People will still be remembering Lugosi long after most modern day actors have gone to the dustbin. Like the vampire he portrayed, Bela is timeless.
In the spirit of the video, for some reason the role of Belloq from Raiders of the Lost Ark popped into my head. Would he have kicked ass there or what?
Two more possibilities for Bela roles. He could have played the doctor who created the puppets in the Puppet Master films. “Pull de strink!”
In return for Martin’s portrayal in Ed Wood Bela would appear as John Koenig in one episode of Space 1999. Landau was too sick for filming, so Bela did him a favor.
to be honest , there are just far too many vampire & zombie flicks that exist in today’s age. the moment in time when I absolutely knew that Hollywood ran out of ideas was when they released a film called Rubber.
that’s why Hollywood needs to find those creative people out there. that’s why I know that creativity and originality isnt dead , it’s just hiding among us and waiting to use their skills to the ultimate test. in all honesty , me and james have a lot in common and we both have common goals but with completely different ideas and from our own different paths. I hope you succeed with the avgn film James , and I hope to succeed with my ultimate epic amerime project as well. stay frosty james , and thanks for keeping cinemassacre alive.
I wish you would review all of the Friday the 13th movies you did all of NIghtmare on Elm street and the Halloween movies. When is Jason getting his turn? HUH? HUH?
Let’s see…Lugosi in other iconic roles…
How about Rasputin in Nicolas and Alexandria and all other Rasputin-ish films?
A great bit of casting…Bela as Scary German Guy from Monster Squad!
As Doctor Zorba in Ben Casey?
As Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof?
Bela as Peter Vincent in Fright Night…role fits as if tailor made!
Lugosi, a face that screams concentration and wisdom, portraying Hercule Poirot! The accent ain’t so off target!
And Lugosi as Ras Al Ghul, who was obviously based on a combo of Bela and Commissioner Dolan from the Spirit.
That wasn’t quite the sort of tribute I was expecting, but it was a good video nonetheless. It kind of reminded me of those unlikeliest battles videos.
Béla Ferenc Dezső Blaskó, you’re a legend and we’ll never forget you.
Some Bela-trivia?
Technically, he’s not from Hungary. When he was born in Lugoj the country was called Austria-Hungary. And now Lugoj is in Romania.
And since James is wearing his beloved Oktoberfest-shirt here: Lugosi’s made his very first appearence in a horror-movie in Germany in 1920,where he lived from 1919-1921.The movie was titled “Der Januskopf” (“The head of Janus”),an unauthorized adaption of Jekyll and Hyde. And the director was? F.W. Murnau, who two years later directed Nosferatu

Bella was awesome!
To this day the only horror actor that’s even come close to filling his shoes would have to be Robert Englund.
