Anyone know the name of the AVGN theme used at the beginning of this vid? I must know!
November 17, 2012 at 6:23 pm

November 17, 2012 at 6:32 pm
Thanks for putting this out James, Mike, et al… great memories from a great night! Thank you Mrs. Nerd for putting this together! James, I have to say, you are a very classy guy. You handled mc’ing and the Q&A expertly. My friend (whom I met that night) and I both agreed that you are very gracious and good at fielding questions and speaking to the fans. Great job. I’m glad that somehow, while stumbling through the internet in 2008 I was introduced to your work.
November 17, 2012 at 6:35 pm
olio, eternal thanks.
November 17, 2012 at 6:49 pm
Congratulations, James! Been a fan for a few years, now. Though, I’ve never had much to say, but I had to register just to tell you that I’m really happy for you and your waife
November 17, 2012 at 6:58 pm
My favorite part of the whole event was watching R.O.B. the Robot on the big screen. The NES footage looked fucking awesome.
November 17, 2012 at 7:06 pm
Cool Indiana Jones jacket, Nerd!
November 17, 2012 at 7:08 pm
Conglaturation for you and your wife on the announcement of your baby, James. I’m really happy for the both of you, and I cannot wait to see how the movie turns out and whatever content you throw our way in the meantime.
Keep up the great work man
November 17, 2012 at 7:10 pm
I like how AVGN occasionally browses the shelves in his ealier episodes and comes accross the game, but passes it by.
November 17, 2012 at 7:13 pm
This was great, and it’s wonderful that you’ll be having a kid soon. It was sort of touching seeing that young boy there telling you that you inspired his future career. What a wonderful legacy you’ll lead.
November 17, 2012 at 7:14 pm
This looks awesome – thank you for sharing this and thanks to MF Mike for doing the filming.
And congrats on the little Nerd to come! If its a boy, please name him after one of the four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
November 17, 2012 at 7:18 pm
Im a huge fan of you James, keep do what your doing! From Sweden
November 17, 2012 at 7:31 pm
Congratulations to you and Mrs nerd. Totally looking forward to the movie, its as exciting for us fans as it is for you i’m sure. If you get time please do the jaguar cd review. It’ll be awesome.
November 17, 2012 at 7:35 pm
Who edited this video? I don;t understand why they cut out the part where the audience saw the trailer. I wanted to see their reaction to it.
November 17, 2012 at 7:38 pm
Deduction says that to adapt a game is to adapt a comic book. As there are so many issues and issues with adapting the strict letter, comics must be condensed to a basic timeline of important events for adaptation. Same with a video game or game.
Remove. The. Game. That’s the point. It’s a reversal of making a game out of a film or comic. You added game elements to it, now just take them away for better narration. Basic imagination elements can be born in any format, despite the trickery of both the letter and the format (E.G. Mario is within the ranks of more obscure characters like Popeye whereas the SMB manual’s objective overview is nice enough to be decent level children’s fantasy book). Hell, just look at the origination of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the original intent behind Watchmen. Doesn’t match our perception today does it. And that was simply because of the final’s execution.
A game isn’t meant to be a literary format, but neither is a toy. Instead, they both have back story. Toys’ back stories are for role play or to even add depth and interest to the line up of said characters. In addition to this, VG back story is elemental to it’s core object/goals (E.G. Clue or King’s Quest Series and other Adventure games). Story in games do not simply translate into cut-scenes with dialog. Simply, as technology progressed, the less and less we needed the manual for more complex games, as our objectives were made clear through these scenes and more.
Still, even today is the format just a filter over what back story or imagination you’ve created, even making such imagination supplementary to one point and easier to separate from the letter. There are waves of obstacles and many task oriented game elements to filter out. Outside of this, cut-scenes can have the same flaws seen in many comics’ utmost verbatim form of existence, so you only want to adapt the condensed form and intent of a cut scene as well. That way, it can be optimized or even intentionally different enough for fans whilst not
betraying anything important to the story or its progression.
Again, this compares to adapting a comic book.
As seen, games still have as much a reason to be adapted directly* for new people and the fan as any other format, as like with comics being HUGELY condensed into a simple package, it will never be a verbatim copy to the point that the player will see no point watching it. It’s more like playing Super Star Wars even after seeing the film. It’s still a new experience.
* I’m not one to buy that you HAVE to make a sequel/interqual/prequel/spin-off to get it right. It’s actually a bigger demand than a direct adaptation with what narration it leaves out. We really don’t need anything new from a theatrical film, as this can be given already as a “direct to” release or simply a game itself. It’s still an option to do something new, but if you plan to tell everyone narrative elements found also in Silent Hill 1, for instance, go with Silent Hill 1! If you don’t, you’ll spoil a chance at orderly narrating for simply a quick experience. And what will be added? A yawn! If it’s to fit everyone, then it’s just going to be a minor update or simply invention, like FFX2 and FF: Spirits Within was. It gives us details on elements a game can easily narrate and just leaves a high budget explanation.
It’s not fair towards the truth of the predicament, either. Botching the adaptation shouldn’t have anything to do with having a few story tracks being already laid down by a simple back story. It’s not just about fandom people, but to naturalize the style of adaptation so that it’s met the same way a comic adaptation is. THAT’S when it’s going to be done right for everyone! Only then can they make newer stories, as then it’s not just a lie that the other can’t be done or a huger fandom demand.
November 17, 2012 at 7:50 pm
I get a great feeling inside when I watch this and I am so happy for Rolfe that he is able to be doing what he loves! Can’t wait to see the AVGN movie and I would also love to see him being able to do other feature length movies!
I was there! I’m the one with the AVGN hoody! Best weekend ever.
November 17, 2012 at 7:55 pm
November 17, 2012 at 8:34 pm
Wait, nerds have sex?! What the fuck! Congratulations to you both!
I really hope too see the movie one day, i can’t wait!
I hope you will do the nerd episodes for a long time because it’s very fun to watch them, i view like 3 episodes a week and still liking them.
I find it terrible that the nostalgic critic is stopping with his reviews but really looking forward too his new stuff. Would be a nice too see him popping up as a cameo in the movie!
Good luck with creating awesomeness!
From the Netherlands with love!
November 17, 2012 at 8:52 pm
OMG Congradutions on the great news, You two are going to be great parents (Just wait a few years before showing your work to your future child though)

November 17, 2012 at 9:15 pm
Congrats to James & Mrs. Nerd!! Great news about the little nerd on the way! So happy for you both.
Any plans for another event like this? I’d definitely make plans to attend.
November 17, 2012 at 9:35 pm
Congrats James on all your success.
I had a great time at the premier. I was able to reunite with an old friend, who is also a fan, and visit the historic colonial. I had to resist the urge to run out the door screaming. It was cute how you had to ask Mrs. Nerd If it was cool. I know how that is man good stuff. I had some questions to ask, but by the time i got up to you in line i felt like Ralph in a Christmas Story asking Santa for a Nice football and tinker toys. Anyway I’ll display my cart signed by James, mike, and kyle with pride & Look forward to More content from Cinemassacre.
November 17, 2012 at 9:39 pm
Blue Hole Water!
DON’T DRINK IT!!!
The moss that grows around the blue hole releases an anti freeze into the water to stop it from freezing. This acts like a deadly neurotoxin. The reason why the blue hole used to kill people swimming in it is because they don’t realize they’ve stopped breathing.
November 17, 2012 at 10:06 pm
Lol, the last question asked by the audience was my dad. xDD
November 17, 2012 at 10:35 pm
Congratulations, man ! I’m sure you’re gonna be an awesome dad. The kind of father that loves monsters as much as every kid.
I wish you all the best, for you and your future family !
November 17, 2012 at 10:36 pm
James, I just need to say something.
I’ve followed you ever since you posted your BTTF episode. I’ve watched every Nerd episode, every Board James episode, every Bullshit episode, I watched your movie reviews, top tens, trivia, and the movies you’ve made under “favorites”. I haven’t been a fan of every single video you’ve done, but I’ve persevered and never given up on you because I have seen you do great things time and time again, and you’re one of the only great artists in this day and age that isn’t a douche. I almost feel a personal connection to you. Basically, I’ve been a huge fan of yours for several years.
And now that you’re going to have a baby? I’m extremely worried. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for you. I’m proud to see you’ve finally made a feature film and are releasing it as well as starting a family. But that’s the thing. The question is: Where does the Nerd go from here? Once you release the movie, are you giving up on episodes? Because obviously once you have a pregnant wife to look after and a baby to care for, you can’t just be yelling “fuck” all the time anymore. You won’t even want to, because further down the line the father inside of you doesn’t want to do anything that might seem offensive. And you certainly won’t have any kind of time to make videos.
I only have 1 question for you James. In the past, I’ve wanted to meet you in person and ask you a bajillion questions, but now I only have 1, because it’s the only thing I care about after hearing you’re starting a family…what’s going to happen to you, your projects, and most importantly your fans?
November 17, 2012 at 10:53 pm
*Gratz * On the Baby MrNerd and MsNerd!!!! Thats awesome news
Mike’s going to be an Uncle: “Uncle MF Mike” That has a nice ring to it.
November 17, 2012 at 10:58 pm
November 17, 2012 at 11:08 pm
Congratulations to the Nerd family! Also, thanks to Mrs. Nerd for helping James with his vision to make videos and share them with the world.
November 17, 2012 at 11:10 pm
Your baby news certainly took me by surprise. Can’t imagine how difficult it may be trying to raise a family and continue working on producing videos, and much less another feature film. (I’m still looking foward to another installment of the Jersey Odysseys series) So, congratulations to you and Mrs. Rolfe.
You probably won’t read this, James, but I’ll say it anyway: your passion for film is infectious, and you yourself are inspirational to others such as myself. I’m 27 years old, and have yet to make my first feature film. I do get discouraged at times, but watching you do what you love inspires me to keep moviing forward, hoping one day I’ll get that chance.
All the best, man.
November 17, 2012 at 11:12 pm
Congrats man! Looking fordward to see the film once it’s available.
November 17, 2012 at 11:42 pm
in case no one else has mentioned this, you need to look into how Louis CK released his last special. It was downloadable, for like 5 dollars, and he skipped selling it to major labels, and made a ton of cash from it.
Sell the AVGN movie as a downloadable purchase, and pocket ALL the cash, and skip the costs of having it put on DVD or Blu Ray ….. Blockbuster is gone for a reason. The future is digital.
November 17, 2012 at 11:51 pm
Hooray for Papa Nerd & Mrs. Nerd — congratulations! Very happy for your news, man.
November 18, 2012 at 12:10 am
Fantastic! I made it into the video! 18:55 you can see me slapping down a copy of ET Hopefully I can make the movie screening.
November 18, 2012 at 12:19 am
holy shit.. best news ever… Congratulations on being a day james
November 18, 2012 at 12:33 am
If you actually watched the trailer, the movie is not near development. The movie is planned (not certain, but planned) to be released during the Summer of 2013.
Remember, they’re not sure about release date, but expected to be during the Summer.
November 18, 2012 at 12:44 am
Why did you cut out the trailer? I was hoping to see it in there, including reactions.
Why did you cut it?
November 18, 2012 at 12:54 am
Congratulations James!!! We are all so happy for you and wish you the best! Your gonna make a great Dad!
November 18, 2012 at 1:03 am
The guy @ 8:19 looked so unhappy at the news of you being a father-to-be. Congratulations, both for the film and the baby!
November 18, 2012 at 1:08 am
Are you gonna post the movie on ur channel?
November 18, 2012 at 1:13 am
i Would Like to Meet the AVGN’ but im Just TOO Poor to do it
Because i Want to ask him if he ever Died in a Church on that Castlevania 2 Game? Because i Know how to Die in a Church on That Game’ its Fuckin Easy as HELL
November 18, 2012 at 1:30 am
Next year is going to be an exciting year the Rolfe family James’ movie and the baby. Fantastic news! Congratulations to you and Mrs. Nerd!
Conglaturation!!! on little nerd.
November 18, 2012 at 1:44 am
@BlazeHeatnix I don’t really agree with the fact that having a kid would completely stop the nerd episodes. Yea, screaming “fuck” all the time could be slightly negative, but I really don’t think that it would be all that bad. This might be a slightly biased example since I am a Juggalo, but both of the guys from ICP have children, and Violent J brought his 5-year old son out on stage on his shoulders and proceeded to perform the song “If I Was a Serial Killer” and several others (which contain plenty of swearing, trust me). What I mean to say is that having kids doesn’t necessarily put a halt on your life forever.
November 18, 2012 at 2:11 am
wow! i can only imagine what James felt when the kid at the end spoke
November 18, 2012 at 2:27 am
Really, I can’t stress enough how great it is that you’re going to be a dad! You are one-hundred percent right that no matter what sex the baby is that you’ll raise it to be a great human being, just like you. Kudos again and I hope you’re enjoying the time before having to take care of a child!
I couldn’t be happier for you!
November 18, 2012 at 2:36 am
Sorry for the double-post but you’ve made me and my girlfriend think about how when we have the financial means to have a child that we’d be even happier and that it motivates us to become greater than the student / minimum wage combo that we are now and to become something greater much like you have elevated yourself… we hope to have a Nerd Jr. of our own one day and while I have to name my first born son George after my father, I think it would be hard to not let his middle names be James in honor of our other favorite person!
My girlfriend hopes to be an internet technician and I would love to become a filmmaker myself, and thanks to Mark Borchardt I know it’s never too late to follow your dream.
November 18, 2012 at 2:40 am
Wow, after googling what “IT” means I realize I am an idiot. It’s not an “internet technician” but ‘Information Technology’.
I am very stupid. >.<
November 18, 2012 at 2:42 am
The Goth couple @ 8:23 obviously “pleased” that you are going to be a dad. Classic, haha.
November 18, 2012 at 3:39 am
Congrats for becoming a dad and for your first big movie release!
November 18, 2012 at 4:13 am
hey congratulations man i remember teaching my lil cousins and little sis about clasic games and movies,it will be fun!
November 18, 2012 at 4:44 am
While I congratulate James on being a dad, I’m concerned that this could mean the end of the Nerd character, because believe me, having a kid is a huge responsibility and time consuming, and it is uncertain if James would have the time to continue working on the Nerd or his other film projects. I can only hope by the time the baby is due, the Nerd Movie will be nearly complete.
November 18, 2012 at 4:58 am
Where’s the fuck is kyle justin? Did he leave your group?
November 18, 2012 at 5:53 am
Congratulations James and April for becoming parents !
Wish you all the happiness in the world !
(oh and yeah the video rocks, the trailer rocks and I can’t wait to see the movie !^^)
November 18, 2012 at 5:57 am
James really seems like a cool guy. Thanks for uploading this it was cool to see the q and a and fan reaction to your trailer.
November 18, 2012 at 6:02 am
Oh and by the way : is Shit Pickle making a cameo in the movie ?
November 18, 2012 at 6:45 am
I don’t know why but watching your videos is just always so touching that I feel kinda happy and sad at the same time. (And this is the greatest compliment I could ever give to someone.)
November 18, 2012 at 6:56 am
Congratulations Mr and MrsNerd, I wish you the best!!!!
November 18, 2012 at 6:59 am
Congrats James and Mrs.Nerd !!!
Soo stoked about the movie gotta say again. Don’t think I’ve had this much anticipation over a movie in a longtime….the trailer really has sort of an old school 80′s feel that I really love.
November 18, 2012 at 7:01 am
Congrats on the movie and the Little Nerd.
I just wanted to say that I’ve been watching your videos for years and I always get a laugh every time you put a new one out and have watched countless movies and played many games upon your recommendation or hatred.
I would definitely love to see your film released in a cinema in Melbourne, Australia. Or better yet, an appearance like this one.
Best of luck with everything in the future!
November 18, 2012 at 8:09 am
Going to be a dad ?? How did THAT happen? I seriously think James should run away… FAR away… this is going to ruin everything.
November 18, 2012 at 8:11 am
Oh, and James was totally weirded out by the freaky kid with the bottle of water at the end…
November 18, 2012 at 9:35 am
Congratulations James! But don’t let this movie break up your marriage like what happened to George Lucas and his wife for Star Wars…
November 18, 2012 at 10:47 am
Conglaturation on having a little nerd :D.
November 18, 2012 at 11:34 am
great news James, good luck with the little nerd

November 18, 2012 at 2:20 pm
That theater is beautiful. Damn is this movie going to be good. Also the end of this video has a little extra swag.
November 18, 2012 at 2:36 pm
Čestitke, James! Congratulations from Croatia!
Congrats on the baby nerd. My wife and I are expecting our second baby towards the end of December. Kids make life awesome.
Also, I hope you all can take the movie on tour. If you all do get to, I would love to see you all come to NC or VA. I actually live in WV, but nothing comes here so I usually have to travel.
November 18, 2012 at 2:44 pm
Congladuration, James on becoming a Dad!
November 18, 2012 at 4:02 pm
Congratulations!!! On the movie & your new born baby that on the way!!!lol the nerd has bocome father!!!!! (Tearz) ()-; Job well done!!!
November 18, 2012 at 4:31 pm
I know this is not connected with this vid at all but…
What happened to Mike’s weekly vids?
I know he was just keeping James’ seat warm while he was away filming, but Mike made some great little pieces of entertainment. I was hoping they would become a regular feature on Cinemassacre.
Come on Mike, give us some more reviews/views of old shitty films, etc.
Make Monday Mikeday.
Oh and congrats on the little un’.
My missus just popped out our 3rd a few months back (no more!), say goodbye to your sleep when it’s born
November 18, 2012 at 4:51 pm
Only 24 days left! Support independent music!
November 18, 2012 at 5:55 pm

November 18, 2012 at 6:48 pm
Oh come on James, are u that self-absorbed that u feel the need to have a child ?? Why are u jeopardizing your career ?? *epic facepalm*
November 18, 2012 at 6:55 pm
I loved this. and yes please tour with this!!!!! It worked for Kevin Smith with Red State. If so please make a Florida date. Thanks, James you’ve inspired many people including me. Thank you man keep at it.

I lost it when he said Plumbers don’t wear ties LOL
November 18, 2012 at 9:53 pm
Congratulations on becoming a Father and making the movie! I’m a new father myself and there is nothing better in the world! As a fan of yours for years now, I am very much looking forward to seeing the movie and your future projects. Thanks for letting us share in your journey as a filmmaker. You’re an inspiration!
November 18, 2012 at 10:08 pm
Damn, I wish I was there, I would really want to ask the question, “How does it all feel to go from little money, with no family, and an unknown future to having plenty of money, a family, and have people all over the world that love your work?”
I mean I probably couldn’t handle it. I’d probably look back and wish things could’ve stayed simple
November 18, 2012 at 10:19 pm
Congrats on the baby! I just found out I’m gonna be a dad soon too! As dumb as it sounds, I think it’s cool that I’m gonna have my kid around the same time you do. You’re kind of an inspiration to me. You are proof that being a gamer isn’t a bad thing and that it certainly isn’t the waste of time/money everyone has always told me it is. Also, I’m still trying to get more games than you. I’m only at 1,102 now, but I’m going to keep collecting.
November 18, 2012 at 11:31 pm
Hmm….finish a film AND a baby on the way in the next 9-months? Dude…best of luck..seriously!!!
Also, I will completely understand this could mean an end to NERD videos in about 9-months. At least for a couple years. Congrats!
November 19, 2012 at 12:50 am
CONGRATS ON THE KID AND WE WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK
November 19, 2012 at 1:10 am

Great news, congrats and great job on the trailer. The movie will be a master piece James!
November 19, 2012 at 2:39 pm
Congrats on the movie and the other news. You’re going to have the most epic home movies.
November 19, 2012 at 6:15 pm
so what if it isnt a boy or a girl?
November 19, 2012 at 6:40 pm
James is now truly a God among nerds: A confirmed sexual encounter with a woman! Congrats James
November 19, 2012 at 6:55 pm
James, I speak for the entire AVGN fanbase when I say: Why are you being so selfish?? Are u that self-absorbed that u feel the need to have a child ?? You have a budding film career, this child will slow everything down, it is a turn in the WRONG direction, bro… This is going to ruin everything!
November 19, 2012 at 8:20 pm
Who does the guitar cover at the beginning? It’s really good. Congrturation James on having a kid!!!
November 19, 2012 at 8:35 pm
And thanks for all the fun!
November 19, 2012 at 8:50 pm
I’m really hoping that the people berating James for having a kid are joking/trolling.
I mean, how dare he take any personal time to breed with his lovely wife and give us future nerdlings? Why, he should be making you videos 24/7!
November 19, 2012 at 9:40 pm
I would kill for “Deadly Danger Dungeon” the movie.
November 20, 2012 at 3:17 am
I for one am looking fwd to the baby Nerd videos!
November 20, 2012 at 9:42 am

If it’s a boy name him Mario. If it’s a girl name her Samus.

I cannot wait for this movie. I am buying it the first moment I can. I can’t believe the production values; they’re like X10 what I expected

All I ask is that you don’t start making stupid fucking baby movies every chance you get; I’ll throw up like you did on that girl in your trailer and I’ll delete you from my favorites faster than you can say “Dr. Spock”. As long as your attention, media-wise, towards this kid doesn’t extend beyond a ‘production baby’ credit ala Pixar, then we’ll be fine. But if you start clogging up your blog with baby pictures featuring the seedling wearing faux Super Mario staches, then I’ll be forced to block you bro. I mean, I know you’ll be proud, but just don’t fucking do it please.
