Grats James. Can’t wait
December 30, 2013 at 6:46 pm
You have reached a major milestone! Congrats! Can’t wait for the movie… Well… I can… No need to rush… I’m just really excited.
December 30, 2013 at 6:52 pm
Yeah man, the movie looks awesome. You knocked Monster Madness right out of the f’n park this year. It is cool seeing someone the same age as me making this kind of stuff work while I’m behind a desk all day. Good luck man, Happy New Year!
December 30, 2013 at 6:57 pm
Great work dude, we appreciate your hard work more than you know.
December 30, 2013 at 7:04 pm
James, i know hoe you feel. This year was fucked up. Even for me. Next year i’m filming my own movie and that’s going to e hell. I don’t really have to suffer througj the effects process,, but i’m 15, so yeah, gonna be hell. Can’t wait though man.
December 30, 2013 at 7:06 pm
damn, my keyboard is not responsive to typing. I miss spelled a lot in that last comment.
January 1, 2014 at 11:42 am
It’s okay. It’s no matter that the movie’s going to “e” hell.
January 1, 2014 at 11:43 am
It’s okay. It’s no matter that the movie’s gonna “e” hell.
December 30, 2013 at 7:08 pm
Bah! A movie could cost a billion dollars but that doesn’t mean it won’t turn out a steaming puddle of cannibal dysentery. Your movie will be awesome because it’s going to connect with so many people on a personal level just like AVGN. So excited to see it!
December 30, 2013 at 7:08 pm
Awesome
December 30, 2013 at 7:17 pm
Also, nobody has told you guys about Fraps? Great program for capturing video on your PC. Check it out if you haven’t already.
December 30, 2013 at 7:31 pm
Fraps didn’t work for the majority of the games featured in the episode.
December 31, 2013 at 7:59 am
Try OBS or Dxstory next time.
March 12, 2014 at 7:58 pm
If Fraps didn’t work, why not just stick to the DVD recorder that you have been using? The DVD recorder should have composite and S-video input and some even have DVI and HDMI input, but whatever DVR recorder you have, they make a simple USB dongle that has any of those outputs, so what ever you see on the screen, it will go to the recorder.
Fraps probably didnt work because you either bought a laptop or just a weak desktop, fraps takes alot or memory and CPU power, but Fraps works on anything, there is no way that you have a game that it wont record, it would have to have been the computer, wish I was there, I would have gotten it to work. I am good with that stuff…
December 31, 2013 at 12:20 pm
I was wondering why not just use the good ol’ DVD recorder? I only have a laptop, so I wanted to play AVGN Adventures on the TV and I used a DVD-R to set it up and record. Regardless, all the games looked great.
December 30, 2013 at 7:23 pm
If you need to take a break (like even two full months), don’t hesitate, because if their’s one person deserving of it, that’d be you.
Happy Christmas & New Year to you too, and thanks for all your work
!
December 30, 2013 at 7:24 pm
there*
December 30, 2013 at 7:46 pm
Congratulations!
December 30, 2013 at 7:58 pm
Good to hear! relax
December 30, 2013 at 8:08 pm
Thanks for the update. We will all patiently wait for it while enjoying all the other stuff you come out with. Thanks for all of your efforts, for James, Mike, your families and everyone else working on this project!
December 30, 2013 at 8:13 pm
Awesome man. I cannot wait to buy this thing from you. Thanks for all your hard work.
December 30, 2013 at 8:21 pm
No matter how long it takes to get the movie out I know it’s going to be amazing. At least there was no accident on the sets like twilight zone.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru6I9Cc9XnE
James can be thankful for this.
December 30, 2013 at 8:31 pm
Awesome story about the Fire Marshall! haha! It’s great to hear what James has accomplished this far
December 30, 2013 at 8:48 pm
Thanks for the update James. As always, make sure you squeeze in a bit of R&R time to make sure you don’t go insane. I’d laugh if they actually made and put Ghostbusters III in theaters before the Nerd movie was done.
December 30, 2013 at 8:49 pm
Cannot wait! Best of luck James and Happy Mōdraniht, Yule 12th Night and Happy New Year.
December 30, 2013 at 8:52 pm
Im looking forward to this movie more than Star Wars 7 and Avengers 2 combined. Your a genius James, a true artist!
December 30, 2013 at 8:53 pm
I love to see pics of any movie without knowing what they are for; I really like speculating and imagining. I wonder if we’ll get a hidden antagonist… I’ll hope for one!
December 30, 2013 at 9:01 pm
I enjoy all of your projects James.I gotta visit Vasques Rocks just because the Nerd movie was filed there:)
December 30, 2013 at 9:04 pm
Alright, I’m proud of you man. Take as much time as you need. It makes me feel better knowing how close we are.
December 30, 2013 at 9:19 pm
Yeah, I’ve had that creativity rush thing, sometimes you just feel that if things don’t get done for that video or for that time, then the chance is gone forever. But there’s something that time, people and experience have taught me and that is that if you’re creative, it’s never too late: A creative person always manages, like how you added the “extra stuff” to previous episodes in that Back to the Future Revisited one. I really hope you get the rest that you deserve in January, hopefully sooner.
December 30, 2013 at 9:20 pm
I have the utmost admiration and respect for all the hard work you and your team have put into your many projects, James. And I’m very grateful for all the wonderful content you put out on a regular basis. Hang in there! The movie’s almost done and soon you’ll be able to think about what you’d like to do next!
December 30, 2013 at 9:20 pm
Did you have a chance to check out the fan submitted videos you asked for in October?
December 30, 2013 at 9:23 pm
That fire alarm story was great.
This was an interesting video, I’d like to see more like this.
December 30, 2013 at 9:56 pm
BEST UPDATE EVER! I will so buy the movie when it’s on BluRay or iTunes!
Wish you the best James!
December 30, 2013 at 10:06 pm
Wow! Amazing how things went. I’m glad that the movie is finally done, and that you were able to finish it in spite of all the obstacles that you faced. I really look forward to seeing the movie, whenever it’s released!
P.S. I noticed that the sound on the video is a bit “muddy”. It sounds like you’re recording off of the Mac’s internal mics? Do you have a USB mic? It would make things sound a whole lot nicer! Here’s the one I use:
http://bluemic.com/yeti/
P.P.S. They also have a “Pro” version that’s about 70 bucks more. But it comes with support for professional drivers, so it would be perfect for your other projects! Only downside is… you have to download drivers for it, unlike the standard Yeti. But I’m sure it would be worth it to spring for the extra dough!
December 30, 2013 at 10:45 pm
James, I’ve been watching your stuff for a long time, I’m really happy to see you so close to finally getting this done!
Perhaps you could consider a ‘Cinemassacre 500′ this year? I always like your more personal videos, and after all you’ve been through, I imagine there’s a lot you could talk about. Still, whatever happens, I hope you have a good rest when this movie finally gets done, and I wish you a great year ahead!
December 30, 2013 at 10:47 pm
Congrats on getting all the shooting done! It must have been a relief to finally have an empty clipboard!
No need to rush the movie! 2014 would technically mark the 10 year anniversary of Simon’s Quest and Dr. Jekyll, so it’s definitely a fitting release date.
December 30, 2013 at 10:58 pm
Keep up the good work James!
December 30, 2013 at 11:40 pm
Wow, you guys couldn’t find FRAPS, DXtory, etc., etc. etc. in a couple minutes on google for recoding games on computer?
December 30, 2013 at 11:40 pm
Hey, James. With all those practical effects you’re doing in the movie you probably understand what people like Willis O’Brian and Ray Harryhausen (RIP) had to go through with all the stop motion and whatnot.
December 30, 2013 at 11:42 pm
Congrats man! Thanks for all the hard work you put into everything. I’ve loved all the videos you guys have been making this year.
December 30, 2013 at 11:55 pm
Great work James. I can’t imagine how stressful your life must have been this past year, but I’m glad to see you’re hanging in there. I’m sure it’s also been very rewarding, as the two go hand in hand it seems. I hope you can find some time to properly rest and re-energize yourself in early 2014. I was one of the military extras in this film, and I’m super excited to see the film in good time. I can tell you without a doubt, being in your film and watching you guys work was one of the best days I’ve ever had. It was just a lot of fun, and I made new friends.
One thing that should make your film easier is that you have one of the best composers working on it with Bear. I imagine this will make this part of the film’s post production easier than the other parts. I hope.
Take care of yourself and I hope I get to say hi to you again someday in the future.
December 31, 2013 at 12:07 am
oh man! What an awesome update! That fire story was hilarious/crazy/awesome!! So cool hearing you talk about those kind of things, James you had an incredible year!! Your content just gets better and better!! Here’s to 2014!!!!
December 31, 2013 at 12:17 am
Congrats James thanks for all the hard work lots of great nerd videos plus monster madness. Good luck with the rest of the editing and post production.
December 31, 2013 at 12:27 am
Thanks for the update, always appreciate your willingness to be completely open and honest with the public about your projects and personal life. Will definitely be remembering the hilarious fire alarm story when we see the rising missile shot from the movie, though…
December 31, 2013 at 12:58 am
Got teary eyed for you man when you took off the rest of that stuff off the board~
December 31, 2013 at 12:59 am
Practical > CGI, Practical + CGI is probably the best way to do things, you get the best of both worlds and the end result is perfect
December 31, 2013 at 1:06 am
Great news.
It’s awesome that the AVGN Movie will be using practical effects despite the cost and energy needed. If only Hollywood would be willing to use practical instead of the crappy CGI they’ve been overusing.
It’s okay if the movie doesn’t get out for another year, it’s more important that you get some more time with your family than getting the movie out sooner.
December 31, 2013 at 1:12 am
I’m with you man, you have been kicking ass
December 31, 2013 at 1:25 am
Happy new year James!
December 31, 2013 at 1:43 am
This is awesome James, you really are a true inspiration with everything you do and still make time to get out and see the fans. Also, Mike, you’re awesome as well, always there to back up James when needed. Keep up the good work you guys!
December 31, 2013 at 2:15 am
Way to go James! this is super cool
December 31, 2013 at 2:19 am
I guess this is actually going to be my first post ever here on Cinemassacre- Though, I’ve been a big fan of yours since 2007, James. Growing up every year with you as one of my biggest inspirations and idols I look up to. You’ve influenced my A LOT as a person, and I couldn’t thank you enough for it. Always giving me a good laugh every single day. I used to watch your videos over and over every single day ( Not being dramatic, but honest ), staying hooked and entertained by every content of yours. Seeing you grow more famous, and actually reaching this goal of yours honestly puts a big smile on my face and I’m glad to be part of this. One of my life goals is to meet you in person one day, but- I’m not the richest man in town and sadly haven’t ever been able to make it into a convention- nor close enough to it to meet up with you in person to just finally shake hands with you or something! I’m more than happy seeing how you’ve gotten married, gotten a wonderful lil’ girl and coming closer to finally finishing this big project up! Perhaps one day, I’ll be lucky enough to get to meet you in person, but thanks for being loyal to your fanbase, James! Wouldn’t be the same without you.
December 31, 2013 at 3:54 am

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeej, release it already, I can’t wait.
December 31, 2013 at 4:26 am
James, Pluto Nash had a budget of 100 million, the movie still sucked big time, so don’t downgrade your work. It’s not about the budget, but about quality.
December 31, 2013 at 4:48 am
Hei James
I look forward to AVGN movie in 2014.
But I want to say thank you of to showed all the cool AVGN episodes. I have seen all the AVGN episodes , Movie reviews and Board James. I laugh as much of AVGN and Board James episodes. But I think the AVGN movie going to be good.
I`m not a Big fan of CGI What I love most is stop motion I am very big fan of Godzilla , King Kong and Gamera.
But then I would say have a happy new year and we see you in 2014 Godzilla is back and AVGN movie.
December 31, 2013 at 4:52 am
I hope You’ll be making “The Making of AVGN Movie” someday.
December 31, 2013 at 5:21 am
Now whenever I see that rocket scene i’m going to think ‘That’s when the Fire Department turned up a James’s house’
Great year for Cinemassacre. You guys really upped your game this year.
Keep doing James & Mike Mondays – they have been the highlight for me.
December 31, 2013 at 6:01 am
James, I use and highly recommend Mocha Pro for tracking and removing things from footage. It’s makes it a million times easier than just straight After Effects. http://www.imagineersystems.com/products/mochapro
December 31, 2013 at 6:04 am
It’s videos like these that make those people always complaining about a lack of AVGN episodes look 10x more like assholes than they already are.
December 31, 2013 at 8:08 am
wow wow awesome update james u inspire me
December 31, 2013 at 8:19 am
Great update and insight on movie-making ! Good luck for 2014 James, I`m really looking forward to the movie !
December 31, 2013 at 8:32 am

December 31, 2013 at 8:56 am
Don’t run yourself too ragged, James :/ Still, congrats on your holy-shit amount of progress. Crazy or not, you always make it work. I almost jumped out of my seat when you showed us that you were done shooting!
Good luck and Happy New Year, man. I know i’m not the only one who you’re a Hero to.
December 31, 2013 at 9:11 am
I’m sure the movie would be a masterpiece. I’ve been waiting for years, and now the dream is coming true!
December 31, 2013 at 9:22 am
Great story. I praise you for on set practical effects which are lacking in today’s Hollywood. Props to Mike for helping get shit done. Filmmaking is such a massive team effort.
December 31, 2013 at 9:22 am
Usually I don’t like your Movie Updates, but these insights were extremly interesting and entertaining. Thanks for all your great work James!
And Happy New Year!
December 31, 2013 at 9:23 am
Keep at it James. It will be worth the effort! Also, save some of the raw footage… There is a humbleness about a film that doesn’t take itself too serious. Thanks again for your hard work!
December 31, 2013 at 9:27 am
Keep at it, James. It will be worth the effort. Also, save some of the raw footage… The best nostalgic movies are humble and don’t take themselves too seriously. Thanks again for your hard work!
December 31, 2013 at 9:41 am
This year was really fucked up for me too.
I’m so happy for you James. Congrats :3
Can’t wait for your movie.
P.S. Your eyes are sooo blue lol
December 31, 2013 at 9:57 am
That’s awesome, James! I’m so happy for you! I know it’s been a hellish year for you to get this movie done, but you will have something so awesome that the sales will blow your mind. And don’t be afraid to ask us, your loyal fans, to help you make more movies in the future. We love donating money to you for the movies you wanna make. I think it’s time for you to relax and take a deep breath, James. You finally finished filming! : )
December 31, 2013 at 10:32 am
It’s been the most fantastic year to be an AVGN fan. As always, can’t wait for the movie, but take all the time you need.

Awesome! you are a really hard worker man James. and Also mike and the rest of the people that help you. you are my inspiration.I Can’t wait
December 31, 2013 at 12:53 pm
If You ever run into an issue with recording PC games you have several options. The program I use is called Camtasia Studio 7. It works great & it’s simple !
Dxtory 2.0 is another method but it is cpu intensive & makes extremely large files.
Bandicam is the cheapest of these 3 options. It works well but is prone to failure with recordings over 5 minutes. Just from My experience.
You can check out some of the recordings on My Youtube channel if You are curious about it.
youtube.com/user/gaminghistorysource
Looking foreword to the movie James. Don’t kill yourself trying to finish it. Your fans will understand.
December 31, 2013 at 1:03 pm
Sorry you had to go through all that trouble for the Nerd game. Zdsoft screen recorder does a pretty good job capturing on-screen, as well as a dozen others. And Leawo Video Converter will convert ANYTHING to ANYTHING. It’s awesome. Cheers on the update!
December 31, 2013 at 1:07 pm
Hey James,
Really excited for the movie. These updates have been a great way for us to see the hell that is filming a movie.
I served half of the past decade in the Marine Corps. Busy schedules and time away is something I can sympathize with and I want to show my appreciation by thanking your family, your crew and you for the sacrifices and sleepless nights.
With all that said, can’t wait for the movie and I wish you and yours the best!
December 31, 2013 at 1:08 pm
I’ve found, as a rule of thumb, to estimate filming time just picture the absolute longest anything can take (going as slowly as possible and allowing maximum contingency time). Then multiply that by three, and you’ll have a realistic estimate.
December 31, 2013 at 1:15 pm
can’t wait for the movie! It is going to be awesome
December 31, 2013 at 1:19 pm
Nice to hear that we might see this movies in 2014. One question though: How are you going to release this in Europe or other parts of the world?
My country does not have independent cinemas AFAIK. But I would really love seeing this in a cinema, so I hope you can get some sort of deal done there…
December 31, 2013 at 1:25 pm
Your work is so inspiring. You have to put all of these vlogs on the extras section of the AVGN movie dvd. AND a commentary showing all the effort put into each shot. I’d really like to know!
December 31, 2013 at 1:39 pm
“An big update” *slow clap*
December 31, 2013 at 1:42 pm
It’s been awesome watching you and your videos for the past 6 years, it’s cool to see it all culminate here. Good job, James!
December 31, 2013 at 1:52 pm
way to go James! I’ll be waiting for the movie release
December 31, 2013 at 2:02 pm
Great job and happy new year.
The moment you showed what the milestone was, i felt strange.
Then there’s effects and your examples are really cool, but i think that will be the easy part of this whole project if i got it right.
Next update better be a date for the premiere. It feels so close now.
December 31, 2013 at 2:11 pm
Great work James and everyone involved!
Looking forward to the finished product as well as other videos.
December 31, 2013 at 2:14 pm
Oh, and have a happy and prosperous new year
December 31, 2013 at 2:18 pm
Congrats! Hope your film career just keeps going up and up and up
December 31, 2013 at 3:03 pm
Awesome can’t wait. This is why your the best at youtube reviewing your production quality and backround going to film school really shows. Dont ever forget how lucky you are James to be able to work on your own schedule doing something you love. Not many people get to do that in life. Most people go to a job they hate every day.
December 31, 2013 at 3:18 pm
James.. i gotta say as a long time fan,. thanks for all the hard work you’ve done this year as the Nerd, the monster madness stuff and the work on the movie. I can’t wait to see and hope to see it soon though I’d be happy to wait till you think it’s ready.. I wish you the best of luck for the year 2014 on all your stuff both Cimassacre related and in your personal life with your baby.. happy new years James
December 31, 2013 at 3:33 pm
Really insightful stuff, James. People should know how hard it is to make a movie happen.
December 31, 2013 at 3:50 pm
awesome, great news James!!
December 31, 2013 at 4:18 pm
Congrats on being at this stage of the movie James. Your one hard working mother fucker and I can’t wait to see all your hard work pay off. Just take your time to get it how you want it before you put it out there we’re more then willing to wait for you to get everything how you want it before release so we can see your full vision as it should be. Its going to be awesome.
December 31, 2013 at 4:54 pm
He seems worried that we are going to be disappointed with the movie. I’m not expecting to have my mind blown myself, but I’m thinking I’ll enjoy it if it’s ever finished.
December 31, 2013 at 8:23 pm
YESSS, can’t wait for the film!!!
December 31, 2013 at 8:30 pm
Release it on Laser Disc
December 31, 2013 at 8:35 pm
Congratulations James!
December 31, 2013 at 10:21 pm
Man, I haven’t read any other comments but I sure as hell hope none of them are “Man, excuses, excuses”-esque. (Way to butcher sentence structure, grammar, and other holy things, eh?) It’s just that these are the kind of reactions videos like this, in general, usually get.
That being said, you, James, are a man that CLEARLY get’s things done. I liken you to Nintendo, the company. Not in the golden years, not currently, but just in general.
What I mean is, have you ever noticed that when Nintendo makes a game that is good there is nothing else like it? Even game genres that OTHER companies have honestly in all accounts done as good, or better. Think platformers or cart racing games. Even if another game comes out that does one of these better there is STILL nothing that feels quite like a Nintendo first-party game.
You, obviously, pioneered this type of show but others have done it really well following your foot steps. That being said, no matter WHAT, when an AVGN episode comes out THAT is the one that I clear the calendar for, sing the theme song, etc.
All THAT being said, I’m not sure what x-factor you have. I think for me it’s the fact that you seem like such a humble guy BUT more than anything, you are a hard working mother fucker. I honestly can’t think of someone who works AS HARD or is AS DEDICATED as you.
I’m always excited to see these videos, and even though I’ve never tried to make a feature length movie I _HAVE_ made short videos. Also, as a professional programmer and game developer I know all the little details that only people who create things, in general, know. These things take time to do right! ___THHATTT__ being said, this video was like the announcement of Half-Life 3. It’s not out, it’s not going to be out quite yet, but I REALLY was not expecting to see you knock off all those shots. Hell, I must have missed a video because the last time I looked I SWEAR there were a LOT more.
After you reiterated the fact that all the shots were done I ACTUALLY clapped for a good 10 seconds. Truly a milestone video.
Don’t you EVER fucking feel like you’ve let any of us down, EVER. I swear, as much as you said content was going to slow down, and then slow down more (and it did this second time), I swear that we’ve had more Cinemassacre content from the whole spectrum than we have EVER had.
You sir, are the man.
No, the fucking nerd.
