Gaiden (“Guy-den”) is a Japanese word meaning “side story” or “spin-off”.
Ryuu (“dragon”) may sound like “Ruu” when natives say it, because the ‘R’ and ‘Y’ are kind of meshed together, making it somewhat difficult to differentiate from a plain ‘R’ sound. Most foreigners just say, “Ree-YOO”.

Also, I don’t know if anyone said anything about this, but the plural of the word “genesis” is “geneses”. For the Sega system, it’s actually “Genesises”, because it’s technically wrong to change part of the name, even when you pluralize it. I just say “Genesis systems”, though, because of how stupid “Genesises” sounds.

Im surprised you guys wasnt familar with the lost levels although this is the first time id seen it on the nes. For a hard game especially that goes up to D-4 you would think it would let you stay on the level you die on. For the Castle maze that you struggled with you have to stay on the bottom to pass it.

I wonder if that had anything to do with the actual naming of Liu Kang by the Mortal Kombat developers lol

I’m pretty sure the correct way to pronounce Ryu’s name according to Japanese pronounciation is Liu like in Liu Kang lol.

They spell with R’s when they translate to english. However, when I hear them speak I am pretty sure they pronounce with a L sound or at least a combination of a L and R sound. It might be based on what part of Japan they are from but most of what I hear sound like a L sound.
