Dude, stuff from Tyr or Born Again I would be completely lost. Actually any Martin/Gillan/Hughes, I would be lost with. For the idea of the game, you did pretty damn well though. This is a little more difficult than the original “Name That Tune” though. Perhaps in the future you can get these down to more of a science and bet on how many chords you can guess from the initial clip.
There’s a DVD game called Riff That is kind of an open ended rock and metal trivia game. i know its some where around my house if i can find it ill send it to you. But that is one worth trying. most trivia games like it are DVD games
There is a Heavy Metal Trivia board game called “Metal Mental Meltdown”. It’s set up a bit like trivial pursuit, but the cards are ranked by difficulty rather than category (and you play on a giant pentagram). The hard questions tend towards the very obscure (“Who played session guitar on ____ or Who produced ______ album or Name five drummers of ______. You’re supposed to play to 666 points, but playing it a few times, it seems like that could take days or weeks.
It’s likely way out of print, but I do have a copy. If you guys ever end up in the Pittsburgh area, I can bust it out and we can throw down…
Nice dude! I didn’t know you were THAT much of a fan of Sabbath! I was guessing them right along with you; I couldn’t get the ones from Cross Purposes/Forbidden either…
SWEET! .Check this out James, this was a heavy metalboard game made back in 1999. Its pretty rare with only 2500 copies made. I will aquire this board game someday. I heard alot about it since back in the days. If you ever aquire it on ebay would you please make a video for it.http://heavymetaladdiction.com/2008/01/16/cd-scavenger-hunt-metal-mental-meltdown-heavy-metal-trivia-board-game/ Btw you gotta do Slayer Maiden,OZZY and DIO next ,thad be KIller!! Metal till you die!!
Black Sabbath rules! Ozzy and Dio eras are classic, but I feel as though the Tony Martin era doesn’t get as much love as it deserves. The Eternal idol is an amazing album and has really heavy-ass songs like The Shining, Glory Ride, and Lost Forever. It’s also the most 80′s sounding album Sabbath ever did. Good shit!
I love Ozzy-era Black Sabbath to death. It’s got so much character . . . you just blip that old Sabbath, and immediately, you know it. Something heavy and mystical about it that goes way beyond lyrics. I don’t really know what the later stuff (beyond DIO, which I like) even sounds like . . . makes me curious. I doubt they’re as great as the old ones, but maybe I’ll find some aural treasure if I take the time to dig.
Weirdly, the ad that played before the video featured Deep Purple’s Highway Star (both a crappy pop version and Glenn Hughes’ awesome version). Great vid, guys! I only recognized a few of them
The classic rock station where I live actually has a contest that they started a few months ago called “Every Second Counts”, where they play the first second of a song and people have to call in to guess the song and win money. Every time the song is guessed incorrectly, the prize money increases.
Great job James! I’m a HUGE Dio Sabbath fan and you did great with the songs Ronnie did with him. I like to see you do album reviews, I’d like to hear your opinions on some classic stuff. Next time you play this game you should really challenge your mind and try someone like King Diamond.
Epic! this was fun, I love Black Sabbath, Master of Reality being my favorite album and After Forever being my favorite song by Ozzy Sabbath (Heaven and Hell by Dio Sabbath). Man these were tough, I only got the obvious ones. You should do Dio, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, and so on. This was a awesome video, Good Job guys!!!!
Dear Mike Mattei and James Rolfe I am so liking your reviews especially the AVGN and Mikes Game Glitches Please keep up the good work —> Your freind/ fan jcourtney
James, you asked for a Metal trivia book. Pick up The Encyclopedia of Heavy Metal by Daniel Bukszpan. EXCELLENT book. It goes for something like $20 on Amazon.

Nice job! Those clips were pretty darn miniscule!
You gotta do AC/DC next. I’d probably ace it, as I’ve listened to every album (including rare tracks & demos) ’till they burned a hole in my brain…

The correct pronunciation of Ryu is the way you first pronounced it, James. However, in Japanese the R is always soft, like in “i.rate”.
