35 pm

I wonder why Mike stopped doing his reviews?I think they film everyday.

  • Ericco79

    August 27, 2014 at 9:55 am

Wow I’m impressed! I remember seeing the commercials for Smash TV NES when I was younger. I never got it though because I figured it wouldn’t translate well to the NES. That was a surprisingly good port of the arcade. Good to see Pat again too!

    • kuksoolwon

      August 30, 2014 at 2:52 am

need help.Did you beat it?Im playng it for first time.

  • August 27, 2014 at 11:21 am

That’s actually really creative on the developer’s end. I never knew you could use two controllers like that. That has to be absolute hell on your thumbs though given the build of the d-pad on the NES. I kinda wish every overhead shooter like that on the NES had that option. The SNES d-pad is a lot better for games with heavy and varied d-pad use… it’s rounder, softer and mushier. Fun game but it works out a lot better on the SNES.

  • Sly_Frye

    August 27, 2014 at 3:19 pm

Play Nano Assault Neo for Wii U! Yes! That game plays a lot like this one. You use the Gamepad or Wii U Pro Controller and move with the left control stick and shoot with the right control stick. I think you’ll really like it!

Also, you can upgrade your weapons and shields.

I’ve played this game in the arcade and the emulation for “Midway Arcade Treasures” for the PS2 (in which I finish it, since it has unlimited continues in the arcade, but I didn’t have enough keys to enter The Pleasure Dome).
Yeah, I really like this game and “Robotron 2084”, which game developer Eugene Jarvis had a hand in on both games.

  • MCP

    August 30, 2014 at 12:08 am

I’d buy that for a dollar

    • kuksoolwon

That looks like a really good arcade port for the NES. I’d never seen it played before, and it was good to see you guys having fun with it. Thanks!
