March 30, 2012 at 12:17 am
@mattbchillin Right, right! Anyway, back to the video!
March 30, 2012 at 12:18 am
Wow, Mike is really bustin his balls making all these videos while James is away…what a good friend!
March 30, 2012 at 12:25 am
@CaseySeymour Damn right.
March 30, 2012 at 12:25 am
@CaseySeymour Yea. It’s great
March 30, 2012 at 12:26 am
I gotta give you a lot of credit Mike. You’re keeping CM updated with new content until James can return.
March 30, 2012 at 12:29 am
Yea i tried the melt the pen trick on a snes cartridge, and it did not work, so i was like F*** it and bought the security bit online.
March 30, 2012 at 12:31 am
Also, even though it didn’t work, that pen trick was genius.
March 30, 2012 at 12:38 am
Your right Mike, that Treehouse of Horror game is not worth your time. I could not even get past the first stage which is Simpsons house being haunted. Also. I cannot stand when companies us abnormal tools to put a system together. They obviously do this intentionally so we have to pay them to fix our broken products instead of fixing them ourselves.
March 30, 2012 at 12:40 am
Mike, I know you can open a SNES cartridge by using mid sized tweezers to grip onto the screw and turn, it should work for the GBC cartridge as well. I really enjoy your episodes and look forward to seeing more.
Let me know if this works.
March 30, 2012 at 12:43 am
ummm, Mike, I’ve done the pen trick countless times before… it works… Give it another try.
March 30, 2012 at 12:48 am
Also, I doubt the battery is the problem. It is more likely something else wrong with the game. The battery is typically there for game saves (Solid state memory back in the day just wasn’t what is is today). Even when the battery goes out, you can typically play the game. You just can’t save. Perhaps the contact points are corroded?
March 30, 2012 at 12:45 am
Yea, First Like!
March 30, 2012 at 12:50 am
Replacing the battery wouldn’t have helped anyone. The battery just saves savegames, it shouldn’t affect the game actually running. The pokemon games are notorious for this. You can play through them fine, but they just won’t save.
March 30, 2012 at 1:17 am
@billymcfly IDK about notorious. They have a shelf-life of like 12 years so unless you play the shit out of that cart 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, it won’t run out quickly. Besides, emulators are perfectly legal if you own the products.
March 30, 2012 at 12:58 am
I wonder if a gator grip would work.
March 30, 2012 at 1:00 am
Mike is spoiling us with all these videos. Your’re awesome Mike.
March 30, 2012 at 1:02 am
Mike is spoiling us with all these videos. You’re awesome Mike.
March 30, 2012 at 1:37 am
I had no idea that Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine had a Game Boy version. Was it any good?
March 30, 2012 at 1:38 am
coulda used emulator for the last game … it’s legal to use emulators and roms if you own the original game
March 30, 2012 at 2:38 pm
@CatlinMassier No, it is not. That is just reason to justify illegal emulation. Fact is, downloading roms of games you own is still illegal, no matter what reason you have for doing so.
March 30, 2012 at 1:50 am
I gotta say, you’re the man Mike. Whenever I check on the site there’s always a new video for me to watch. Thanks man.
March 30, 2012 at 1:57 am
Mike,
You’re doing a fine job doing the AVGN thing while James is on hiatus. I like your funny quips with the black hole etc. I hope you keep it up.
March 30, 2012 at 1:59 am
Great job, Mike! This one is glitching like a motherfucker, though!
March 30, 2012 at 2:02 am
Here here, to Mike for sharing with us these videos on a constant basis, I measure my life not by fays, yet by cinemassacre videos, always delighting me without fail. Cheers mate

March 30, 2012 at 2:07 am
For these weird Nintendo screws, I simply remove the end of a bic pen and immediately insert and twist. I’ve never found the need for melting.
March 30, 2012 at 2:08 am
I usually use the this variety of bic pen. I don’t know if it makes a difference though.

March 30, 2012 at 2:09 am
@PTatoes Ya, I was impressed when Mike was going to use the pen trick… I’ve used it probably a thousand times… Then he lit the end on fire and I was questioning his sanity… lmao
March 30, 2012 at 2:30 am
I think this is one case where it’s alright to use an emulator. You own the game. You ripped it. You did. It was your rom rip. You don’t need to show your homemade rom ripper to prove that you know
March 30, 2012 at 4:32 am
@Lanlost This is very true, if your already paid money(s) for the game, you now own it. Your not distributing it nationally or anything, you would only be manipulating the course on which you play it…. But what do I know, im stuck on Dracula on I wanna be the Guy…
March 30, 2012 at 2:54 am
i used that pen and fire trick to open my GameCube xD
March 30, 2012 at 2:58 am
I hope you continue to produce videos when James is finished with the movie.
March 30, 2012 at 5:32 am
@BubbaBryant Exactly. I think he will, considering he had started doing his Game Glitch videos before James moved to CA to do the film.
March 30, 2012 at 3:07 am
Thanks for the information about the pen trick. Kind of neat even though it didn’t work this time. You would most likely need a new cart however. Maybe someone will donate one.
March 30, 2012 at 3:30 am
These games look far to good to be reviewed! These are classics no doubt, but at no way can compare to Zombie Nation on NES. Please review this game! The plot had me gripped within seconds.
March 30, 2012 at 4:22 am
The battery simply holds the data for saved files, the game should still run without it.
March 30, 2012 at 4:22 am
Is the Nerd too busy with his movie to make new AVGN episodes? I have spending more time watching Zero Punctuation episodes now.
March 30, 2012 at 4:30 am
@IanClarke You must be GNU here
March 30, 2012 at 5:31 am
@IanClarke It’s amazing to me how dim some visitors to this site actually seem to be. It’s been stated over and over and over and over and over again the last many months, that YES, once James got going with the movie, he WOULD NOT, and COULD NOT spend time making new episodes as well. Or are you saying you could do both just fine yourself?
March 30, 2012 at 7:08 am
@IanClarke James did a Nerd-Log (The Point of No Return) the other day. There he said he is planning to make a new AVGN episode sometime later this summer. He is filming the moview between April 1st to May 5th.
March 30, 2012 at 4:32 am
I understand it is perfectly legal to use an emulator if you own the original game.
If I am correct about that, why not just use an emulator to record?
March 30, 2012 at 4:35 am
@savigy This is true it’s perfectly legal to use an emulator if you own the actual game. As for the emulator being “cheating” however, it’s only cheating if you turn on the options to do so, if you just play the game straight like you do on the actual console your not cheating and you dont have to deal with trying to get it to load or having it stall when you are far into the game.
March 30, 2012 at 5:09 am
It does work with the pen, I did it whilst I was waiting for my tool as I repaired Pokemon games for people.
March 30, 2012 at 6:14 am
great reviews mike, keep on doing!
March 30, 2012 at 6:57 am
Escape from camp Deadly was my first Gameboy game
so many hours spent trying to figure out how to pass those bees… Thanks for the review, Mike.
March 30, 2012 at 7:04 am
I think it depends on the kind of pen you use Mike… I’ve tried this before to open several Nintendo things (they all have the similar funky designed screw) and it works best to use a solid colored plastic pen, not a clear one. You just gotta get lucky and find the right kind of plastic I guess!
March 30, 2012 at 7:42 am
That transporter gun would be the TR-116 rifle which fired a tritanium bullet. The weapom was equipped with a micro-trasporter and a exographic targeting system allowed the shooter to find a target in any location. *end nerd moment*
March 30, 2012 at 7:49 am
You can buy those drill bits for like two bucks online. As for the pen trick, it works with pens that have softer plastic, believe it or not. You need one that you can bend with your fingers and it won’t snap. Those brittle clear bic ones don’t work. I’ve tried it before.
Anyway, good video as always.
March 30, 2012 at 7:54 am
I use to use a pair of needlenose pliers that were fine enough to fit in the recess and around the screw, and hold very tight and twist.
I actually managed to take my N64 apart using the pen trick, so it does work. I think it might be better to leave it on the screw and let it cool on top of it to keep the fit.
I just have a 30 or something piece console bit set that works perfect.
March 30, 2012 at 8:37 am
if you People Want the Tool’ Just go to Ebay & Type in NES Tool.
it will also Work in SNES & N64 & the Gameboy Games.
March 30, 2012 at 8:52 am
shit, when i was a kid i figured out how to open gameboy and NES and SNES cartridges just by turning those screws with a needle- noes pliers. I used to rent sweet games and switch the insides with lame games and return them with the wrong GUts. It was how i got all the mega man X games. Old school piracy!
March 30, 2012 at 9:13 am
I played Camp Deadly long time ago; It’s a bad game, though not as frustrating as the NES titles as far as i remember.
btw… aside from Konami’s Arcade, was there ANY good Simpsons games?
March 30, 2012 at 9:57 am
@Sirkrozz The Simpsons game for ps3 and 360 wasn’t half bad, though it wasn’t great.
March 30, 2012 at 9:15 am
What’s the Angry video game nerd going to say when he finds out you ruined one of his pens!
March 30, 2012 at 9:18 am
I got the pen thing to work with Nes games, I had to do it a few years back and the same pen still works…you only have to melt the pen alittle bit and it will mold.
March 30, 2012 at 9:20 am
Actually that trick with the pen does work quite well. I just did it for my own “Zelda – Oracle of Times” USB Stick. The trick is to heat it up with a lighter, then press it on the screw and then just wait for a few seconds. After this you can loose the screw while applying pressure on the cartridge.
March 30, 2012 at 9:25 am
wow I didn’t know that there are batteries in gameboy color games
March 30, 2012 at 10:53 am
@sourman Batteries are needed to save the game, Trouble is once a battery fails the game will delete your saved data or in this case wont work.
March 30, 2012 at 9:27 am
Gotta Love Emulators & Roms
March 30, 2012 at 9:35 am
I would first try the game on a GameBoy Color to see if it works there. If that doesn’t work, try this: http://www.amazon.com/Steel-3-8mm-Screwdriver-Security-Nintendo-Games/dp/B000F8GWH2
(Note, I have never opened a GameBoy Color game, but am just pointing out where you can get a tool for that. I can’t verify that the tool in question actually works.)
March 30, 2012 at 9:39 am
thats a shame because the treehouse of horror one is the only Simpsons game I actually have for the Gameboy. I was quite curious to see what you thought. Personally I found it really frustrating.
March 30, 2012 at 9:40 am
I use small flathead screwdrivers to open up gameboy games. but a dead battery is no reason for a game not working, at least on classic gameboy, it just won’t save your game. try blowing it.
March 30, 2012 at 9:54 am
The pen melting trick should actually work.
I did it for opening a broken Gamecube console once.
The console is still broken but at least the self made screwdriver worked
Did you think about using an emulator?
I know its not the real deal, but for situations like that it would be a good solution.
March 30, 2012 at 10:00 am
pen trick works dont listen to him. I’ve used it hundreds of times to open nintendo screws.
He melted the pen too much and used the wrong type of pen.
you should use ordinary white plastic pens not the thick clear ones. and you only need to pass the flame over the tip a couple of times to warm it up or slightly blacken it then you shove it in the hole and let it cool.
you dont need to remove it to let it cool it should turn the screw if you leave it in if you remove it when its warm it might warp your mold.
March 30, 2012 at 10:27 am
You should have taken an emulator for the last game… I know that James and you don’t want to use those programs, but it’s an exceptional measure… and a legal one if you actually own the game!
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am

March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
Mike’s all well and good, but we all really want a proper AVGN, James. :c
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
Mike is doing a damn fine job with the site while James is away, hope he keeps it up even when James comes back.
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am

March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
Never liked Mike, I’ll just keep rewatching old episodes.
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
You can use a pair of needle nose pliers to get into a gameboy game
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am

March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am

March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am

March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
The bic pen trick works just try using the back of the pen. Nice job with the review and I hope you keep it up after the movie is finished.Your doing a great job.
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
takes me back
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
I really like Mike’s game reviews! It’s like getting back to basics: interesting, informative, insightful, and NOT overproduced.
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
Oh my god, I had this game! I made it to a level that warned me that “homer sleeps with one eye open” and while moving between giant jars and books and whatnot, i had a chance of getting caught. but i never really understood what made me get caught, so i would end up getting game over. then i never played it again.
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
I had that Treehouse of Terror game as a kid, it was ass.
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
Mike, you are as funny as having your balls stuck on a door
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
Agreed with sam, the change in hosts is definitely for the better.
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
hey james i know your making a movie and mikes cool but your killing your website that made us loyal fans keep that in mind
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
I would unsubscribe if it wasn’t for possibility of another nerd review.
March 30, 2012 at 10:37 am
In the same pot as the pen you had a pair of scissors. Just pinch and twist easy.
March 30, 2012 at 10:50 am
What was the music in the beginning?
March 30, 2012 at 10:55 am
@MegaManX I think it’s from TMNT the arcade game. I could be wrong, though. Since this video is about Simpsons’ games maybe it’s from the Simpsons’ arcade game.
