These videos have become so conflicting to watch. I love the fun spin on playing board games, I love the way Mike cheats and the back and forth between Mike and James that happens because of it. But I hate Bootsy. He’s not funny, his songs range from mediocre to terrible, and the jokes about his persona just keep getting worse and worse.

kind of a silly episode. but the ending was how some board games ended when I was younger. one of the kids would get upset and go home because he lost or didn’t think it was fair.
and the bad luck bootsy guy was more of a wierdo then funny. at least he just cuddled up with the shark rather than ya… the dolphin thing was a bit wierd. haha

Finally, Board James returns! Great episode, the scene after the credits was really good, especially the hook.
This may just be a coincidence, but are the characters of board james (Mike, Bad Luck Bootsy, and James) supposed to be adults who act like a group of kids playing a game? You got the cheater (mike), the creepy kid who wants to play, but no one else wants him to, but he gets to play anyways (Bootsy), and the kid who gets angry at everyone (James). The part where Mike and James started talking about the rumors they heard about Bootsy really sounded like kids who would talk about ridiculous gossip on some other kid.

I’m torn. The character of Bad Luck Bootsy is so well realized, so well acted and written, but since he arrived the other characters don’t have as much to do. Plus the episodes are too skit-heavy. In the AVGN episodes the skit is usually inspired by the game, and the game review comes first. In Board James, they seem to focus not on good or bad games but merely the games with the simplest mechanics so they don’t have to spend time explaining them and can spend the most time on the skit. The games are incidental to the story. These three characters could be sitting around the table having dinner and the episode would be exactly the same. Which wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing, but I do miss the more fully realized game reviews of the early episodes.

Why can’t Board James be a combo of character skits and explanation of the game? Personally, I love the Board James vids as much as the AVGN ones.
BTW, if the next DVD release is kind of thin due to the lack of AVGN episodes this year, why not fill in the space with Board James videos? I’d definitely buy it and I’m sure I’m not alone.

I hope you don’t. I really like this series, and the characters. If you want to make it a little more complex, that’s fine, have episodes where Bootsy isn’t in them. That way, you can focus on more difficult games. More people than not like the episodes with Bootsy, but as fanboyfilms pointed out, it might not be a bad thing if you went back to “basics” every now and then.

I checked the printed instructions (found online) and there are no rules preventing the player in the lead from holding on to the dice. Worse, there are two variations of the rules; in the main one, only the oldest player rolls. What a broken game. All of the creative effort went into the ad campaign, and the actual product was made as an afterthought.

I think the fact that theres only 61 comments so far and only a handful suggest getting rid of Bootsy is an indication that he’s not really nearly as bad as the dissenters think. I’m personally not a huge fan, but I don’t think he detracts from the series in any way by his addition. Maybe though, there does kind of need to be a ‘motherfucker’ role filled since we’ve now seen Mike a lot more and know he’s not really that bad
Bootsy is currently doing this, so there is that.

I love Bootsy, and his songs. I know it’s simple, but are you ever going to do Chutes and Ladders? That’s the first time I ever said, “Fuck!” I was playing with my dad and kicking his ass so badly, and then I rolled and landed on the giant slide at the top that sends you all the way back down to the bottom. OMG! I had this board game when I was a kid. it’s been a very long time since I have ever laid eyes on this item without looking at the old nostalgic commercial for it. there was also a 2nd product called shark bowling. awesome job as always james , and thank you for exploring something I also enjoyed when I was a kid. maybe sometime in the distant future you would look into other nostalgic toys like the Talkboy or toys based on cartoon series like Mighty Max or Street Sharks.

This episode was simply great. You have really taken it to a new level. The song, the characters, the jokes, the artwork in the beginning, it was the best Board James so far.
However I don’t agree with the commentators who want to get rid of Bootsy. Please keep him. I think his role is very important. It will be interesting to see how much of him that remains, after all injuries, after a couple of years.

Loved the ranting at the end. One of the best James moments ever! I also think that it really showcased that James can actually act pretty dang well.
I hate to bring a criticism to the table, but I do want to address the volume fluctuation during the rant. I know that James was just trying to level the audio so that he wouldn’t kill off his headphone using viewers, but it was a bit overkill this time. The last yell is way to quiet. It just sort of took me out of what I’ll say absolutely one of the best James rants in a while.
Other than that, this was a fantastic episode. I love Board James!

I love how you seem to review the exact games I also owned as a kid.
This fucker was pretty boring and simplistic as a game, but watching your videos makes me want to bust it out anyway. I love that atmosphere you create that makes you want to find your nerdiest, most childlike friend, have both of you put on your jammies and play one of these 3D animatronic board games.
I think people who hate Bootsy don’t really get what he’s there for. Remember how when you were a kid you usually played board games with your best friend, and somehow, especially at kid parties, there’d always be some complete dicklord kid around who joins in, has no regard for the rules of the game, and fucks it all up? That’s who Bootsy’s supposed to be.

that was the worst board james episode I’ve seen so far and I think I’ve seen them all. The “comedy” felt so forced and the acting was really bad… maybe you should reshoot more often.
It seems like you all had your fun with this episode, but it takes away from the “comedy” when you always see the actors trying not to laugh, but like I mentioned before there wasn’t much to take away to begin with.

I don’t know why the reaction to Bootsy is so mixed. I think he’s hilarious. His songs are great as well (I love the Donut Disaster song). I think many people are looking for more of a “review” of board games. Maybe its because the actual board game takes a back seat to the character interaction.
I personally like the dynamic of the three of you: James is the guy who takes the games seriously. Mike is the Mother-fucking cheater, and Bootsy is the creepy kid you can’t stand. Who can’t relate to that.
Anyway, I hope we see some more Board James (and Bootsy) in the near future.

Pay no attention to the criticism being flung at this episode. Anyone that doesn’t like this, just doesn’t get it.
This episode of board james has great editing, writing, comedic timing and music. This is what consistently puts cinemassacre productions ahead of other online series. The comedic timing when their talking about the fish, and then it shows the picture of the fish, is hilarious.
Also, bad luck Bootsy is damn hilarious. The chemistry between the three characters in board james is comedic genius, keep at it.
As usual those who don’t like the episode are the ones commenting, and those who do are staying silent. It’s like the people who watch avgn and get pan it for not being angry enough. Fools.

The title card was one of the best yet, killed myself laughing. Once again, Mike and James did a great job, but I don’t really like Bootsy. It was better seeing James try and play against the hilariously cheap Mike, the old episodes were great. I feel that Bootsy adds nothing, and just isn’t funny. But once again, nice job.

I can understand why some didnt love it but I think it’s because they watch it with a closed mind.
Things that I loved on this one,
The wacky faces every now and then,
the song was good,
the Q-Bert cap LOL
the part where Bootsy is trying to seduce the shark with Wine XD
and the mega ranting at the end.
I do have to say that while you sometimes need more players on this series, but Bootsy is so akward that it makes us feel uneasy or bad. If this is your goal, I’m pretty sure it is, then you guys succeed!
