Not to be confused with “The Making Of The Angry Video Game Nerd” which was Episode 102 from 2011. You can see that HERE.

Is this supposed to be muted? I hear no audio on this video, and the volumes all the way up.
February 23, 2012 at 7:59 pm
Never mind. It’s working for me now. Oh well. FIRST!!!
February 23, 2012 at 7:58 pm

February 23, 2012 at 8:00 pm
@Matthew Gustafson Some of the extras are hilarious on these DVD’s…I loved the 3D device they put on the website a couple of weeks ago…
February 23, 2012 at 8:22 pm
Fucking stellar. I love this kind of shit. I’m definitely getting the 5 pack now. I just need to get paid again. :P
February 23, 2012 at 8:26 pm
Make some more videos about your life, just like; The Dragon in My Dreams (Cinemassacre 300) and Cinemassacre 200.
They’re nice to watch
.
February 23, 2012 at 8:26 pm
hell yeah!
February 23, 2012 at 8:26 pm
Keep up the good work James! Big fan
February 23, 2012 at 8:26 pm
They deleted him from the Wiki page because they are so damn stingy on there
February 23, 2012 at 8:28 pm
February 23, 2012 at 8:34 pm

February 23, 2012 at 8:37 pm
Classic Nerd at its finest. : )
As I said before, come next month, I’ll be buying all 5 volumes and probably even a shirt or two. Stay strong, James, and don’t give up. : )
February 23, 2012 at 8:38 pm
Very cool! I gotta say James I have often said to some Fanboys “Uhm, you know the NERD is just a character right? James is a film maker and the AVGN though his most popular and well known character is just one thing James does” I have also pointed many to this site. Now instead of wasting my time I will simply direct them to this video, if they don’t “GET IT” after that then i give up lol! Thanks for doing this.
February 23, 2012 at 8:48 pm
Wonder how many other internet denizens have Youtube gold just sitting around on VHS?
February 23, 2012 at 8:51 pm
Thanks for the videos, James. You’re right. These videos are a lot of fun because so many of us have gotten so pissed at so many games (wow, lotta “so”s!). My older brother got so angry that he’d pound the living hell out of the console! We actually went through some 6 or 7 Nintendos because of that.Hope the movie’s going well!
February 23, 2012 at 8:58 pm
I like how he talks about the Nerd as just one of his characters and projects, instead of talking about the Nerd as himself.
If you think about it, this video not only documents how the style of the Nerd came to be, but it’s also a part of the history of how the whole internet videogame review genre came to be like it is today, since the Nerd style influenced so many people.
February 23, 2012 at 9:03 pm
@LicaWolf great observation, and its as you say the style every reviewers use today. its nice to see how james helped forming this style of reveiwing, also james good luck with the movie i forgot to mention that
February 23, 2012 at 9:06 pm
Yeah, I’ve already seen this video on the Volume 1 DVD, but there it’s longer, it has 13 minutes. Here it got 10 minutes. Why did you cut out those 3 minutes? Mike was speaking there too.
February 23, 2012 at 9:07 pm
@ZdendaCZ mabey he didnt wanted to give away all the parts of this bonus from the DVD and let them discover that in the bonus when they purchase the dvd’s
February 23, 2012 at 9:12 pm
I remember when I became a fan. I didn’t know about cinemassacre I just like how the nerd made fun of the games I played when I was a wii lad. Then I found the sight and checked out the reviews on all the classic movies and cartoons and it was good. Down with over convoluted cg movies.
February 23, 2012 at 9:40 pm
@Shadowtheman It’s “site.” I love how dumb the world is today.
February 23, 2012 at 9:43 pm
@Fugtub @Shadowtheman Maybe he means “The Sight” as in his eyes have been opened thanks to Cinemassacre! lol
February 23, 2012 at 9:44 pm
@Fugtub That was a little bit uncalled for. You can find far more ignorant comments on YouTube. Leave him alone; it was probably just an honest typo.
he cud b 1 uv da ppl dat typ lik dis, fuk off u faget
February 23, 2012 at 9:54 pm
@bradlybee Sheesh I didn’t mean to offend you and your boyfriend. It just baffles me how many people don’t know how to write. I bet he is going to write “your dumb” next. (you’re)
February 23, 2012 at 10:25 pm
@Fugtub Calm down, you’re parading yourself as an asshole. Stupid kid.
February 23, 2012 at 9:18 pm
can’t wait for the movie! Damn!
February 23, 2012 at 9:19 pm
Love The review its always good back and to look how you started and James did a great job Its nice to see how the nerd originated. Love how doom is playing in the background the new song sounds great oh and that Jason mask is sweeet.
February 23, 2012 at 9:24 pm
Haha it started as a trilogy and then he just couldn’t stop! Sounds familiar…
February 23, 2012 at 9:27 pm

February 23, 2012 at 9:45 pm
James, I bought your AVGN T-Shirt and the Plush Toy. The Plush sits on top of my SNES Collection and I wear the T-Shirt around everywhere. Honestly, if I didnt have to bathe or wash that shirt, I would wear it constantly. Another thing that chaps my ass, you need to open up the Donations again! The Wife and I were waiting til PayDay, WE WANT TO DONATE!!! Dont hate, let us Donate!
February 23, 2012 at 9:45 pm
I regret buying the DVDs now as the extras are now being released for free now.

February 23, 2012 at 9:45 pm
OH! My Wife wants me to mention that SHE bought the T-Shirt and Plush, I got carried away typing and was in a frenzie and didnt mention that tidbit. Do you need a bodyguard? I can kick some ass and I dont care if its a biker, Ill fight him! Also, uh this is my wife wanting to know this….We live in NC and we heard that you live on the East Coast, she was wondering if You and Mrs. Nerd would like to visit and have dinner? I can cook up some mean Ramen! Not really, we wont have Ramen. You can stay with us or Ill book you a Hotel. Ill give up my side of the bed anyday.
Sincerly,
M. Herr III Wellington

Thank you, James! Really awesome to finally hear that you don’t really hate Simon’s Quest. It’s a fun game despite it’s flaws.
February 24, 2012 at 12:07 am
@MarkPetsch He’s brought that up before. In the Castlevania restrospective I think.

I’ve never seen him write anything down either.
February 24, 2012 at 12:48 am

@Freddy Fiorentino
maybe they would change that part..?
February 24, 2012 at 1:09 am
James is so modest. Not only did he create a successful character, but he spawned the entire genre of online nerd reviewing. Just look at Nostalgia Critic, Linkara, Nostalgia Chick, MarzGurl, Irate Gamer (sorry for including him I know he sucks), Pat the NES Punk and many more attempt it each day. Where would we be without James, our pioneer?
February 24, 2012 at 1:15 am
@Staarscommando sir…. nostalgia critic sucks… dont even include him
February 24, 2012 at 1:29 am
@ChrisStinson @Staarscommando the critic is awesome what you talking about? I look forward to his videos just as much as james’s
February 24, 2012 at 5:33 am
@ChrisStinson youre wrong
February 24, 2012 at 3:15 pm
@ChrisStinson At first I thought that the nostalgia critic was waaaay over the top, always screaming and shit, but I gave him a chance, he is good in a weird way. I have tried to watch other reviewers…. but I guess some people have charm and others don’t
February 24, 2012 at 7:20 pm
@Villarreal Agreed. The NC is annoying, but almost always watchable. I really don’t like Linkara, I am not into comics and I disagree with him too often, though his videos are well made.
February 24, 2012 at 7:27 pm
@Villarreal
James is review King and this Video reminds me, that AVGN isn’t really his most favourite creation.
I have to say, that though Cinemassacre brought me to my daily habits of watching internet reviewers, I really don’t like their old self-made home videos. Building these sets and inventing things like on-screen text, before we all had computers, reminded me (perhaps too much) of my own youth.
Yeah, I might be a little jelous there…

Pat is a bit too over the top goofy a lot of the time but one thing I damned sure make sure I do each year is watch all 24 hours of his NES marathon. Hopefully James does something similar one day in the future for charity starring him and Mike.
February 24, 2012 at 1:21 am
cool stuff

Charlie Parker! 6:52
February 24, 2012 at 2:26 am
No one comes close to you Mr. Rolfe. You are, without a doubt, the best, funniest, and most creative film maker of the 21st century, the AVGN movie is goig to blow the top off any roof, and all I can hope, is that I dont pass before seeing it.
Your awesome, your crew (this means you mike) and everyone on board should be more than stoked, watching and developing anything you do… i tip my hat my friend

Can’t wait for the AVGN movie and the ET review, I’m sure it will be hilarious
February 24, 2012 at 3:03 am
Where Can I Get The Cinemassacre Gold Collection? Are They On Screwattack?
February 24, 2012 at 3:32 am
You have to make the cinemassacre gold collection available !! that’d be awesome
, but wasn’t the cinemassacre gold collection in the dvd collection thingy?
February 24, 2012 at 3:33 am
Hey James its nice of you to post some stuff people never saw BUT people who bought your DVDs (for much money) now have no reason to buy those because that exclusive stuff gets posted.
I dont think thats OK.
February 24, 2012 at 5:27 am
@AmbossDerRabiator Do you also bitch about them showing movies for free on network TV years after thier release?
February 24, 2012 at 8:41 am
@Jarnor @AmbossDerRabiator What kind of argument is that? No I agree with him. I like cinemassacre a lot and I check it everyday, but I don’t like them putting up all the exclusive content from the DVDs. That was an added bonus for buying something that you could watch free, so it’s a little silly to also make that content free. Either way, I like Rolfe and Mike and Cinemassacre, and I will continue to like them, and I understand it is hard for them to put out new material at the moment, but it is a little irritating.
February 24, 2012 at 3:35 am
I got to say, I’m happy I finally got a job so I can support companies and people that I actually get enjoyment out of. Can’t wait till the DVD comes out!
February 24, 2012 at 3:47 am
Ahhh James, life is crazy. You may have a lot of control with your first job, but the second will be off the wall and come from somewhere unpredictable. You, however, have a bright future in film making. While in California, be sure to get as many contacts as you can, and soon enough you will start raking in the big bucks on the big screen. Just be sure to remember what really launched your popularity, and make these videos when you can.
February 24, 2012 at 4:16 am
@NathanielLenox lol i just have to ask do you think he quit the AVGN just by reading the title? It really does sound like u did.
February 24, 2012 at 6:47 am
@kushdc No, of course not. I have seen the updates mentioning that he had plans for AVGN for many years to come after the movie, or at least had plenty of games to talk about, and I also know that the video that was uploaded above was made in 2006, and released as part of a DVD collection of his works at that point. It was merely advice that, in all reality, he probably already knew. I am a TCOM minor, and a very important part of the film making industry is networking, and now that he is in California, it’s a great opportunity for him to expand his contact list. I was just trying to say that once he gets some steady work in the industry, whether an editor working on other people’s movies, a cameraman, or a directer bringing his own creations to life, he continues the AVGN series when he can. It beats the alternative of saying “Fuck your dreams, do AVGN forever!”
February 24, 2012 at 3:50 am
Do you make money of the Screw Attack DVD sales or is that all their money?
February 24, 2012 at 4:40 am
you inspired me to make movies my self, they aren’t the best movies get a lot of good feedback. I hope you read this comment and know that you helped me, and also other people. Please check out my stuff and give some tips, search (on youtube) krukerproductions.
February 24, 2012 at 4:46 am

Keep rolling James can’t wait to see this movie! to bad you didn’t see the porn studio i anted to know if they reek!
February 24, 2012 at 5:17 am
BOOO!!! Why the hell did he have to release such an unnecessary, up-it’s-own-ass, retrospective behind the scenes look at AVGN already? This is a video that I would expect to come from a fan of AVGN. I feel like James’s compulsive need to make films, as he mentioned in this video, has resulted in the assassination of the honest, sincere and overall relatable feeling that those AVGN review videos naturally induced through the nerd character. By deconstructing every detail of character and totally trivializing and demystifying every notable aspect of the process and method, he has left no room for imagination. Now I can’t go back and watch those videos and genuinely enjoy them the same way I did before. The effortless, in the moment believability that was successfully achieved initially, has been replaced by this stupid commentating voice, insistently repeating “it’s only a character”. I know it is, asshole but, who wants to go see a movie where the director constantly interrupts the film to make sure the audience keeps ever present in mind how contrived the effort was?
For fuck sake, the whole thing came off as some premature, lifetime achievement award acceptance speech.
You ruined my experience with this bullshit. Thanks a lot, James
February 24, 2012 at 5:25 am
@SmoothJazzFingerBlast “Oh bitch, bitch, bitch!”. – Abraham Simpson
February 24, 2012 at 5:37 am
@SmoothJazzFingerBlast If seeing something like this has ruined ANYTHING for you then you are truly, sadly and irredeemably retarded. Seriously you aren’t watching this in the middle of other videos, and…. here is a little secret…. it is ALWAYS just a character. Sorry to ruin fiction for you. Have a dumb life.
February 24, 2012 at 5:45 am
@SmoothJazzFingerBlast you are stupid man
February 24, 2012 at 6:00 am
@SmoothJazzFingerBlast Hate to break it to you, man.. but Santa Claus isn’t real, either. Hope I ruined gift giving.
February 24, 2012 at 6:04 am
@SmoothJazzFingerBlast Why are you even here with that attitude? You sound more like a AVGN fan than a Cinemassacre fan. You should be watching and re-watching AVGN episodes on Game Trailers instead of whining about how Santa Claus doesn’t exist. James made this documentary in 2006 (which some have said were during his most creative days, not me) exclusively for the DVD, so apparently you’re not a big enough fan to support James’ work and you prefer everything to be free and tailor made exclusively for you. Well the truth hurts doesn’t it? If your feelings are hurt because your fantasy about what James Rolfe should be in your mind is now ruined… good, you deserve to have your little imagination ruined! You’re like a little child going up to Michael Keaton and continually referring to him as Batman. Grow up!!!
February 24, 2012 at 7:47 am
@NicholasPatrick Look, young Nicholas, James fucked up. Period. When movies do this sort of behind the scenes thing, it is ok because that project is over. You’re done immersing yourself in the performance (which includes viewing it as a temporary “proposed reality”) and you can move on from the story to the mechanics of the thing. To do this in the middle of an on going series, which is made to appear as a realistic review video series, is dumb and short sighted. The fact is, this is not a movie, it’s the opposite really. What it has going for it is it’s low budget quality, coupled with James’s bad acting, hilariously cheap effects and clumsy monologue which feels very “amateur documentary”, in a good way. In the moment, you want to suspend disbelief, you want to believe he hates these games, you want to believe you are watching a socially inept, potty mouth asshole venting impotent rage about a nerdy subject in his parents basement and to quote your God (me): “(It’s only a character) I know it is, asshole but, who wants to go see a movie where the director constantly interrupts the film to make sure the audience keeps ever present in mind how contrived the effort was?” and who wants the actor to break character in the middle of everything and explain the boring details of the production? I understand that you lay face down in bed every night, ass up, praying that Rolfe’s cock satisfies your cock craving asshole and for me to question anything he does is tantamount to the multitude of times you felt helplessly humiliated when people confronted you about being such a dick hugging waste of life but, you know, I did it, so continue hating people for being smarter and better than you, you’re the champ. The rest of you fatherless rim jobs you cried about my comment should start a therapy group to cope with your irrelevance. Nicholas is your president. Heed your lord!!!
February 24, 2012 at 7:55 am
@SmoothJazzFingerBlast if you don’t like his shit then why are you here? dumbass
February 24, 2012 at 8:33 am
@SmoothJazzFingerBlast Troll harder buddy
February 24, 2012 at 2:18 pm
@SmoothJazzFingerBlast cool story, bro.
February 24, 2012 at 4:02 pm
@SmoothJazzFingerBlast You might have been right if we were talking about theater or something that wasn’t episodic, but since each episode is self contained only a fool would think that something like this breaks the character, the simple fact that the episodes come out every few weeks could do the same thing. I love how you attempt hide from the fact that you are wrong and that everyone disagrees with you with a thin veil of pseudo-intellectualism and words you think we won’t understand. Your length of post simply furthers your failure. Keep on being stupid while trying to be smart, the rest of us “rim-jobs” will continue to enjoy the video series since we actually have the capacity to enjoy them AND enjoy a little behind the scenes, sorry your couldn’t do both.
