How ironic that the AVGN, who reviews retro games, would sign autographs at a store called “Next Gen”

Every city needs a store like this.

Thanks for coming out James and crew! I had a blast at the night shoot, and we are all really thankful you made some time to sign stuff and talk to us. We’ll be looking forward to the final product :)

I was in line since around 2:30PM, They let “VIP people” cut to the front of the line. The line got cut off infront of me sometime after 4pm everyone behind that line was told to go home..

I’ve been a fan for years and am now I’m dissapointed…

    You Know What’s Bullshit?

Waiting in line for 2 hours hoping to meet AVGN and being one of the last 15 people turned away. Had my Atari 2600 ET game in the original box all ready for his disapproving signature.

Extremely disappointing, but I understand. Making a film on a tight schedule can be a Sisyphean task.

I was hoping to chat with James about his plans for taking the film to market. I work in a boutique law firm that represents high end filmmakers in this area. Maybe next time?

Regardless, James should be thrilled that the line was going around 3 blocks, a promising sign that an audience is indeed out there waiting for his product. If only it were all chicks, if only . . . I know dude, I know.

I got there at 12 and the line took a good hour and a half to move along. Once i got in i was able to get 2 autographs and my pic taken with him. He looked real tired but very happy, and friendly. After meeting him my appreciation for what he does for all his fans went up a level. Thank you James for taking the time of your busy schedule to meet with your fans.

He stayed more than an hour past schedule to try to get everyone, but the line was so long! I got my picture with him and he signed a prop that we were allowed to keep from Monday’s shoot (since I was an extra). Won’t show it to anyone else until the movie is out – no spoilers from this fan!

The line was super long when we got there, and we were actually behind the guy with the “last in line” note. However, they allowed 9 people to go in front of us, simply because they had the VIP pass, despite the fact that we were there first. I thought this was unfair, so I spoke to the two nice ladies who were helping work the event, and they were kind enough to allow us in with the VIPs.

It was so exciting to meet the AVGN! I think I caught him off-guard when I asked him for a hug; I’m sure he doesn’t get that request very often, haha! He signed my shirt and I got a picture with him, as did my brother and my husband.

I felt badly for the people behind us who were not able to get in, who were there before the 4pm cutoff. Perhaps, if there is another signing in the future, let the fans know what the line cutoff time is.

I was actually around 12:30, and didn’t get in until 2:30, the line took forever yes, but it was well worth it when you got inside and had James signing it, I got him to sign TOP GUN and DOOM for the 32X. I couldn’t find X-Men for the NES because I must have misplaced it somewhere, I wanted him to say “Welcome to DIE!” =)

But to those who couldn’t get it, sorry about that, if there is another signing event here in Los Angeles, James, let us the fans know and we’ll support you, and expand your locations.

Have a fun trip on your way back to the East Coast!

Considering it was the fucking nerd, me and my buddy decided to show up around 10am. We were so suprised to see that there were only 2 other people there. By 11am i was starting to get worried because i think there were all but like 6 people there. However, around 1130ish the line got MASSIVE. It was pretty cool meeting the nerd as well as chad from screwattack.com. I’m now the proud owner of my NES i got for christmas with a signature from Chad and the nerd.

The VIP passes were given out to all the extras who were in the movie in case you all were wondering.

Considering how stress he has been this past few weeks, behind schedules and whatnot I’m just grateful he tried to spend a day for his fans.

So thanks to Mr. Rolfe, Mrs. Rolfe (She was walking up and down the line in case you guys didn’t realize it ;D), Next-Gen gamestore and Cinemassacre for making this happen.

    James,

My brother and I met you at the signing in Hollywood. We were both so excited to meet you. You were so humble, which was expected, and surprisingly soft spoken. I don’t know how many female fans you have, but my mother and I are fans for life, so that is at least two :) You are so appreciative of your fans. We talk to you like you are our buddy, and although you don’t even know us, you are very personable. We know how busy you are, and I just want to give a special shout out to Mike for all of the assistance he provides. My mother, brother, and I look forward to the AVGN movie, and countdown to Monster Madness every year. Keep up the good work!

    <3 Hayley

P.S. Have you ever thought of holding a contest for the fans to win the opportunity to spend the day with you and Mike? Or host a party for a select number of fans? I know I am not the only one who would jump at the chance to hang out with you and your friends. Hopefully if you do hold a contest, you don't do it SwordQuest style, because I am not the best gamer. I will tell you one thing though, I will enter regardless! I realize this is a long message. After meeting you in person, I realized why I am such a huge fan of yours. Honestly if you allowed a handful of fans to view the premier of the AVGN movie, if would be a dream come true. Just in case you consider my suggestion, I will definitely keep my eyes open for such an opportunity ;)

I went to this event, and while the line was quite long, it was very fun. I got there at maybe 1:30, and was in line until about 4. The people were fun to talk to, and it was great meeting James in person.
He seemed a bit tired, but he was very kind. I got a hand shake, some extra doodles on a previous autograph I had gotten from donating, and a picture. Was a little disappointed to only have about 30 seconds with him, but I should have gone early if I wanted extra time.

To the people complaining about not getting in, what did you expect getting in line at 2:30 when the signing was from noon to 4? He stayed at least an hour late out of pure kindness, but people were taking way too long in the gamestore.

  • May 17, 2012 at 2:45 pm

Yea I knew the line was going to get ridiculous but thought it would be worse sooner (like people camping). I also called the day before and knew the VIPs would be let in ahead of everyone. I got there at 8:30am and felt pretty awkward being the first in line and the only person in line lol. It was worth it though always wanted to meet James and was able to get my ET, TMNT and NES signed plus a picture! Have to admit I was star stuck and was unable to talk lol … sigh.

Thanks James for coming down and keep up the great work!
