  • Ben_from_G-town

    July 28, 2014 at 1:41 am

Haha jeez. It really says something when one of the most exciting things in the game is hitting a seagull while playing hacky sack! 😀

  • K6CTX

    July 28, 2014 at 1:49 am

I’m happy to say that I have never played this ass bag of a game.

  • Don Skiver

    July 28, 2014 at 2:00 am

I was just thinking about that skate lane in the game and how it is the absolute shittiest skate lane I have ever seen at a beach. It’s in such terrible shape, with all kinds of trash and the concrete is all fucked up…damn.

  • July 28, 2014 at 2:51 am

remember the super nintendo version being good.

  • Slamraptor

    July 28, 2014 at 2:56 am

The C64 version was awesome. Didn’t know that the NES didn’t. ^^

  • herrkilman

    July 28, 2014 at 3:13 am

Yup. The C64-version of California Games is much better. As is all Epyx’s The Games-sports. All of these games are quite uneven, but the overall charm and range of the games makes up for it. The NES-ports are pretty poor, though.

  • July 28, 2014 at 3:40 am

Wow, I’ve never even heard of this game. Great job guys!!!

  • skwij

    July 28, 2014 at 5:05 am

  • taykel

    July 28, 2014 at 7:06 am

  • July 28, 2014 at 7:35 am

    J&M mondies are the bess

  • July 28, 2014 at 8:18 am

    Top shit m8! 😀

  • The Wicker Man

    July 28, 2014 at 8:33 am

The C64 version was far superior, especially for sound because of the awesome SID chip!

  • Hans Grosse

    July 28, 2014 at 9:18 am

I reccommend (For James and Mike Mondays) either The Punisher for PS2 or a game in the Dead Rising series(preferably 2). That would be interesting!

  • Glorious Gerbil

    July 28, 2014 at 9:32 am

Bootsy is right, The Commodore 64 version is the one to play!
One of my favourite C64 games.

  • Pablo1989

    July 28, 2014 at 10:15 am

If not mistaken, on MS-Dos version 😀 there skateboard game takes action inside some storm drain tunnel system, and if you bump wall at full speed in beginning of tight tunnel YOU DEAD!

and then appears screen what shows up friends of skateboarder crying over his grave made from skateboard with RIP writen on it.

Whole week waiting for 7! minutes long video. And the James&MIke mondays are different than they been in the beginning.

  • July 28, 2014 at 11:36 am

Wow this game look really bad if compared to the Master System version.

  • DON

    July 28, 2014 at 12:05 pm

All you do is falling flat on your face…sounds like a debatable concept for a game to me 😀

  • July 28, 2014 at 12:17 pm

James and Mike can you please just make it official and change mondays to James, Mike, and Boosty Play Mondays?

  • July 28, 2014 at 1:23 pm

I loved Cali Games, I played it on C64 mostly like Bootsy… Did you guys know that all stages have some hidden thing in them? Some are more Obvious than others.

Skateboarding: When it says Game Over don’t press a button, if you are lucky there will be an Earthquake and the Screen will shake.

Footbag: I think the hidden thing in this is hitting the Seagul like you guys did.

Surfing: Shark / Dolphin after a wipeout

Skating: Can’t remember the easter egg on this one

BMX: I don’t think this stage has an easter egg

Flying Disc: This one of my favorite, do a really bad throw dropping the frisbee almost right in front of you, wait a while and watch the rader where you can see the other person, if you are lucky a UFO will come and obduct them!

These were all from the C64 version I asume they are in the NES Version too 🙂

  • July 28, 2014 at 1:26 pm

update: video of the UFO in the C64 Version, this says the NES is missing this…shame :/

  • July 28, 2014 at 2:31 pm

The game is fun, they just don’t know how to play most of the games.

    July 28, 2014 at 3:44 pm

Love to see Bad Luck Bootsy. James, you’ve got great friends. I don’t need friends: all I have to do is pop on one of these videos and hear you guys wisecracken for ten minutes and I’m good. Much more efficient socializing for an introvert like me.

  • nammm3

    July 28, 2014 at 4:16 pm

Wow, I didn’t think that game was so fun. I have always heard and seen this game around growing up but surprisingly, I never tried it.

  • Colton Hamilton

    July 28, 2014 at 4:59 pm

So, basically you guys played shitty excite bike and dare I say shitty skate or die!!! Great vid guys, laughed my ass off!!!

  • GameCom

    July 28, 2014 at 7:25 pm

    July 28, 2014 at 7:32 pm

    • KingMike

      July 28, 2014 at 9:07 pm

    • Weldin Dunn

  • bobby brady

    July 28, 2014 at 8:25 pm

    fuckin eh righties.

  • Mattashell

    July 28, 2014 at 9:02 pm

Can you guys show the Commodore version?

  • Weldin Dunn

    July 28, 2014 at 11:33 pm

You know, I remember this. But not well. I just though it was like the nes version of “airborne”, a crappy movie. Just watch the nostalgia critic for a shorter, less painful version.

  • Chris

    July 29, 2014 at 12:55 am

The version that came with the Atari Lynx was pretty good. Looked better, better controls. For 15 minutes and then you would have to get new batteries. 🙂 I wonder if it is closer to the Commodore version ?

  • July 29, 2014 at 2:42 am

Play War of the Monsters on ps2! It’s right up your guys alley!!

  • July 29, 2014 at 5:25 am

Yeah the c64 version was pretty good!!!! I owned one as a kid and some c64 versions were better then Nintendo versions and vice versa.

  • Spawny

    July 29, 2014 at 12:07 pm

Classic on Floppy for the Amiga 500 too !

  • Lars Nordstrom

    July 29, 2014 at 7:59 pm

You have to give the developers some kudos for getting parallax scrolling out of the NES. If you’re going to keep getting three people, I recommend checking out “Three Dirty Dwarves” on the Saturn.

  • Carl Thomsen

    July 29, 2014 at 11:48 pm

Ah, California Games. I was really impressed by the Atari 2600 version when I was a kid, though that says a lot more about the lack of quality of the games on the 2600 than anything good about California Games. The BMX game was the one I played the most.

I don’t know if this has ever been posted, but google “the way back machine”. It has cinemassacre archived all the way back to 2003. It’s so cool to see his site back in it’s infancy.

    July 30, 2014 at 9:44 am

The Epyx Games series were some of the best games for the C64, it’s a shame all the NES ports suck. Though, shitty ports were par for the course back then.

  • July 30, 2014 at 4:07 pm

I remember playing this on Amiga and it didn’t suck at all. It was a really fun game!

  • Ballzdeep

    July 31, 2014 at 12:59 am

  • Senna4ever

    July 31, 2014 at 6:49 am

The Epyx “Games” series was great fun…on home computers.

The NES ports were shit…as were a lot of NES ports.

  • jdub

    July 31, 2014 at 12:34 pm

Would love to see you guys play Mario Kart

  • July 31, 2014 at 8:01 pm

California Games was also better on the Sega Master System.

  • Ballzdeep

    August 2, 2014 at 1:21 am

    Great ending guys.

  • Grandmasterp

    August 2, 2014 at 6:37 pm

This must be Jimmy’s favorite game from the wizard movie….”California.”

  • August 30, 2014 at 10:23 am

I like that they never realized that skating off the pavement (Towards the camera) and/or in to the sand would make you fall over… They even know about it in the bmx game (I think) dammit!

  • November 9, 2014 at 2:49 am

My sides were hurting from laughing at that Frisbee game! Oh, man.

  • no no

    June 26, 2015 at 12:55 am
