Wow this brings back some memories
March 17, 2014 at 12:06 am
Great video guys, Whens the next nerd?
March 17, 2014 at 12:04 pm
It would have been much better if they’d checked the menu screen or the manual about how you can RUN, which enables you to jump higher.
March 18, 2014 at 9:48 am
Yea for whatever reason, they don’t actually figure out how to play these Monday’s games before trying them. It kind of sucks and makes these vids more boring, and them look like sucky gamers…
March 18, 2014 at 9:50 am
I mean, I’m a long time fan and all, but FFS, before making these vids at least take a peek on gamefaqs.com before playing/taping if you don’t have the game manual.
July 31, 2014 at 8:52 pm
the point hes trying to make about looking it up is that you couldnt do that when these games came out. suppose you dont have the manual and you were left to figure it out on your own. this is a testament to that
October 2, 2015 at 8:55 am
If you rented it you didn’t get the manual and we didn’t have internet to look it up.
March 17, 2014 at 12:07 am
just so you guys know, Roo is doing a speedrun of back to the future NES live in honor of JewWario 😛 (they’re doing a charity drive)
March 17, 2014 at 12:09 am
Ahhh Ocean was to me what LJN could have been for you. Well, its games were not nearly as shitty but whenever I rented one I knew I was in for a long game that more often than not didn’t include a save feature.
March 17, 2014 at 12:19 am
I have to say I was laughing so hard when you said “top two tv shows with famous neighbors named wilson”! hahahahahaha, so good!
March 17, 2014 at 12:20 am
PS, i was disappointed not to see your named listed on the PAX east schedule. I was really hoping you’d stop by, but I understand you must be busy with the movie.
March 17, 2014 at 12:21 am
sorry “top 2 famous neighbors in tv sitcoms named wilson”
March 17, 2014 at 12:31 am
wow that was frustrating as fuck! im going to youtube right now,I have to know what to do. One video a week is not enough! Hey mike, do you have a day job other than cinemassacre? Ive always wondered that
March 17, 2014 at 12:32 am
The only thing you both missed is that Dennis can run.. That would made everything easier.
March 17, 2014 at 12:47 am
Yes, dennis can run (which would make outrunning wilson easier). Also mike, you were right. Lure mr wilson out, hop on the bed, follow him to the jack in the box, jump on the jack in the box and let it spring you up so you can hit the switch! You guys were so close. Just hold Y to run… same controls as donkey kong country. This should be intuitive man!
March 17, 2014 at 1:41 am
Yeah, I was thinking that the whole time, and I haven’t even played the game.
Sometimes when watching James & Mike Monday’s, I get really frustrated by the fact that they don’t seem to be able to figure out a lot of these simple facts. They are the people instruction manuals were made for…
Don’t get me wrong, I love Cinemassacre and everything, but sometimes they just seem stupid when doing these videos…
March 17, 2014 at 10:44 am
I like the way they do it. This is how kids in the 90ties would have done it. I would have looked it up in the internet abput 4 Minutes into this.. but it is nice that James and Mike try to figure it out by themselves.. which includes to oversee small details (in this case running). 30000 people watching this and of course some will figure it out. But this represents basicaly a gaming experience pre-internet: 2 guys on one silly game, trying stuff. I like it.
March 17, 2014 at 1:19 pm
there’s no excuse … same laws apply in Super Mario Bros. … you would have had the same problem.
i mean, there’s a lot of terrible plat-formers that don’t have a ‘run’ feature … but don’t miss the ‘run’ feature and then judge the game in any respect … remove this video posting.
March 17, 2014 at 4:07 pm
they don’t have to remove the video haha. They are just playing the game and having fun. Nothing wrong with that.
March 18, 2014 at 9:57 am
But it’s boring, and embarrassing to their gaming ability.
March 17, 2014 at 11:30 pm
They’re reviewing an early 90s game. In games that old you had to actually read the manual to learn how to play. Those games didn’t have those annoying tutorials where characters break the fourth wall to tell you “to make me run press the Y button”, so you had to read the manual (or at least, if it was just a simple platformer such as this, you had to try all buttons to see what they do, since no ones explains them in the game).
March 17, 2014 at 12:33 am
I remember this awful game, rent it as a kid… whole weekend ruined HAHA. back in the day you just had to play it to find out. this is a message from another mysterious timezone, still march 16 in here.
March 17, 2014 at 12:55 am
How come everyone who does a video on this game mentions the 50’s sitcom, but not the original comic strip?
March 17, 2014 at 1:00 am
I’m guessing not everybody liked the strip nowadays. Hell whenever I read it now, I just call him Dennis the Asshole because of how meaner and unlikeable he has become!
March 17, 2014 at 1:50 am
Hey guys Bobby Brady here,Hellsing920 had a similar experience with this game.Thats wild huh?
March 17, 2014 at 1:53 am
HEY MR. WILSON!
March 17, 2014 at 1:54 am
I love it when James starts ranting about the game. xDD
It’s like we’re seeing his actual angry nerd self. Lol.
March 17, 2014 at 2:02 am
It’s not a bad game, when you know what the controls are (standard controls – jump B, run by holding Y, just like Super Mario).
Considering that cirka 70-80% of all SNES games uses the same controls as Super Mario World, it shouldn’t be that difficult figuring it out…
March 17, 2014 at 2:08 am
please consider Jim Power in the 3-D Dimension or w/e it is, a wildly visual SNES game and its actually a decent game challenging and great graphics.
btw Mike if you read this I’d love to see you do some complete long Lets plays of games like Super Mario 3-D World, you provide good commentary from a classic gamers perspective
March 17, 2014 at 2:27 am
This game, at least stylistically, reminds me of “Wayne’s World”. Like “Wayne’s World”, this game seems to be more trouble than it is worth.
March 17, 2014 at 2:58 am
Seemed like places where you would power jump, or running jump. Nothing other then a normal jump? Really?! Guess you guys had no manual either? No really, this jumping thing has really got me perplexed …
I’m not sure what is worse about those cats … the sound they make, or how they look …
March 17, 2014 at 3:19 am
I use walkthroughs all the time, but getting through the first stage of a SNES game should not require one.
March 17, 2014 at 3:20 am
Wow, that was painful to watch. U guys didn’t even try every button in the controller, good job.
March 17, 2014 at 3:25 am
Cool story, bro. When’s the next AVGN?
March 17, 2014 at 4:14 am
American Dennis the Menace is a pansy compared to British Dennis the Menace.
March 17, 2014 at 4:29 am
Me and my older brother would like you two to try “Worm: Journey to the Center of the Earth”
March 17, 2014 at 4:44 am
It’s a SNES it has more buttons, and apparently you can run. This was not even on wikipedia but i had to look at comments on this video to know that.
Such an highly regarded game from the press, i see. But yeah, it’s Home Alone 2, Tom & Jerry and Bugs Bunny games. Collect stuff to unlock the exit. I don’t like this kind of games, it’s just…do pointless things to get ahead. How about killing all enemies on screen to get ahead, that’s more likely. Don’t tell me that you can’t do that because it’s a kids game, you’re killing cats here. Yeah.
March 17, 2014 at 4:54 am
I enjoy those videos 🙂 It is always funny to see James & Mike pretend to be total clueless newbies and then complain about not making any progress.
I hope you realize you can hold “Y” to run. That’s the classic control scheme to do so – straight from Super Mario World.
Once you run it is quite easy to make progress and to avoid Mr. Wilsons.
March 17, 2014 at 4:59 am
So Mr Wilson is a crazy cat lady?
March 17, 2014 at 5:20 am
You boys need to break out The Incredible Crash Dummies (Genesis) sometime soon. Talk about high-speed ass-out bumblefuckery!
March 17, 2014 at 6:01 am
God you idiots have you tried running by holding the Y button? And you guys are supposed to be hardcore gamers
March 17, 2014 at 6:44 am
It always surprises me how you’re both actually obviously very bad at video games. Not to say that it isn’t a horrible game, but you didn’t even try running and there’s a clear health meter there with hearts and all and still Mike thought that the gas isn’t hurting you. Wtf?
March 17, 2014 at 7:03 am
RTFM!!! Read the fucking manual!
You guys *never* read the manual, it seems. Yeah, you shouldn’t have to go on gamefaqs to figure these games out, but at the very least you should learn the control scheme (like which button is the RUN BUTTON) so every attempt isn’t made in vain.
But I still love you guys, and I still love your videos. It’s just sometimes it’s frustrating to watch you guys stumble through a game that I *know* you’re capable of beating if you had only gave the manual a cursory glance…
March 17, 2014 at 11:32 am
They probably don’t have the manual for an old piece of shit game like that.
March 18, 2014 at 10:10 pm
its in the game menu under controls…
March 17, 2014 at 7:19 am
Finally an SNES play
March 17, 2014 at 8:06 am
This game deserves an AVGN episode. It looks frustrating and unplayable. Good episode guys. Definitely looking forward to next week.
March 17, 2014 at 8:09 am
I think all these requests stemmed from the Game Grumps play through. Do I even need to do the Mr. Wilson rap?
March 17, 2014 at 8:11 am
I think you guys needed to use the water gun on the plants.. lol.
March 17, 2014 at 9:14 am
My name is Mr. Wilson and I’m here to say
I’m gonna smack your ass in a major way
What are you doing in basement? Get outta here!
GET OUTTA HERE!!!
March 17, 2014 at 9:15 am
I thought Wilson was Saddam Hussein for a second there.
March 17, 2014 at 9:40 am
You guys should do a good game for once. I would love to see James & Mike Mondays playing Zelda a link to the past. We all know that game but it would be fun to hear your opinions about it. Maybe your favorite puzzles, bosses, items and dungeons. I´d enjoy watching that 🙂
March 17, 2014 at 9:43 am
In the future you should play the LaserActive laserdisk console. All games was made by Sega except for three, made by NEC (educational garbage those from NEC though) They are hard to get hold of though as noone was stupid enough to pay 2500USD back in 1993 for a game system+expansion modules (the modules was absolutley nessecary unless you wanted to use it only as a laserdisk player)
March 17, 2014 at 10:06 am
I still want to see you two play that Clowns game in the background. I don’t even know what it is, I just want to see it. I bet it’s pure garbage soaked in medical waste.
March 17, 2014 at 10:07 am
How to beat the level: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l452LUfXUz4 The SNES port of the game is just awful. Look in the video for the amiga version.
March 17, 2014 at 10:11 am
OMG, my friend had this game when we were kids and we could never get past the first level either!
March 17, 2014 at 10:42 am
My name is Mister Wilson and I’m here to say!
I’m gonna smack your ass in a major way!
What are you doin’ in my basement? Get outta here!
GET OUTTA HERE!
Sorry, Game Grumps fan, and this brings back all the memories of THEIR time with this game.
March 17, 2014 at 10:54 am
Guys you should play some of the DR franken series. Yeah you heard me right dr franken was a series. There are 2 on gameboy and 1 Very obscure one on the nes. and 1 on the SNES wich you have already played. I had the GB version a million years ago
March 17, 2014 at 11:02 am
It was exactly what you were thinking. Follow Mr. Wilson and wait for the jump using the jack box. Its just hard on SNES, Wilson is so fast and linear movement suck.
Its far easier on Amiga version.
March 17, 2014 at 11:23 am
Dennis The Menace is still on here in The netherlands lol
March 17, 2014 at 11:31 am
You should use the game manuals when you have them, or at least look up the official game manuals online. It would still keep it authentic without ruining the experience with a walkthrough.
Long story short, I bet the manual would have said that you can run. :p
March 17, 2014 at 11:55 am
Simple Answer.. You guys aren’t sprinting.. your walking.. You can sprint away from Mr. Wilson
March 17, 2014 at 12:03 pm
Please read the manual next time, you guys missed that you can RUN, which enables you to jump higher. – It is explained in the option menu as well!
March 17, 2014 at 12:33 pm
These videos are far more interesting than the nerd videos nowadays. Nerd has seen his best days. This is far more interessting to watch.
Dennis the menace seems like a real generic piece of boring crap though
March 17, 2014 at 1:54 pm
Mr. Wilson is scarier than Slenderman
March 17, 2014 at 1:56 pm
I think You have to collect all coins and then the door with untouchable coins in front of them opens
March 17, 2014 at 2:19 pm
Great videos guys, next time if you don’t want to see the things on the internet try go to the options menu in the game, perhaps there it is a controller setting stuff and you can see what does each button do
March 17, 2014 at 2:41 pm
You guys made it to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_the_Menace_%28film%29
March 17, 2014 at 2:47 pm
Two videos in a row that would have been more entertaining if you guys read the controls first. This is something that you have to do to play a game. I can’t believe I have to explain this to the likes of MM and JRTAVGN. These weren’t failures on the part of the developers.
March 17, 2014 at 4:29 pm
Mr. Wilson looks like Josef Stalin.
March 17, 2014 at 4:50 pm
Little did they know Y lets you run to make more difficult jumps. The game still isn’t good though.
March 17, 2014 at 5:23 pm
First time posting on this site! 🙂 I’ve tried to before. Wow. Nice. I’ve seen play throughout before. In your Twitter description when y’all said “Watch us suck at Dennis The Menace”. Just sayin’
March 17, 2014 at 6:48 pm
Hey Mike, you and James should play Super Street Fighter 2 on SNES next week!
March 17, 2014 at 7:06 pm
I know it has been said many of times already, but I am just as frustrated as everyone else. First of all, how did you not try every button on the controller? The one ability that would have solved every problem you guys were encountering would be to run. Secondly, how did you guys not realize the health meter at the top of the screen? In pretty much any video game, especially older ones, hearts mean health. You guys produce some of the coolest videos on the planet and your hard work is inspirational. I’m glad you guys get to do what you love, keep up the good work.
March 17, 2014 at 7:26 pm
What your doing wrong is your not running with the “Y” button to increase your ability to jump higher, longer gaps, and to out run Mr. Wilson. Also if you go into the options screen, you’ll notice that the game is programed to start on the Hard setting with 5 lives. You can lower the difficulty to Easy, and add up to 9 lives.
March 17, 2014 at 7:28 pm
Then again maybe you deliberately didn’t press “Y” to get the board stirred up.
March 17, 2014 at 8:27 pm
Also to get the switch you run from Mr Wilson, then follow him back. you jump on the jack-in-the-box and jump as it comes out, and you spring up onto the ledge.
Man, I hate to be another guy complaining about free entertainment, but half the jokes are about how you can’t jump far enough to reach platforms! It’s like if you were playing Zelda, never thought to go get the sword and then complained about how impossible the game was.
March 17, 2014 at 8:39 pm
Hey James and Mike! Check out this Video of Dennis 😉 This is how you’re supposed to do this!
March 18, 2014 at 12:38 am
Oh Ocean games… sad.. Hows about some “Culture Brain” games?!
March 18, 2014 at 1:00 am
you guys should play this semi-new indie Jhon Carpenter’s halloween game that came out, it’s not really good, but ceartainly better than any other halloween game and captures the mood really well, like the new Godzilla games, it’s the game you always wished for that movie(the name changed for copyrigth issues, but is still the same game)
also really eager to see hopw ths new alien game is goign to be, looks promising.
March 18, 2014 at 3:41 am
My name is Mr. Wilson and I’m here to say, I’m gonna smack your ass in a major way! What are ya doin’ in my basement get outta here……. GET OUTTA HERE!
March 18, 2014 at 11:40 am
i am usually a big fan of james&mike monday’s, but i gotta tell ya, this one sucked.
seriously, you guys didn’t think there might be a run button kinda like in… i don’t know… super mario bros? have you ever heard of that game?
i really thought it ended up beeing quite monotonous seeing the first part of the game for 20 minutes straight. you guys are funny indeed, but video and substance wise it felt thin.
March 18, 2014 at 1:34 pm
Come on guys. Running to jump farther and higher is a staple of platform games! 😛 It was so frustrating to me that you never tried that.
March 18, 2014 at 6:39 pm
Mr. Wilson looks like Saddam Hussein
March 18, 2014 at 9:42 pm
It’s been said numerous times already but no matter how lousy this game is your main criticisms weren’t fair. You guys owe this one another go-around.
March 18, 2014 at 10:02 pm
Im a big avgn fan but come on guys it’s not that hard to figure out Y is to run. I mean that was painful watch. Your skill level with these games should be much higher than what it seems like it is. Growing up in the same era as I did most of the controls are just common sense. When you do james and mike mondays it seems like your dumbing down your skills to play these games. Id rather see you kick the games ass and call it a piece of crap rather than spend 20min on the same spot of the game. Just my thoughts, but I still enjoy watching your videos.
March 19, 2014 at 5:07 am
never played this game before… glad i did not… i heard the game boy version is worse. cause if Mr. Wilson catches you it’s automatic game over. does not matter how many lives you have left. your game is over!! speaking of which have you guys ever thought of playing gameboy games on the super gameboy for J&M mondays? i wanna see an epsoide like that once.
March 19, 2014 at 6:06 am
Man this game does look like a mess… The giganto headed Mr. Wilson is creepy O_O!
Hahahah …. and I’m laughing too at how many ppl this vid has sent to that random YouTube walk through…
March 19, 2014 at 7:04 am
Great video, you guys. It was hilarious. I was laughing my ass off for a good part of it. The frustration of trying to figure out these old games and the banter is half the fun. 😀
March 19, 2014 at 7:29 am
Ninja Golf 7800
March 19, 2014 at 11:28 pm
I love you guys, but this was really a shitty video, the Y button runs, like every other SNES game ever made! Like Donkey Kong or Super Mario. Should have figured that one out pretty easy guys!
March 20, 2014 at 12:50 am
I think Mr.Wilson was walking because you were farther away from him the previous time because it seemed like once he got close he started to run, just my guess.
March 20, 2014 at 1:02 am
Inorder to complete the level you have to collect 4 big coins, that is when you’re able to grab the coin that you weren’t able to get before. The one with the smaller coins circling around it James wasn’t able to get.
March 20, 2014 at 9:05 am
Most of those movie based shits are one and the same,a huge place that you dont know where to go searching for what to do.If that was based on the cartoon series and not in the movie having of course the proper company to do the magic then would probably better.Ocean as a company was pretty nice much better than ljn,but thought they did great work in the style a game looks by trying to make something more complex they just ruined the fun.Even today most of the trashes that are based on movies are not so well made, rushed to go to the market even before the movie release and the results are not so safisfying.Anyway good times having you two playing some games, but since you are on to showing games like in general make some other games like the newer castlevania,or something like modnation that is a cool clone of super mario cart.Just to make the comparisons.I would love to see titles like those in your videos.
March 21, 2014 at 11:22 am
I liked the cat screech at the end 🙂
March 21, 2014 at 2:12 pm
I’m glad I’m not the only one who mistook Mr. Wilson for Saddam Hussein at first… I can relate to the frustration of “giving one last try”. Even though the game may suck, you can’t help but wonder just what in the hell the programmers are trying to get you to do… Spider Man, Ren & Stimpy, some parts of Bart’s Nightmare, Home Alone, Batman Forever… I guess a lot of licensed titles are kind of unclear. Oh, well. Thanks for the video!
March 22, 2014 at 8:36 am
WTF is Wilson doing with all of these cats!?!?
March 22, 2014 at 12:27 pm
James can you do a review of the new Godzilla movie it came out on the 16th
March 22, 2014 at 9:51 pm
“Since the ledge is too high to jump onto, you will have to get hit by the cat jumping back and forth. Once you do this, you will fly upward onto the ledge.” – Actual quote from the only FAQ on gamefaqs. Looks like you called it Mike 😛 There’s this too – “Jump onto the box and wit of the jack to pop out. It will send you into the air. Float onto the ledge where the cat is jumping. Make sure to do this fast or Mr.Wilson will catch you.”
July 9, 2014 at 11:06 am
I can’t believe you guys would be so dumb as to not try out the Y button for so long. C’mon guys you would think after all the games you played you would test out the controls before you make a video and act like you have no clue for an hour. Do us a favor and just do a tad bit of research o n a game before you make these vids that show you failing miserably while thinking the game sucks when actually you didn’t take a sec to learn.
July 9, 2014 at 11:30 am
For being such big gaming personalities you guys really no so little about actual gameplay. Every old school gamer knows that you can almost always jump higher by running and jumping. How could you blank on this simple concept?
July 9, 2014 at 12:27 pm
Wow no offense , I mean I really love you guys and your show but how could you be so dense? I dont understand how youre logic didnt tell you to RUN from and enemy that is chasing you. Or you never once thought oh if i could only speed up some how. How many platforming games do you know of that doesnt have a run function? This goes wayyyy back to prob before mario.
July 9, 2014 at 12:28 pm
Wow no offense , I mean I really love you guys and your show but how could you be so dense? January 14, 2015 at 2:39 pm
You gotta take a hit to get higher
Cinemassacre has spoken!
April 21, 2015 at 6:00 am
Well, I tried the game out, and as far as I can tell, you’re supposed to collect all the coins (small and big), then go back to those spinning coins, and you can go on. Holding Y will make Dennis run, which will allow you to make those tricky long jumps. I still don’t know how you’re supposed to get on the stoves unharmed, though.
You ARE supposed to outrun Mr. Wilson, (remember the Y button!) then go back and stand on the Jack-in-a-box, which will launch you upwards, allowing you to land on the platform with the cat. From there, you should be able to reach the switch. Attacking it will activate it, lowering a rope ladder elsewhere so you can climb into the attic.
In the basement, you can find a peashooter, but it only shoots straight, making it useless against mice unless you crouch down. I say, stick with the slingshot.
November 10, 2015 at 10:00 pm
Goddamnit Mike you were killin me with that fucking cat sound effect lmao!
