my co-worker’s step-sister made $13234 the previous week. she gets paid on the laptop and moved in a $557000 condo. All she did was get blessed and apply the guide leaked on this web site… http://cpl.pw/OKeIJo

  • December 16, 2013 at 10:33 am

    This game sucks

  • December 16, 2013 at 10:34 am

    Wow. What a crappy game.

    December 16, 2013 at 10:59 am

Oh my god! I was so happy I wasn’t the one playing that horrible game!
Hope your all right after that shit James!

    December 16, 2013 at 11:01 am

I’ve had a similar experience one time with a Sonic game on the Wii! I quit playing after a while when I can’t seem to find a way to jump over a large gap of water!

  • December 16, 2013 at 11:07 am

I’m assuming the opening cutscenes are rendered on a high-end computer and simply added as video footage. I think the gradual graphics change is definitely to ease you into the shitiness. Perhaps if cutscenes were made with either the actual sprites or a format that doesn’t contrast at all instead of “a lot like the gameplay but makes it look like shit.” NES cutscenes never had this problem.

Since you mentioned the (kickass) opening of DoubleDragon, I’ll mention the superior opening of DD2, which is the same thing except they just gun your girlfriend down LOL

Tha Tails part cracked me up.

You should play Conker’s Bad Fur Day.

this game can burn in hell

For any questions you have wondering about this game.

    1. You start over from the very beginning because this game does not have an autosave feature, so after you complete a level or do an event like getting the shoes and light chip you have to manually save your game.

    2. Regarding the game quality Sega has admitted this game was half completed, they just ran out of deadlines and were forced to release it.

I know this because I have actually played through this entire PoS on my PS3, though the fault is my own I knew it was bad, the cashier at GameCrazy tried to stop me from buying it, but I bought it anyway because I knew it was that bad.

    December 16, 2013 at 11:43 am

I now know why this game blows so much ass

  • angel85

    December 16, 2013 at 11:47 am

I’m not going to defend this horrible game, but you guys didn’t even ATTEMPT to attack any of the robots while playing as Tails! There was even one of those question mark thingies that TOLD you how to attack and you ignored it. You were SUPPOSED to use the ring bomb to blow up that metal crate with the flame picture to reveal a spring that would take you to the next part of the stage. I mean, yeah that is stupid and unintuitive but seeing how you never even used his attack once just shows how you weren’t paying attention.

    December 16, 2013 at 11:49 am

Oh, as for human characters…well, there is Eggman. He’s human. Oh, and Maria and Eggman’s…grandfather I think (both executed…shot whatever it was).

You know, to be honest, I think the loading time would’ve bugged me about this game more than the other stuff. I know that was the main reason I wanted the N64 over the PSX when they first came out. I liked the fact I didn’t have to wait for the games to load, like on the PSX. lol

I take back what I said. Good god, the glitches. This game would’ve been taken to the nearest Gamestop. I would’ve given the game. I would’ve paid them to take it off my hands. lol

  • Vinny1138

    December 16, 2013 at 12:01 pm

If thought just the first stage was bad, You haven’t even seen where the game get’s atrocious during the Mach Speed Stages. It’s an automatic running stage where you can only control Sonic by moving left and right while the He’s automatically running at like 1000 miles, and you have to have split second reflexes to know when to move.

    • Wendy

      December 17, 2013 at 7:31 am

That sounds challenging, but I’m going to assume the camera will be awkward for that too.

  • December 16, 2013 at 12:16 pm

Mike, oh, Mike, you’re gonna get alot of hate from Sonic fans over this, did you even listen to any of the game’s Soundtrack? It’s often regarded by Fans who played this game, that it has some of the best Music in the Sonic Series, personal recommendations include the awesome short rock piece that is “Town Mission 4″ and Silver The Hedgehog’s Theme, “Dreams Of An Absolution”, but honestly, check out the Soundtrack before you make a conclusion on it.

    • December 16, 2013 at 5:03 pm

No, I’m sorry, but the soundtrack to this game blows. The only really good song in the whole game is the song you hear when you’re being graded after a mission. That’s it.

      • Wendy

        December 17, 2013 at 7:32 am

That’s subjective, isn’t it? Music in general is. Personally, I love the Sonic R soundtrack, despite the fact it shouldn’t have been used for a racing game, but some people loathe it.

  • joaquin serrano

    December 16, 2013 at 12:22 pm

i think, you guys, can play sonic unleashed, it’s a fun game and it feels more like sonic, maybe, if you can

    • Kieran St James

      December 16, 2013 at 12:55 pm

Interesting, I like that they took scenes from the Dreamcast game and updated them. I’m surprised you guys didn’t mention that.
      .
I would say this looks poorly prgramed. Tails disappearing and having to start completely over is ridiculous.

  • the-pieman

    December 16, 2013 at 12:23 pm

Actually, I’ve played this and… yes it is terribly, terribly flawed, but… I like this game. Sonic ’06 was not that bad in my opinion. It definitely needs fixing badly, but if it was fixed, I think it’d be great.

Hey, there are plenty of modders out there, if we could get a PC version of this game, the community could work together and make Sonic ’06: the good edition

  • Kieran St James

    December 16, 2013 at 12:26 pm

    that was quick

  • spoonshiro

    December 16, 2013 at 12:46 pm

You really should have capped it off by burning it!

  • Patrick McGrath

    December 16, 2013 at 1:02 pm

James, for some reason it seemed like you didn’t even want to play that game, or even make this video. You acted lazy, dare I say. Are you losing interest? I love what the “James and Mike” series does. Twisting two serious characters into a gaming nostalgic phenomenon, you install serious remarks along with crude humor. I enjoy this. but this episode was horrible. Sorry man. Please for the love of god, do not allow Mike to run the gaming section of Cinemassacre.

  • December 16, 2013 at 1:11 pm

Alright, to clear a few mysteries here:

1 The game doesn’t make you go back, it just never autosaves. NEVER. You have to save the game yourself, and you can only do it on the hubworlds.
2 The game starts you back with Sonic when you die with Tails because there’s checkpoints throughout the stage and the last checkpoint you hit was at that Sonic part.
3 A lot of the “weird stuff” you complained about like humans in Sonic games and Sonic not being able to swim were introduced in the SEGA Dreamcast game “Sonic Adventure”, a great game, for the time at least. The whole gameplay is a lot more intuitive if you have played Sonic Adventure or the sequel, or Sonic Heroes… still not very intuitive, but a lot more. The game also doesn’t break as much (glitches etc.) if you just follow the ‘rules’ and pathways the game sets up. Don’t try to make any crazy jumps, just fly through the speed booster ring with Tails first, don’t fly over to the bridge that falls apart.

It was quite a pain to watch this, but I understand that the game is not very intuitive for newcomers to the 3d Sonic games. I actually like this game to some extent. 3d Sonic games have never been known to be very newbie-friendly, anyway. I played this after playing Colours, Generations and the Dreamcast games, which made it easier for me. :P

  • December 16, 2013 at 1:20 pm

This game seems like one big tutorial doesn’t seem like it will ever be fun

  • December 16, 2013 at 1:36 pm

You know what´s bullshit? this game.

  • Gaston

    December 16, 2013 at 1:38 pm

Well, actually the game its one of the first releases on Xbox 360, the graphics looks like crap but its because of this.
Btw Patrick McGrath is right, James played as if he don’t want to play the game (its sucks, i know, but at least do your best), still, the video was very funny!!

  • Flint Fandango

    December 16, 2013 at 1:55 pm

Funny and masochistic, that´s how I like it! ;) Keep up the good work!

  • Andrew

    December 16, 2013 at 1:56 pm

I laughed so hard watching this! You really need to make an exemption for AVGN and review this piece of junk. Just watching your reaction to all the flaws was priceless.

  • December 16, 2013 at 2:05 pm

    Horrible.

  • eightytwo

    December 16, 2013 at 2:06 pm

    Dude, this is so bad.
Fucking… all because of Mr. Game and Watch.

  • onijimbo

    December 16, 2013 at 2:21 pm

I know you said this game was too new but you have to nerd this game. You can just do what NC did and use a time machine.

  • December 16, 2013 at 2:37 pm

Yeah the camra control is bad, and the controls seems really floaty, but still James you didn’t do that good. Your reaction time is seriously lacking, when comparing you play of contra or Street fighter 2010

  • December 16, 2013 at 2:57 pm

I actually quite like this game and find it very underrated, it was the very first 360 game I ever bought.

  • andywagz

    December 16, 2013 at 3:01 pm

BRILLIANT!!!! Your best “James & Mike Mondays” yet. What a terrible game to play (and to watch)!

  • BlazeHeatnix

    December 16, 2013 at 3:14 pm

Mike I’m sorry but this game actually does have good music. I can’t see how you can hate it.

    • December 16, 2013 at 5:10 pm

Look at Sonic 2 on the Genesis for a moment. Think of songs like Oil Ocean, Metropolis, Mystic Caves & the Bonus Round songs, all timeless. Not one of the songs in Sonic ’06 comes close to comparing. The best songs in Sonic ’06 are mediocre at best.

      • Patrick McGrath

        December 16, 2013 at 10:42 pm

The only reason you are saying the soundtrack is horrible, is because you are comparing it to a classic game. Think about the music as an stand alone genre. Although it may not catch my ear quite like, lets say Sonic 2. But, the music is above moderate that’s for sure. Let me say. I have definitely heard worse.

  • Moose Of Woe

    December 16, 2013 at 3:40 pm

    NOW LOADING…

  • December 16, 2013 at 3:46 pm

I wish you would play Dark Souls. :D
Anyway, entertaining video. It’s been edited nicely.

  • mighty

    December 16, 2013 at 4:01 pm

Great episode. That first level is one of the better ones of the game! It would be hilarious to see you guys play some of the later levels and different character (The Silver levels are horrendous)

  • December 16, 2013 at 5:13 pm

I am currently playing this atrocity for myself to write my own review for it. Needless to say, it’s not faring well. Honestly, the best part of the whole game for me thus far is the sound effects. Yeah.

You know there’s a problem with the game when the vast majority of the praise goes to the damn SFX!!!

  • December 16, 2013 at 5:26 pm

great video as usual….what a disgrace to the sonic series.

  • nowaitstop

    December 16, 2013 at 5:37 pm

This game is worse than I could have possibly imagined.

  • December 16, 2013 at 5:45 pm

So who won? Who gets to pick next weeks game, tails?

  • Jackred89

    December 16, 2013 at 5:50 pm

Considering you guys played this terrible game. I realized there is one more bad Sonic game. I would like you to review in an future episode. Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis on Game Boy Advance. I believe you guys said nothing before 2006 right. Didn’t you review Spider-Man 2 on the same platform. Which came out in 2006 so you could do this one. It’s a shitty port of a classic game. Almost everything about it goes wrong.

  • December 16, 2013 at 5:56 pm

i couldn’t wait for Monday to get here to see this review. clearly it was worth the wait lol.

  • HomingMissiles

    December 16, 2013 at 5:57 pm

James mentioned Pacific Rim. Did he watch the movie (or Mike for that matter)?

    • HomingMissiles

      December 16, 2013 at 6:01 pm

Well that didn’t come out very right. I meant to ask if James or Mike watched the movie, not if James watched Mike or something like that lol. English is not my native language.

  • Makusu

    December 16, 2013 at 6:02 pm

I remeber playing this back in the day man it was hard because i was 11 who else played this before?

  • December 16, 2013 at 6:21 pm

Sonic Lost World was mediocre but playable, this is anus.
Everytime i see a video of Sonic 06, something new gets discovered, in a bad way of course.
    Amazing video!

  • Kurisu Smith

    December 16, 2013 at 6:37 pm

Wow, I regisisted just to comment on this. The game really isn’t as bad as you guy’s are making it out to be.

James obviously had no prior experience with newer Sonic titles like the Adventure series. He didnt even know HOMING ATTACK is sonic’s top offense move!

You guys are just looking for glitches. Yes the game is mediocre, and is a bug ridden hell becaue it was rushed but realisticly – YOU WON’T ‘Usually ‘ ENCOUNTER ANY ISSUES WITH GLITCHES IF YOU JUST PLAY THE GAME NORMALLY.

It’s a sonic game. You go forward – not jump around, go back and forth. Mike knew how to play the game but he wanted to have James try it to show the bad points..A lot of sonic games are not noob friendly..

And install the game to the HDD for reduced load. I wouldn’t be suprised if Mike purposely avoided doing that.

Also this game is regarded as having some of the best music in the sonic series….*Sigh* Did you even bother listening it? Or were you to busy lulzing at how poorly you were playing..

No offense though, I love James & Mike, been a faithful fan for years but I love Sonic more! Lol.

  • Kevin

    December 16, 2013 at 6:41 pm

Well, if you guys are gonna pretend to make these videos every Monday, you should probably change shirts so we know you’re not just banging them all out on one day.

    • Dustin Ciani

      December 17, 2013 at 12:49 am

They aren’t pretending to make these videos every Monday. They are releasing them every Monday. Believe it or not they have lives. So they probably knock out three or four videos at a time and just release them on a schedule.

  • austin castle

    December 16, 2013 at 6:50 pm

hey james, mike, if you guys wanna play a good sonic game then i recommend playing either “sonic heroes” or “shadow the hedgehog”. those games are good. :)

  • Bamahut

    December 16, 2013 at 7:35 pm

so 3 minutes in and we start to hear how much loading the game does, that actually was my own reaction when I first played it. This is the main reason I didn’t even finished it, you spend like half the time waiting for the game to load.

  • karel1

    December 16, 2013 at 8:33 pm

Yeah, this game is just putrid. I’m so glad I was never into the Sonic franchise

  • SlasherJackson17

    December 16, 2013 at 8:38 pm

The game was bad because the fans demanded the game be released sooner, so it was released before they could fix anything

  • sanchokobe

    December 16, 2013 at 8:44 pm

Sonic ’06 is a good game, it just never got finished. It would’ve been great (think Sonic Unleashed without the werehog) had Sega not rushed it to release.

Kinda disappointed James didn’t get a chance to experience the horrors that are the billiard ball puzzles in Silver’s story.

  • December 16, 2013 at 8:47 pm

    I’m getting Game Grumps flashbacks.

  • Podo

    December 16, 2013 at 8:51 pm

Play a good sonic 3D game like Sonic Heroes

  • Podo

    December 16, 2013 at 8:53 pm

I have another idea. If you don’t plan to play another sonic game on James & Mike play for a while, you should do a James & Mike Play for the Spiderman 64 game I sent you

  • December 16, 2013 at 8:58 pm

Load for 30 seconds, have one conversation. Load for 30 seconds. Start mission, complete or fail mission, load for 30 seconds, have another conversation, load for another 30 seconds. Yay! Played it for about an hour before I was like… this is ridiculous.

  • Topdek

    December 16, 2013 at 8:59 pm

God damn it, I was so pumped to see James go on an ad-libbed AVGN rant. I was about to have one just watching him play, because this game is fucking horrible!

  • December 16, 2013 at 9:09 pm

Well, in a huge coincidence, the video started buffering, I hit pause, and it sent me to the very beginning.

  • Michael Tang

    December 16, 2013 at 9:55 pm

James, have you seen those guys at Game Grumps play this? Sooo many glitches lol.

  • xZOMBIEx

    December 16, 2013 at 10:17 pm

OMG… My 10 year old son was able to play this game AND beat it!!! He didn’t have the problems you all had… Well maybe at first, but he understood it a lot faster and was sitting here yelling at what you guys were supposed to do, lol… Its actually not THAT bad…

  • December 16, 2013 at 10:53 pm

Haha, James is so visibly annoyed by this game that I couldn’t help but laugh. It was almost like watching an AVGN episode. So awesome.

  • mysterywolf

    December 16, 2013 at 11:14 pm

Doesn’t that game have an ‘Install data’ option? (Or did I just miss it) to make load times less…loady?

  • jabackf

    December 16, 2013 at 11:26 pm

Good god. This absolutely epitomizes one of the big reasons I avoid a lot of modern games. Long load times and drawn out cliche cutscenes. I’m a busy mother fucker. I don’t have the time or patience for that shit. Gone are the days when you could pop a cartridge in and squeeze in ten to twenty minutes of gaming before the bullshit obligations of life commence fucking you in the face. Today it takes a good twenty minutes just to get to the fucking gameplay, maybe even more so when you consider most modern games start you off with some sort of dialog heavy training before they turn you loose. I’m not saying all modern games are plagued with this problem. In fact, this may not even be a bad thing for games that are heavily driven by storyline (e.g. Metal Gear Solid), but a lot of games just have no excuse. Sonic is definitely a game without an excuse. Games like this have usually lost my attention before the gameplay even starts.

    [/rant]

  • Jaeger Newman

    December 16, 2013 at 11:52 pm

Guys…..go to rehab. No one should ever play this game. I hate this game but I would never recommend it to the f***ing nerd because that would be cruel to make him play this. It is that bad.

  • Connor Lefevers

    December 17, 2013 at 12:01 am

    Cool…I am a day late

  • December 17, 2013 at 12:15 am

This Succeeds for two wtched in Rock Pillars:

1: Tackles later things, with some occasional ironic results.
2: Cleans some of the evil of Richard Kuta.

    …Architecture of Genius.

  • Veio

    December 17, 2013 at 12:45 am

maybe that black dude is supposed to be saying “yo man sonikk brazza wanna buy sum sikk schitt n stuff like dat ring powah thingy whatchamacallit…” but that wouldn’t be appropriate and they just felt lazy to change animations ;)

  • Dustin Ciani

    December 17, 2013 at 12:55 am

Great job guys. Entertaining as always. Keep up the great work. We appreciate it.

  • December 17, 2013 at 12:56 am

The worst part of this game isn’t even the brokenness of it it’s the worst story in video game history.

  • Aaron1375

    December 17, 2013 at 1:25 am

That had me laughing, but I also could not grasp at how bad the game was. For one, it did not seem like a world Sonic would be in as you guys said. The people in town looked like they were straight from a Sims game. Then the loading, that is why I never understood people who stand by Xbox 360, it was the loading mother fucking machine of the three latest gen consoles. Then the fact there is no continue on a game made in the 2000′s and they make you see all that shit again? That is absurd to the highest degree!

  • Bamahut

    December 17, 2013 at 1:32 am

I’d love to play this game with you guys, we would have so much fun and laugh!

  • Zeroman

    December 17, 2013 at 2:10 am

I feel so sorry for you after playing THAT. From my own experiences with that abomination, the bad taste it left was so awful that I couldn’t play a 3d platformer for years.

The only real defense I can give 06 is that the music is enjoyable and the Shadow missions are the least broken, that and the more heavy combat emphasis in that campaign was a bit more enjoyable.

I know the nerd’s bit is on bad games of the past, but the awfulness of this monstrosity is so legendary that it deserves “The Nerd Treatment” and subsequent CD destruction. Heck, 06 was so bad that nearly killed the franchise.

  • hughjazz44

    December 17, 2013 at 2:25 am

Wow. I know this game is terrible (I myself had the displeasure of owning it), but how can James beat Ghosts and Goblins on the NES but not the first level of Sonic ’06???

  • December 17, 2013 at 3:55 am

This is easily one of the most brutally awful games I’ve ever watched. I was soooo close to turning this off. James and Mike, I’m so sorry you had to play this shit. I am literally disgusted and will most likely have nightmares after this. Honestly, dear god this game is worse than fucking Cheetamen, or E.T. or fucking Back to the future. Possibly the worst game I’ve ever witnessed.

  • gluserty

    December 17, 2013 at 4:25 am

I heard this game was terrible when it was released, and this video confirms it. A Sonic game doesn’t need lengthy cutscenes, plus those loading times were unsightly. Funny thing though: that “cashier” at the store reminded me of that guy who was faking sign language at Nelson Mandela’s ceremony; just a bunch of hand motions signifying nothing.

  • December 17, 2013 at 5:30 am

i played this game before and despite it being a piece of shit.. i actually managed to get fairly far… not sure how…never wanna play it again, that’s for sure.

  • December 17, 2013 at 6:00 am

Was that intended? Shoes with the power of “Sole”anna, sorry bad joke lol, nice videos guys

  • Santa Horse

    December 17, 2013 at 6:14 am

Sorry, but as bad as this game is, I only have very limited sympathy for you.

You went into the game not knowing anything about why it was reviled, assuming instead that it was the fans’ fault for being entitled, when a minute’s research would have taught you otherwise. You then failed to notice that you could save in the hub world just by using the pause menu (to be fair though, the game itself never tells you this), then you flat-out ignore or don’t notice clear on-screen instructions while playing as Tails telling you to drop a dummy bomb, which I believe would have led the enemy to destroy the box and reveal a spring. There’s just no excuse for not knowing that, it’s in big bold letters in the centre of the screen.

I was hoping for a proper dismantling of one of the worst and most rushed games of all time – instead, I actually found myself defending the indefensible.

  • December 17, 2013 at 6:25 am

After all that.. guess what.. progress 0%! haha

  • Alexander Smith

    December 17, 2013 at 10:00 am

next Monday do Jet force Gemini its a game on the N64 that most people have forgotten but its very good and a very fun vs modes

  • Alexander Smith

    December 17, 2013 at 10:02 am

for a AVGN do Glover which was a N64 game that was supposed to be the next Mario N64 but failed for many reasons

  • December 17, 2013 at 10:23 am

….What the hell?! This game is like Sonic meets Big Rigs! xD

  • OmegaRockman

    December 17, 2013 at 10:36 am

The reason why this game sucks so bad is because it was extremely rushed by SEGA. The creators were planning on making this a great game, but SEGA wanted it out by the holiday that year so instead of one of the greatest Sonic games ever like the creators originally planned, we got this half-finished, unpolished piece of garbage. If you want to play good 3D Sonic games, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and Sonic Heroes will serve you well. The gameplay is better and more ironed out (though SA1 is a little clunky due to being the first major 3D Sonic game, but still good nonetheless), the stories in the Adventure games (especially SA2) are pretty good for the Sonic franchise, and the voice acting is great. Even if you hate the English voices, the Adventure games let you switch to the Japanese track, which is pretty damn good. Not many games let you do that, so I was very happy to have the option. So yeah, play those games for a good 3D Sonic experience.

That video was great, had me laughing pretty good! In contrast to Sonic ’06, you’s should play Super Mario Sunshine, that game sucks! Please keep the James & Mike Monday’s coming :D

You guys should watch the speedruns of this someday, if you want to see just how broken it is. They exploit COUNTLESS glitches to skip stages and manipulate the game, because of how broken it is.

  • December 17, 2013 at 11:59 am

And this is why the AVGN should review this game even if it’s not that old.

Man I hear it was bad, but this defy expectation.

  • December 17, 2013 at 4:23 pm

i use to all ways imagine a lakitu has holding the camera like from mario 64

  • December 17, 2013 at 4:33 pm

You didn’t play as Shadow or Silver. If you get far enough Shadow has vehicles and words cannot describe Silvers.

I never had those issues with the PS3 version James and Mike. As never played the X-BOX 360 version I don’t know for sure; but since I don’t see it in the PS3 version makes me believe this is only in the X-BOX 360 version.

You hit the nail right on the fucking head guys. The game was not finished and they pushed it out the door anyways. Gotta make sure the new sonic game is ready for the xmas season for all the stupid kiddies to buy! Gotta make our 4th quarter profits because our fiscal year projections aren’t doing well! Gotta do right by our shareholders instead of our customers!! And then failing to do right for both!!

    Fucking assholes…

You guys really need to play The Last Of Us. It’s a game that came out in 2013 about a man named Joel and a girl name Ellie. They suffer to survive in a post-pandemic world riddled with infected known as the cordyceps. Basically, zombies. But zombies aren’t the only thing they are defending themselves from. Survivors are killing their own. This is a need to play for any zombie fan! I’d love to see James and Mike try out this game on the James and Mike Mondays.

  • December 20, 2013 at 12:48 pm

When i first have played on playstation 1 for the first time i was having a hard time trying to find the save in some of the first games i have played. The game probably has a save feature somewhere in the menu in order to save after doing something importand.Or maybe it is not set up in the ayto save function. Now if those doesn’t exist then the game is suck really hard.

  • December 20, 2013 at 9:07 pm

This is why I hate post-nineties Sonic games.

  • December 22, 2013 at 6:35 am

I know that this game’s far from perfect, but ma-a-a-an, you’re terrible at it.

  • OMA

    December 22, 2013 at 6:44 pm

Wow, this game is so bad it could have easily been AVGN material, but I suppose that it being a 360 game, it’s too “modern” for the AVGN :-)

I recall christmas 2006. Getting my new xbox with Sonic 06. I remember the amount of times I died on the first level due to inconsistency and glitches. This game was all around bad. My dad actually accidentally broke the game on christmas while I was playing it. Bless his soul for breaking it.

  • December 26, 2013 at 1:52 pm

Seeing James’ genuine frustration about that ring part when he threw down the controller basically says it all.

The jarring differences between cutscene and gameplay graphics have been around for a long, long time. Remember final fantasy VII? Thats a prime example of significant difference between cutscene and actual gameplay in terms of graphics, and no one at the time seemed to care. Why? Because the narrative kicked such a ridiculous amount of ass that no one cared. It was exceptionally jarring at some points, especially at the end of disc one, but Square did it in such an appropriate way that you were just unable to complain.

Its sort of like how the original version of LOTR is in text. When you go to read it, it triggers your imagination in a way where you don’t even need visuals to understand whats going on. And after you do, and you watch the highly abbreviated film version, you understand why a few things were just left out because they just don’t translate as well from text, but you still appreciate the text more. Yet, the narrative remains intact.

What I’m trying to say is that Sonic ’06 is terrible. It has very little to do with Sonic except on the most superficial levels, his powers, his speed, and the fact that he is a blue bi-pedal hedgehog. All of these things could easily be taken for granted if the story was any good, or if the game WAS ANY FUN WHATSOEVER.

Thats all I’ve got for you, take it for what it is.

i liked this review it realy looks like a sucky game:P
and i never played it so this was a usefull game to play in stead of playing smash bros.

but i do think that on some parts if you had read better or maby wasnt so in a rush that the game was easyer.
now it looks like a total bad game and on some parts it is.
but sometimes i think you dont understand what you need to do or are doing.

    o well still loved it.
and i hope we see more of this:P

Can you and Mike PLEASE play the Nintendo 64DD and it’s 9 games?

  • Liquid Snake

    January 2, 2014 at 5:20 pm

Why does everyone dis on this game, when I got with my PS3 I thought it was awesome. It is still one of my favorite sonic games. If you want to dis on a sonic game, sonic shuffle, sonic black knight, and secret rings. Yeah I know this game was glitchy but who cares. I’m sick and tired of people dissing on this game. Yeah its not as good as the originals but come on, put all glitchyness aside and it is a great game. I like it more than sonic lost worlds, and in my opinion that game is mishmash of crazy speed and poor control. It may not be as good as sonic adventure 1 & 2 but its still up there and I continue to defend it. Enough said.

  • January 2, 2014 at 5:33 pm

I don’t understand why everyone always has so many problems. Between you two and Game Grumps it’s like… I never had any issues with this game, and it seems like any competant human being should be able to breeze through it without error or issue.

  • Liquid Snake

    January 2, 2014 at 5:55 pm

I know, I had issues but they gotta realize the game does not auto save, I never had the problem because I have the habit of always pausing the game and see if I can save. As for the tails part, again no issues, you just gotta get a feel for the game. Go with the flow, get a good feel of the controls. I will admit the game can be hard at times, but that what gives it challenge. If you want this game, save often and you will be alright. Yeah there are glitches such as going through stuff, but you got to remember its an early 2006 next gen title at the time, that why it has such a long load time. My RYSE game has a very long load time. Why, because its an early next gen game. Don’t hate the glitches, have fun with them and don’t complain about the long load time, use it for your advantage such as getting a drink or something. Just go with it.

    • Strazdas

      January 3, 2014 at 5:42 am

Its funny how you use Ryse – a very very bad game- as an excuse for other bad game.

      • Liquid Snake

        January 4, 2014 at 12:08 pm

Its not as bad as you think, executions can get tiresome but slicing and beating the crap out of the enemies are fun. Its a mixed bag. Its an alright game

  • Strazdas

    January 3, 2014 at 5:41 am

Your loading so much because your on Xbox. Its slow. Other machines load faster.
The loading is more interesting than the game though.

    • Liquid Snake

      January 4, 2014 at 12:11 pm

Yeah your right my PS4 is much faster, It installs 40GB games in a matter of minutes, while my XBOX ONE takes forever, kind of like my PS3, whlie my 360 was faster. Each console has there flaws.

  • January 3, 2014 at 8:03 am

The first sonic game to feature is sonic adventure/dx

  • January 3, 2014 at 8:05 am

What I ment to say the first sonic game feature humans was sonic adventure/dx

    • Liquid Snake

      January 4, 2014 at 12:14 pm

I thought sonic shuffle had humans in it, then again I did not play it a lot due to being a complete fail of Mario party. Strangely the Mario party style mini-game board on sonic rings was not that bad.

  • Dan021

    January 7, 2014 at 6:04 pm

When you guys were wondering about why does it load so much, the first thing that came to my mind was, Yeah! Megaman Legend was on the PS1 and they would load a big part of town once and you would received the infos you needed as you move around, no double loading or triple loading screen. It’s ridiculous!

  • SoTH

    January 8, 2014 at 12:19 am

I don’t know about the bit on cut-scenes.

There isn’t really much of a difference between today’s cut-scenes and the ones of old. They might be featured more frequent in today’s games now, but most are skip-able, anyhow. At least they’re presentable now. Old cut-scenes can be really unintentionally laughable and detract from the mood, especially in games that are meant to be horror games, like Dark Seed 2.

Its really more or less just the idea of toys and board games’ back-story and its effect on gameplay or playtime, only here, we get the same back-story expansion they get re-inserted back into the game. Its been a nature that gameplay and backstory influences each other the same way toyline playtime and backstory influences each other.

And its not without merit, as we get to avoid the manual and don’t have to actually read a novel when it comes to those really sophisticated games.

I get what sega was trying to do with this…Sonic = Mario/Link, Eggman = Bowser/Ganon, Elise = Peach/Zelda. Seeing as most Sonic fans likely read the Archie Sonic series, a lot of them would have taken a venomous hatred to the Final Fantasy setting & Sonic’s new over-designed friends & shat balls of firey hatred after playing it; I know because I had to listen to a few bitch about it.

  • greyshark

    January 10, 2014 at 2:21 pm

Haaving worked a little in the games industry, I can tell you that the reason the second cutscene was a different quality to the first was to save money. Back then, it would have cost a lot to make a cutscene of final fantasy quality.

The reason there was so many bugs was probably due to time pressure to release the game as a Dreamcast launch title. And then when it was released on Xbox 360 years later, it wouldn’t have been finicially viable to pay a team to fix the bugs, since the coders wouldn’t have worked on the original game.

Believe it or not this was my 1st Sonic game (Yes I was a Nintendo kid) and I was severely disappointing because I knew lots of people love Sonic and I hated him after I played this game. I played some of the good classic Sonic games after this disgrace but this game still haunts me to this day

I’m ashamed to admit i’ve not only played this pile of shit, but i forced myself to get really far into the game to some point past where you unlock Silver the Hedgehog.. why? cause i wasn’t about to let this horrible game win. I wanted to get through it fro the sake of saying I got through it despite it being so broken.. i didn’t get through it, but i got far enough so that i consider myself better then the game.. i didn’t let its brokenness get the best of me.. until i eventually gave up, lol
