Flying while crouching…. Nice reference to Godzilla
February 25, 2012 at 4:58 am
awesome video man. Im goin to have to try these
February 25, 2012 at 5:24 am
Man, Mike. You are more adept at finding glitches than anyone I know.
Seriously, I haven’t seen most of the glitches you’ve shown off in any other video. I’m only partially through this video and while I’ve seen the Kuribo’s Shoe glitch before, I haven’t seen other’s like the pipe/stuck trick before.
The thing is, I’ve studied game design since I was a kid (I am a programmer, and have been since I was wee-lad) so I understand, in general, how most glitches work. Because of this though, I’ve watched a billion glitch videos and .. I must stress again how many show the same glitches over and over, always. It’s VERY rare to find something you haven’t seen before, although it does happen rarely.
With your videos, typically at least a third are glitches I’ve never seen before. Another 1/3rd are glitches I haven’t seen happen exactly but are deriviatives of other gliches. The final 1/3rd are at least great choices and typically ones that aren’t shown as much.
Either way, I would assume that most people haven’t seen 95% of these glitches. And if you are like me, you should probably agree with the majority of my claims here. These videos are great!
February 25, 2012 at 6:12 pm
@Lanlost i am more a fan of glitches bugs and such than games themselves. for example, guile’s handcuffs in street fighter 2 arcade game. i am hoping mike will do one for street fighter 2!
February 25, 2012 at 5:28 am
Er sorry, in my post below I lost my train of thought from basically the beginning. I was originally going to ask how you find these. Do you research the game’s mechanics and glitches online and then find ones you don’t think people have seen or are the most interesting? Or are these mostly (all?) things you’ve found independently, regardless if others have.
I mean, I will try to break games, as I’m using to betaing my own little creations, but have you always done this? Or is it some combination of the above (Most likely)?
It’s funny. I saw a manual once back in the day for 8/16 bit era beta testers that basically told them to do stuff like jump into all walls as much as possible. Duck 1000 times. These were examples. I would assume these instructions are for non-programmers and such because if you understand the logic behind games it should definitely give you clues where bugs might exist from the get go. Stuff like your tanooki suit/turn into a statue and then grab the hammer bros suit thing.
February 25, 2012 at 7:40 am
Er, Mike, you should have said “Mario’s BUTThole” if you wanted to make a reference to Inspector Gadget on the “Super Mario Bros. Super Show”-DVD menu.
Nice glitches, though.
February 25, 2012 at 8:48 am
@tigamann Ha ha ha! You’re right!
February 25, 2012 at 8:10 am
Mario does the spindash!
February 25, 2012 at 11:02 am
great as always
February 25, 2012 at 1:30 pm
Those glitches seem to need such random moves. How do you find them ?( nice video, as usual )
February 25, 2012 at 1:54 pm
@Mister Buckethead I do not say this lightly,,, but BucketHead is the greatest guitarist who has ever lived. I’ve been playing for over 40 years. I should know. Still, it’s just my opinion.
February 25, 2012 at 2:04 pm
@MECHAGARY Well you’re kinda right i still don’t know who’s the best between him and Paul Gilbert. I just think Gilbert’ solos are more memorable even though he’s fast, whereas i like Buckethead for the mood he sets in his songs. They are just different, but hell are they good !
February 25, 2012 at 1:53 pm
LOL Mister Buckethead y u so silly?
@Martin123 Why , did i say something stupid ? xD
February 25, 2012 at 1:59 pm
I wonder. Can these glitches be performed on the Super Mario All-Stars version of the game?
February 26, 2012 at 10:41 am
@SeanFrye I doubt it.
February 25, 2012 at 2:53 pm
Awesome video, Mike!
February 25, 2012 at 2:54 pm
The game is possessed!
1:25LMAO ” press the mario button with the glow”
I cant believe you did not follow up the bowsers castle glitch!!! use p wings fly up and use the highest route, when you get to the bowser statue croutch n go through the wall. Dont do it for the next 1 or you will get stuck, Go to where u fight bowser fly over the wall to your left and back again. Walk right to fight bowser and see what happens
February 25, 2012 at 3:05 pm
@Mike/Cinemassacre Kinda sad to see them go, I think we all enjoyed your work. But I can understand not wanting to do them anymore, they seemed like a lot of work for something that was only shown for a few seconds.
February 25, 2012 at 4:00 pm
Mike, are you aware of any glitch where you can destroy those “Rotodisc” things in the castle stages? When I was a kid I had the Tanooki suit and turned into the statue and hit the thing just right and it seemed to destroy it. I was never able to do it again, but I wondered if you’d ever seen that before?
February 25, 2012 at 5:07 pm
@LeeHannahs The Tanooki statue has the power to kill the Rotodiscs, it’s not a glitch. And Also, another sort of glitch I know of. Use a P-wing on a level that has a giant block with a Tanooki, 5-5 is probably the best one. When you get the Tanooki, you can still fly infinitely like as if you had a p-wing.
February 25, 2012 at 4:29 pm
No the glitch gremlin stays away from this one
February 25, 2012 at 4:44 pm
Mike – can you please talk about your favourie old comic books, like 70′s marvel etc?
February 25, 2012 at 5:33 pm
Move the glow! Haha I gotta watch that video again now.
February 25, 2012 at 6:07 pm
February 25, 2012 at 6:09 pm
@Mike/Cinemassacre I agree, not every video needs a title card. But if you ever get inspired, like the one for Star Wars, then you should do it!
February 25, 2012 at 6:11 pm
we love this stuff mike. keep it comin’!
February 25, 2012 at 6:14 pm
Very much enjoyed this video. Please keep the glitches coming!!!
February 25, 2012 at 6:23 pm
Yeahhh!! I used to always crouch flying! Nice video Mike keep em coming!
February 25, 2012 at 8:40 pm
You improved, Mikey, you improved.
February 25, 2012 at 9:35 pm
@Mike/Cinemassacre If other video reviewers started using them, it might be because you inspired them. Since you mentioned movie posters, I see them as the “posters” for the reviews, so they should be there in my opinion. And last but not least you are a great artist, you have to show your work to the fans. We love it.
February 25, 2012 at 9:43 pm
Sweet glitching….now do Super Mario Bros 4
February 25, 2012 at 10:20 pm
Haha! Aw man you and that fucking Inspector Gadget. “Move the glow around Mario’s asshole”. Wait a minute… Oh no, the But-ton’ to click back to homepage doesn’t work. Quick I need a detailed description on how to hit the refresh But-ton!
February 26, 2012 at 12:29 am
Another good one Mike. Curious, did you design the intro theme or did someone else?
February 26, 2012 at 1:16 am
Good stuff Mike! I was waiting for the “green slimeball” glitch in the toad house. That ScrewAttack glitch at the end was pretty neat.
February 26, 2012 at 1:37 am
i laughed so hard at “Move the glow around Mario’s asshole”!! the Inspector Gadget DVD Tutorial was one of my favorites of you and James
February 26, 2012 at 1:46 am
Wow I knew about most of these except the one with the vine and star. I feel like a real nerd now.
February 26, 2012 at 3:00 am
@Mike/Cinemassacre Although a heap of extra work, the title cards just seemed like part of the review to me. It took the game elements and lampooned them, which is why they worked so well at the beginning. Personally, I’d love to see those title cards in future AVGN videos, if nowhere else. Your work is great and I can normally spot something new in each one every time I rewatch an old review. Having said that, I’m not the one on the end of a brush (or pen, or whatever, I’m no artist) for hours.
February 26, 2012 at 3:11 am
Now I have to try those :O
February 26, 2012 at 8:39 am
How dare you Mike… how dare you…
February 26, 2012 at 10:28 am
I miss how Mike used to start his videos with “Hey, it’s motherfucker Mike here”
February 26, 2012 at 1:27 pm
Okay we all had done The green booger ball glitch at toad house. And i had done the first one he said long ago even the one right after.
February 26, 2012 at 5:14 pm
This is definitely my favorite of the Mario games. I think I did some of those pipe glitches accidentally back in the day.
February 26, 2012 at 6:08 pm
this game is posessed! In a good way
It’s amazing learning new stuff about a game I’ve played for twenty years.
February 26, 2012 at 6:55 pm
Great one, Mike! =)
February 27, 2012 at 5:33 am
Lol I got the inspector gadget reference
February 27, 2012 at 11:58 am
The 3-6 glitch is not on every cartridge… I have two of’em and it only works on the one.
February 28, 2012 at 9:26 am
The first glitch you become “invicible” in the beginning I discovered that already when I was little.
February 28, 2012 at 9:34 am
There is another glich that you need the Tanooki suit. When your standing on a pipe press down + B (to turn into a statue) at the same time you press down to enter the pipe. Mario will turn gray when entering the pipe. When he come back up again, we will become a statue like normal. Another glitch whit Tanooki suit is when your facing a pipe (whenever is on left or right), press down + B to turn into a statue then let go the buttons at the same time your enter the pipe. Half of Mario`s body will disappear but will return to normal when you exit the pipe.

Thanks for the info, Mike I’ll be sure to check it out sometime.
February 29, 2012 at 8:24 am
Glitch #1: Performed that back in 1991.
Glitch #2: Performed that back in 1993.
Glitch #3: Never performed that, but I did fly over that wall to the right.
Glitch #4: Performed that around 2000 or so.
Glitch #5: Performed that back in 1990 or 1991.
Glitch #6: That one is new to me!
Glitch #7: Yep. Probably my first discovered glitch back in 1989.
Glitch #8: Been performing that glitch since 1989.
Glitch #9: Been flying while crouching for years, but never tried phasing through that wall before.
Glitch #10: HOLY MOLEY!!! I gotta try that one out! Thanks for saving the best for last!
March 5, 2012 at 6:55 pm
@Firewall_Philip_Hanan He missed a glitch that I found just yesterday. its in water world. I don’t know how I did it, but its the first level that has the giant fish in it that eats mario. Well It was the bean stalk in that level, I got it to mess up somehow. Instead of going all the way to the block, the beanstalk stopped in the middle. I don’t know how to describe it I guess but it wasn’t anything amazing… just a beanstalk glitch.
March 27, 2012 at 5:52 am
@classicgamelover85 That happens when you hit a vine and then hit a question block with a power-up in it while it is growing.
February 29, 2012 at 12:27 pm
Why is this on relative videos on YouTube?
March 3, 2012 at 10:22 am
they don’t make’em like this anymore
March 3, 2012 at 7:46 pm
“Move the glow around Mario’s Asshole!”
March 3, 2012 at 9:01 pm
I wonder if these work on the SNES or GBA versions?
March 6, 2012 at 1:02 pm
@AdamWelsh They don’t, sorry I tried. Must’ve been fixed. The only glitch that works is killing by nothin’ glitch.
March 13, 2012 at 7:17 pm
@Darkhog not true, i was mucking around with my mario all stars version and i got the “jump through the p block glitch”
August 17, 2013 at 2:04 pm
I actually have the NES cartridge for SMB3 – I should try some of these! It’s harder than it looks to get some of the glitches to work, though.
March 6, 2012 at 11:02 pm
@AdamWelsh please don’t play those god-forsaken remakes.
N… E… S…
March 7, 2012 at 1:38 pm
@AaronWomack I actually like the SNES version more than the NES version.
June 19, 2013 at 12:39 am
Why? All they did was improve the graphics and fix some of the annoying glitches. What’s not to love?
April 2, 2012 at 3:20 am
wow great intro!
April 13, 2012 at 12:43 pm
i found a glitch in a wii game of mine
June 19, 2013 at 12:38 am
Do these work on the Super Nintendo version of Mario 3 as well?
August 17, 2013 at 2:00 pm
I still have the original NES cartridge for SMB3 – I should try some of these! Hard to get them to work just right, though.
May 18, 2015 at 10:52 am
You really should learn to pronounce the word “Tanooki” properly, Mike.
