In this video, Mike reviews some retro games that feature Donald Duck as the main star. There were of course other games out there where Donald makes appearances such as Kingdom Hearts, World of Illusion and so on. But this video is mainly about the major titles where Donald was the central character in the spotlight.

March 22, 2012 at 8:36 pm

March 22, 2012 at 8:36 pm
Some of my earliest memories come from my Dad and I playing Quackshot on the Genesis. I cant forget World of Illusion too, that was one of the first co-op games that I loved
March 22, 2012 at 8:38 pm
Aww, thought it’d be a new nerd review..
March 22, 2012 at 9:13 pm
@alfredthenunez I did too, and then I saw the tags. :/
March 22, 2012 at 8:48 pm
For further reading, I recommend everyone to check out this article which details every single game that stars Donald Duck

going quackers was hard as helllll!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 22, 2012 at 8:50 pm
i love goin quackers but i had it for the sega dreamcast
January 3, 2013 at 1:17 am
i actually had going quackers for the N64. id be happy if i can find it somewhere though just to play it again for the hell of it.
March 22, 2012 at 8:55 pm
Lol, Quack attack looks like it’s crash bandicoot with changed textures and sounds, very similar level builds and physics.
March 22, 2012 at 8:59 pm
hehehe wall chicken
March 22, 2012 at 9:11 pm
Granted, Quackshot is one of those games which made Genesis worth having it among a few true gems (being Castle of Illusion also one of them).
But the best Donald i’ve seen it in Kingdom Hearts. Even Goofy was a solid character without losing his Disney Charm (KH I; KHII turned everything way too unnecessarily complicated and i would only recommend it to the true Squaresoft fans which can withstand all the emo nonsense Organization XIII puts on the plot).
But hey, Adventures in the Magic Kingdom was a great Capcom game; even it’s the first one i remember beating up and feelin’ proud about it!
March 22, 2012 at 10:56 pm
@HorazStCruz I have to say that if anything KHII is less complicated! Play Birth by Sleep and Chain of Memories, Organization XIII is emo because their very complex Nobodies. They are creature who are just a shell of a body with no heart or soul. Of course they’re going to be “emo.” I’m not hating at all and mean nothing of it, just a friendly reconsider.
March 23, 2012 at 12:07 am
@tyds83g I’m just making a point about a good game that it’s not worth the hating as everybody -that OF COURSE haven’t played whole- thinks.
I understood the plot and i like KH II a lot. But facts are facts and KH II resembles more a FF than a Disney-franchise universe like the one i think was, and for some people that just an “emo threat”.
Just an opinion.
Oh, and for the ones that haven’t played KH and have a fondness for Disney, I’d strongly recommend it, just as i’d recommend anybody to sit and watch The Sleeping Beauty or 101 Dalmatians whih are my “Traditional Animation” favourites.
March 23, 2012 at 12:04 am
@HorazStCruz I’m still very lost at how the KH series got complicated with 2. I played the games as they were released and completely understand the story.
Is it because people just refuse to play the side games? The addition of Nobodies makes perfect sense. Heartless are the corrupted souls of beings who lost their hearts, Nobodies are the bodies that remained. More powerful people can retain a human form.
March 22, 2012 at 9:48 pm
You kind of forgot “Magical Quest 3 – Starring Mickey & Donald”, which came out for the SNES originally, but never saw a release outside of Japan until the GBA-versions of all three Magical Quest-games came along.
March 22, 2012 at 10:06 pm
@Mike/Cinemassacre Yeah, I see, that and the Japan-only release during the SNES-era was why I said “kinda”. Still, Magical Quest 3 was a bit unique in that it gave both characters different abilities with each costume, making them both feel separate, and also the goal of the game was to rescue Donald’s nephews. But again, I can see why you left it out. I just really like the Magical Quest games
March 22, 2012 at 10:06 pm
Great game review, I look forward for more game reviews over movie reviews, because I think you may agree more gamers go to your site than movie enthusiast, just lay off games that are ass, those are for James XD.
March 22, 2012 at 10:13 pm
what about pk
March 22, 2012 at 11:12 pm
@kamate2 PK Out of the Shadows….. Man I loved that game.
Also, wasn’t there a PS1 and PS2 version of Goin’ Quakers? I mean PS2, I have the PS1 version.
March 22, 2012 at 10:33 pm
isn’t there a part in quackshot where donald let’s huey dewey and louie roll a miner’s cart off a cliff to their deaths?
what a sick fuck.
March 22, 2012 at 10:45 pm
I liking this constant content from Mike. It’s exactly what’s needed to keep me checking the site while the movie is being made.
March 22, 2012 at 11:03 pm
This was an unexpected treat. Well done!
March 22, 2012 at 11:07 pm
Nice attempt, Mike…
March 22, 2012 at 11:12 pm
Kingdom Hearts can burn in hell for all I care, but I’d play the rest of those.
March 22, 2012 at 11:24 pm
@JakeLaFortune Exactly! I don’t care what the Kingdom Hearts fans say, Kingdom Hearts SUCKS!!!
March 22, 2012 at 11:41 pm
@MegaManX @JakeLaFortune Yeah! If I don’t like a game it SUCKS RIGHT? I mean no one can have other opinions then you, the all knowing deity that controls everything and even though millions of people have enjoyed it and love it. By no means try to be mature open minded person since you have so much power in this world that we live in that anything you don’t like sucks.
March 22, 2012 at 11:42 pm
@STNOlawlin @MegaManX @JakeLaFortune Well said, I am not a super fan of KH, but I hate haters. Honestly, the series has had more bad or mediocre games than good.
March 22, 2012 at 11:58 pm
@Isaiah Fuller @STNOlawlin @MegaManX @JakeLaFortune Bad and mediocre is a matter of perspective. The only truly bad KH game was the Re:Coded port for the DS and that was bad because it was port of Cell phone game in Japan. The games play well and the story at least in my opinion is very interesting. Linking the various Disney worlds together through the main plot line.
Are they for everybody no, is it right to just dismiss them entirely? No.
Should it be called a Donald Duck game? No, Donald appears in a supporting role (literally) in that series.
March 22, 2012 at 11:14 pm
Personally I love Scrooge McDuck, he’s just fuckin’ awesome (And a good Scottish character). Donald Duck is also brilliant. Quackshot is one of the games of my childhood, and I love it. Was so hard back in the day, though.Thank you, Carl Barks.
March 22, 2012 at 11:27 pm
World of Illusion for Sega Genesis is by far the best Donald duck game ever. It had Mickey Mouse in it as well but there was coop and the graphics for the time and level design are all superior. Disappointed it wasn’t even mentioned.
March 22, 2012 at 11:36 pm
@Zephyr Just a question of pure curiosity, how many Donald Duck games have you played?
March 22, 2012 at 11:43 pm
@Isaiah Fuller Enough to know that I put in many many more hours into that game over any other one. I will say I have never played Kingdom Hearts but that’s mainly due to the fact of my age at the time and I don;t consider that a “Donald Duck” game as it’s more a “Disney” game.
March 22, 2012 at 11:47 pm
@Zephyr Oh, KH is definitely a Disney game, with a little Final Fantasy thrown in.
I’m too young for most of the games ever showcased on this site, they aren’t of my time. The name struck me because I do have a Sega Master System and Castle of Illusion, but that game doesn’t have Donald Duck.
March 22, 2012 at 11:42 pm
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of Mike… But when I clicked this I thought it was an AVGN surprise…
I was wrong. This is not the same.
March 22, 2012 at 11:54 pm
@JordanWalters Well i enjoyed it, how would it be AVGN when James is busy. Well done Mike but i thought you would of mentioned Donald Ducks playground on C64. But really appreciate the game review you should continue the , Game, Board game and movie reviews!
March 23, 2012 at 12:28 am
@JordanWalters
James is busy with the movie.
March 23, 2012 at 12:05 am
Very nice retrospective on Donald. He’s like the Luigi of the Disney Characters. Mickey gets everything and Donald gets nothing.
I’ll definitely have to check out some of these titles.
March 23, 2012 at 4:19 am
@shadow51090 Ha Ha, in Norway it has always been the other way around! The comic magazine in Norway is called “Donald Duck and friends”, and mickey always have the “second story” in the issue, usually a detective story with a very pompous and serious Mickey and Goofy as a dumbass Dr. Watson character.
March 23, 2012 at 12:31 am
WHIP HIS ASS WITH A STICK
March 23, 2012 at 12:31 am
Good job Mike, keep up the new videos. We appreciate it.
March 23, 2012 at 12:40 am
This was good and i appreciate Mike holding down the fort like he has been and i really enjoy his movie reviews but… It just wasn’t angry enough for me.
March 23, 2012 at 12:44 am
mike kinda looks like donald duck, lol, good review.
March 23, 2012 at 12:45 am
Wow this was a great review! I’m suprised that no AVGN fanboy has whined about Mike doing this yet though. But yeah, good review Mike!
March 23, 2012 at 12:48 am
There should be a new category called Mikes Game Glitches and Reviews
March 23, 2012 at 12:49 am
Hell yeah Quackshot! I’m gonna go load that bitch in my Genesis right now. Fuck that game is fun.
March 23, 2012 at 1:08 am
Only Donald Duck game, what i have played was Gold Shadow. If i remember right, in ninja mode can get even stronger, if collet enough those tokens.
I not anymore sure about that, because i played that game many years ago and i don’t have that game anymore.
March 23, 2012 at 1:21 am
we’re getting closer to the “motherfucker videogame mike”
March 23, 2012 at 1:24 am
best game with donald duck was kingdom hearts hands down. but I did play duck shots, it was ok. but kingdom hearts beats any game on this list.
March 23, 2012 at 1:28 am
quackshot fuck yeah, one of my fondest memories of the megadrive/genesis era
March 23, 2012 at 1:29 am
You seem of be quite the Disney comics fanatic, Mike, but why haven’t you yet given a nod to Don Rosa’s works? His writing certainly isn’t as witty as Barks, but he easily makes up for it with his hyper-detailed drawings & usage of historical facts.
I sure hope you aren’t one of those Barks fanboys who think Rosa gets ALL of his good ideas from Barks, and draws without any heart… -_-
March 23, 2012 at 1:40 am
My first Donald Duck game was for commodore 64. I played it at a friend’s, and we were too young to figure out what to do. I even forgot the name, but donald was supposed to build a playground and had to buy all this stuff.
March 23, 2012 at 1:43 am
cool
March 23, 2012 at 1:45 am
Mike is taking over! Mike could have his own website and it would rival Cinemassacre! You rock Mike! Still love you too though James lol!
March 23, 2012 at 2:06 am
Maui Mallard is just Donald Duck blatantly ripping off Daffy’s ‘costumed alter egos’ bit.
Also Pete has been an enemy for Donald in the past, not a lot I’ll admit, but he’s just awesome, if it was up to me he’d be just going around being an enemy for everyone, even Scrooge McDuck and Darkwing Duck and Chip n’ Dale. They did make him an enemy for Goofy in that show Goof Troop, no one questioned that.
March 23, 2012 at 2:08 am
It’s kind of funny I never played or even remember any of those Donald Duck games. I really liked the look of the SNES game, really nice graphics and fluent animation, it’s a shame it isn’t a better game.
March 23, 2012 at 2:14 am
You surely should have tried Magical Quest 3, Mike. It’s a SNES game, It’s a Mickey Series, but in the third game of the Franchise, Donald is the Star. He gets the best weapons, have the best dialogues, he even is the one who provokes the adventure, going after his nephews, kidnappped by Big Bad Pete. And Mickey, besides being the main role of the game, offers to give Donald some help. Donald kickes so much asses that Mickey abdicates his main role to be a simple second Player character with the most annoying weapons of the game.I love this duck.
March 23, 2012 at 2:17 am
God damn my “Kidnappped” typo.
March 23, 2012 at 2:14 am
When he said, “if your looking for a good game that features Donald Duck”, is he saying Kingdom Hearts WASN’T good?
March 23, 2012 at 2:15 am
@AdamBettcher I think he said “A good game that features Donald Duck in the main role and isn’t a JRPG”.
March 23, 2012 at 2:17 am
But if your looking for a really good game featuring Donald Duck id say go for quack shot. Is what he said. I hope he means as the main character because Kingdom Hearts is a great series.
March 23, 2012 at 2:32 am
Donald fights Dracula? dont you mean Duckula?
March 23, 2012 at 2:40 am
hey mike i only knew the going quackers on the PS2
March 23, 2012 at 2:56 am
Fucking love world of illusion, that was my childhood drunk and now I thirst for quackshot…Gracias Miguel!!!
March 23, 2012 at 2:58 am
Fucking love world of illusion, that was my childhood crunk and now-I thirst for quackshot!!!…Gracias Miguel
March 23, 2012 at 3:11 am
You forgot to mention how much goin quackers is like crash bandicoot.
March 23, 2012 at 4:00 am

March 23, 2012 at 4:01 am
EEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHCIMMMMMMM!!!!!!
March 23, 2012 at 4:03 am
i appreciate the reviews mike. keep em coming
March 23, 2012 at 4:10 am
Don’t listen to any whining kids. You bring a different style to this website that’s just as good as all the other stuff. Mike has been a big part of AVGN all along, he was just more behind the scenes. He took part in some of the best AVGN episodes, show some respect.
March 23, 2012 at 4:15 am
Good review mike!
March 23, 2012 at 4:15 am
Genesis wins again! Yeah, that game is awesome. That N64 belongs to a time when every game had to be in 3D to make people buy it, but the game designers didn’t quite know what to do with it yet.
March 23, 2012 at 4:17 am
Funny how Mike talked about Donald not wearing pants in the Going Quackers segment since Going Quackers is banned in Jerusalem because Donald Duck wasn’t wearing pants.
March 23, 2012 at 4:19 am
@TehKnight How can a game be banned in one city? Also, I’m Israeli and never heard of anything related to Donald Duck being banned anywhere around here.
March 23, 2012 at 7:56 am
@TehKnight This is a urban legend based around the stupid “controversy” of christian politicans trying to ban donald duck in finland because he dosent wear any pants. It never actually happended actually, probably because donald duck is the most subcribed magazine in finland.
March 23, 2012 at 4:48 am
Did he say that Kingdom Hearts is bad?
March 23, 2012 at 7:30 am
@Vergilthenew I’m saying that Kingdom Hearts was bad. Mawp :Kappa:
March 23, 2012 at 7:52 am
@Trojan_Reggae are you frigging nuts kingdom hearts 1 and 2 are the best disney games out there
March 25, 2012 at 9:34 am
@StevenChapman I was effin crazy when I banged your mom! :Kappa:
March 23, 2012 at 10:09 am
@Mike/Cinemassacre Please, please, PLEASE, I beg either you or James to make a review of the Kingdom Hearts series!
March 23, 2012 at 4:55 am
World of illusion wasn’t a good game? I call epic bullshit on that one. It’s 1 of the best games on megadrive, also the maui mallard game was on megadrive and it was better on megadrive but imo all games released for both were better on megadrive, snes always seemed to have trouble with the scrolling and even in games like mickey mania and earthworm jim and batman forever it had stupid 5 second loading screens between each level….why? its a fucking cartridge. megadrive never had any problems with speed or graphic loading. so yea, bottom line, quackshot was great but world of illusion was much more fun all around and megadrive is way underapreciated by snes fanboys.
March 23, 2012 at 5:06 am
Mike. Totally agree quack shot is the top tier of donald duck gaming.
March 23, 2012 at 5:06 am
Oh my god i remember Maui Mallard and Quagshot! (i had sega genesis)
So many memories! i completed Maui after long years but quagshot never… ill have to pass it now! Thx for the reminder
March 23, 2012 at 5:36 am
Where is my damn sammich Mike?
March 23, 2012 at 6:08 am
quagshot a great great sega genesis game i LOVE IT i will get that game again
March 23, 2012 at 7:20 am
I never played any of these games, some of them look really good. I wish I had a Genesis.
I had one for the Commodore 64 called Donald Duck’s Playground. I don’t know how well it would hold up today but I liked it back then.
March 23, 2012 at 7:31 am
ok, maybe a few people recognize, but the N64 version is a DELIBERATE COPY of crash bandicoot 3 O_o’
the warp room system
the mini-boss run
the boss system (who is located in the center of the warp zone)
the time-run quest
also, some boss fight remind me some boss of CB3 O_O’
and this is funny because in the biginning, the first crash bandicoot it’s a copy of super mario land, so now we have a copy of another cosy xDD
but wait, the CB serie is WAY batter than this donal duck version (i mean, the naughtydog serie…)
March 23, 2012 at 1:45 pm
@Taku777 I know right? It was really distracting because all I saw was CB3.
March 23, 2012 at 7:34 am
Oh ho Mike, lolol, a cock is a rooster and roosters don’t lay eggs. I’d would also like to say that QuackShot was my fav Duck game aswell, not counting DuckTales of course lol. Keep em comming Mike!
March 23, 2012 at 7:45 am
Quackshot is really awesome. It was the scond game I ever owned and i was 5 at the time so i really have fond memories of it. It was balls hard for a five year old though.
March 23, 2012 at 8:03 am
Ah yes, Quackshot was one of my favorite games by Sega. I still think it’s one of the best side-scrollers of all time.
Nice job with the reviews, Mike.
March 23, 2012 at 8:40 am
I loved Quackshot as a kid! Such a fun game!
March 23, 2012 at 8:41 am
nice job mike. I really enjoyed your review. Quackshot is for sure a killer game too.
March 23, 2012 at 8:57 am
Nice review!
Goin’ Quackers looks a lot like Crash Bandicoot. It’s the same style of 3D platform game, and the 4 levels where you collect toys to unlock time trial levels and pieces of bosses reminds me of the crystals, relics and gems you had to collect in CB.
March 23, 2012 at 9:23 am
@Aaron CdeC Exactly my what I was thinking! This is a Crash Bandicot rip off!
March 23, 2012 at 9:23 am
@Aaron CdeC Exactly what I was thinking! This is a Crash Bandicot rip off!
March 23, 2012 at 8:58 am
dolan dukc s a masertapec gud on mike
March 23, 2012 at 9:26 am
Quackshot is awesome, one of the best SEGA Mega Drive games.
March 23, 2012 at 9:31 am
Brilliant! Mike is the only person who could do this almost as well as James.
March 23, 2012 at 9:56 am
Going Quackers is a total Crash rip off
March 23, 2012 at 10:28 am
@fowlerpl A bad Crash Bandicoot rip-off, haha!
March 23, 2012 at 11:23 am
@fowlerpl Going Quackers was made before crash.
March 23, 2012 at 11:49 am
@GiordanoTweeter @fowlerpl 100% incorrect. Crash Bandicoot came out on PS1 in 1996 and already had 2 sequels before Goin’ Quackers came out in 2000.
March 23, 2012 at 10:27 am
dont you mean Duckula?
March 23, 2012 at 10:58 am
great video michael
March 23, 2012 at 11:48 am
PK for the Gamecube is a great Donald Duck game! Anyone else remember that one?
March 23, 2012 at 12:00 pm
Hey, Mike. Can you review A BOY AND HIS BLOB? Thanks.
March 23, 2012 at 12:17 pm

March 23, 2012 at 12:23 pm

March 23, 2012 at 2:08 pm
@jrangel323 That game was like 4 hours long.
March 23, 2012 at 12:32 pm
Awesome vid! Please do more reviews!
March 23, 2012 at 12:56 pm
Keep the game reviews comin’ Mike!!
March 23, 2012 at 1:54 pm
No mention of Donald Duck’s Playground on the C64. I’m dissapoint.. Though it’s basically just repetition to get more money to buy toys for the kids I still enjoyed it alot.
