Updates and AVGN requests

James / November 17th, 2013

Since October, it’s been complete madness. I spent the last two weeks working on the annual AVGN DVD (this will be Volume 7) and on top of that, a Board James DVD finally! Now I’m working on a special AVGN episode. One that’s a little bit time sensitive. So there goes my November. Somewhere around Thanksgiving, I hope to get some time to work on the AVGN Movie for a little while. Then, come December, I’ll be working on yet another AVGN episode to cap off the year. That brings me to my question.

What games do you want to see the Nerd review, even if in short form? I’m trying to gauge what my biggest requests are, as of today. (Besides E.T.) Make your Christmas wish list for the Nerd, and I’ll consider them.

-James

I think you should review Bad Street Brawler, and use that as a reason to briefly talk about the Power Glove again. Only other Power Glove compatible title! It’s also pretty hilariously bad.

    • November 21, 2013 at 4:24 am

You’ve gotta review Bayou Billy! There’s so much to say about that piece of wombat shit… It quite possibly has the worst opening for an NES game. The text is so big only a few letters display at a time! And to try and boost sales, they said you could use the NES Zapper with it, but you can only use the zapper on the title screen! It’s a piece of shitty ass… play it…

      • November 30, 2013 at 12:21 am

Damn I was about to say Bayou Billy. It’s probably my least favorite NES game. How did Konami make that piece of crap? This followed Contra, Blades of Steel, Castlevania, and Jackal. I never had the patience to make it past the first stage either.

      • November 30, 2013 at 9:52 am

I beat Bayou Billy without losing lives before. It can be done. They just made the US version harder than the Famicom version (which is true for a surprising number of these games).

      • March 28, 2015 at 1:43 am

Bayou Billy is bad I’ve popped it out to play The Karate Kid instead.

Time Lord for the NES. It was created by Milton Bradley and really sucks. Either that, or The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, where you throw rocks and an octopus the spurts ink at you and for a short time puts Tom in black face.

    • Desmond McConnell

      November 19, 2013 at 5:28 am

TIME LORD was SO BAD. Would love to see an AVGN about that. Made an account just to post this reply and I’ve been here since 2007. Wow. Hello From Australia

I second time lord, I had it when it was new. it was alwase either way to easy or completly impossble. I can’t count how many times that game got me completly red faced.

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle on Gameboy. (I’ve heard/seen that the NES Rocky and Bullwinkle game is pretty horrible too, but I’ve never played it. NES and GB versions of the game are both done differently but the story is the same).

Maybe you could do a fan-based script again like you did for Deadly Towers? I’ve always wanted to see one of those again.

    • December 9, 2013 at 8:03 pm

Oh, shit. Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends for the NES is my least favorite game of ALL TIME. If you did this, I would be so happy.

  • November 17, 2013 at 12:35 pm

For Christmas how about Daze before Christmas. I Know this might be a hard on to get since it was a pal release only, but I remember it being really bad and it’s one of the only Christmas games that’s not a movie tie in.

    November 17, 2013 at 12:42 pm

You should review Contra Force! The “third” game.

    • November 18, 2013 at 5:20 am

yeah it was an awful redheaded stepchild/bastard in the series…sadly because of the slowdown, we will never know how good the game really was…

Please say something about Rocky Rodent for SNES! I don’t care if you rip it to shreds, I just want someone to say something about it!

    • November 18, 2013 at 6:18 pm

Panic! for Sega CD would make a good AVGN or James and Mike Play episode, in my opinion.

I’d love to see a review of the Toy Story games. I don’t know if they are quite old enough, but they sure do suck.

    • November 17, 2013 at 8:49 pm

Wtf? Toy Story 2 is an amazingly well done game and Toy Story 3 is alright too, even though the storymode is very short and easy.

      November 18, 2013 at 12:13 am

Today, I submit for your approval two games. On two different systems from two separate respected publishers, they share the same genre, but both games are more or less unplayable by the exact same mistake made in each.

Exhibit A: You know what’s awesome? Beat ’em up games. You know who’s a great publisher? Konami! Imagine how great a Konami beat ’em up would be…then remember that vision was realized by NES title “The Adventures of Bayou Billy.” Imagine a game so hard that you’ll be dead by the time you reach the third generic thug. Good luck beating up even the most lowly of enemy fodder! The only good thing about it is the soundtrack.

Exhibit B: Still playing Atari 2600 in the late ’80s? Jealous of the kids with NESs that get ports of arcade games like Double Dragon? Wait a minute, there’s a port of Double Dragon for the 2600! And who made it–Activision! And look at this–it even has 2 player co-op with 4 sprites on screen (Ha ha, eat it, NES owners, with your bastardized version of D.D.)! The music and graphics are actually an admirable attempt for this aging piece of hardware. But wait…the hit detection is awful. Most players can’t even get past the first couple enemies! I hope you like that first screen, because it’s all you’ll ever see in this game!

      The prosecution rests.

      • November 21, 2013 at 4:29 am

I too crave a Bayou Billy review! The fuckin opening… the text that scrolls only a few letters at a time… and thinking you can use an NES Zapper only to realize you could only use it on the title screen… ya, it sucks donkey balls.

    • November 20, 2013 at 7:31 am

Toy Story for the Genesis and SNES was AWESOME. it’s not a 10/10 game. But for sure is one of the best Disney games of the 16 bit era, on par with mickey mania but the controls are a little better.

    • Santa Horse

      November 20, 2013 at 9:08 am

I don’t know what you’ve been smoking but there hasn’t been a single bad Toy Story game that I can remember. Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 both received decent games, and even the racing game was ok. Even the game based on the Buzz Lightyear cartoon was more than adequate. None of them were anything special but to say “they sure do suck” either suggests you’ve never played any of them and are making a false assumption based on the fact they’re movie-based games, or that you have standards that can never be reached.

Rocky and Bullwinkle on NES / SNES, bugs bunnys rabbit rampage on SNES, daze before christmas on SNES, the pagemaster on SNES or do a Stallone special like you did with Schwarzenegger.

  • Andrew Wood

    November 17, 2013 at 1:21 pm

Lord of the Rings on SNES. Do it when the next Hobbit comes out. The game Whizz on SNES would also make a good review.

  • November 17, 2013 at 1:24 pm

I think you need to work on the movie instead of a new nerd episode.

  • November 17, 2013 at 1:32 pm

Someone else mentioned Time Lord for NES. That is a great choice.

  • Riggah

    November 17, 2013 at 1:32 pm

I have two requests. The first is Mystery Quest for nes. I have had the game since my childhood and still do not get this game. It is a very strange, bizarre and pretty bad game. I think there is alot you can use for an AVGN episode.
For my second request I think it would be cool to do a Disney themed episode similar to your Star Wars, Atari Sports and the like. There have been some good Disney games on older systems (Aladdin and Lion King) I think it would be cool to look at Adventures in the Magic Kingdom, Mickey Mousecapade, Duck Tales, Talespin, Darkwing Duck, Little Mermaid etc..

    • Jinks2001

      November 18, 2013 at 12:50 pm

The disney idea is great imo. That would be a 30 min long episode at least. Maybe a multiple episodes.

Mendel Palace is a good balance of fun multiplayer gameplay, and shear WTF’ery.

  • Ross Morgan

    November 17, 2013 at 1:36 pm

I would really like to see a ff1 review because that game is retarded hard for no reason, best place to show how much of a pain this game is would be the marsh cave where you gotta fight a battle every damn step you take.

    • Ross Morgan

      November 17, 2013 at 1:39 pm

Another good game review in the style of The Wizard/Mario 3 would be good too, that’s probably my all time favorite episode. Something like a Zelda 1 and Link to the Past or Final Fantasy 2/4 and 3/6 (1 is good but fuck that hard shit)

    • November 18, 2013 at 1:00 pm

FF1 is actually a good game. If you compare it to Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest(same time period) it’s just about the same amount of enemy encounters. I do however dislike the marsh cave no matter how many times I play it! If you want a bad RPG James should do Quest 64

    • November 20, 2013 at 7:34 am

Actually there is a reason, The glitch gremlin had a great time with NES FF1. Half the spells don’t work, There is no way to know what they do, and some do no nothing. For the time, it was novelty. in the present, I would play the GBA version because the NES version is outdated and full of bugs.

      • Dur

        November 24, 2013 at 8:01 pm

My cartridge of FF1 got so messed up over the years.. the last time I tried to play it, my characters would keep falling to their death animation and then stand back up throughout the battle. The longer you took to select all their battle commands, the faster they would pop up and down. After a certain speed, which took about a minute of standing idle, the characters would stay dead for that battle starting from the bottom character up.. it would result in a game over if they all stayed down but would be normal and alive if you finished the battle. It was like someone put a time limit on choosing your moves lol

    • November 24, 2013 at 12:48 pm

This, so much. With all the remakes of it out there, the NES version of Final Fantasy is almost unplayable in comparison. Everything in it is broken.

  • November 17, 2013 at 1:40 pm

I would love to see an episode about shitty Sonic games. Sonic 3D blast was the bane of my childhood

    • November 20, 2013 at 7:35 am

why everybody seems to hate Sonic 3d blast. The only game that was easier than 3d blast , was the first one. I don’t think 3d blast is SO bad as people say.

    • January 1, 2014 at 11:30 am

You were close to getting it. He reviewed Sonic BLAST and Sonic Labyrinth. Sonic Blast, which has nothing to do with 3D Blast, though Labyrinth is close.

  • Tim Harrod

    November 17, 2013 at 1:40 pm

I trust the Nerd to tell us what needs reviewing, but I’ve always liked the Atari 2600 reviews. There must be an Atari game that was popular at the time but which actually sucks.

You should do a Power Rangers Games review for the Power Rangers 20th Anniversary. I’d also love to see a review of Dragon Power for the NES, considering it was the first Dragon Ball game to come to the U.S., even though they got rid of most of the references to the Dragon Ball series upon localization because it wasn’t a thing in America and wouldn’t be until at least 1995.

Honestly the single biggest request I have for you is a huge order. I would like you to review bad Sonic games. You already stated twice you don’t know which ones. If you allow me to email you. I can help since I’m a big fan of Sonic games.

  • November 17, 2013 at 2:01 pm

    Okay, Here we go:
Bubsy: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind (SNES, Genesis)
    Chuck Rock: Promoting Obesity (Genesis)
    The Simpsons: Bart’s Nightmare (SNES)
    Packy and Marlon (SNES)
    James Pond: Underwater Agent (Genesis)

Games that I think would make great AVGN episodes : Pet in TV (Playsation), such a weird game ; and Tintin Prisoners of the Sun (SNES), a no brainer : so, so, so many things that are wrong in each levels.
Thanks for your dedication to entertainment 🙂

    November 17, 2013 at 2:07 pm

I registered just to post this. I would love to see you review some of the smaller cheepo games on the NES. NES users sometimes did not know how big of a game they were buying. Urban Champion was no Super Mario Bros, for example. I’d love to see an episode on just a bunch of short games like Circus Charlie, Chubby Cherub, and Sky Kid. I hated those when I was younger.

  • November 17, 2013 at 2:10 pm

James, I have always hoped to hear your take on Wizards & Warriors for the NES. Not necessarily a horrible game, but definitely unique and strange. This might actually work very well for a James & Mike Play episode.

Since you have already spoke briefly about games made by companies to advertise a product, and a full episode about Mckids. Why not cap off the theme with Pesterminator,or the Pepsi Man game? These or other advertising games can be mentioned briefly.Pesterminator might be a fun full episode, but i think you can lump all of these together.

I would request a Sega Dreamcast review. Although it is more modern than most of the Nerd’s adventures, it does have some nostalgia (this coming from an early 80’s baby).

  • Justin Cook

    November 17, 2013 at 2:40 pm

Muppet Adventure, Bebe’s Kids, Mega Man 1 & 3 for Dos, Some pro Wrestling games, a compilation of games that are awful but are too simple to be their own episode like Color A Dinosaur & Taboo: the Sixth Sense & ect., and to be different since it’s a more recent game Sonic the Hedgehog 2006.

  • Justin Cook

    November 17, 2013 at 2:48 pm

I also like an episode where you talk about Rareware after being purchased by Microsoft, although that could be considered too recent also.

  • Rezor

Please review James Bond Jr. on NES. I’ve lost my patience on this game. It’s hard as hell and frustrating as shit.

  • Justin Cook

    November 17, 2013 at 2:57 pm

One last suggestion. How about games that didn’t translate well from going from 2d to 3d like the N64 Castlevania games you talked about in one of your previous videos. Earthworm Jim 3D, Megaman X7, Bubsy 3D, and Contra: Legacy of War are a few examples I can think of.

  • Weepel

    November 17, 2013 at 3:12 pm

I’d like to see a video on adventure island 1 for nes. I have a lot of nostalgia for that game and I want to like it, but after you repeat the same 6 levels over and over again it drives you crazy. I think I only got to the second to last level. Also spiderman and xmen arcades revenge on snes.

A Board James DVD sounds sweet! (Board James is my second favorite Cinemassacre show).

For Christmas, I don’t have an specific game in mind but I’ll say my favorite Christmas episodes have been those that are about many games with a common theme (like Winter Games or Bible Games), so maybe something like that? 😀 .

OK, point it out if I’m wrong, but how is it possible there is no AVGN review of Ikari Warrior II: Victory Road? I thought there was, but I sure can’t find it. This is a game where you move slower even than in Ikari Warriors, where it’s nigh impossible to proceed without taking a huge amount of damage, where cheating with ABBA (the buttons, not the band) is required, where the programming is so shoddy that going to the item select screen causes a black screen that lasts for so long you’re not sure if the game’s having a stroke or if you are, and the final insult: you’re lied to about what weapon to use on the final boss. Seriously. The game literally tells you to use a weapon that won’t kill the final boss! And, it has speech, because the arcade version had speech. I’m pretty sure it consists of two terrible audio turds: something resembling “C’mon, let’s fight!” and “Rah!” You will get tired of hearing these things. They’re only slightly less annoying than the day-to-night sequences in Castlevania II.

    – The Adventures of Gilligan’s Island on the NES.
    – Games based on cartoons (Ren & Stimpy, Flintstones, Rugrats, Jetsons, etc…).
    – Power Ranger games.
    – The Pokémon phenomenon.
    – Most difficult games for retro consoles.
    – Earnest Evans on the Sega Genesis.
    – An obscure console (Bandai Apple Pippin, VideoBrain, Emerson Arcadia, Sega Pico, etc.)

    That’s MY AVGN wishlist 🙂

    • Kenshiroh

      November 17, 2013 at 8:35 pm

    1. Bubsy- Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind (SNES).
Like Sonic, only worse. Made me very dizzy and ill after more than 20 minutes of gameplay.
You could make a theme episode about games that go too fast for there to actually be more gameplay then just mashing buttons, and combine it with:

    2. Blades of Steel (GameBoy).
Enjoyable, in a so-bad-it’s-fun way. Especially the in-match fisticuffs.

    3. Spider-man and the X-men (SNES).
You didn’t tackle this one in the Spider-man or X-men episodes. One of those games that gets too hard too fast, with controls that don’t help and too many parts where one tiny mistake means game over.

    4. Ultima 6 (SNES).
The kind of game that only works on PC. Horrible day/night cycle, gameplay consists mostly of getting lost, ect.

    5. Flintstones (SNES).
Strange board game / platformer hybrid. And by strange I mean bad.

Have The Nerd playing a shitty game (obviously) and The Nerd is mad that he has to play old shitty games and not new good games. Then, Angry Joe comes up and shocks the hell out of the Nerd and forces him to play some of the newer Sonic games (including the Kinect one).

  • November 17, 2013 at 4:01 pm

I would love to see you do a review of Double Dragon, the original NES game. It is almost as hard to play as Castlevania & Ninja Gaiden. Also, for your Christmas review, I found out about this weird game called “Santa Claus Saves The Earth” for Playstation. That might be good for a laugh, cuz I saw some gameplay, and jeez was it bad.

    Wall Street Kid
    Where’s Waldo
    The Simpsons: Bart’s Nightmare
    The Simpsons: Virtual Bart

How about a video where you review bad games starring advertising mascots? Chester Cheetah’s Wild Wild Quest, Cool Spot, Yo Noid, Izzy: Quest for the Rings etc.?

  • November 17, 2013 at 4:09 pm

I’d like to see a review of the Sega Saturn or some of the games on there like Sonic R.

    November 17, 2013 at 4:34 pm

Definitely Captain Comic. That game is so unfair and difficult. Would love to see the nerd attempt to beat this game as it has haunted my childhood memories. What better than to play a game that is a blue cartridge as well….

  • RichardE

    November 17, 2013 at 4:56 pm

    My request are:

    • Superman for Nintendo 64 revisited

While a great episode, you never talked about the Easy Mode which disables the rings and makes the game a bit more playble. It’d be great if you could return to this title.

    • Captain Novolin for SNES

Not much to say about this, but a terrible game about diabetes and fighting jumping donuts, sodas and other sugary things seems right up the nerd’s alley.

    • Rise of the Robots for CD-i

Do I need say more? If you haven’t got access to the CD-i version, any other version is fine as well. They’re all terrible.

Looking forward to whatever you have got in store. 🙂

    Time Lord!

A few weeks ago I picked up a copy of the game on a whim, not really knowing anything about it. It was developed by Rare, so I figured it was bound to be good… but holy crap, it was like it was MADE to be Nerd fodder. Even if you don’t do a video of it, at least give it a genuine try – it’s an experience I’ll always remember fondly!

EarthBound on Super NES. It would mean the world to me.

  • November 17, 2013 at 5:06 pm

I’d like to see Quest 64 for Nintendo 64

  • November 17, 2013 at 5:07 pm

Carmageddon 64. I consider it worse then Superman 64, and this review from a british N64 Magazine pretty much sums it up.

    http://gaminghell.co.uk/images/n64tribute-carmageddon64b.jpg

If you notice the final verdit, I think the Nerd reacting that (Smash the game against a wall) would be an awesome moment.

  • November 17, 2013 at 5:08 pm

Captain Novolin. Its a SNES game that has you playing as a superhero with diabetes who has no ways of fighting the evil armies of alien junk food that attacks the world. I’m not making this up, it’s a game designed to teach kids about diabetes and stuff like that.

POKEMON! there are so many great things you can touch on over several different old games. The original Red Blue Yellow, Pokemon snap, pokemon pinball, pokemon trading card game the video game…

  • November 17, 2013 at 5:13 pm

Nice news James! You should review Space Ace for Super Nintendo or Bubsy.

  • November 17, 2013 at 5:16 pm

Ah Could you do Double Dragon V on SNES? That was a terrible game or the Cliff Hangar games, you could do some Stallone games!

  • November 17, 2013 at 5:19 pm

Lord of the Rings for the SNES is a shitty one. You could also take a different approach, instead of reviewing a game you could review a company, and that company is, our favorite, LJN, make it one of those informational episodes

  • November 17, 2013 at 5:21 pm

I really enjoy when you review consoles, or a generation of consoles. That to me is truly taking us back to the past. So I was hoping you would review the 5th generation. Playstation 1, N64 and Sega Saturn. This would obviously be a long review, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t do it for years. Take your time, any work you do is awesome. I know that 5th gen is a little late for the Nerd, but now that 8th gen is here, I feel like it’s time you dive into that generation more. I would like you to review the game Clocktower. I know that it’s also on the SNES, so you could do a review of like all of them. Specifically the Playstation version. But I haven’t played any other, so I wouldn’t really know. Again, thanks for your hard work James. And you too Mike, your both great!

“Porky Pig’s Haunted Holiday” for SNES. I think it’d be a perfect December review. It’s got a lot to make fun of, a bit of a challenge, while not being too long.

Game review requests? How about Legacy of Wizard on NES or Yo Noid! on NES?

How about a review of “Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcade’s Revenge” (1992) for the SNES?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man_and_the_X-Men_in_Arcade's_Revenge

Or how about a video where you review whole bunch of crappy superhero crossover games, even if the individual reviews are very short? You know, to celebrate the many Marvel movies coming out now, like Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier?

Oh God, PLEASE do Fist of the North Star for NES. Apparently it was baed off a good Japanese Manga (I’ve never read it or seen the anime) but I hear it’s up there with Super Pitfall and Action 52 as one of the worst NES games EVER. Thanks very much James! 🙂

    • Kenshiroh

      November 17, 2013 at 8:49 pm

It’s not actually “Action 52” bad, but it’s not great.

The NES Fist of the North Star is actually based on the second Famicom game in the series. There was also a Game Boy VS. fighting game as well.

Black Belt for Master System and Last Battle for Genesis were also originally Fist of the North Star games in their original Japanese incarnations. Last Battle was also ported to C-64 and Amiga in Europe.

Here’s a list of the games in the series.

You would want to skip parts 3, 4 and 5 on the Nintendo systems as they are RPGs.

    • Solitary

      November 22, 2013 at 2:24 am

Wasn’t Fist of the North Star actually already mentioned in the Christmas special?

    Hey James,
You should review all Bad Sonic Games on New Episode of AVGN.

Here’s a list of all Bad and OK Sonic Games you should try it and see if it makes it to the review.

    1. Sonic The Hedgehog (Sega Master System / Sega Game Gear)
    2. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Sega Master System / Sega Game Gear)
    3. Sonic Chaos (Sega Master System / Sega Game Gear)
    4. Sonic Triple Trouble (Sega Game Gear)
    5. Sonic Labyrinth (Sega Game Gear)
    6. Sonic Spinball (Sega Game Gear)
    7. Sonic Drift 1 & 2 (Sega Game Gear)
    8. Sonic Blast (Sega Game Gear)
    9. Tails’ Skypatrol (Sega Game Gear)
    10. Tails Adventure (Sega Game Gear)
    11. Sonic The Hedgehog’s Gameworld (Sega Pico)
    12. Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine (Sega Genesis / Sega Game Gear)
    13. Sonic 3D Blast (Sega Genesis / Sega Saturn / PC)
    14. Sonic Jam (Sega Saturn)
    15. Sonic R (Sega Saturn / PC)
    16. Sonic Shuffle (Sega Dreamcast)

Then the next Sonic Game is going to be in the next episode of AVGN. Where the Nerd is going to review a Shitty Modern Game for the very first time. That game is…

    Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 (PS3 / Xbox 360)

Yes, there’s a lot more to talk about Sonic 06 and there’s more bad things to talk about why Sonic 06 is the worst Modern Game and Sonic Game of all time.

I hope you review must of Bad Sonic Games and some OK Sonic Games in New Episode of AVGN.

    Good luck!

    • Jackred89

      November 18, 2013 at 2:38 pm

James already stated he won’t do Sonic 06. They want to do a couple of bad Sonic games. It just has to be out before 2006.

    Airwolf for NES

And if you can, Dragon Warrior II. I heard that game has its flaws and some are major ones despite Dragon Warrior III (AKA Dragon Quest III, its real name) being one of the best games on NES (I read somewhere that it ranked #3 on a Famitsu poll about the fan’s favorite games).

  • Rick

    November 17, 2013 at 7:19 pm

How about Yo!Noid. or, hell, if we’re jumping from the typical NES flavor, how about The Hulk game for the Sega Genesis or Rocket Knight Adventures for the Sega Genesis (Hard games, not bad ones)

  • November 17, 2013 at 7:24 pm

I’d love to see the Nerd’s take on all of the point-and-click games on the NES, such as Deja Vu, Shadowgate, and Maniac Mansion. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a negative review, but there’s a lot of anger-potential since you can get stumped and stuck in those games really easily.

    November 17, 2013 at 7:46 pm

Karate Champ (NES) — awful controls that make you want to run to the top of the screen and lay a beat-down on the annoying judge who keeps barking out, “BEGIN!”, “POINT!” and “STOP!”

Yo! Noid (NES) — crummy gameplay so awful you start to wonder what, exactly, a Noid is. A creepy child molester in red pajamas, maybe?

    • November 18, 2013 at 5:23 am

another problem with karate champ was that it makes no sense (the point system). you just get randomly scored a half or a whole point. but really i would lol with my friend everytime yanni (the ref. guy) would yell those words out. stop! judge! haha. the hit detection is unacceptable. that game was not tested before release

      • November 18, 2013 at 10:09 pm

I’d also like to see him re-do his Karate Kid review(no running into enemies on purpose this time, the game is shitty enough that you don’t need to do that).

The Resident Evil games! That may not work for Christmas, but would sure work for next Halloween!

If that franchise doesn’t work, I’d say the average to mediocre Sonic games (Sonic 06 included), Beetlejuice, and/or Time Lord (not to be confused with an alien race from a sci-fi show that’s so daunting, I don’t need to say it)!

It would be cool if you got the chance to talk about the Satellaview for SNES, and the games that came out for it. The first that come to mind are the Mario games and Radical Dreamers, the game that was a pseudo-sequel to Chrono Trigger and was re-worked later into Chrono Cross.

  • Kenshiroh

    November 17, 2013 at 9:09 pm

    Space Shuttle Project for NES.

    ALF
There are two different ALF games that I know of: one for Sega Master System and one for Commodore 64. They are completely different games and they both suck. I’m pretty sure you’re familiar with the Master System one, as it has been shown in the AVGN opening credits. The C-64 ALF game is sort of like a really crappy version of Pac-Man that makes the Master System version look like Super Mario Bros. by comparison.

Ahh… More horror games, please! I mean games that actually TRY to be scary or creepy or something, and fail horribly..or perhaps succeed hilariously? Games like Sweet Home, or Night Trap, or the first Resident Evil. You know, games like that.

But in all seriousness…just about whatever you come up with, James, will be loved by all so really anything is fine by me. I absolutely cannot wait for the next AVGN episode.

Cosmic Race for the PS1. It’s a Japan-only release but if you can get it, it’s an unholy grail of putrid polygons, hopelessly broken as if it was programmed by a blindfolded chimp smacking a keyboard with their own shit. • Fudginton

    November 18, 2013 at 1:40 am

    I have 2 wishes

First, i’d like it if you could try and go back to your own past. Over the years i think that the nerd as a character has dissapeared a litle and your latest episodes have felt more like its just you telling us how things are… like actual reviews. I don’t consider that a bad thing, but it would be fun to have the original nerd back for an episode or two.

Secondly, the game. Judging by your post it would seem like you are going to do a bunch of games quickly, and i think that what gamers would love to see are some of the rarest nintendo games out there. Many of them suck and thats why they are rare so that could be a fun episode.

  • November 18, 2013 at 2:04 am

James Im your generation, have the same passion for similiar things, buy your mofoing dvds, I gotta tell you man, why no love for The Immortal? I fucking loved that game as a kid. Preferred the Genesis version for the gore and better graphics, but still dug on the n.e.s. version. EPIC FUCKING GAME! Same goes for Maniac Mansion. The game so good I got it two birthdays in a row, due to trading it for River city Ransom I think.

  • November 18, 2013 at 2:07 am

I also have to put in that I think your Swordquest avgn was the greatest single episode you have done. Perfect example of why I watch and purchase the shows. You tapped into something bad to the bone on that one.

Any bad N64 game. A couple of fairly crappy ones I’ve played are Starshot: Space Circus Fever and Toy Story 2, but I don’t know if they’re quite AVGN material, especially since they’re slow paced. I hear Carmageddon is pretty bad.

Aside from that, maybe a Sega Dreamcast special? It’s relatively recent, but given how Japan-heavy it is, you’re bound to find some crazy shit. I’d love to see your reactions to Seaman and Typing of the Dead! 🙂

  • November 18, 2013 at 4:12 am

I’d love to see an entire episode on Stallone games. You already did Rambo for NES and Rocky for SMS & Coleco, but you could do Rambo II for SMS, Judge Dredd for SNES, Cliffhanger for SEGA CD, Demolition Man for Genesis, and possibly even Cobra for Amstrad CPC.

  • TheWad

    November 18, 2013 at 6:10 am

How about the single worst NES game I’ve ever played: Heroes of the Lance? I know Spoony already reviewed it, but it bears being reviewed by multiple people, as it really is THAT BAD. As a kid, I enjoyed virtually every NES game I ever played — even supposed “bad games” like Deadly Towers, Friday the 13th, Roger Rabbit, etc. — but Heroes of the Lance was a stinker from the word go.

I can also see you having some fun with Amagon, as that’s… a really hard game to defend.

Might also be nice to see you comment on Spelunker, which honestly isn’t that bad a game, but is rather infamous for featuring the single weakest protagonist in video game history. In Japan, he became a meme that survives to this very day, even spawning an anime series, “Spelunker-sensei,” where the spelunker dude is a high school teacher who’s constantly miserable and dying.

I love the AVGN episodes that briefly cover many games so in that sense. All the bad movie and tv show tie-ins on NES you haven’t covered yet.

  • November 18, 2013 at 7:52 am

I would LOVE to see Justin come back as Spidey and you guys do more Spidey games all freeform like the first time. Especially the SNES game: Spiderman/Xmen: Arcade’s Revenge. The Spiderman episode is my fav. episode. Maybe get a pizza shoved up someone’s ass finally? HA! Keep up the good work! (also if you can squeeze it in, more music podcasts!!!!) Thanks!

Would love to see a review of the Bubsy games. Perhaps the most infamous example of mascot gaming from the 90s. To be fair, I actually like the first game(but that’s probably the nostalgia talking). Bubsy 3D is supposed to be utter shit.

  • Connor Lefevers

    November 18, 2013 at 9:03 am

Bubsy 3D: Furbitten Planet or really any Bubsy game THEY ARE ALL HORRIBLE!

Would make for a great review, lots of content and most of all the game does not hide it at ALL the whole game looks as bad as it plays.

If any game deserves to be on your show at any point in time, it’s a game I had blocked from memory called Tail of the Sun, you play as Adam or Eve and you explore this garden of eden like place with no idea what you’re looking for or even doing, and everything kills the shit out of you, after exploring for hours I’ve never found a single weapon.

James, you should do a tribute review to the Final Fantasy series. I know you mentioned Final Fantasy III (6) as one of your favorite games for the SNES. You truly are missing out on some of the other games in the series. Being 25, a grew up starting with FF6 but the games become masterpieces once you hit the Playstation (FF7, 8, and 9). They’ve lost some of their charm when FF13 came out but I have faith FF15 will be amazing. FF14 is a MMO, the second MMO in the series but they fixed it up and I can’t stop playing it.

I’d like to see the Nerd review Time Lord for the NES. That game has everything from a cheesy story to bad controls. I got that game and Xexyz Christmas of 1991. Can you guess which one my siblings and I played more?

  • LightningLuigi

You should check out The Flintstones for Sega Master System. It is hilariously bad on so many levels, not just in bad design, but complete ineptitude.

  • November 18, 2013 at 12:09 pm

James, instead of a single game, do something extra special for December. The new consoles are coming out. The PS4, XBOX One, etc. Christmas is usually the time when someone gets a brand new console. For most of us who are in our 30s now it was either Sega Genesis or Super Nintendo. How about doing a review on two systems that went virtually unnoticed. The TurboGrafx-16 Entertainment System and the Neo Geo. I know you have both consoles and some games for them, so it’s not like I am giving you such a tall order. Just give them a small introduction, show the worst and best kind of deal. That’s my request, and I think it’s one everyone would support doing.

  • November 18, 2013 at 12:36 pm

Hi James, Love your videos, thanks for sharing them with us! A game to review?: Definitely Mystery Quest for the NES!!! Rented that along with Fist of the North Star for my birthday when I was 11 or so. Both of those games still haunt my childhood memory, but Mystery Quest especially. In my mind, I’m still stuck on the same impassable level! Maybe I need to get a copy of it, beat the game now that I can reason things out better, and exercise the demonic curse that game has inflicted upon my soul!

  • November 18, 2013 at 12:53 pm

Honestly I’d love to see the nerd do a bad RPG. The top of this list is Quest 64! My second choice is Urban Champion since Nintendo keeps rehashing it like it was actually a good game.

  • November 18, 2013 at 1:17 pm

NES – The Mafat Conspiracy. The 3d maze in that game is THE WORST thing i’ve ever seen. I actually would rather play Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde than that part of the game, and often did.

SNES – The Lawnmower Man. Same 3d CRAP as Mafat conspiracy except you have to FLY through it at high speeds. Ugh. Plus all of the sprites are TINY AS S******

You’re probably too old to have played Pokemon, but I’m sure these legendary fake Pokemon games for Game Boy Color would be appreciated. They’re called Keitai Denju Telefang, but marketed in the West as Pokemon Diamond and Jade. This is something I’d like to see from the Nerd.

Watching the Tiger Electronics episode again, considering the lack of PLaystation games the Nerd has done and considering how popular zombies have become, why not the first Resident Evil game? You can spend the entire episode on the opening to that game alone! Also, I always write and send this request, but I shall do so here too. Lagoon for the SNES as you have done very few RPG games or SNES games. Sorry you have so little time, but I do appreciate your website’s content!

Or just do a 3DO mash up there’s a ton of nutty games Like “crash and burn”.

    Yo!Noid or Wrecking Crew (NES)
Carmageddon 64, Quest 64 and Daikatana. Also the N64DD would be interesting.
Oh, and also Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. Not a Video Game though, but it sure is a shitty game!

  • Matt Graham

    November 18, 2013 at 3:55 pm

Somebody already mentioned Lethal Weapon, and I want to cast my vote for that. Another case of an awesome movie (which ends on Christmas day!!) that produced a handful of shitty games. I know it’s on NES, SNES, Gameboy, and I think it was Commodore 64 too. I don’t know if they’re all the same game just ported over or not, but it would be great to watch the Nerd tear them down!

My brothers and I only got a few games each year. I did well on my report card and finally got the chance to pick the game. I searched around the store for so long my mom threatened to make me leave without a game, so I chose Spelunker. My brothers were so angry with me for my terrible choice that they still remind me of it 25 years later when I suggest a movie to watch or a game to play. I would LOVE to see you review this game.

Duck Dodgers: The Marvin Missions is a personal love to hate game of mine. Great graphics and sfx, lousy gameplay. I used a 50 life code to beat this fucker and almost ran out of lives. It’s that much of a pain in the ass. And the ending sucks to boot. Keep this one on your rectal radar James, it’s got AVGN written all over it.

Also, I hope you and yours have a happy Thanksgiving. Thanks for all the great content :D.

Super Smash T.V. for Super Nintendo, I used to spend alot of time playing this game together with my nephew in my childhood and early teen years until the fateful day my nephews’s snes didn’t want to play games anymore.. In my own honest opinion I don’t think this is a bad game, but we found it to be frustratlingy hard. I learned that it was an arcade game at first and then ported to nes/snes and sega ms/md and computer systems of that time. Would love to see the Nerd’s opinion on this.

    NHL Stanley Cup (SNES)
    Switchblade (Atari ST, Amiga)

    November 18, 2013 at 5:35 pm

Looking at your game collection, James, here are some games that catch my eye:
Final Fantasy (NES) [The original version of FF1 is notoriously hard, which should make for some cool fun]
Alf (Master System) [You can literally buy a book in the game that ends up resetting your game… Forcing you to start the game over from the beginning: Perfect “Nerd Rage Moment” right there]
Action Max [I know that you’ve said that there isn’t much to say about this sytem, but I think it could work as a short “mini-sode”]

Plus, should you ever get a copy of it yourself (or you could take my copy… I’ll gladly mail it to you):
Spirit of Spped 1937 (Dreamcast) [It’s probably too “recent” for The Nerd, but it would make an awesome way to have a “final battle” against LJN… A game so bad that Acclaim brought back a dead label just so that they wouldn’t have to put their own logo on it]

  • November 18, 2013 at 5:35 pm

Bucky O Hare on NES. Not a bad game (in fact I think it has some of the best music on the system) but it’s hard as hell. Or Wizards & Warriors on NES

I would love to see a Shitty Santa games episode where you review some games about Santa that are bad for the Christmas season, and believe me there are bad Santa games just look for them, also alongside the episode have Santa come out of your Chimney ‘assuming you have one’ AFTER you play one of the bad Santa games and say along the lines of “who ever got these games must of been a shit head, and instead of getting some coal they got these shitty games” then Santa will keep giving you games for I guess being a shit head. IDK sounds funny in concept.

Also forgot you do have a chimney (remembered on in Winter games episode) “Burn motherFkr burn!” LOL good episode.

Hey James! Since you recently did a video where you and Mike and Bootsy played Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, I think a good contrast to that awesome game (and great fodder for the Nerd) would be Power Punch II. It was designed to be a sequel to MTPO, featuring Mike Tyson again, but was developed by a third party for Nintendo. They soundly rejected it, and you (and the Nerd) should be able to see why.

There is a shitty Robocop remake coming out, and there’s scores of shitty Robocop games out there. Except for Robocop VS The Terminator on Genesis, that game was tits.

    • November 18, 2013 at 10:35 pm

How do you know it’s shitty when you haven’t seen it yet? I for one think the remake looks really good, but it definitely would be a great opportunity to review some Robocop games.

      • November 26, 2013 at 5:37 pm

Have you seen the trailer? There’s no point in it where Robocop’s wife isn’t cooking or crying (misogyny), plus they took Anne’s character, made her into a man & killed him off before Robocop becomes Robocop (more misogyny).

        It’ll be Dragonball Evolution bad.

I have two requests. First, The Adventures of Rad Galaxy on NES. I played that game one time yesterday, and it’s bullcrap. There’s confusing platforms that you wouldn’t notice unless you found them yourself, frustrating layouts that require going back for simple mistakes, ear-splitting music, a dumb health bar, and you have to go through a long animation everytime you die.

Now my second request, which might be out of the question because it’s fairly recent. Mattel, the creators of the Intellivision, released another console in ’06 called HyperScan. It had a neat little gimmick along with it: You scan trading cards in the console for use in the game (like choosing a character). However, it was plagued by long load times, a small library of terrible games, an awful RFID reader, and a cheap, dopey design. This would probably be too recent to do on AVGN, but justice must be served for this pile of crap.

Here’s a list of games I own and have played which are quite bad which I feel may be good suggestions:
Bubsy 1 2 and 3D, Pink Goes to Hollywood (SNES), Eek! The Cat (SNES), Porky Pig’s Haunted Holidays (SNES), Snoopy’s Super Sports Spectacular (NES), Captain America and the Avengers (SNES), Out to Lunch (SNES), Disney’s Adventures in the Magical Kingdom (NES)

On the contrary, relatively good games I’d like to see reviewed (James and Mike Play) or at least mentioned at one point would be Goof Troop (SNES), Ghoul School (NES), and Tetris Attack (SNES)

I highly recommend the Home Alone games. The NES, SNES, Genesis ones are all different. Also you could even touch on Home Alone 2 again for SNES and Genesis. While the SNES version might be the same you could note the cutscenes look like some of the worst for the SNES. Also the Genesis game seems to be made a bit better and it’s it’s own unique experience.

Plus this games are Christmas related games, so even if you want to a lot of different types of a Christmas game or just do one quick review of a game there you have some options now 🙂

I am huge fan of James and Mike and their videos, not just AVGN, although that is how I discovered them. Ironically I stumbled across AVGN when I was searching for info about a possible Nightmare on Elm St sequel and stumbled across the review of the Nightmare on Elm St NES game, which I actually own and I’ve been watching ever since. Personally, my favorite AVGN episodes are the ones that center around obscure consoles and not necessarily the games themselves. I would love to see AVGN episodes that center on portable systems like the multiple variations of the Game Boy and lesser popular ones like the Lynx and the Game Gear. Or maybe consoles that didn’t really catch on in the US like the Neo Geo, which I think even had a CD version or the TurboGraphix 16. As far as game episodes I would love to see more recent games, like Blasto on Ps1 or Saw/Saw 2 Flesh and Blood for Xbox 360.

You asked for what big requests you have left to do. Earlier I threw bad Sonic games out there. Yet I didn’t give you any reason. So in advance I apologize for this being long. Although this should help you plan the episode out better.

    1. Sonic Labyrinth on Sega Game Gear
A lot of people say Sonic 06 is the worst. Honestly most of them never played this. Without question this is the single worst Sonic game. All the levels including boss fights are too similar. Terrible music with amazing sound effects. Everyone knows Sonic is suppose to be fast. In this game he walks incredibly slow. Yes you heard me right slow as shit. In some levels it isn’t made clear what to do. You also got to watch for cheap deaths. You only can jump near a bumper. Oh ok does that make any sense. No it doesn’t they had to be on drugs. When this horrible abomination was made. There’s barely any secrets at all. Uninspired enemies with three keys you must collect. It’s like Sonic 3D Blast with flickies. Although you can’t lose keys. Sadly that’s the better part of this game. Really go play this game James. I swear it makes you regret playing. I could go on & on but it’s really that bad.

    2. Sonic Drift on Sega Game Gear
I’m sure you are aware of Mario Kart series having rip offs. Well this is the single worst racing game I ever played. You only have four characters to choose from. The tracks appear to be similar to each other. You know in Mario Kart you get power ups & weapons. You don’t in Sonic Drift at all. The closest thing in the entire game to that is the bumper. What a joke with terrible music & sound effects. It’s another really bad Sonic game James.

    3. Sonic Drift 2 on Sega Game Gear
Believe it or not Sonic Drift got a sequel. It does have better graphics & music. They added a few characters to the roster. They made the tracks more like Mario Kart. Besides this most problems the original has. This game also has although it’s slightly better. It’s still a really bad Sonic game. For a sequel you expect for them to push the envelope more. Nope not here all they did was add more characters. Yet spent more time on making the tracks. So the best part is obviously the tracks.

    4. Sonic 2 on Sega Game Gear
Not to be confused with Sonic on Sega Genesis. Sonic 2 was one of the first handheld games. To most fans is often considered to be the hardest Sonic game. At first it doesn’t look like that. Until you see how different it is from the other games. It has a better sound track than those terrible games. At times it isn’t made clear what you’re suppose to do. Also why doesn’t Dr. Robotnik take you on more? Again they could’ve did more with the enemies. It’s one of those you must make the requirements. Or you get try again ending.

    5. Sonic 3D Blast on Sega Genesis
One of the first tempts at a 3D Sonic games. You got to stop to rescue flickies. At times you will get confused on where to go. So far this has the best sound track. It also has the best sound effects. Although it clearly isn’t as good. The special stages are too easy to collect all the Chaos Emeralds. Again this is one of those multiple endings game. So far has the best used of enemies among bad Sonic games. In conclusion this is okay but those flickies can be annoying. Especially the fat green ones that try to stay away from you.

    6. Sonic Spinball on Sega Genesis
Compared to the bad Sonic games I just talked about. This is the one with best graphics. It also has a rememberable sound track. I for one don’t like how they design. You must collect all the Chaos Emeralds. Then find the boss to take em out. It may sound simple but good luck trying to beat just one level. It got a lot of cheap deaths with limited control of Sonic. I got to mention it can fun from time to time. But damn it sure gets annoying fast. Again there isn’t a lot of secrets. I would say for those bad Sonic games I talked about. This is probably the most replayable. I would rather keep replaying Casino Night Zone in Sonic 2. At least there they nailed the pinball style. It also has okay bonus mini games. Which some won’t make sense to you. Well at first until you watch a video on em. In conclusion it’s okay like Sonic 3D Blast.

    7. Sonic Spinball on Sega Game Gear
OMG this is fucking horrible James. Without question one of the worst Sonic games. For starters the controls are ass. They fucked up the sound track with sound effects. They didn’t do a good job with being made smaller. Literately You barely can tell what’s above or below you. As I said for the Genesis version. It has some cheap deaths which is more likely here. They also changed a part of the cover. Originally you got the classic Dr. Robotnik. Instead make way for The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog of him. They also changed his boss sprites to make this. Although both games are based on that show. So in an way it kinda make senses. But it still makes you wonder why so sudden.

    8. Sonic Shuffle on Sega Dreamcast
Believe it or not the team behind Mario Party series made this. So why does this game suck so bad? The AIs often cheat to make sure you don’t win. Uninspiring mini games that don’t even compete with Mario Party. It’s one of those really long shitty games. It also known for having a terrible story. Basically you really don’t want to play this. It’s often considered to be one of the worst Sonic spin offs.

    9. Sonic R on Sega Saturn
Unlike Sonic Drift series, Sonic R does have secrets. You get a better character rosters but limited tracks. It does take some time learning the controls. The music is okay but great sound effects. It’s very easy to learn the tracks. It has okay graphiics for the console. Terrible AIs you often dominate over. Except for the hidden characters. Those surprisingly are very good.

    10. Sonic Jam on Sega Saturn
One of the first major Sonic collections. They tried to make all these games work. As far as I know it did suffer a lot from it. Surprisingly all the lock-on games at the time are there too. Like Sonic 3D Blast, this also was one of the first 3D games. It also it’s own game which is unusual for this. Most collection games only allow you to play games. Who ever heard of one with that plus being it’s own game. Isn’t that confusing Sega. It’s better than some but okay overall.

Carmageddon 64. The worst Nintendo 64 game. Greetings from England.

  • November 19, 2013 at 3:04 pm

I would like to see Jaelco’s City Connection reviewed. It stuck in my mind as we rented it while we were at my grandparent’s house and it was absolutely terrible but we kept playing it because as you say, it was our whole weekend and we didn’t have anything else to do. 🙂

Another very frustrating game is Robocop on the NES, and The Rocketeer on NES sucked too.

It would also be neat to see some mor egames on other consoles like the TurboGraphix, 3Do, Saturn, etc.

Thanks for all of your hard work James!

I’d like you to not repeat the mistake of saying LJN makes all those bad games. They didn’t make any of those games. They’re just a publisher. The developers of most of the games you reviewed and passed out as bad LJN games would surprise enough people. Some of them (Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Spider-Man on Gameboy, Nightmare on Elm Street) were made by RARE. Yes, the same Rare from DKC, Killer Instinct, Banjo, etc.

How about a Beavis and Butt-Head game for the Sega Genesis? Maybe Little Nemo in Slumberland for the NES? Why not cap the year with something completely different? A PS1 game. Crow: City of Angels, among the worst reviewed games of it’s era I believe. Plus, it’s an excuse to do some Crow stuff.

  • November 19, 2013 at 6:43 pm

A Dreamcast review would be awesome, Only because it has a few really bad games on it, like seaman (for those of you who haven’t heard of it.. That’s what its actually called, and its voiced by Leonard neemoy
) and some others, I was on the edge of my seat just to see the nerd comment on that game lol

    Three Stooges on the NES

The Grinch on either the PlayStation or Dreamcast
Spiderman and the X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge on SNES

  • November 19, 2013 at 8:15 pm

Okay so there goes my wish list :

_ Raid 2020(NES – Color Dreams) why : Would love to see more “feud” with Color Dreams like the Nerd’s grudge against LJN. And that game is absolutely horrible.

_ Mission : Impossible (NES – Konami) Why : This game is my childhood’s frustration, while most people had Ninja Turtles, I had this, and it’s not any better. The first stage depressed my when I replayed recently.

_ Corvette ZR-1 Challenge (NES – MB) Why : I don’t even get the controls in this game. They tried to make it realistic like you gotta change the gears yourself, but it’s a mess, in order to do so you have to hold A, then release A, quickly press up and then hold A again. Hell in Need For Speed to do this you need only one button.

The Ninja (Master System – Sega) Why : Not horrible, but kinda hard, it needs patience.

Back To The Future II (Master System – Imageworks) Why : Could link to your NES reviews Back To The Future, the game is different than the NES one, extremely hard but only 3 levels…and controls are awkward. Besides your reviewed Back To The Future III on Megadrive/Genesis(which is the same on Master System, just a little slower) the II is the same deal as the III…

Review the Angry Video Game Nerd video game! I had plenty of Nerd rage moments playing it!

  • November 19, 2013 at 9:17 pm

Cliffhanger on NES. Terrible graphics, music sounds like a fart, controls like an ass. One redeeming feature, you get to snowboard down a hill using the corpse of one of the bosses.

Bad Street Brawler.. I think everyone knows about that one.

    Bubsy 3D

Last Action Hero on SNES. No idea why you didn’t do this one. I rented it and couldn’t get past the first stage which featured a background that loops over and over.

Virtuso, Revolution X, Rapjam Volume One, Bebe’s Kids, Captain Novolin…

    Please review:

    Knuckles Chaotix (32x)
    Rocky and Bullwinkle (NES)
    Bubsy (Genesis)

You also don’t do nearly as many Sega reviews as the systems deserve.

I personally would like to see more of the rare systems, like the Jaguar and the 3DO. Your Jaguar review didn’t show nearly enough of the system, though the Jaguar CD video kinda made up for some of that. Please do more of those systems as the Nerd!

Console reviews are some of my favorites because it’s a chance for me to see something in action I won’t ever get to see in person. (Someone mentioned the Apple Pippin. Perfect!) More of those please!

  • November 19, 2013 at 10:17 pm

One game I would love to see you review is Cho Aniki: Bakuretsu Ranto-hen (Super Big Brother: Exploding Brawl.) It’s a Japanese-only release, and I’m sure no one else will ask for you to do it so there’s little chance of it happening, but I gurantee this will be the absolute strangest game you’ve ever reviewed. You won’t have to make inuendos because one of the characters attacks by farting, one is a girl riding a battleship while naked men dance on it, and one is a giant condom. Yup, that’s all real. Best/Worst fighting game ever!

I have been boasting this for a while now, I would like to see an AVGN Board James Cross over where you review board game video games. I would also like to see AVGN tackle Maximum Carnage, I think it would be funny seeing his character but bat shit crazy by playing a GOOD LJN game.

  • November 19, 2013 at 11:11 pm

    Kingdom Hearts 1.5 remix !
    GTA 5
AVGN: Crappy super hero games for ps3 and 360 ei Iron man, thor, superman returns !! that would make a good episode 🙂

  • November 19, 2013 at 11:45 pm

I know you’ve reviewed A LOT of LJN shit, but you should review their video game console. No, I’m serious. You should review the LJN Video Art. I ultimately don’t know how bad it is, but it looks like MS Paint-like console in the same vein as Mario Paint, or Sega’s Art Alive. Except, it came before either of these, all the way back in 1987. My guess: it was the first, and it was LJN, so it was the worst.

Have you heard of the Link to the Past hack Parallel Worlds? This could make an interesting video, but it’d probably be better for a James & Mike Play . You can actually buy a SNES cartridge of this game, but it’s a little pricey, so I’d suggest an emulator.

Stallone games (Other than Rocky, of course)

  • November 20, 2013 at 7:28 am

I think Fantasia for the sega genesis. reasons? Well , it’s a 16-bit Disney game. A BAD 16 bit disney games, WITH MICKEY! yeah, the same mickey that brought us Mickey mania and the illusion games for the genesis. The difference, is that this game AWFUL in every regard except the graphics wich look fine. Is one of these games that looks fine when you see the DEMO in the store in the TV. But once you CONTROL the character everything falls apart. The platforms are apeshit as most enemies, The rules of the game makes no sense, You have to kill certain enemies… To backtrack to get certain items. Some enemies look the same but take more hits to be killed, and sometimes, and like in Castle of illusion, you have to press down to stomp the enemies. But Mickey don’t have a “ass smash” animation like in castle. Then you have to guess if you are actually pressing down or not. And in World of illusion you have to press down once. here, you have to HOLD down. There are warps to previous parts of the game but the game doesn’t tell you where they are, and sometimes you hit them accidentaly and they are not in any place, they are right in the way. there are warps to trap zones, like when you fall in the lake in NES frankenstein game. The Physics are broken beyond belief, Sometimes you stomp on a enemy, sometimes you just get hit. You have magic, that would replace the apple in castle of illusion, but you get so few hits are the enemies are so Strong and fast and unpredictable, there is no real opportunity tu use it. Is one of these games you have to play. Maybe not for exorcize your past but MINE, this game haunted my fucking childhood. And just TRY… TRY to beat it. it’s 20 years, I still have the genesis, I even used Emulation gimmicks to try to beat it, but hell, man, i think, the last level, is my own hell. If there is a way to beat that level. I still don’t get it.

Review Spy Hunter for the NES. The description in the black NES strategy guide made it sound so cool. One day my dad let me pick a game at the toy store, so I picked Spy Hunter. My brothers were mad that I didn’t get Rygar, but I knew Spy Hunter would be better. After 10 minutes of playing, I realized how wrong I was. What a disappointing piece of crap.

    • November 21, 2013 at 5:41 am

many games stunk it up. amagon was one of my worst purchases. i also bought rygar and was angry it wasn’t like the arcade. a friend bought karate champ and was pissed. the list goes on for all of us.

It’s gotta be Karnov. Such a weird NES game – you’re a Russian fire-breathing strongman (who looks more overweight than muscular in his sprite) fighting mermen, gargoyles, genies and dragons. Things happen in the game seemingly at random. Plus it’s got that one-track soundtrack going for it.

    The first Megaman.
True it’s not bad, but it’s very difficult, some of the jumps and obstacles are often unfair, and the fact that you need the magnet beam (hard to find in the first place) to just stand a chance of making it through Iceman’s stage is just absurd. And don’t presume any inexperience, I’ve beaten the game a few times including the other titles on NES (more specifically Megaman 2 [do Quickman last]).

Hello again James I figured to tell you some more bad Sonic games. Obviously it’s one of your biggest requests to date. I felt these last few you must do as well.

    11. Tails Skypatrol oon Sega Game Gear
Although Sonic doesn’t appear in this game. It was one of two games to start Tails. I’m sure most of us heard of Mario is Missing. Well this game is almost as bad. You spent the most of the game flying. It’s one of those don’t rush or wast lifes game. Actually this feels like an weird Ristar. I say this because you have to grab bosses. It’s hard to tell where to go. Can you believe their kept most real names out? It’s true the people behind this didn’t want people to know who. Yet according to a website at least one name is theirs. According to another website one of them regrets making it. WOW so how did this possibly get released? Also a witch is the main villain. I am starting to prefer Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine. At least it’s fun to play than this shit.

    12. Sonic the Fighters on Nintendo Game Cube
I know you haven’t reviewed any Game Cube games. So I’m taking a chance by requesting this. Mike did say before 2006 right. This collection I’m about to tell you came out in 2005. In Sonic Gems Collection an Arcade fighter. Which turned out to be one of it’s worst games. Seriously you could beat it by bashing a button. WOW anyway music is easily the best part. However the games falls on everything else.

    13. Shadow the Hedgehog on Sony PlayStation 2 & Xbox
I am also aware you reviewed more modern games. With the possible expection of Wii games. You haven’t did one in full detail. Although it was clear in Godzilla episode. You really enjoyed the new games. Considering those horrible games I don’t blame you. Anyway here’s another spin off. This time it centers around Sonic’s rival Shadow. You have to play it on all paths. In order to unlock the final part with true ending. Guess what you have to beat it ten times. It has a okay music track but great sound effects. You can play as more characters in single player. However you must be player 2. Although it does have multiplayer. The story itself is a fucking mess. Why does Shadow need guns & vehicles? Most endings are so similar. Honestly thought they barely change em. Again this came out in 2005 which some want this.

i would love to see a review of “Nickelodeon Guts” on Super Nintendo, or a Nickelodeon theme, Rocko, Ren and Stimpy AHH Real Monnsters, ETC. or even as a Lets Play since you and Mike did Double Dare. or Daze Before Christmas, but thats a PAL game i think, or australian, i forget

I think my favorite AVGN episodes are the ones where it looks like it *should* be easy, but for some reason the game is stupidly hard. In that vein, I’d suggest the Lord of the Rings game for SNES. One of my friends was super pumped to play that game for months, and when he finally got it it was so hard and frustrating that he gave up after like a day and refused to ever play it again.

      November 21, 2013 at 11:13 am

I suggested LOTR on SNES too! The music in that game is awesome, but yeah the game is really hard and tedious. I think the Nerd should review it as a tie-in with the next Hobbit movie.

  • November 21, 2013 at 12:56 am

Bebe’s kids on super nintendo. Get Black nerd to request it. haha

    November 21, 2013 at 3:20 am

    My recommendations would be:

Spawn The Eternal-The PS1’s equivalent of Superman 64

The Crow City of Angels-for PS1 and Sega Saturn, an early 3D beatem’ up that was really bad

Barney’s Hide & Seek-A Genesis game that will play itself if you leave it idle.

Cybernoid The Fighting Machine-NES game made by Acclaim LJN’s sister company, but I’m sure you already knew that.

Other games I’d like to see you review for future Halloween episodes are; The Mummy games, Werewolf the last warrior for the NES, and Warlock for the SNES.

If you have time then shitmassy video games: elf bowling, james pond 2 etc or just christmassy video games and include good ones like christmas nights on the sega saturn.

other suggestions: james/mike: anticipation, james/mike:caveman games, heroes of the lance, rocketeer, urban champion

Nerd, please review the WWF wrestling games for the NES. Those are pretty horrible and they’d make a pretty good episode

i can imagine the acting on this episode. james dresses up as hulk hogan and mike as ultimate warrior

I was trying to figure out some kind of Xmas themed games to review, that you haven’t done already. So I came up with Disney, and maybe talk about the Disney Christmas Carol and spin that off to Disney Games. There are some good games but some really bad ones too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Disney_video_games

Lion King, Aladdin, Mickey games, Donald Duck games… You could do quite a few episodes on those. But maybe spin the whole, Christmas/Childhood of the 80’s and all these amazing characters.

I don’t have a specific game, more of an idea/challenge: A review with no cursing. I’d like to show my kids (8 & 10) your work but, for obvious reasons, can’t. Maybe review some ‘kid’ games? Atari has a shitload for starters. I just think it would be funny to hear The Nerd say something like “this game sucks runny puppy poop” or something to taht effect.

My List (in no particular order)

    1) Any Ren and Stimpy game on SNES
    2) Hudson Hawk (NES)
    3) Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (NES)
    4) Tonic Trouble (N64)
    5) Disney’s Aladdin (Genesis)

The two I would put near the top of my “please review” list would probably be Tonic Trouble and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes

    1. Fist of the North Star

    4. A Boy and His Blob
    5. The Rocketeer

    7. Robocop games
    8. The Battle of Olympus

    November 21, 2013 at 10:05 pm

Wizard of Wor. (Okay, it’s a good game, but still)… Super Soccer for the SNES(again not a bad one, but the final boss is almost impossible to defeat. Almost). :)Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES(know you’ve done this, but it wouldn’t hurt to take a second look)!

What else? Track and Field II(not a bad game, but the controls are almost impossible on some events without a Turbo joystick. Hammer Throw in particular. It’s practically impossible to do it right, without a ton of practice. The Nerd would flip out at this one, for sure)!

Wall Street Kid (not a bad game, but a boring one. Then again, it might not meet the Nerd’s standards, and it might not be enough for a full review).

What else? Tomb Raider. Apparently, the Tomb Raider series went downhill since the first game, and most of them are pretty terrible. There’s a lot of water in that well for you. That’s all I’ve got for now. If I think of any more, I’ll let you know.

Please review Sailor Moon for SNES and other video gaming systems. You may have seen the Sailor Moon anime/cartoon series on television (it came out in the 90s, possibly when you were a child). A 20th anniversary, completely new Sailor Moon anime series is coming out in January 2014 so please do the review (mentioned in the first sentence) this Christmas. By the way, Nolstagia Critic reviewed the anime (but of course, I like you better than him no matter what you or he does).

You should review a larger amount of commodore 64 games, i remember i had that when i was very young and some of the games were very memorable, like that one with a guy screaming ” hey taxi ! ” and you need to control the damn thing in space it’s so awesome, I want to see more commodore 64 videos, a lot of worthwhile floppy games on that console that you barely scratched the pandora’s box James 🙂

Commodore 64 was more rad than that californian douche with a power glove, it was the shit, the epic level was even higher than the nes or atari

    • November 23, 2013 at 10:59 am

how about james do a general review of games on the commodore? a system and games review like he has done for so many other consoles. interestingly enough, he hasn’t actually reviewed the NES in terms of what it was capable of, its drawbacks, etc. that could be a nice short and sweet video as there’s only so much to talk about. maybe mike can pick up the slack on that one

Hey Nerd, I haven’t seen you review the Bubsy series. There’s Bubsy 1 (Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind) for the SNES/Genesis, Bubsy 2 for SNES/Genesis/Gameboy, Bubsy in: Fractured Furry Tales for the Atari Jaguar, and last but not least, Bubsy 3D: Furbitten Planet for the Playstation (this one is really bad). I will think of more games later but that series is one I can come up with right now.

At some point, please consider Days Of Thunder on NES. It’s a bad port of a mediocre PC game, licensed from a mediocre movie. It’s ugly as sin, impossible to control, boring as hell, and unforgivingly hard as a coffin nail. And it has that creepy voice synth chip as a bonus.

P.S.: There is also a Game Boy, and Amiga version to lambast.

I’d love to see a review of Final Fantasy for the NES.
I know it’s considered a classic, but the original version is incredibly buggy, tedious, cryptic and overall horrible.
Despite its flaws, the game still has nostalgic value to me though, so it’d be fun to hear what the Nerd thinks about it.

You may not be a huge World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) fanatic, but I am, and I would REALLY enjoy it if you would sooner or later review all the NES and SNES WWF games. They’re all made by LJN and Acclaim. I’d like it if you reviews War Zone and Attitude for N64 as well, and said good things about WrestleMania 2000 and No Mercy (which are deemed the greatest wrestling games ever) for the same system.

    November 25, 2013 at 12:08 am

Maybe a Sailor Moon game on the GameBoy. Not sure which one it is if they have more, but I remember the second level was just cryptic. You know when it’s bad when crying is the special attack.

  • November 25, 2013 at 9:23 am

I also vote for the Dreamcast, because I’ve always heared that it was a pretty good console for it’s time and that it just went under due to horrible marketing. So that would be the info part of the episode.
The fun part could be this: The Nerd plays Seaman for the Dreamcast – but for some reason the episode has to be TV-G (because it’s Christman or sh*t), so he is not allowed to curse. So he has to come up with other ways to express his … strong emotions.

  • HomingMissiles

    November 25, 2013 at 10:30 am

I’ve always thought that Lord of the Rings for the SNES would make a good AVGN episode. Back in the day, all my friends who played it HATED it because the controls were delayed and stiff, the combat system was dreadful, there was no way to ressurrect your fallen partners (who weren’t smart by any means), and – yep – the only saving system available was based on overlong passwords. Frankly, I give the game the benefit of the doubt since we were all impatient kids and I’ve never put much time into it to make a reasonable judgement. But it does look like the kind of game that would piss of the nerd.

I like how Mike was so on-top of that Hydlide request comment haha. Awesome. Mafat Conspiracy and Bayou Billy both on NES, and the Lawnmower Man for SNES.

—I’ve seen a lot of people requesting dreamcast, which is pretty awesome too because I did have a dreamcast and I actually loved it and was pretty upset when it went under. Ooga-Booga was my favorite dreamcast came and I see it’s one neither of you at Cinemassacre have (on your games list) so if you can find it, check that one out and review its SO AWESOME! Just like the 007 game you jsut did for James and Mike Mondays, except multiplayer mode involves throwing coconuts at each other and flying on pteradactyls and bombing coconuts on each other. OOGA BOOGA DREAMCAST!

    November 26, 2013 at 1:33 am

I can only suggest Japanese games far too obscure for the Nerd to actually review.

Action Pachio. It was a given someone was going to ripoff Sonic on the Super Famicom. Imagine is Sonic was a walking pachinko ball, walked slowly and couldn’t jump while rolling? Wouldn’t that be a more fun game?
Actually come to think of it, Jurassic Boy 2 for the NES. By the makers of Little Red Hood. Also like Sonic, but due to the NES’ lack of Blast Processing the levels regularly turn into random garbage.

Relics for the Famicom Disk System. It’s probably an exploration platformer but I got tired of waiting for the game to load data every five steps (not much of an exaggeration).

Super Monkey Adventure for the Famicom. Perhaps not doable due to the language (there’s little text but it’s in Japanese, though I hear it’s still barely helpful). Too bad, from what I’ve seen, Jeckyll & Hyde is a clearly masterpiece compared to this. No indication of where anything on the map is because of the Action 52 type graphics (granted this is an early game but still), yet the programmer still found enough room in the cart memory to talk about what he wanted to do after writing this awful game…

Garfield for the Famicom. Another of those “have fun finding all the invisible power-ups” platformers. And it looks like a 2600 game, despite it was made in 1989, the same year as Ninja Gaiden and Batman.

Utsurun Desu for the Famicom. A “comedic” platformer, if your idea of comedy is something barely playable (a fair amount of text, but from what I recall it’s nothing really needed to play the game).

There’s a few other infamous bad FC games, but they are text-heavy.

  • November 26, 2013 at 2:38 am

Please do a review of Sword Master on NES, I played that game not too long ago and it was extremly annoying and difficult, I hope you know my pain of that game James and I would be really happy if you did a video on it. Thanks, and keep being awesome!

  • November 26, 2013 at 7:50 am

You haven’t done the 3DO system yet right? (Yeah I know not a game). Yeah I wanna see that, already done the other 2 systems in the “lost generation” of consoles.

For games..uuh…maybe Captain Comic by Color Dreams? Bigfoot by Acclaim. Kabuki Quantum fighter? Bio Force Ape and its backstory would make a great nerd episode. All games mentioned for the NES. Think Pooyan would work for the nerd too.. well that’s a few!

  • November 26, 2013 at 7:58 am

    ANY DREAMCAST GAME THATS BAD

  • November 26, 2013 at 5:30 pm

Mr. Rolfe: Please tear that game to shreds.

Review the Virtual Stuntmaster kinda like how you did the Atari 5200 review, review Where’s Waldo on the NES,Jim Hensons Muppet Adventure on the NES, Gilligans Island on the NES, and Sonic 3D blast on Sega.

    • November 27, 2013 at 7:37 pm

I’d say the Muppets franchise is enough material for a whole episode, IMO. It got Atari 2600 releases and everything. “Pigs In Space” had at least two different games – one for the Atari 2600, and another for the Commodore 64.

Oh I almost forgot James you should ask Mike to brought his Game Gear. I’m sure by now you heard of his modded Game Gear. Basically plays like most consoles. Wrath of Black Manta: Eh, that game wasn’t bad I played that game all the time as a kid and actually beat it. The only part that was “cryptic” was trying to figure out how to beat the final boss. Awesome game though the music and everything so nostalgic I’d love to see a review of it.

  • November 27, 2013 at 12:58 pm

My biggest request is 8 Eyes for NES. It isn’t that terrible of a game. The concept is great and the music is very good. The difficulty is insane though. I always had a hell of a time getting to the boss and when I did, the bosses were always really hard. Controlling that damn falcon on single player mode is a pain in the ass! You’re stuck with that same annoying flight pattern forever and don’t have much freedom to move. The fact that this game is a lot like Castlevania in certain ways has its benefits as a nerd episode too.

I would also like to see a Kid Nikki (NES) review too.

I don’t agree with the Final Fantasy Mystic Quest hate. It was intended for beginners.
Now if there’s a 16-bit RPG deserving of nerd-rage it’s 7th Saga. The graphics were kind of bland, but it had some good music. And the fact it had multiple characters with a bit of branching plot was a nice touch at the time.
But THE FLAW is enough to seal it. Enix completely BROKE the difficulty balance from the Japanese version. You have to seriously grind to not be at the mercy of enemies who can DESTROY you whenever they want. And “I’ve returned from the Dark World and have become Red-Pison.” needs to be know! 😀

It’s a pretty obscure one, but I’ve seen it on your collection page. Blades of Vengeance was a game I found pretty interesting when I was younger and it’d be neat to see your take on it. Or maybe do a special on interesting obscure games?

  • November 29, 2013 at 12:11 am

To be honest, I really would like to see a follow-up of Metal Gear where you review the horrendous American made sequel Metal Gear 2:snake’s revenge!! It throws all common sense out the window and is just a piece of crap game, it is the sole reason why Hideo Kojima made a sequel!!!

    • Mike E

      November 29, 2013 at 1:39 pm

I thought Kojima himself liked Snake’s Revenge, even though he didn’t make it.
It’s said it’s the NES port of the original he considers a garbage game. (though it was speculated it could’ve been better if Konami had developed it using one of their more advanced Famicom mapper chips. Though if Konami did that, it probably wouldn’t have gotten released in the west because NES developers had to use Nintendo mappers, like how Contra had to lose a little bit of its visual effects.)

Time Lord for me was a really bad game. I mean with a name like that who wouldn’t associate that with Doctor Who? I picked it up and was very let down. Sure, thinking it was a Doctor Who game was a little far fetched for the time, but good grief it was horrendous.
Also Demon Sword is a good candidate, its one of those, “up is jump games”.

Please review Captain Novolin for the SNES. It’s a really bad game about a diabetic superhero.

    November 29, 2013 at 9:58 pm

I’d actually like to see the Nerd do a full Barbie episode.
I remember it was kind of a big thing as some of the first games marketed specifically for girls, only for girls to find out they sucked just as much as games made “for boys”.
Then again, James might need a she-nerd guest reviewer to do it right.

  • November 30, 2013 at 12:46 am

    CASTLEVANIA BLOOD MOON
Mike made a video on it, but I’d like to see you talk about it since you are THE Castlevania guy.
No disrespect to Mike, I love him too.

  • November 30, 2013 at 3:23 am

I can think of a few. One of which is Sonic The Hedgehog 2006. I know it’s not “vintage” but it needs to be ripped to shreds.

How about some of the Dragon Ball games? There’s more than a few bad ones out there.

  • November 30, 2013 at 9:24 am

maybe you can do Video Game movie’s. (except Mario bros. Because you did that already)

I’d love to see the Nerd rip Awesome Possum for the Sega Genesis a new one. Bubsy 3D would make a great review as well.

  • December 1, 2013 at 3:45 pm

In addition to my WWF request, I have another REALLY shitty game for him to review:

Remember when the Nostalgia Critic reviewed the movie Space Jam? Well believe it or not, there’s a video game based off of it! For PlayStation, Saturn, and DOS. And guess what? It was made by ACCLAIM! In the same vein of making Batman Forever (SNES/Genesis) a ripoff of Mortal Kombat, they now make Space Jam a ripoff of the arcade classic NBA JAM! I’ve played it and I know. I’m sure the Nerd could make this review a legend, maybe even tie it in with the Critic’s movie review…

How about the Disney movie games for the Sega Genesis and the SNES. A lot of kids I knew had at least one. They were perfect Christmas/Birthday gifts for a lot of younger kids because parents recognized the titles.

  • December 2, 2013 at 7:53 pm

Gargoyles Quest Trilogy. Consists of Gargoyles Quest(GB) Gargoyles Quest II(NES) and Demons Crest(SNES). These games are under appreciated and overlooked by many, in fact, most have never even heard of these games.
If your looking for a terrible game, Abadox for NES would be a good Nerd video. The game was published by Milton Bradley, a fucking board game company.
Keep up the excellent work, look forward watching anything new. and happy holidays to everyone at Cinemassacre.

I guess I’m kind of late to the ballgame, but I don’t comment often enough as it is.

One thing I’ve been wondering for a while now is if the nerd would ever review the first Home Alone game. He reviewed the other one all the way back in the 2007 Christmas special and even mentioned the first game, saying it was terrible. I thought for sure a review was coming at one point or another.

Another idea is A Link to the Past. I know the nerd does bad games mostly but since you’ve said it’s your favorite game of all time, I think it deserves an episode dedicated to it. I’m sure you’d find a way to make it awesome and watchable like you always do.

  • imposter

    December 4, 2013 at 12:58 pm

Adventures of Bayou Billy I think would have to be a really long episode (I can see the double dragon references now lol)

Although Time Lord I think would make a great short. It’s not a long game, but it’s full of that hidden cryptic crap that everyone hates, hard bosses (talking about you wild west boss), and you have to play as fast as you can or you lose, or get a bad ending, I don’t remember. All I remember is the last part of the game was very difficult, and after many many tries, I beat it, and vowed never to look at it again with the consequence of shoving ice picks in my eyes.

  • December 4, 2013 at 1:40 pm

Contra series! It would be great if you could do a nerd episode on the Contra series, like you did with Castlevania. I can’t recall the Nerd giving much attention to Contra so it is surely overdue!

  • December 4, 2013 at 4:47 pm

Adventure! Either the original Colossal Cave or the Atari one. Seeing how well you can do text adventure games, I believe you’d better do the Atari one though. It has some action and you won’t have to bother knowing the syntax.

  • December 4, 2013 at 5:41 pm

Rugrats Scavenger’s Hunt for Nintendo 64 (that shit fucked my life T-T), Harry Potter 2 and 3 for GBC (unnoficial), the Mask for SNES (not really bad, putty pretty odd), Sonic 4 (unnoficial) for SNES, Defender of the Crown (whole franchise, specially the NES one), Hong Kong 97 (SNES) and the very first Bomberman for NES (pretty sad, really, but this great kodomo Scy-Fy franchise started with a pretty bad game). FUCK THOSE SHITS, NERD!!!

I’d very much like to see you do a review of the Mattel Hyperscan system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HyperScan
I found some cards for the system in an old thrift store shop, and later bought the console off ebay, along with the X-Men fighting game. 30 minutes later, I sold the system and everything with it at a large profit loss, as I wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible. It had the most horrendous loading times, and the play control physically hurt. Anyway, I’d guarantee this system would easily make the list of worst consoles ever. Should make for a good episode of AVGN too should you decide to do so.

  • December 12, 2013 at 4:00 am

you should do a marathon of the remaning ljn games for nes & snes you haven’t talked about yet

I would love to see a wrestling game related episode. Either of AVGN or Mike and James together. There are so many shit biscuits out there on the classic consoles (like WWF WrestleMania for the NES) as well as hidden gems which aged pretty well. Would be great to see your take on that!

Taxi Racer (From the same guys who brought you Big Rigs. They made another game)

  • May 14, 2015 at 5:19 pm

You should play Takeshi’s Challenge for the Ninendo Famicom, preferably play the English ROM. Why? Some people like me consider Takeshi’s Challenge to be the ET of the NES library. Difficult, yet shitty. And also Beat Takeshi (the guy who created Takeshi’s Challenge) is a lot more cruel than Penn and Teller with their Desert Bus game.

I remember this being a pretty good game. It was like a cartoon-ish rip off of Zelda. the graphics were good, the audio was good, it had humor, the game play wasn’t bad, there was some level variety (walking/climbing/swimming/mined arts/etc) and it had some replay value..
    Thanks Logtec!

    Greetings from England!
Only just signed up to your site, should have done so years ago! :/

Would be great to see a review of Dr.Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine on Sega Megadrive (Genesis). Myself and friends had so many hours of fun on that game along with its killer soundtrack!

Also a more obscure one I think,”Gods”. It was developed in 1991 by The Bitmap Brothers for MS-DOS, Sega Genesis and SNES.
I only ever had the MS-DOS version and never knew it was made for Sega and Nintendo until about the early 00s. Was a beautiful looking game and extremely underrated, I think you would also agree! 😀

Keep up the great entertainment and looking forward to more of all you guys 😀
    Alex 😉
