I love James and Mike Mondays! Even though it is still Sunday where I am!

  • August 4, 2014 at 12:14 am

Fuck the super scope. So many bad memories. I think I have teeth marks on mine still.

You’ll notice a yellow bar filling at the bottom until it flashes if you don’t hold the fire button down. That’s your main damaging attack. Holding it down is to get rid of light purple shots that aren’t flashing.

Jim Carrey too. When is the last time u seen a Jim Carrey comedy

Actually, in a couple months, Dumb and Dumber to comes out. I’m not a bad speller, it’s really dumb and dumber to. Get it? Cuz they not good spellz.

        August 4, 2014 at 9:46 am

he was funny then he starting making serious movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Number 23, and Truman Show,

      • August 4, 2014 at 10:52 am

@Breeze Dorling – Number 23 was shit, but come on…Eternal Sunshine and Truman Show were probably the best movies in his career. They’re funny too, just not “comedies”.

I always wanted to see more of this game from you guys. I know James reviewed for NES accessories, for, some, reason, but he didn’t really play it much.

I’m glad they did a demonstration of the Super Scope of this length, as it was only briefly covered by the Nerd. Also, I just saw the AVGN Movie in Phoenixville. Finally getting to meet the Cinemassacre crew and get autographs was a dream come true. It’s nice to see a new video on this site so soon after that.

  • Tross

    August 4, 2014 at 1:45 am

Wow. I don’t think I’ve ever heard James mention his sister(feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, as I have seen every AVGN and James and Mike episode). I’m not sure why I’m that curious about her, but she’s in that anger begins vid. I grew up with a sister too, so we had dumb arguments like that, though not really about videogames, since she’s never been into them.

  • August 4, 2014 at 2:13 am

I wish you guys tried Yoshi’s Safari. That’s an honest to goodness great game and a spectacular light gun game that was done right! One of the forgotten SNES gems!

    • August 4, 2014 at 11:12 am

I remember that one. the Mario FPS/rail shooter. still same thing as Battleclash let go of the button to let the beam .

    It stinks!

Mike Myers had had that mad american general part in Inglorious Basterds as last role, that was great.

I think that he wants to do serious movies, that’s why you don’t see him. Once a comedian, a clown forever, it’s sad.

The only good Adam Sandler film was Happy Gilmore, and that’s all. But he has 5 movies coming from now till 2015…

Looks like you guys are missing the little rubber boot with a a pinhole in it on the eyepiece. Helps with accuracy.

  • Jeff Beck

    August 4, 2014 at 4:11 am

Ah, Battleclash. Such a fun game. You probably realized by now, but you were playing it completely wrong. You need to let your shot charge before firing to do real damage. Great video though. Brought back a lot of memories.

It might be ‘good luck’ but I can definitely see how one could interpret it as ‘good bye’.

  • August 4, 2014 at 4:33 am

Battle clash was one of the greats on the SNES especially battle clash 2, if you play it right you need to stop holding down the fire button to let you’re gun charge. Then you do way more damage and if you aim it right you can destroy parts of the enemy robot causing huge damage. Give it a try again and this time don’t be mental with it.

    • August 4, 2014 at 11:10 am

Totally agree, those were some of my favorite games too. Would love to see Nintendo resurrect this franchise. It was painfull watching them suck so much.

Ummmm FUCK super scope 6….Cool video tho like always….

  • August 4, 2014 at 4:44 am

Really good video. I just don’t know why they put xbox one behind them. What’s the damn point?

    • colezero

      August 4, 2014 at 9:26 am

It’s a joke. Just look at the scene 😀
Two grown-up men sitting in front of a modern big-ass screen with a current console, but not playing with it. Instead they have a huge plastic bazooka on their shoulder aming on an old tv and playing Blastris. 😀 This is hilarious.

  • August 4, 2014 at 6:38 am

Hehe, stupid James and Mike, in Battle Clash you’re suposed to charge the gun. Not spam and shoot repeatedly . Much easier and the later stages are amazing 🙂

    • August 4, 2014 at 11:15 am

I agree this needs to be done again. Also calibrate the scope often/use the scope sight.

  • August 4, 2014 at 7:02 am

I never had a superscope or any blaster for any system, and after watching this video, I´m really glad about it!
    What a waste of money…:/

    • Glorious Gerbil

      August 4, 2014 at 7:37 am

Agree, usually tried them out at friends houses and theyre kinda cool for a one time thing for half an hour or so, but no way near the money. Im very happy no money was thrown away on this kind of crap

  • August 4, 2014 at 7:24 am

I have battleclash…. but no super scope.
You CAN play it with a controller…. but you will only shoot in one spot, so you can only kill the first guy.

    August 4, 2014 at 8:22 am

James and Mike, there is a new Austin powers movie on the way and it’s called Austin powers 4 no announcement date for it yet but it’s on IMDB so i think it’s more or less confirmed at this point, And yeah Adam Sandlers Movie production company Happy Madison should def be taking out of his hands because he tries to hard to be as funny as he was when he was younger and tries and fails hard!

    • CrushingC10996WM

      August 4, 2014 at 8:36 am

Sandler clearly isn’t even trying, he’s using his name to make a buck

  • Smokingspoon

    August 4, 2014 at 8:32 am

A NEW STAR FOX IS COMING SOON!!!

Actually, I also heard Good bye! hahah.. The thing is, those quality are so low that it creates some kind of audio illusion. It all depends on what you want to hear, what you think is the most appropriate thing said and concentrating on it.

I can hear both ^^.. But it is Good luck!

    • Smokingspoon

      August 4, 2014 at 8:36 am

And I badly want a new Mike Myers movie… Especially a new Austin Power. With Seth Green now as the world dominator ^^.

I didn’t fully see Guru, but yeah… Cat in the Hat and The Grinch were not very good either.. Oh wait, that was Jim Carrey. When will those two do something together??

  • taykel

    August 4, 2014 at 8:35 am

YES! Mike Myers should be given another chance! I would love to see another Austin Powers movie. I love the series to death!

  • CrushingC10996WM

    August 4, 2014 at 8:37 am

I’d rather see a lesser Mike Myers comedy over another God Awful Happy Madison movie. I f***ing hate Sandler and Pander

  • CrushingC10996WM

    August 4, 2014 at 8:38 am

I’d love to see you guys play Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball, that game sucks

  • August 4, 2014 at 9:27 am

No reference to Mario chasing Bowser on Interterceptor?

  • moleman124

  • moleman124

    August 4, 2014 at 10:11 am

Adam Sandler gets to make all the movies he wants because his movies are just commercials, with ample product placement. So they always make $.

  • austin castle

    August 4, 2014 at 10:27 am

really guys? you’re doing THIS for James and Mike mondays? can’t you do something else like Donkey Kong Country or a Zelda marathon?

  • August 4, 2014 at 11:02 am

Come guys really? Battleclash and its sequel Metal Combat Falcon’s revenge were awesome. You’re supposed to let go of the fire button to charge up your beam to to major damage. holding down the button to do rapid fire lets you take out enemy shots. Seriously go back and play it again. Also be sure to calibrate the scope often.

  • August 4, 2014 at 11:14 am

Me and my bro had one as kids, never had any games for it but it was cool to play with.

  • supermark64

    August 4, 2014 at 11:23 am

I remember the Yoshi game for the Super Scope being pretty good.

  • August 4, 2014 at 11:45 am

James, Mike, I love you guys, but you can be such morons sometimes.
Ripping on a game like Battle Clash when you don’t even know some of the basic moves…
This isn’t just me blowing steam. Concluding that a game “sucks” with arguments like “look how much that guy damages you”, when the damage is avoidable, is just not fair. And Mike seemed to get it, you can shoot down pretty much any enemy projectile before it hits you.
Also, try CHARGING your shots, you’ll do a lot more damage.
One of the coolest things about Battle Clash was being able to hit different parts of the robots. Hit em enough and it’ll be destroyed. Destroy the weapons or the arms to reduce the damage dealing capabilities. Damage one part of the armor so you’ll do more damage, hitting exposed roboguts. Try shooting off the guy’s legs and watch em struggle on the ground. I bet you’d both be laughing your asses off.
It was nice to see the Super Scope get a second chance, but you really didn’t do Battle Clash any justice at all.

    August 4, 2014 at 12:18 pm

At first I was like “Final Fantasy III, really”? But then I remembered you might be refering to FFVI.

I still love the “The Dark Crystals” music from FFIII DS version, though. So epic, even more than Kefka’s Tower.

I loved your Star Fox dialogue impressions.

  • dsmattj

    August 4, 2014 at 12:33 pm

I’ll have to agree with your sister, James. Me and my brother used to have the same argument. We even got into physical fights sometimes about it.

I still sounds like “Good Bye” to me. I just put it into my SNES just to hear it again, and it still sounds like “Good Bye” to me. I know it doesn’t make any sense in the context, but that’s what I hear.

This would make a good psychological experiment on people hearing completely different things to the same stimuli. Why is it that some people hear “Good Bye” whereas some hear “Good Luck”?

    • Smokingspoon

      August 5, 2014 at 9:34 am

It’s an audio illusion. The audio quality is low and is left to us to interpret what seems more logical. Good bye Good luck are both appropriate.

  • August 4, 2014 at 12:46 pm

Meta combat (battleclash 2 basically) is one of my snes all time favorites! it’s just that you’re too lazy to learn how to play it. I mean, in the video you can see that the charged shots deal more damage, so why didn’t you keep using that? Rapid fire doesn’t have much purpose other than to stop bullets from the enemy 😛 You should give it another chance.

  • TigerNightmare

    August 4, 2014 at 1:26 pm

So frustrating to see them crap all over a great game while skipping all the dialogue that both enhances the story and explains how to play. Not holding out hope that they’ll play the sequel, Metal Combat.

About Star Fox 64, for me it is the best N64 game because is the only one that stills the definitive of its franchise.

  • August 4, 2014 at 2:05 pm

Star fox and star fox 64 would be an awesome monday!!!!!!!

  • August 4, 2014 at 4:42 pm

My friend got crazied one :), she stalks us while we spending a lot time outside his house, but funny thing she never seeking vanagence.

If you threat her by puching, she screams I GONNA TELL MOM!/DAD!, but never tell this 🙂 maybe she afraid us that why she dont told my friend parrents.

  • August 4, 2014 at 6:19 pm

Great video as always, but once again a bit unfair.
Thing is, you should have played the training levels on Battleclash, it tells you about the bombs and charging your weapon. Also, you have to hit the enemy on the right spot too I think (memory is a bit vague on this).

  • August 4, 2014 at 7:31 pm

You should totally do the Sega Menacer next monday and compare the two!

  • Pablo1989

    August 4, 2014 at 7:42 pm

Super Scope on game Lamborghini American Challenge, its turns game like well…Knight rider on NES but camera placed behind car.

  • Ryan Steiner

    August 4, 2014 at 8:24 pm

Question for James: what do you mean Star Fox 64 was “after your time”? It was a pretty early release on the N64 iirc

  • August 4, 2014 at 10:04 pm

I first played this by way of renting it from the video store when I was a kid. They gave me the gun and those two games and I played it over the weekend. It cost a buttload of money even just to rent it, not to mention we had to buy the batteries too. And I remember being so disappointed and thinking that it completely fucking blew ass. Like James said, even if you calibrate it right it is still about a inch off when you fire. I hope whoever came up with this idea got hit in the head by it and killed when some kid threw this out of his moms 5th floor apartment building window.

    • TigerNightmare

      August 5, 2014 at 7:56 am

If the accuracy is off, you’re probably sitting too close to the TV or you calibrated it wrong. Having the manual would help. Properly calibrated, you should be able to hit the robots’ arms and legs with ease.

  • smoke_th

    August 4, 2014 at 11:09 pm

Battle clash don’t suck. it’s you two who cannot read the damn text. It outright tells you that your gun gains a charge when you let trigger for a few seconds – and it shows you the damn charge.

  • joe stone

    August 4, 2014 at 11:28 pm

“how does this stack up aganst ff3 chrono trigger or zelda linkto the past ” <— the best snes lineup in order, good job mike.

  • August 4, 2014 at 11:41 pm

I watched an ad on this site that was +250 seconds. James, I had to exchange personal information: email addresses, contacts and location, so advertisements make their money marketing more accurately. I respect the fact you’re saving and earning money for this transaction, but I’m upset with you. Big Brother is watching you.

  • Patrick McGrath

    August 5, 2014 at 2:55 am

So great video. But, if I had to be a critic “and I do.” The frame at `:25 – 1:26. Why is it there? It’s a one second shot of you turning your head? It just really caught me off guard.

  • nammm3

    August 5, 2014 at 2:56 am

Cool video guys! Lol, Blastris A or whatever looked terrible

  • sexconker

    August 5, 2014 at 3:38 am

Come on guys, is it that hard to read a manual or even the in-game text? Battleclash was THE reason to own a Super Scope. I demand you give it another shot and actual spend some time with it.

  • Vulch

    August 5, 2014 at 8:36 am

I love you guys in a heterosexual way!!! And I personaly heard this voice for the very first time, and it really was like “GOOD BYE”, then I rewinded and it sounded like “GOOD LUCK”. And then the third time it sounded for me like GOOD BYE again. I guess it really depends on one’s hearing.

  • August 5, 2014 at 9:31 am

I actually really liked Battle Clash when I was a kid… but then again I actually knew how to play it so maybe that helped. =p You’re not supposed to spam shots, you’re supposed to let it charge to max by not firing and place the shot well. It reminded me of Mega Man somewhat in that you have to figure the fights out piece by piece until you can blow through them. I got to the last guy only a few times and I never did beat it.

This is an interesting game to play with an emulator because you can use the mouse as the super scope and it gives the game a completely different feel… it reminds me of Virtua Cop 2 on PC where you can use the mouse instead of a light gun.

  • August 5, 2014 at 2:24 pm

I had the Super Scope. It’s not as bad as you two are making it out to be. The calibration was dead on for me back in the day. I imagine the reason it is not now is because it’s been over 20 years since it’s release.

  • JUBJUBTHEELF

    August 5, 2014 at 2:37 pm

Battle Clash is a pretty good game, if you bums would just figure out that you don’t just hold the trigger down (which is the machine gun) and let your weapon charge you can blow shit up.

  • gluserty

    August 5, 2014 at 10:37 pm

Personally, i thought light gun games working the best in the arcades, even though I enjoyed “Duck Hunt” and “Hogan’s Alley” back on the NES. Super Scope seems okay, but i mostly played sports games on the SNES.
As for Mike Myers and Adam sandler: I heard that Mike Myers basically offended many of the people he worked with in the industry, and he himself lost heart after “The Love Guru” was criticalled panned. As for Sandler: He has a fan base that supports him (I’ve only liked the films “The Wedding Singer” and “Reign Over Me”; his CD’s are alright, I think), which means his films make a profit, which in turns makes those who work for the studio very happy. Also, other actors like working with him because his sets are easygoing (to me, it’s just Sandler and his buddies screwing around and getting paid for it).

It’s a shame you guys didn’t play Yoshi’s Safari. It was a completely underrated Super Scope game (and the only one I owned as a kid for quite a while). The boss battles were the highlight and I thought the levels were pretty diverse and scenic, especially for a rail shooter.

    • August 7, 2014 at 2:03 pm

Good point about Yoshi’s Safari. I owned that, Battle Clash and Super Scope 6 back in the day. Yoshi’s Safari was totally underrated. It was a great game for what it was, and I’ll never forget how large the bosses were… I mean Bowser almost literally covered the entire screen.

Given the Wiimotes, I think it would make a decent port with a little extra work to convert Wiimote input into Super Scope input.

  • August 7, 2014 at 2:21 pm

you are missing the pin hole eyepiece on the scope. its a lot more accurate with that. try it again with that piece on the reticule and you will be really good with it.

  • August 7, 2014 at 6:46 pm

james what happened to your upper lip? is that just a new thing when you smile? just curiuos

  • August 8, 2014 at 12:58 am

Oh my God!! are you two kidding me with Battle Clash?? This Game happens to be one of my favorite shooting games for the SNES period! I can’t believe you guys don’t know how to play the game lol. You let your power meter power up and shoot the opponent in the week spot.. holding the button down is a defense mechanism to shoot the projectiles lol now that you know, play the game until the end, its awsome

  • August 8, 2014 at 1:07 am

Battle Clash, and it’s sequel Metal Combat are actually truly awesome games (especially Metal Combat). The thing you guys are missing is that you can charge up super shots with your gun that can block enemy bullets and seriously damage the enemies. You can make really quick work out of them by blowing off their arms and legs, etc, and some of the later battles have a lot of strategy regarding enemy body parts. Maybe we’ll fire up Metal Combat and give it a play on our channel as well. Cue marginally shameless plug: https://www.youtube.com/user/Retromancers

Watching you play Battle Clash was like watching someone play Super Mario who couldn’t find the jump button. Of course the game sucked for you, you didn’t understand how to play it. Try it again using charged blasts, it’s a genuinely enjoyable game. Also, Battleclash 2 is awesome.

  • 16-bit gamer22

    August 9, 2014 at 6:58 am

You guys didn’t give Battle Clash a fair shake! That first guy is super easy. You have to wait for your shots to charge first and then shoot his chest. Battle Clash was honestly one of my favorite games as a kid. You guys should also play Yoshi’s Safari sometime.

    • August 9, 2014 at 2:50 pm

IKR that review was akin to driving a Ferrari(or any other fast car) and saying its slow cause you didn’t shift the gears.

  • DarkD

    August 10, 2014 at 5:49 am

The calibration for the superscope isn’t off. You’re missing the eyepiece for the scope. It also works badly for people with glasses. You have to press that thing right against your eyeball.

  • DarkD

    August 10, 2014 at 6:01 am

Super Scope is a lot better than you gave it credit, however it was hard to use, so of course it never made it into the mainstream, but it did work. Maybe the games you played sucked, I played the Yoshi’s Safari for super scope, and that was fun as hell.

  • August 24, 2014 at 3:14 am

Hey guys don’t forget to check out Yoshi’s Safari. That’s probably the only remotely good superscope game if there is any to be had.

  • September 4, 2014 at 1:10 am

    Hey Guys,

Great video, this brings back memories. I just wanted to give you guys a little tip for BattleClash. You need to let the meter charge then fire you’re weapon to do more damage and not hold it down. Keep those videos rolling.

  • September 4, 2014 at 6:42 am

You’ll probably find the glass lense in the gun has become warped causing it to produce erratically formed signals, hence why calibrating it works for some things and not other things.

I have a Light Gun for the PS2 which has a LED laser pointer attachment and you can calibrate it so the LED Laser Pointer works correctly… until you you shoot anywhere except where you were shooting during calibration >.> (When it was new it worked fine)

  • September 6, 2014 at 8:34 am

I used to spam the machine gun at first, too. THEN the game straight-out tells you that the machine gun sucks balls and you should use charged shots.

Which basically means stop shooting for a second. Once I figured that out, I made it pretty far into the game before I had to return the rental.

  • skwij

    September 11, 2014 at 4:20 am

I have a friend that played through Battleclash and I got to watch. He played through it, and it was pretty cool. It didn’t seem like a piece of shit or even a whole shit. I dunno. Whether you guys liked it or not, it was hilarious watching you play. Thanks for the video!

  • Mitsukara

    October 1, 2014 at 3:20 am

You guys should’ve played Yoshi’s Safari, that game’s awesome. Definitely the best Super Scope game I’ve played.

    March 18, 2015 at 10:22 pm

Your sister was probably just disagreeing to rile you up because that is clearly saying “good luck”.

  • August 22, 2015 at 4:50 pm

You have to let your gun charge!

Battleclash is seriously an epic game. It completely redeems the super scope. I have waited for years to see you guys tackle that game on the shit bazooka…and you didn’t play it right! Not letting the gun charge is like bringing piss to a shit fight.
