This MM opening is the best. James sounds so satisfied when he says “80′s a thooon !”

    Great video !

What? how’d James spot that Donkey Kong Board game? I have that board game and didn’t notice. Damn your eagle eyes James lol.

Also for killer Dummies, I hope James reviews the Puppet Master series one day…

    October 15, 2012 at 8:58 am

For this one James should have used “word to your dummy” in the intro ;)

And James your life and collection is now not complete without a pacman pacmania drumset ;)

This is the movie that made me hate ventriloquist dummies. I was talking about my problem last week, and I couldn’t remember what movie made me hate them. Thank you, James!

haha the 80′s was such a good decade to be a kid :)

These guys (James and Mike) just spit out quality videos like it’s nothing. They just produce them. Must be so fucking annoying to try to find individual scenes of a couple of seconds just, and do it over and over… unless you have a huge list of everything you might ever want to talk about written down and on what DVD and at what point it is… but that in itself would of course be insane to compile…

That’s strange… when I click on my phone, I see Teen Wolf. But when I click on my browser on my computer, I see Making Contact.

This video is teen wolf on mobile… its making contact here though O.o

  • October 15, 2012 at 12:31 pm

Have not seen this one in like 25 years.

Making Contact. hmmm. I think the 80′s stuff in the room is cool , but I looks like a typical dummy movie that tries to blend kids psychic abilities and other cliche movie genres. I think the previous film you mentioned was the most interesting thus far since I have never heard of it and the plot was unlike any film I have seen from that time period. if you folks want to see better dummy films , you might want to check out the 1978 film Magic that has Anthony Hopkins in it , or the 2002 Adrien Brody film Dummy , or some of the tv episodes of Goosebumps , or just catch Jeff Dunham on tv. personally , I dont like dummy movies. puppets and killer dolls I can enjoy , but not dummy’s. great review James. more monster madness left to come. same nerd time , same nerd channel.

    October 15, 2012 at 1:45 pm

James, you can also say it’s kind of a prequel of Small Soldiers with all the toys getting alive.

  • Clutchkman

    October 15, 2012 at 2:47 pm

Yeah, dummies are cool. Love that the movies you pick are filled with 80′s goodness. Few other decades were proud enough of their kids toys and pop culture to show them off in movies. It was a great time to be a kid! Great review James!!

weird, people say its Teen Wolf on mobile but I checked mine and its still Making Contact (get those two from the X-Fiels quick!)

Phone calls from a dead person? Hmm, that doesn’t sound one bit like the episode of the Twilight Zone where the kid’s dead grandmother is calling him on his toy phone.

I need the internet to make a full length completely Stop Motion Star Wars IV,V,VI using the original figures and playsets from the 70′s and 80′s. (90′s if you have to) It would be a lot of work but so cool.
Also, someone NEEDS to make a Shadows of the Empire adaptation, stop motion, traditional animation, I don’t care just get it done!
    thank you

That room really was amazing and the star wars stuff was awesome. That’s every kids dream right there. Fuck super powers and friends, I’m using my Smurf record player. Kids must’ve picked on the boy because he had so much awesome stuff and he was seriously jealous.

I haven’t waqtched this movie, but I know what you mean when you say background movie, they probably use those to train spyes to notice details and develop photographic memory. I’d love to see a scene in the new Bond movie of him and the other 00s watching Making Contact with deadly serious faces in some super secret underground spy training facility. Allso, the rubic cube which apeared at the end of one of the previous was great, why not bring it back?

    October 15, 2012 at 6:29 pm

I think I saw this movie. Or maybe not, but I remember one where a clown or something was throwing knives from a TV to a kid. Maybe it was IT I dunno.

    October 15, 2012 at 6:29 pm

I own this on VHS and have been waiting for someone to review it. Been a long time since I watched. Always felt it was odd he had the toy phone. He was about 10 or so and the toy phone looked like something for a little kid. Still a wonderfully bad movie and a great review. Thanks James.

    Mr Rolfe,

I really have to thank you. I’ve been a big fan of AVGN, and Monster Madness from a long time. But there… I saw that movie when I was around 8 years old. I watched Star Wars, my first sci-fi/space opera, only a few days before, and it also happens to be the first “fantasyhorror” movie I ever watched ! I have really fond memories of it, and it’s been more than 15 years now that I’ve been trying to find it. In retrospective, that movie just looked so much better in my mind ;)

Anyways, I’ve been asking around for a long time for anybody that knew Making Contact., because it was so far away in my mind that I couldn’t remember the title. Chatting with friends, going like : “Man, don’t you remember a wicked movie with a killer doll, darth vader, and a kid with powers called Joey ?”… And only you found the answer. Thank you so much Mr. Rolfe, thank you for providing even more than entertainment !

Somebody PLEASE tell me, because it’s driving me crazy! What does James say at the beginning after “Yeeeeah”?

“Worthy mummy? “Word your mummy?” “We’re dear, mummy?”

  • NickoHall

    October 15, 2012 at 8:55 pm

    @19Szabolcs91

He says “Word to your Mummy” a play on “word to your mother” like in Ice Ice Baby

    - long distance call
    - It’s a Good Life
    - The Dummy

Started hearing the E.T. soundtrack at 1:00 and was wondering where James was going with it until he mentioned the movies’ similarities. Much appreciated.

    October 17, 2012 at 12:10 pm

Can’t remember where I got this, but the dummy was made with Dr. Eldon Tyrell’s (Blade Runner) likeness in mind.

  • October 17, 2012 at 12:47 pm

    OMFREAKINGOD!!!!

I used to watch this movie when I was a kid. When I used to visit my nan, we would go and rent a film from a place called Rusts and I rented this one multiple times. I’ve tried to explain it to people, but no one has ever heard of it and I could never remember the name. It used to scare the shit out of me as a kid!

Thankyou so much for reviewing it! Im proud to have worn my AVGN T Shirt to the London Eurogamer 2012 expo :D

Hey James. Can you please fix this video on your iPhone/ pad app. It is playing the teen wolf video. So I saw it before it was released today. My computer is down for good so I can’t watch your videos on the Internet and my wife and I are watching monster madness together.
It would be awesome if you could if that. Thank you for everything you do.

funny because in that same Star Trek movie, the scene with the car and young Kirk was invented purely for the Nokia touchscreen shot of product placement. that movie wasnt perfect

The thing in the trash can on your screen shot looked like ET so I thought this would be a an ET horror spoof.

That little brat was spoiled! Who had the Millenium Falcon and the AT-AT?! It’s a wonder Lucas didn’t sue the the pants of the director.

I don’t remember having an E.T. glass. I might have as a kid. But what I do remember is having two Return of the Jedi glasses as a kid.
