James, what have you been punching? I can see your knuckles are red
Anyways, the video was entertaining to watch as always. proves once again how much you know about the horror genre.
I love those trivia videos! They are always very fun to watch! Thank’s for this video and keep the good work! You guys are awesome! (I want to see more trivias with Mike, like that star trek video, lol!)
Another outstanding addition to the Cinemassacre library. Your guys passion for what you do is so inspiring. I truly envy you guys, for being able to do what you love for a living and do it so well.
I’ve watched the original English version of Nosferatu where he’s called Count Orlock! At the time Bram Stoker’s widow refused them the rights for the film so they had to change all the names!
I’ve never seen a version where he’s called Dracula! Must be only in the U.S.
Jeff Rovin also wrote a sequel to Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein titled, “Return of the Wolf Man” and brought together all the Universal Horror movies into one single continuity. Amazing book that brings the stories back to horror and even works in White Zombie.
I love these videos….. ignore the hate. I love how you know all this stuff, it floors me every time I watch one of these. I can tell you what happened in ghostbusters 1 and 2 ….. or quote sci fi films …. but to remember like 12 different black and white dracula movies …. how do you keep it all separate ? … it’s amazing to watch.
really awesome video. James really knows his classic horror movies. Mike are u ever going to do more video game glitches? That was fuckin awesome and i really miss it. And please do more game reviews
These videos are very entertaining to watch. James’ knowledge of classic horror films is astounding, he could probably write an encyclopaedia all on his own. The recent episode about Donald Duck by Mike was also very interesting! Please do more videos like this.
@AllHailBritannia stop telling James what to do.
1. He may not have any ideas. In “the making of an AVGN Episode,” he specifically says if he has no ideas, he leaves it for a while and freshens his mind with other things. Besides, its no surprise that he hasn’t done one in months, growing tired of people going “DO AVGN NAO PLZZZ!” or “AVGN do more videoezzz!” or “James PLZZZZZZZ do another avgn video plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! ”
2. Oh sorry, ‘BOSS’ I didn’t know it was illegal to make other videos besides AVGN. You’re not his boss.
3. if James wants to do a few videos that are like an early “Monster Madness” then he can.
I would hate to have to duel James in a horror trivia contest. My only chance is if there were obscure Italian horror film questions. Love the Godzilla and MechaGodzilla shirt Mike!
Well, James and Mike, Vampyr is actually French-German film, but you were right about a Danish man directing it. Actually, the book is wrong Carl did prepare a translation with different title cards in Danish though
Also, you actually, you pronounce the title Vampyr quite differently in both Danish and German.
The “y” in the word “Jysk” is not a sound that we have in English, unfortunately. It corresponds roughly to the “u with umlaut in German.” Phonetically, it is formed for an English speaker by saying a long “e” (as in the word “eat”) and then, keeping your tongue where it is, puckering your lips.
Carl Theodor Dreyer would be Carl Teodor Draiyer though.
For the question of how the Queen kills Snow White, I said that she hires the woodcutter to do it, and I think that’s actually correct. The apple only put Snow White into a coma. You can’t argue that the woodcutter plan was a failure since both plans were actually failures (Snow White never actually dies in the movie), and you can’t argue that the killer in the first plan was the woodcutter, because then you’d have to argue that the killer in the second plan was Snow White herself.
Hey guys! You have to check out this version of Nosferatu by Kino International – r u t r a c k e r . o r g / f o r u m / v i e w t o p i c . p h p ? t = 1 5 8 0 5 1 2 . It has AWESOME quality of picture, original restorated title cards and soundtrack and a lot of minutes of footage you can’t see in other versions of this movie!
I was wondering, since you two are so into nostalgic things and cartoons, if one of you are planning on doing any videos about Betty Boop. To hear your take on those would be interesting. I think a lot of people that like “today’s” Betty Boop have not seen the classic cartoons of the 30′s. Those were pretty risque for that time as well as now, because of all the racism and such. I was also wondering if either of you own any reel-to-reels containing Ms. Boop.
I love the That Metal Show T-Shirt. Love the show and it is almost like a horror Stump The Trunk. I don’t know if that was on purpose but awesome anyway.
Ah, yeah. I’ve still got “How To Win At Nintendo Games” 2 and 3.
Got them during the elementary school’s book fair (which was also the way I had read some other video game and monster related literature back then). Jeff Rovin was indeed the man, reading those books over and over was so entertaining. I think that his books were the first instance of game reviewing on such a detailed level that I had ever seen at the time, and for some time to come on into the 90s as well, that was reeeally something.
Random thought… I remember looking at the last few pages of the 3rd book, and there were his thoughts on some upcoming game reviews he was going to put in his next book. One of the games being Super Mario Bros. 3, and I recall laughing to myself when I saw how he had spelled the Koopa kids as the “kuppa” kids. I know, that’s silly, but even back then in like 1989 I was a grammar nazi.

I agree with Terrifyer. In some of the more recent videos James looks a lot slimmer.
Don’t work yourself to death, buddy!
September 24, 2012 at 2:17 am
@Nacht Maybe James was tired when this was recorded. He is a busy man.
September 24, 2012 at 2:23 am
Also, all you have to do is search “that metal show” on ebay and it shows up right away. In the US anyways.
