AVGN Movie – Halfway through hell

James / April 22nd, 2012

Just an update. I’m halfway through my Hollywood adventure of making my feature film. Out of 27 planned days, we’ve just nailed 14 of them. (Not counting scenes I have to shoot on the East coast.) I’m looking forward to returning home and making some more quick internet videos. They’re so much easier! I miss my home, but I gotta tackle this beast first! There’s a lot of hard work coming up, wish me luck.

  • April 22, 2012 at 5:10 pm

    Best of luck!
I also wanted to mention that the incredible and marvelous ammount of work you did setting things so Cinemassacre could still get content and be updated isnt going unnoticed.
You and Mike and all the people behind the scenes, like your wife (Great girl! Cooking with olive oil, XD) and extras, put a big smile in my face everytime, or light my heart with joy, or make me feel like home.
I hope your hard work sets an example all over the world guys, you are the greatest of the greatest!

Ever since I’ve started watching what you do, you’ve inspired me to start making videos of my own. I have always been interested in movies and how they work. I just want to personally say Thank you for being down to earth and giving us amazing and free content. I wish that I would be able to meet you one day and meet the man who helped create the man who I am today

I can’t wait to see your movie. I already know it’s going to be awesome. I’m a big fan of your show for a few years now. I also enjoy watching Board James especially Mr. Bucket lol. I love the idea you’re going for in Most Unlikely VS Battles. I think you got plenty of ideas to entertain your fans. If possible please keep uploading more TMNT stuff. I’m a fellow fan of the series.

Seems like only yesterday since I first discovered AVGN (it was when the Dragon’s Lair video premiered I believe) and yet it is feels so long as well!! James, you and Cinemassacre.com have been a major part of my life growing up, always there as a constant source of creative inspiration. You deserve your success 110%. Good luck with the rest of the film!

Glad to hear the movie is coming along. I hope you can get it in theaters, or even indie theaters. I know of a good theater in my town that I’d love to be able to watch it at. I was going to suggest to them that they try and get your movie played there but haven’t done so yet seeing as how it’s still in production. I’m not quite sure how that kind of thing happens with getting a movie played in theaters. But I would still love to see it here if possible.

Good luck with the success of the movie James. I will certainly get the movie on DVD or Blu-ray when it comes out, i’ve been watching your videos since 2008 and i cannot believe that four years later we are seeing a feature length Angry video game nerd movie… I’m excited to see it and curious for what the future of Cinemassacre will be.

You may not know me personally, but after following your work through the years James, and now with this intense journey that is the AVGN movie, I would say many of your fans could just as easily be described as friends.
You have a lot of people getting up, getting kids ready for school, going to work, but still in your court and thinking about ya man, keep it up, don’t let petty shit get you down, and keep your eye on the ball!

  • rydamusprime

    April 23, 2012 at 7:35 am

the first video you should make is your own shitty bootlegged version of your movie, using the rumors on IMDb and then when your finished it, play it and use a camcorder to copy it from the monitor/TV at a terrible angle and washed out color… nothing like bootlegging your own movie

Good luck James. I know that homesick feeling myself. When I was in a band we went out to L.A. to cut our first and only LP; that was back in 2007 by the way. That entire time I missed home badly but I knew what had to be done. Just hang in there and you’ll be home before you know it. I know the AVGN Movie will be great and us fans are all so proud of you, especially those who’ve been watching you since the very first Angry “Nintendo” Nerd review appeared on YouTube. To watch your dreams slowly build has been awesome and we hope that this will be your rocket that shoots you into fame and fortune and a very long career in making movies. Again, good luck and best wishes always. : )

Been a fan for years bro,Im not realy a bloger acctually today on this blog is my first. But afer reading some of the post, mainly by youre wife. Not only dide I realize youre not realy a lonly nerd who totures himself with bad games all day every day.But you seem to be a respectible person.Wich is quite rewarding to findout considering iv seen every review i could find, and get to play. But It always seemed that AVGN was speacial. And relateable to me i have played a large number of the games that you reviewd.(some really will make you almost that damn angry)I fell a little guilty that I wasent around for fundraseing (BCT Ft Benning GA) but now im home and working on a AVGN awareness sceam

I’ve heard people say that it’ll probably be a disappointment. I can’t see why though .. They’ve got a pretty descent budget, spent years writing the script and preparing for this, and James’ best reviews are so cinematic anyway… at the very least I would think he should be able to make something that’s as entertaining as the show with better production value and a wider scope than a 20 minute episode.

The C64 version of the Real Ghostbusters was very good, stop whing that its games not as good as the NES version, of course it is not. The C64 with its 1mhz processor, 16 colors and 64kb of memory can of course not make as technically advanced games as the NES, but it got a really good musicchip and kicks NES ass on that front. Look at other 8bit computers like Spectrum or Amstrad and you will be really impressed with the c64!

TRB was really fun and challenging game. The graphics were good enough, music was top notch and really fun to play 2 players. It was one of my favorites on the machine. For a 9 minutes review of the C64 game, you can go to:

You have made so many small films but a feature length film is an entirely different job as you well know. However, you are the best damn short film director out there and rest assured, the feature length film is going to be loved by your fans. Just please continue to pour your heart into this film. As the saying goes, lead with your heart and the rest will follow! We love you James! Keep up the amazing work! You make us so happy!

    April 29, 2012 at 12:03 am

C64 was a very capable machine. My poison of choice was the Atari 800XL home computer though, it had a pretty dang good sound chip and the graphics modes were really good for the time, especially since it usually hooked to a TV rather than a monitor.

It’s funny though, quite often you’d get a double sided floppy back in the day that had C64 on one side and Atari 600/800 on the other. (“Ninja” was one of those.) Could you imagine these days buying a game on a double sided disc that had XBox 360 on one side and PS/3 on the other? :)
