Immediately after this review, I search Netflix and I come up empty. Bummer, because that would have gone straight to the top of the queue.

    Great review Mike!

Just like I used to look forward to James’ AVGN videos at the beginning of the month, I find myself checking Cinemassacre every Sunday night/Monday morning for Mike’s Movie Reviews. Keep up the good work!! :-)

      March 18, 2012 at 10:35 pm

@Mike/Cinemassacre Mike, seriously, thanks for taking over the movie shit in James’ absence.  Are you writing/editing these too?

@Mike/Cinemassacre Dude Mike, I look forward to this every Sunday night/monday morning, just like I used to look forward to AVGN episodes.  Motherfuckin’ Monday has come a long way.  I watched this and loved it.  I am going through some very stressful treatment as my health is failing and my wife said it was the first time she has seen me laugh or smile in days.  She was very thankful that I have something like Cinemassacre to keep my spirits up and something to look forward to.  My treatment has taken its toll on me and its hard to look forward to anything between all the shots and pills and Doctor appointments, but by god any time I see you or James and a new video its like my little escape from reality.  Its my “drug.”  It might be the best drug that I have to take to make myself feel better during my treatment.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  Seriously Thank you Mike and James.

It’s available in the U.K. under the title “Dark Angel.”

Nice. I honestly can’t say I have seen that guy in much but Rocky. The alien guy looked rather familiar though.

    March 18, 2012 at 10:35 pm

@MotherfuckerMike I personally think that probably biggest role of Dolph Lundgren (besides his role in Rocky) is in “Universal soldier” with Jean-Claude Van Damme… that’s fun action flick too, if you haven’t seen it, check it out.

Mike/James, I just wanted to make sure you guys know about a contest currently going on, it’s called “king of the web” and I think you guys have a shot at winning. First place is $7500, and all you need to win is the most votes. The website is http://kingofweb.com/

I wasn’t sure how to get your attention so I thought I would give you the 411 by posting this comment on your latest videos. It would be nice to leave a reply to let us know if you got the message. :)

This is awesome. I love getting to see reviews from Mike. Not only is he just one of those awesome guys who you’d love to hang out with, for the most part, he’s just as much of an expert as James is with everything. I’m sure there are a few areas that each know more about then the other but. Plus..Mike has been there from day 1. Hell, if it wasn’t for him, those very first AVGN episodes would have never been seen. So in a way, Mike is the reason James has become a superstar. And he’s played many characters in the episode. Anyway, awesome review, I love getting to see ones done by Mike. I’ve been a huge fan from the beggining.

“some assholes from outer space” I like Sci-Fi movies so I’ll have to give this a watch sometime.

  • JoshSilvis

    March 19, 2012 at 1:33 am

Also ironic that he mentioned Mortal Kombat because I’m almost positive that the alien is Riaden from the first movie.

    • Thundercles

      March 19, 2012 at 1:50 am

@JoshSilvis – Not sure who plays the Alien. But Raiden was played by Christopher Lambert who played Macleod in the old school Highlander movies, and its definitely not him.

      • March 19, 2012 at 3:45 pm

@Thundercles Did Lambert play Raiden in the second Mortal Kombat film?

      • March 19, 2012 at 3:55 pm

@Century Of Obscurity No. The guy who play’s Dexter’s father on Dexter played Raiden in the sequel.

The stuff 1990′s dreams are made of Mike, thank you metabolife…keep on trucking till the reviews cease sucking
(Although never have sucked, just wanted my comment to have rhymed cause I have always given a fuck

To me cinemassacre is like air, when I do without it I enter deep despair, at last I take in a heavy inhale, and feel free as inmate when he breaks out of jail)

  • manaburnsuicide

    March 19, 2012 at 2:53 am

holy shit! I actually remember my dad watching this when i was a kid. All i remember is the alien getting impaled at the end, and the line, “you go in pieces, asshole”.  great stuff, mike.

  • kaiserete

    March 19, 2012 at 3:18 am

Of university of “Suck my dick”, awesome! HAHAHAHAAA

  • KonsGr

    March 19, 2012 at 3:32 am

In a way the only thing i dont like (sometimes) about the Cinemassacre movie reviews, is how the whole movie plot is revealed. Even the ending sometimes. I mean it would get people who dont like spoilers really angry, or it would ruin it for others that want to search for the movie and sit down and watch it.

But on the other hand, i think its impossible to do it other ways, and achieve the level of presentation u guys are doing. Also less content, means that u guys can make less fun of it during the review.

So dont change ur methods and keep up the awesome work guys! This comes from a person who has seen almost all the videos in here, lol.

  • kaneda_bjf

    March 19, 2012 at 5:15 am

This reminds me so much of a film called The Borrower. After Alien Nation, it seems every director with half a budget decided to do a movie involving intergalactic fugitives and/or refugees who invariably draw the attention of earth-based police forces – with one renegade cop who doesn’t play by the rules! This stuff just writes itself! *scribble scribble*

    • fanboyfilms

      March 19, 2012 at 12:01 pm

@kaneda_bjf It goes back before that with movies like The Hidden.

  • ToniKuhalampi

    March 19, 2012 at 5:29 am

I love this movie! And I totally agree with the blu-ray release..I think for now the best version of the movie is on DVD Region 2 which is at least widescreen format and I think is pretty good quality overall. That VHS you reviewed looks pretty horrid!

  • delsydsoftware

I’ve always thought it was weird the Lundgren has a degree in chemical engineering but always gets cast as the brainless meatbag.

  • kurat

    March 19, 2012 at 8:45 am

that scene where the alien stabs the spike in womans head is brutal. sm like that you wont see in todays movies except for stupid movies like Saw, Hostel or that other stuff that Lionsgate produces.

I think the short, pudgy white haired guy was in Scrooged as well as an old Star Trek episode… “Miri” I think it was called. “Bonk, bonk on the head”!

Ha, I remember this movie from when I was a kid, parents had it on VHS and I used to watch it a lot. Though its title was Dark Angel on VHS not “Come in peace” I know you mentioned that the DVD version has that title too but the same title was used here in the U.K. Was a good fun little movie and believe it or not, I remembered Dolph Lundrad from this movie and Universal Soldiers more than I do Rock IV.

    March 19, 2012 at 5:01 pm

    Hey Mike,
I think, you’re right.  Dark Angels is maybe not a great but a really enjoyable   movie and belongs to every collection of 90′s of classic syifi movies.
How my nickname says, I’m a German and I know this movie with its German synchronization. When I saw your review, I had to notice, how imprecise and uncharitable this movie was synchronized, e.g. the final words “I come in peace” and “you go in pieces” is in back translated: “I come in peace” and “you rest in peace!”
By the way, do somebody else know the movie Death Machine?

I used to watch that show Dream On when I was a kid on “First Choice: The Movie Network”, it was really cool back in the day. It was the first TV show I ever saw that showed nudity. That was pretty exciting for a 12 year old kid.

You’re right about nostalgia making a cheesy movie better, but alot of crappy movies still have entertainment value cause they’re so bad they’re good. It can be fun to sit around with your friends and watch and make fun of a crappy or mediocre movie. Just check out the commentaries that James and Mike have done. They’re fun to watch cause it feels like you’re watching and laughing along with them.

The film was released on VHS in 1990 by Media Home Entertainment, the same company that brought you John Carpenter’s original “Halloween” film from 1978 when it was first released on VHS the following year when it was originally called MEDA. This was at the time, Media was in its dark years of releasing some horror B-movie titles and other rare family oriented films on home video. About three years later, Media went out of business in 1993 after it was bought out by Fox Video, and the rest of the Media titles including this one was later distributed by Video Treasures.

  • metalcommand

    March 20, 2012 at 11:45 am

@Kurvos I like blu ray, especially with older movies. It looks and sounds amazing. I love Evil Dead II on blu ray. On a big HD screen, it’s amazing, especially if you have a 5.1 DD surround system.

  • March 20, 2012 at 12:00 pm

@Kurvos Damn straight. I hate how most movies these days give all the special features to the bluray version, while the dvd versions get the shaft.

    • Bernie the Shredder

      March 20, 2012 at 12:13 pm

@Morgil  @Kurvos I’d say take that up with the differences between DVD and Blu-Ray capacities; Dual Layer DVDs have about 8GB of memory while Blu-Ray discs usually have 50GB…why work so hard trying to compress and cram everything onto a DVD when you can just put it all on a Blu-Ray disc no problem?

      • Bernie the Shredder

        March 20, 2012 at 1:09 pm

@Kurvos  @Morgil That is the single most jaded comment I’ve ever heard about Blu-Ray discs; you can buy Blu-Rays now for like 5 bucks – about the same as a DVD, and Blu-Rays on average only cost about 3 or 4 dollars more than a regular DVD. Considering the fact that you get a sharper image quality as well as sound quality – a remarkable difference on both ends as far as I’ve noticed – that seems like a fair trade-off. Your “multiple DVD discs” for special features argument boils down to this: waste. More discs = more plastic used and is thus more wasteful – especially when you take into accunt the larger size of DVD cases. I own a PS3 and still think Blu-Ray is worth it. Granted, I make the decision to buy regular DVDs when I find them used or at a significantly lower price than a Blu-Ray, so I’m not a Blu-Ray die-hard by any means. Bottom line? Your opinion is just as valid as anyone else’s, but Blu-Ray is most certainly not “bullshit” in an objective sense…P.S. If you’re willing to argue that watching Blu-Ray is equally damaging to one’s health as smoking or drinking alcohol, I’d seriously consider trying the latter and comparing the two – then come back and tell me how you feel!

      • JohanMalmsten

        March 20, 2012 at 5:53 pm

@Kurvos What? I mean… like… what?BluRay so sharp it damages your eyes? On par with drinking and smoking? Are you just trolling or are you actually serious? You need a big screen to get something out of BluRays. That I can say. But as the Jaguar commercial says… just “do the math”. It’s roughly four times the amount of pixels of a pristine DVD-master. The sound is almost uncompressed. Basically it’s the closest we can get to a brand new 35mm print right of the camera negative. They aren’t more expensive than DVD’s and I can, if I want, rent a cinema  and play it on a huge screen without suffering a soft image. But I also see a huge difference my 55 inch screen. And I would gander that there would be noticable quality even down to 32 inch depending on viewing distance.
But again… why would a sharp image hurt eyes? Do you walk around with a soft-filter in front of yours just in case a sharp edge would enter you field of vision? I am still flabergasted. Is this supposed to be part of the Alien Lizardmens plot for a new world order as envisioned by the Illuminati? My only problem with blurays is that they still use RegionCoding and BluRays are generally harder to de-regionize than DVD-players. But that’s about it.

      • VinceEdwardBardsley

        March 22, 2012 at 2:03 pm

@Kurvos actually it makes even less sense for games. Compare the load times on the PS3 and the 360. Blue-ray has the worst compression rate

    • Bernie the Shredder

      March 20, 2012 at 5:19 pm

@Kurvos  Quite frankly your ignorance is laughable – like I said, your opinion is valid, but the “points” you make are full of holes and lack logic for the most part. The again, the life of an elitist is always riddled with such problems…Have a good one!

    • Khameleon

      March 21, 2012 at 12:18 pm

@Kurvos Protip: movies are filmed at a higher resolution than 1080p (“bluray”) derp bluray is closer to the source thatn DVD, and especially VHS. Sorry you don’t like watching movies how they’re supposed to be seen, I bet you buy fullscreen movies too huh dipshit?

I have been looking for this movie my whole life!!!! I remember seeing the harvesting scene between the alien and the female mechanic when i was 6 and being so intrigued and horrified by it that the image of the tube goin into the womans chest has stuck with me ever since. I remember goin to video shop and scanning so many VHS back covers trying to find what movie that scene belonged to. For the longest time i thought it was that Julian Sands movie warlock, just because the similar appearance to the alien in I Come In Peace. I have to say thank you so much mike for reviewing this movie and bringing attention to this 80′s action classic, every so often i have my friends around for our “Bad movie/Video Game night” we play video games and watch over the top 80′s 90′s 00′s action/horror/sci fi flicks (80′s are the best) and put shit on them. This movie is now one of our favourites! Thanks :)

This is a definite “Gotta watch” for anyone who like the over the top action flick and or the unique sci-fi movie.

It’s perfect for anyone studying film and or video game design.

I loved how it pulled NO punches, especially when it came to its expected audience.
They knew quite well that it wouldn’t be suitable for kids and that’s how they made it; unlike today where the studios would have tried to water it down to a PG rating.

This is a good old fashioned M-rated film at its M-rated best.

    See it if you haven’t!

Just bought this on VHS yesterday because of this video, the same one that Mike copy shows in this video. Can’t wait to watch it!!

I just finished watching my bluray, such a killer movie. I have nearly every movie put out by Scream Factory and Blue Underground for bluray. One of the cool things about this bluray is it comes with a cover you can reverse to show either I Come In Peace or Dark Angel, however the disc and menu still say Dark Angel.
