Ahhh.. Mike, you are the man. I am going to call you Mother Fucking Mother Fucker Mike ‘the Man Matinee’ Matei from now on, or MFMFMMMM. You can thank me later.
Man, Mike. You are more adept at finding glitches than anyone I know.
Seriously, I haven’t seen most of the glitches you’ve shown off in any other video. I’m only partially through this video and while I’ve seen the Kuribo’s Shoe glitch before, I haven’t seen other’s like the pipe/stuck trick before.
The thing is, I’ve studied game design since I was a kid (I am a programmer, and have been since I was wee-lad) so I understand, in general, how most glitches work. Because of this though, I’ve watched a billion glitch videos and .. I must stress again how many show the same glitches over and over, always. It’s VERY rare to find something you haven’t seen before, although it does happen rarely.
With your videos, typically at least a third are glitches I’ve never seen before. Another 1/3rd are glitches I haven’t seen happen exactly but are deriviatives of other gliches. The final 1/3rd are at least great choices and typically ones that aren’t shown as much.
Either way, I would assume that most people haven’t seen 95% of these glitches. And if you are like me, you should probably agree with the majority of my claims here. These videos are great!
@Lanlost i am more a fan of glitches bugs and such than games themselves. for example, guile’s handcuffs in street fighter 2 arcade game. i am hoping mike will do one for street fighter 2!
Er sorry, in my post below I lost my train of thought from basically the beginning. I was originally going to ask how you find these. Do you research the game’s mechanics and glitches online and then find ones you don’t think people have seen or are the most interesting? Or are these mostly (all?) things you’ve found independently, regardless if others have.
I mean, I will try to break games, as I’m using to betaing my own little creations, but have you always done this? Or is it some combination of the above (Most likely)?
It’s funny. I saw a manual once back in the day for 8/16 bit era beta testers that basically told them to do stuff like jump into all walls as much as possible. Duck 1000 times. These were examples. I would assume these instructions are for non-programmers and such because if you understand the logic behind games it should definitely give you clues where bugs might exist from the get go. Stuff like your tanooki suit/turn into a statue and then grab the hammer bros suit thing.
Er, Mike, you should have said “Mario’s BUTThole” if you wanted to make a reference to Inspector Gadget on the “Super Mario Bros. Super Show”-DVD menu.
@Mister Buckethead I do not say this lightly,,, but BucketHead is the greatest guitarist who has ever lived. I’ve been playing for over 40 years. I should know. Still, it’s just my opinion.
@MECHAGARY Well you’re kinda right i still don’t know who’s the best between him and Paul Gilbert. I just think Gilbert’ solos are more memorable even though he’s fast, whereas i like Buckethead for the mood he sets in his songs. They are just different, but hell are they good !
I cant believe you did not follow up the bowsers castle glitch!!! use p wings fly up and use the highest route, when you get to the bowser statue croutch n go through the wall. Dont do it for the next 1 or you will get stuck, Go to where u fight bowser fly over the wall to your left and back again. Walk right to fight bowser and see what happens
@Mike/Cinemassacre Kinda sad to see them go, I think we all enjoyed your work. But I can understand not wanting to do them anymore, they seemed like a lot of work for something that was only shown for a few seconds.
Mike, are you aware of any glitch where you can destroy those “Rotodisc” things in the castle stages? When I was a kid I had the Tanooki suit and turned into the statue and hit the thing just right and it seemed to destroy it. I was never able to do it again, but I wondered if you’d ever seen that before?
@LeeHannahs The Tanooki statue has the power to kill the Rotodiscs, it’s not a glitch. And Also, another sort of glitch I know of. Use a P-wing on a level that has a giant block with a Tanooki, 5-5 is probably the best one. When you get the Tanooki, you can still fly infinitely like as if you had a p-wing.
@Mike/Cinemassacre If other video reviewers started using them, it might be because you inspired them. Since you mentioned movie posters, I see them as the “posters” for the reviews, so they should be there in my opinion. And last but not least you are a great artist, you have to show your work to the fans. We love it.
Haha! Aw man you and that fucking Inspector Gadget. “Move the glow around Mario’s asshole”. Wait a minute… Oh no, the But-ton’ to click back to homepage doesn’t work. Quick I need a detailed description on how to hit the refresh But-ton!
@Mike/Cinemassacre Although a heap of extra work, the title cards just seemed like part of the review to me. It took the game elements and lampooned them, which is why they worked so well at the beginning. Personally, I’d love to see those title cards in future AVGN videos, if nowhere else. Your work is great and I can normally spot something new in each one every time I rewatch an old review. Having said that, I’m not the one on the end of a brush (or pen, or whatever, I’m no artist) for hours.
There is another glich that you need the Tanooki suit. When your standing on a pipe press down + B (to turn into a statue) at the same time you press down to enter the pipe. Mario will turn gray when entering the pipe. When he come back up again, we will become a statue like normal. Another glitch whit Tanooki suit is when your facing a pipe (whenever is on left or right), press down + B to turn into a statue then let go the buttons at the same time your enter the pipe. Half of Mario`s body will disappear but will return to normal when you exit the pipe.
Glitch #1: Performed that back in 1991.
Glitch #2: Performed that back in 1993.
Glitch #3: Never performed that, but I did fly over that wall to the right.
Glitch #4: Performed that around 2000 or so.
Glitch #5: Performed that back in 1990 or 1991.
Glitch #6: That one is new to me!
Glitch #7: Yep. Probably my first discovered glitch back in 1989.
Glitch #8: Been performing that glitch since 1989.
Glitch #9: Been flying while crouching for years, but never tried phasing through that wall before.
Glitch #10: HOLY MOLEY!!! I gotta try that one out! Thanks for saving the best for last!

@Firewall_Philip_Hanan He missed a glitch that I found just yesterday. its in water world. I don’t know how I did it, but its the first level that has the giant fish in it that eats mario. Well It was the bean stalk in that level, I got it to mess up somehow. Instead of going all the way to the block, the beanstalk stopped in the middle. I don’t know how to describe it I guess but it wasn’t anything amazing… just a beanstalk glitch.

February 25, 2012 at 6:09 pm
@Mike/Cinemassacre I agree, not every video needs a title card. But if you ever get inspired, like the one for Star Wars, then you should do it!

February 26, 2012 at 1:16 am
Good stuff Mike! I was waiting for the “green slimeball” glitch in the toad house. That ScrewAttack glitch at the end was pretty neat.

The 3-6 glitch is not on every cartridge… I have two of’em and it only works on the one.
February 28, 2012 at 9:26 am
The first glitch you become “invicible” in the beginning I discovered that already when I was little.
