dude,I found Woody Woodpecker kinda visible in WAR OF THE WORLDS in the branches of the trees when the first Martian cylinder flies over the woods and stuff.

It seems that guy from the convention is no troll. Woody Woodpecker is indeed in the 1953 War of the Worlds.

Was that an AVGN movie tease at the end? Or just an episode I don’t remember.

    • Lukas Sprehn

      November 7, 2013 at 3:34 pm

Yep, it was a tease for the movie. Several scenes in the movie was shot in the same area of the Hyperion sewage treatment facility that Earth vs. the Flying Saucers used as the location of the science laboratory in which the main characters developed the things they needed to fight against the UFOs.

Hey Mike, were you talking to me on blogtv earlier tonight, or do I have a particularly well versed stalker?

  • November 1, 2012 at 12:33 pm

Which part exactly is Woody Woodpecker? Mike and I have both examined the trees and do not see anything. So yes, a picture would be awesome, if anyone has it to prove.

  • Pompkinini

    November 1, 2012 at 12:41 pm

Hey James, can u let me know if Mike was hanging out on blogtv earlier? I think I have a major stalker pretending to be Mike otherwise.

  • November 1, 2012 at 1:29 pm

Ok I can’t find an image, and I tried! However looks like the new collectors edition makes it not only easier to see, but also has some further proof, I’m going to guess this is referencing the interview I noted above:

“On the commentary track of the Special Collector’s DVD Edition of War of the Worlds, Ann Robinson and Gene Berry point out that the cartoon character Woody Woodpecker is seen in a tree top, center screen, when the first Martian meteor-ship crashes through the sky near the beginning of the film. Woody’s creator Walter Lantz and George Pal were close friends. Pal tried to always include the Woody character, out of friendship and good luck, in many of his productions; in Pal’s first feature Destination Moon a Woody Woodpecker short is an integral part in the
    film.”

    Mike/ James,

I think the person that told you that had their movies confused. Woody Woodpecker is seen in “THE TIME MACHINE” 1960. Its is a tribute to Walter Lantz by the director, George Pal. Here is a link to the scene so your Cinemassacre viewers can see it.

Great videos guys. Make more videos, we all love them.

  • Radelta

    November 1, 2012 at 3:00 pm

So if an actress from the movie said woody is there, but you cant accually see him in the film. does that really mean he’s there? to me no

  • November 1, 2012 at 3:43 pm

@Radelta lol hey ok, I agree, it’s not proof, this is just the results of some light research this afternoon. It seems the collectors edition is more clear, heck I haven’t seen this since I was a kid, I’m on the fence too but after this research if I had to bet, I’d bet he’s there. Pal put Woody in many of his films to honor Lantz, the Time Machine one is easy to see.

C’mon James/Mike, get that collectors edition and do a slo-mo-review lol

Hey James, I requested this before, but I’d like to request it again, the trailer for the Evil Dead remake recently hit the web, I was wondering if you and Mike can give your thoughts on it.

  • November 1, 2012 at 6:31 pm

I’ve been trying to find proof of the Woody Woodpecker appearance. I own the first edition DVD and looked at the scene that BlazeHeatnix posted above… it just looks like a bunch of trees. Then I found a quiz on Woody Woodpecker… I chose war of the Worlds:

    5. Which movie featured a cameo of Woody Woodpecker? (14%)
“War Of The Worlds” – WRONG.
“Destination Moon” is the correct answer.

The funny thing is, Time Machine was one of the multiple choice answers and I know for a fact there is a little girl with a Woody doll in it because I just watched proof of it on Youtube.

Actually, I’m sure Woody is probably in those trees where BlazeHeatnix pointed out in the picture, but it’s impossible to tell with my DVD edition.

  • November 1, 2012 at 6:31 pm

Fun just flat out fun. The “Angry Video Game Nerd” movie is gonna be awesome I know it. The Dr. has spoken.

  • RetroQuestion

    November 1, 2012 at 9:49 pm

Supposedly, Woody can be seen in many different George Pal films as some sort of in-joke. Makes me want to re-watch 7 Faces of Dr. Lao.

Are you blind? Plain as day, Woody pops up from behind a branch and hauls out his wood for all to enjoy. Try again.

The center tree at the very top. It looks like Woody’s in camo almost, but you can make out hs white hands, head and body. It is hard to see, but it’s there standing up straight and tall.

  • November 4, 2012 at 11:06 am

It turns out that Walter Lantz (cretor of Woody Woodpecker) was good friends with movie innovator George Pal because Lantz helped Pal get his citizenship papers when he first came to America. A lifetime friendship was started and because of this good deed, Woody Woodpecker makes a cameo appearance in every film in which Pal was involved, so yes there’s a Woody Woodpecker in War of the Worlds.
